கருமம்
krumm (p. 96) s. Act, action, moral actions involving future retribution, &c., கிரியை. 2. Actions of a previous birth, good or evil, entailed on the soul and resulting in the enjoyments and sufferings of the present or a future state, fate, destiny, முன்வினை. 3. Business, profession, occupation, attempt, essay, enterprise, தொழில். 4. Religious rites, duties, &c., stated, periodical, or otherwise, according to the rules of the shasters; moral duty, specific action, duty, obligation imposed by peculiarities of tribe or occupation, &c., வைதீகக்கிரியை. 5. Natural activity, self-moving energy, &c., இயற்கைச்சொல். 6. Religious actions --as connected with the hope of future recompense and as opposed to speculative religion--as explained in the Agamas, ஆகாயமிருகம். 7. [in grammar.] The object of actions, செயப்படுபொருள். 8. Magical enchantment of eight kinds, அஷ்டகருமம். (1.) வசியம். getting a person into one's own power, influence, &c. (2.) மோகனம், libidinous fascinations. (3.) தம்பனம், stopping, checking, restraining the powers of fire, the flowing of water, the ferocity of wild beasts, &c., making a spirit or person stand immovable in a place and depriving him on the power of speech, &c. (4.) உச்சா டனம், setting demons against one to ruin him by magical incantations, or dislodging them from persons or places. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. Heat, உஷ்டணம். கருமஒழுங்குபெருமைக்களவு, rectitude of his actions is the measure of a man's dignity. கருமவரிசையால். For the attainment of an object-- (நாலடி.) கருமகர்த்தா, s. To be contracted, accumulated, laid up, &c.--as sins for retribution in future births, வி னைகட்டுப்பட. கருமசண்டாளன், s. A villian, a scoundrel, a rogue, an abandoned wretch. கருமசம், s. Vice, atrocity, தீவினை. Wils. p. 197. KARMAJA. கருமசாங்கரியம், s. Community of wives, promiscuous or indiscriminate cohabitation, ஐக்கம். கருமஞானம், s. Knowledge and skill religious exercise and ceremonies. கருமத்தலைவர், s. Royal fortunetellers, astrologers, conjurers, foretellers of future events, வருங்காரியஞ்சொல்வோர். கருமத்தலைவன், s. a superntendent. 2. A minister, அரசர்க்குத்துணைவன். கருமத்துரோகம், s. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s. One of the three parts of the Vedas, relating to daily ceremonial rites, வேதத்தின்பொருட்பாகுபாட் டிலொன்று. See ஞானபாகை, and அருத்தபாகை. கருமபூமி, s. The part of the earth deemed most sacred in which Hinduism prevails and religious rites are regularly performed, வினைசெய்தற்குரியபூமி. Wils. p. 198. KARMMAB'HUMI. 2. A place of cremation, சுடுகாடு. கருமபூமிக்குரிமை, s. The six occupations of men, viz.: 1. வரைவு, marriage. 2. தொழில். trade. 3. வித்தை, study. 4. வாணிபம், merchandize. 5. உழவு, husbandry. 6. சிற்பம், the arts. கருமமுடிக்க, inf. To accomplish one's purpose. 2. To perform duties, rites, ceremonies, &c., especially the daily rites and duties of religion. கருமவியாதி, s. A lingering and afflictive disease, the result as supposed of atrocious deeds in previous births. கருமவேதனை, s. The results, actions-as births, bodies, pleasures, pains, &c., கன்மவாதனை. கருமாதி, s. Prescribed funeral rites for deceased ancestors, அந்தியேட்டிமுதலிய சடங்கு. கருமாதிகாரன், s. A ruler, a governor, கருமத்தலைவன். கருமாதிசெய்ய, inf. To perform funeral rites. கருமாத்துமா, s. A heinous sinner, one who has accumulated evil deeds either in a previous