amukku (p. 20) கிறேன், அமுக்கினேன், வேன், அமுக்க, v. a. To crush, press or squeeze, as a fruit, a boil, &c., அமுத்த. 2. Press down, press in or under, as a vessel into water, immerse, depress, press down or in, indent by pressure, அமிழ்த்த. 3. (fig.) To oppress, நெருக்க. நீரிலேசெம்பையமுக்கிமொண்டுவா. Sink the brass pot in the water, draw it up, and bring it. அமுக்கு, v. noun. Compression, depression, oppression as by nightmare, pressure as by the hand of the bailiff, அழுத்துகை. 2. That which compresses, depresses, &c., an incumbent weight, அமுக்குபாரம். அமுக்குண்டு கதறிக்கொண்டுகிடந்தான், He lay crying out, prostrate under the burden. அமுக்கன், s. aẕuntu (p. 33) கிறேன், அழுந்தினேன், வேன், அழுந்த, v. n. To become pressed, be impressed, pressed close or hard, அமுங்க. 2. To become firm, close, fast, compact, to be pressed together, உறுதியாயிருக்க. 3. To be immersed, to sink, be overwhelmed, ingulphed, plunged, (in sorrow, joy, disease,) அமிழ. 4. āẕu (p. 43) --ஆழ், கிறது, ஆழ்ந்தது, ஆழும், ஆழ, v. n. To be depressed, be deep, profound, &c., அழுந்த. 2. To sink, be immersed, be overwhelmed, to plunge, தாழ. 3. To give a bright yellow color to gold ornaments, by immersing them in a boiling solution of sulphur, saltpetre, culinary salt, and turmeric. See பழு. v. சாடுவெட்டிச்சுட, inf.
