ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. tampaṉam (p. 224) --ஸ்தம்பனம், s. (sometimes தம்பம்.) Stopping, restraining, hindering the power of fire; stopping a flow of water or blood; checking the ferocity of wild beasts; causing a person or spirit to stand immovably in a place; suppressing bodily faculties; depriving one of the power of speech, action, motion; suspending natural qualities, அசைவறநிறுத்துகை.-There are different kinds, as அக்கினித்தம்ப னம், கட்கத்தம்பனம், சலத்தம்பனம், சுக்கிலத்தம்ப னம், திஷ்டித்தம்பனம், பூதத்தம்பனம், வாயுத்தம்பனம், which see in their places, as given with ஸ்தம்பம் termination and in கலைஞானம். தம்பனகாரன்--தம்பனவித்தைக்காரன், s. A magician, a conjurer who exercises magic powers to stop or restrain as above. தம்பனக்குளிகை, s. A magical pill. See குளிகை. தம்பனவித்தை. That art of restraining by magic. கன்னத்தம்பனம், s. Stopping the discovery of hidden things. 5)

tmpi (p. 224) -ஸ்தம்பி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To stop, to check, to suspend, to restrain, to counteract by magical incantations, அசைவறநிறுத்த; [ex ஸ்தம்பம்.] தம்பிக்கப்பண்ண, inf. To deprive one of the power of moving. தம்பித்துநிற்க, inf. To stand immovable. 8)

viriyṉ (p. 398) s. A snake, adder, viper, ஓர் பாம்பு.--Note. Eight kinds are mentioned; 1. அழல்விரியன், எரிவிரியன், the burning viper, so called from the burning pain caused by its bite; 2. இரத்தவிரியன், உதிரிவிரியன், the blood-viper of a red color, the bite of which causes the vomiting of blood; 3. ஊதுவிரியன், the tumefacient viper, the bite of which is followed by a swelling of the whole body; 4. எட்டடிவிரியன், a viper of eight feet, causing death when a person has gone that distance after being bitten, more properly, எட்டுவரிவிரியன், or one having eight stripes round the body. It is very poisonous; 5. சுட்டுவிரியன், the binding viper, its bite causing the joints of the body to become immovable. It is striped, black and white; 6. கழுதைவிரியன், a viper of slow motion like as ass, large and blackish; not very venomous; 7. புல் விரியன், the grass-adder; 8. பெருவிரியன், or கண்ணாடிவிரியன், the great, viper, whose poison is more active and deadly than that of any other serpent. செந்தலைவிரியன், s. A red-headed and dangerous viper. விதிமுடிந்தவனைவிரியன்கடிக்கும். A viper will bite one whose fate is to die. Prov. 4) *