birth or the present. Wils. p. 199. KARMMATMAN. கருமாந்தம்--கருமாந்தரம்--கருமாந் தியம், s. The end of a funeral ceremony which continues for sixteen days. Wils. p. 199. KARMMANTA, KARMANTARA. கருமானுட்டானம், s. Performance of exterior rites as distinguished from the contemplative or internal ritual of the silent worshipper. Wils. p. 199. KARMMANUSHTANA. கருமானுபவம், s. Suffering evils from sins of previous births, கருமப்பய னுகர்ச்சி. கருமி, s. A person engaged in the ordinary external rites of religion who has not risen to the higher degrees, கிரி யைசெய்பவன். 2. kiriyai (p. 110) s. Act, action, deed, operation, performance, emphatically good manners, orderliness, cleanliness, செய்கை 2. Religious rites or duties as prescribed by the Shastras, சமயநிஷ்டை. 3. The second degree in the religion of Siva-entitling the disciple to the privilege of performing puja, &c. (See பாதம்.) 4. Works, rites, &c., in religion--as distinguished from abstract or silent devotion, in which these rites and dispensed with. (See சிவபூ சை.) 5. Funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியை. 6. In Sanscrit compounds the word retains its Sanscrit pronunciation, கிரியா. கிரியாகாண்டம், s. Those parts of the Vedas which inculcate works, rites, and ceremonies, கருமகாண்டம்--opposed to ஞா னகாண்டம். கிரியாங்கம், s. Worship, rites and ceremonies, chiefly applicable to prescribed individual practice--as preparing the sacred ashes, repeating the incantations, touching the joints of the fingers while repeating them, &c., கிரியையுறுப்பு. கிரியாங்கம்பண்ண, inf. To perform the several external actions in the daily worship. கிரியாசத்தி, s. lit. The operative energy or power. [in the agama philosophy.] One of the three active or female energies of Siva, by which he effects the creation or evolution of the universe. 2. the faculty or power of action, operation, &c., as applied to any agent. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியாசாதனம், s. Being trained or inured to the performance of works, religious duties, &c., கிரியையனுட்டிப்பு. கிரியாசைவம், s. One of the sixteen divisions of the Siva system. See சைவம். கிரியாசொரூபன், s. One who is the embodiment, கிரியை; (appropriately) Ganesa, who is considered the impersonation of Siva's divine operations. கிரியாதீதன், s.கிரியையொழிந்தவன். கிரியாபதம், s. [in Sanscrit grammar.] A verb, வினைச்சொல். கிரியாபாதம், s. The second of the four stages or degrees in the Siva worship; [ex கிரியை, et பாதம்.] கிரியாபூசை, s. The worship offered to Siva by one in the second degree. (p.) கிரியாமார்க்கம், s. The practice of duties in the second degree of the Siva religion; the performance of rites and ceremonies, கிரியைநெறி. கிரியாமாலை, s. Inflection or conjugation of verbs, chiefly in Sanscrit, வினைச் சொல்லின்ரூபகரணம். கிரியாவதி, s. A person who practices the rites and ceremonies enjoined in the Vedas. கிரியாவுத்திரி, s. Transcendental and symbolical instruction in the most spiritual rites, by a guru to an advanced disciple--opposed to ஞானாவுத்திரி. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியைகெட்டது, appel. noun. Any thing disorderly, slovenly, ஒழுங்கற்றது. கிரியைகெட்டவன், s. One destitute of good manners, slovenly in dress, or irregular in habits. கிரியைக்காரன், s. One in the second degree of the Siva religion. கிரியைக்கேடு, s. slovenliness, debauchery, beastliness, ஒழுங்கின்மை. கிரியைசெய்ய, inf. To perform actions, duties, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, உத்திரகிரியைசெய்ய. கிரியையனுட்டிக்க, inf. To perform rites, and ceremonies. 2. To practice the daily rites, to perform the duties of the second degree. கிரியையொழிந்தவன், s. One who has dispensed with works, having attained a higher degree, கிரியாபாதங்கடந்தவன். காட்டுக்கிரியை, s. cār (p. 179) --சாரு, கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், சார, v. n. To lean upon, to recline against, சாய. 2. To rest on or in, to repose on, to depend on, to adhere to, பற்றிக்கொள்ள. 3. To apply to, to resort to, to take shelter or refuge with, அடைய. 4. To approach, to approximate, to incline towards, அணுக. 5. To gain access to, to reach, to arrive at, கிட்ட. 6. To side with, to join a party ஓர்பாற்சார. 7. To be attached to, connected with, &c., அனுசாரமாக. 8. To be biassed or warped in judgment, to be partial to, நடுநிலைகோண. (c.) 9. cittam (p. 182) s. Will, volition, one of the four faculties of the mind, உட்கரணநான்கி னொன்று. 2. Purpose, determination, resolution, pleasure, choice, உள்ளக்கருத்து. (c.) 3. The mind or heart as the seat of affection, காருண்ணியமனம். W. p. 325. CHITTA. 4. An established truth; a tenet or doctrine maintained by certain authorities, சித்தாந் தம். 5. Truth, certainty, உண்மை. 6. One of the twenty-seven astrological Yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொன்று. W. p. 924. SIDD'HA. 7. One of the twenty-eight Saiva Agamas, ஆகமமிருபத்தெட்டிலொன்று. உம்முடையசித்தம். According to your pleasure, as you please. சித்தத்தின்படி--சித்தமானபடி. According to one's pleasure, choice, &c. தங்கள் சித்தமெங்கள்பாக்கியம். Your pleasure is the source of our happiness; if you will it, we are made happy. சித்தசமாதானம், s. Certainty or steadfastness of mind in religion. 2. Peace of mind, tranquility, calmness. சித்தசமுசயம், s. Doubt of mind, hesitation, indetermination. (p.) சித்தசாந்தி, s. Stoical tranquility of mind, extinction of volitional feeling, &c., as attained by the ஞானி. (p.) சித்தசலனம், s. Agitation of mind, perturbation, disgust. See சலனம். சித்தஸ்வாதீனம், s. Command of one's will, self-control. சித்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To settle, decide, give a final judgement, தீர்மானிக்க. 2. To will, desire; to direct, command; to be pleased, ஆக்கியாபிக்க. 3. To make ready, தயார்பண்ண. (Colloq.) சித்தத்தியாகம்--சித்தநிவர்த்தி, s. [prov.] Renunciation, entire subjection or extinction of the will and of secular purposes, resolves, desires, &c.,--as attained by severe abstract devotion in one ripening for liberation from births; absolute quiescence. See தியாகம். சித்தத்திற்கொள்ள, inf. To will, resolve, purpose, choose, prefer. சித்தந்திரும்ப--சித்தம்வர, inf. To be pleased to do, &c. (c.) சித்தப்பிரமை, s. Aberration of mind, infatuation, fascination, stupefaction, bewilderment, மனமயக்கு. 2. Derangement, madness; [ex பிரமை, stupor.] சித்தமாக, inf. To will, to desire; to purpose, resolve. (c.) சித்தமிரங்க, inf. To condescend, to be pleased, to do a favor, &c. சித்தயோகம், s. [in astrol.] A conjunction of the lunar constellations with the days of the week and of the phases of the moon,-- not deemed very favorable; the twenty-first of the twenty-seven yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொ ன்று. 2. One of the three யோகம் neither favorable, nor unfavorable. See யோகம். சித்தலயம், s. Extinction of the will and identification of the soul with the Supreme, as obtained by the ascetic; [ex இலயம்.] சித்தவிலாசம், s. Increase of volitions or of yielding to desires after earthly objects--oppo. to சித்தலயம். சாத்திரசித்தம், s. The sentiment or meaning of the shastras. 2. Tenets, opinions, &c., inculcated in the shastras. திடச்சித்தம், s. A firm, resolute mind. 60) *
சிவன்
civaṉ (p. 188) s. Siva, the third of the Indian Triad, in the character of destroyer, or reducer of things to their primitive atoms. By his votaries he is considered the supreme god. the other deities being subject to him, சங்கரன். சிவகணம், s. The attendant demi-gods of Siva, commonly in companies, சிவன் சேனை. சிவசமயம், s. The Siva religion. சிவசிந்தை, s. Divine contemplation, meditation on Siva--as சிவத்தியானம். சிவஞானசித்தியார்--சிவஞானசித்தி, s. A commentary on சிவஞானபோதம். See சித்தி யார். சிவஞானபோதம், s. A celebrated work consisting of twelve rules translated from the ரௌரவம், or the sixteenth Agama, being almost the only part of the Agamas known in Tamil. It is regarded as divine, without origin, and as not to be read unless the person has attained a competent degree in the religion. Other works--as சித்தியார், சிவப்பி ரகாசம், தத்துவப்பிரகாசம், &c., are commentaries on this or other treatises in support of its doctrines, ஓராகமநூல். சிவஸ்தலம்--சிவஸ்தானம்--சிவதலம், s. Temples, places, &c., sacred to Siva; Saiva temples. சிவதத்துவம், s. Degrees of religious power or attainment derived from Siva, of which five are specified--as 1. சத் தவித்தை. 2. ஈச்சுரம். 3. சாதாக்கியம். 4. சத்தி. 5. சிவம், which see severally. சிவதரிசனம், s. Sight or knowledge of Siva. 2. Pilgrimage to holy places of Siva. 3. A treatise containing a representation of the deity according to the Agamas, ஓர்நூல். சிவதர்மம்--சிவதன்மம், s. Meritorious or virtuous works performed in reference to Siva, as distinguished from actions of benevolence to creatures, பதி தர்மம். 2. One of the eighteen secondary Puranas, ஒருபுராணம். சிவதர்மோத்தரம்--சிவதன்மோத்தரம், s. The Uttera Candum (உத்தரகாண்டம்.) or the last part of the சிவதன்மபுராணம். சிவதீட்சை, s. The initiatory ceremony on entering the Saiva sect. சிவதீர்த்தம், s. A sacred tank within the precincts of the great temple at Ramisseram. சிவதொண்டு, s. Service of Siva. சிவதொண்டர், s. Devotees or votaries of Siva. சிவத்தாபனம்--சிவஸ்தாபனம், s. An edifice sacred to Siva, a large shrine. சிவத்தியானம், s. Contemplation of Siva in silent devotion, an image being formed in the mind as an object of worship. சிவத்துரோகம், s. Sin against Siva; a profanation of sacred things. சிவநிந்தை, s. Blasphemy or contempt of Siva. சிவபஜனை, s. Praising Siva by lyrics. சிவபத்தர்--சிவபத்திக்காரர்--சிவமதஸ்தர், s. Worshippers or devotees of Siva as distinguished from விட்டுணுபத்தர். சிவபத்தி, s. The religion of Siva. 2. The profession of the Siva religion. 3. Adherence, attachment, or devotedness to Siva. சிவபுண்ணியம், s. Deeds of merit, performances in reference to Siva--as சிவதர்மம். சிவபூசை, s. The worship of Siva as practised in the temple or by the கிரியை க்காரன்; the Siva-pujah, consisting of the offering of flowers, milk, boiled rice, fruits, &c., waving incense and light-reciting mantras and praises, prostrating, before the idol, &c., 2. Mental worship of Siva, in which there is an idol ceremony corresponding to what is mentioned above. சிவபூசைவேளையிலே கரடியைவிட்டாட்டுகிறதா. Is it proper to exhibit a dancing bear during the Siva-pujah--i. e. to trifle on a solemn occasion? சிவபுராணம், s. The Siva-Puranas, forming ten out of the eighteen. See புராணம். சிவபுரி, s. The abode of Siva, or city in the Siva-logam, கைலாசபுரி. 2. The city of Benares, as sacred to Siva, காசி முதலியநகரிகள். சிவபோகம், s. Enjoyment of the soul in union with Siva. (தத்.) சிவப்பிரகாசம், s. A work on the Agama philosophy, exhibiting in a condensed view the doctrines inculcated in சித்தியார், and other cognate works. சிவப்பிரதிட்டை--சிவப்பிரதிஷ்டை, s. The consecration of a temple or image of Siva. சிவப்பிராமணர், s. Brahmans, குருக்கள் who adhere to the Siva or Agama doctrines and practices, as distinguished from those who profess the வைதீகம். சிவப்பிரீதி, s. That which is acceptable, agreeable and pleasing to Siva--as fruits, &c. 2. May it be acceptable to Siva, --spoken by the receiver as an acknowledgement of a gift, an act of reverence, &c. சிவமயம், s. A term of invocation; also of benediction--meaning happiness, prosperity, and success, சுபமஸ்து. சிவமுந்திருக்கூட்டமும், s. See under கூட்டம். சிவமூர்த்திபேதங்கள், s. The different forms assumed by the deity, the gods. சிவராத்திரி, s. (Sometimes சிவநிசி.) The night preceding the new moon in February, kept as a watchnight in honor of Siva. சிவவாக்கியம், s. A poem on theism, wholly condemning polytheism, ஓர் நூல். சிவவாக்கியர், s. The name of a celebrated saint, the author of the poem சிவவாக்கியம். சிவலிங்கம், s. The Linga, as the chief image and material object of worship in the Saiva religion. சிவலோகம், s. The world of Siva, being the upper of the seven superior worlds. See சிவபுரி. சிவவேடம், s. The habiliments, or other badges characteristic of the worshippers of Siva--as red vestments, sacred beads, ashes, the linga, &c. சிவனடியார், s. Votaries of Siva. 2. The sixty-three special votaries of Siva mentioned in Periya Purana. சிவாகமம், s. The Agamas as the scriptures of the Siva sect, being twentyeight; of these the சிவஞானபோதம், a part of the ரௌரவம் and the வாதுளம், are translated into Tamil. The place for an image of Siva used for daily worship; [ex ஆதனம்.] சிவாயநம, s. The famous five lettered incantation called the மூலமந்திரம்--as being the foundation of spiritual wisdom and all religion, and the means prescribed and proper for obtaining liberation, from births and union with the supreme. சிவார்ச்சனை, s. The worship of Siva with flowers, incantation, &c.; [ex அர்ச் சனை, worship.] See சிவபூசை. சிவார்ப்பணம்--சிவாற்பணம், s. An oblation to Siva. See அற்பணம். சிவாஸ்திரம், s. A missile weapon or dart said to be given by Siva; [ex அஸ்தி ரம்.] சிவாலயம், s. Saiva temple. சிவானுபவம், s. The bliss of union with Siva; [ex அனுபவம்.] 5)
தந்திரம்
tantiram (p. 223) s. W. p. 365. TANTRA. Stratagem, device, subtlety, scheme, dissimulation, பித்தலாட்டம். 2. Means, contrivance, pretext, expedient, உபாயம். (c.) 3. Action of the hand in performing sacrifices, பூசையிற்செய்யுங்கைத்தொழில். 4. (for தந் திரி.) Wire or string of a lute, guitar, &c., யாழ்நரம்பு. 5. Treatise--scientific, literary or religious, நூல். 6. A set of religious works of the Siva sect, the Tantras, inculcating rites and ceremonies, ஆகமநூல். 7. Army, troops, detachments, forces, படை. தந்திரகலை--தந்திராகமம், s. One of the divisions of the Agamas, treating on rites, &c. (See மந்திரம் and உபதேசம்.) 2. Study of the Agamas, with attachment, confidence, and understanding. தந்திரகாரன், s. (com. தந்திரக்காரன்.) A cunning man, one scheming and wily. தந்திரக்கதை--தந்திரகதை, s. A cunningly devised story. தந்திரபாலன், s. General of an army. தந்திரபுத்தி, s. Dissimulation, scheming. தந்திரபேச்சு, s. Cunning or artful language. தந்திரர், s. (plu.) Gantharuvas, or celestial musicians, கந்தருவர். தந்திரவாதம், s. The art of disputation. தந்திரவாதி, s. An expert, dexterous person, a subtle man. தந்திரவித்தை, s. Cunning art. தந்திரவுத்தி, s. Approved methods of teaching on a subject embracing chiefly thirty-two particulars. See உத்தி. தந்திரன், s. A schemer, a plotter, a subtle, crafty, designing person. 51) *
நூல்
nūl (p. 279) s. Thread, yarn, string, line, இழை. 2. A literary or scientific treatise, கல்விநூல். 3. Science, system, literature, சாஸ்திரம். 4. Deliberation, counsel, mature consideration, எண்ணம். (சது.) 5. The badge-string of the sacerdotal, the royal and of some mechanical tribes, பூணூல். 6. A string tied round an image in a Roman Catholic Church, in token of a vow, பொருத்தனைநூல். 7. A wedding-badge, தாலிநூல். 8. Carpenter's or mason's line, எற்றுநூல்.--In combination it takes grammatical changes like நால். Of நூல் or sacred learning there are நூ three: 1. முதனூல், an original scientific work regarded as divine, the Vedas; 2. வழிநூல், a work derived from and agreeing with the original, being an enlargement, as the Vedanta; 3. சார்புநூல், a work following the original, secondary, but differing in some particulars; collateral writings, as the Adwitta. நூற்பலகல். Study many books. (Avv.) நூலில்லாமல்மாலைகோத்தல். Stringing flowers without a thread; i. e. fabricating. நூற்மறைதெரிந்துசீலத்தொழுகு. Search the Shastras, and lead a regular life. (Avv.) நூலச்சு, s. A weaver's reed, நெசவச்சு. 2. [prov.] A goldsmith's mould for drawing wire, கம்பியச்சு. நூலடி, s. [prov.] A line or membrane passing from the privy parts to the anus. 2. A mark made with the carpenter's line, நூற்குறி. நூலட்டவணை, s. Contents of a book. நூலரங்கேற்ற, inf. See அரங்கேற்ற. நூலறிவு, s. Knowledge of science. நூலாசிரியன், s. The author of a work. நூலாதாரம், s. A primer or first book; the alphabet; [ex ஆதாரம்.] நூலாமாலை, s. Craft, artifice, devices. (R.) நூலாய்வோர், appel. n. [pl.] Critics, reviewers, revisers. நூலான்புடை, s. A spider's web. [Madura usage.] See ஒட்டடை. நூலான்பூச்சி, s. The spider, சிலந்திப் பூச்சி. (Beschi.) நூலியற்கை, s. Moral of legal rules. நூலியாப்பு, s. The composition of a work, being of four kinds: 1. தொகுத்தல், substance in brief, compendium, synopsis; 2. விரித்தல், detail, amplification; 3. தொகைவிரி, compendium and detail; 4. மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, translation. நூலிழந்தவள், appel. n. A widow; a woman divested of her wedding-badge, தாலியறுத்தவன். நூலிழை, s. A single thread. நூலிழைக்க, inf. To reel yarn, to disentangle yarn from the skein and wind it on the reel, to unwind yarn. நூலுண்டை, s. A ball of thread, yarn, cotton, &c., நூலுருண்டை. 2. A weaver's bobbin with the yarn, தார்க்கெண்டை. நூலுத்தி, s. The proper arrangement of words, as தந்திரவுத்தி. நூலுந்தாலியும். The wedding string and badge. நூலுரைப்போன், appel. n. A teacher. நூலுரையுணர்வோர், appel. n. [pl.] Learned men, கற்றோர். நூலுறிஞ்சி, appel. n. A weaver. (in contempt.) நூலுறுப்பு, s. The component parts of a treatise. See உறுப்பு. நூலெடுக்க, inf. To buy thread as a weaver. 2. See எடு, v. நூலேணி, s. A rope-ladder, கயிற்றேணி. 2. [in mythol.] Fancied threads or strings, as a guide, by which to pass and repass through the sky, to and from the world of the celestials. 3. [prov.] The shrouds of a vessel, பாய்மரத்தேணி. நூலோடுதல், v. noun. Warping for the loom, பாவோடுதல். நூலோட்ட, inf. To sew or stitch loosely, to haste. நூலோர், s. [pl.] Brahmans as wearing the sacred thread, பார்ப்பார். 2. The learned, the literati, அறிவுடையோர். 3. Ministers of state, மந்திரியர். (சது.) நூல்கேட்க, inf. To learn a science under a teacher. The patron of a work, or a person who moves the author to write a book. நூல்திரிக்க--நூல்முறுக்க, inf. To twist yarn. நூல்நிமிண்டுதல், v. noun. Twisting broken threads together. நூல்நிமிண்டுகிறபேச்சு. Unconnected talk. நூல்போடுதல், v. noun. Marking with a thread, as a carpenter, &c., குறிபோடு தல். 2. Putting on the thread of the Brahman or other caste, பூணூல்போடுதல். நூல்போட்டுப்பிளத்தல், v. noun. Marking and cleaving, as timber. 2. Making an exact division, commonly into halves. 3. [in irony.]Administering strict or rigid justice. நூல்வலை, s. A fisherman's net. நூல்வல்லோர், s. [pl.] The learned, the literati, கல்விமான்கள். 2. Ministers of state, மந்திரியர். நூல்வழக்கு, s. The sentiments or theory of a work, நூலினேற்பாடு. நூல்வழிநிற்றல், v. noun. Acting up to the moral precepts of a book. நூல்விடுதல், v. noun. Spinning a thread and letting itself down, as a spider, or caterpillars. நூல்விதி, s. Injunction, prescription or rule laid down in books. நூல்விரிவு, s. Amplification or detail of a work. நூற்கயிறு, s. String made of thread. நூற்கருத்து, s. The sentiments of an author. See கருத்து. 2. The author's meaning of any given passage. நூற்சுழி, s. A skein of thread. நூற்குச்சு, s. A tassel of cotton thread. நூற்குஞ்சம், s. A number of threads composing the warp in a loom. See குஞ்சம். 2. A skein. நூற்குற்றம், s. The ten faults or defects in a literary composition. See under குற்றம். நூற்சரடு, s. Cotton thread for stringing beads. நூற்சார்பு, s. Sentiments inculated in a work, &c. See சார்பு. நூற்சுருள்--நூற்சுருணை, s. A skein or clew of thread. நூற்பகந்திரம், s. A venereal ulcer on the peritoneum. See பகந்திரம். நூற்படுகு, s. A weaver's warp. நூற்பந்து, s. A ball of thread. நூற்பயன், s. The general ends or objects of literature. See நாற்பொருள். நூற்பழக்கம், v. noun. Acquaintance with science, literature, &c. நூற்பா, s. A kind of அகவல் verse, commonly employed by lexicographers, சூத்திரப்பா. 2. Warp in weaving, தறியிற் பிணைக்கும்பா. நூற்பாவகவல், s. The நூற்பா verse. நூர்புலவர், s. [pl.] Persons of accomplished or distinguished learning. நூற்புறத்திணை, s. Proof from established authority; a term used by Beschi in Tonnool. நூற்புறனடை, s. Notes of an explanatory character given at the end of a work. See புறனடை. நூற்பொருள், s. Subjects treated of or inculcated in a book. 2. Contents of a book, நூலட்டவணை. நூற்றீட்சை, s. Spiritual illumination by the Shastras. See தீட்சை. நூற்றார், s. A weaver's bobbin; [ex தார்.] நூனயம், s. Advantage or pleasure of learning, கல்விநயம். 2. Superiority of one work over another, on the same subject, நூலின்மேன்மை. நூனாழி--நூல்நாழி, s. A weaver's shuttle. See நாடா. நெ. A letter compounded of ந் and எ. 12)
