camāti (p. 163) s. The last of the eight அ ங்கயோகம், or states and modes of silent, contemplative worship, அங்கயோகத்தொன்று. 2. One of the postures of the ascetic for silent meditation, being an upright, majestic position, as a fancied image of the deity, ஞானசமாதி. 3. The abstract contemplation of the ascetic in which the soul is supposed to be independent of the body and mind. (See யோகம்.) 4. Knowledge of the sublimest description--as of the deity, one's own spiritual nature, &c., acquired by supernatural illumination, without the aid of organs physical or mental, சமாதி தரிசனை. 5. A mode of interment, by placing the corpse in a sitting posture in imitation of the சமாதி worshipper, சமாதி யில்வைக்க,--Note. The வீரசைவர் sect are all burried in this manner, (it being deemed improper to burn them lest the linga previously worn should be burnt also,) and occasionally a monument of masonry is built around the corpse, as a linga, which thus becomes an object of worship. 6. A grave, a tomb, a sepulchre, பிணம் புதைக்குங்குழி. 7. [in rhet.] A species of personifications, a metaphor in which the quality or attribute properly belongs to the objects to which the metaphor refers, ஓரலங்காரம்--as பாயிருள்பருகிப்பகல்கான்றெழுதரு பருதி, the orient sun which swallows the darkness and pours forth the day; also, கன்னிமதில், virgin walls, i. e. imperishable, and குமரிஞாழல், the young rush, i. e. ever green. 8. Death, demise, commonly spoken of a devotee, மரணம். W. p. 896. SAMAD'HI. சமாதிக்குப்போக, inf. To betake one's self for a time to his cell, as an advenced devotee to secure uninterrupted, and protracted contemplation in silent worship. சமாதிக்குழி, s. The cell or grave of the devotee for interment, in an erect, sitting posture. 2. A grave. சமாதிபண்ண, inf. To sit in any of the postures of the Yogi. (p.) சமாதிபெற, inf. To receive of the Guru the degree of the Yogi, entitling the person to the privilege of sitting in the சமாதி postures. சமாதியடைய, inf. To sit in the ச மாதி posture in silent meditation. 2. Absolute deity, the matchless deity. தனிக்காட்டுராசா, s. A sole sovereign in a jungle. (c.) தனிக்காப்பு, s. An invocation, comprized in a single verse. தனிக்குடி, s. (also ஒன்றிக்குடி.) A solitary family. 2. One family of a caste, living among other castes. 3. Keeping house separately, as distinguished from living under the paternal roof. தனிக்குடை, s. The umbrella of an autocrat; (fig.) absolute sovereignty, தனியாசாட்சி. தனிக்குடைநிழற்ற. To spread the imperial umbrella, to govern. (p.) தனிக்குறில்--தனிக்குற்றெழுத்து, s. A single short consonant. தனிக்கோலான், s. He whose government is incomparable, the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. An independent sovereign. (p.) தனிச்சமையல், v. noun. Cooking for a single person, for one's self only, &c., தனிச்செய்கை, v. noun. Cultivating land alone, not jointly with others. தனிச்சொல், s. (Bab. Gram. p. 8.) A detached foot in வெண்பா and other verse, between two lines, தனிச்சீர். 2. A single or uncombined word. தனித்தனியே, adv. Individually, separately, each one singly, each alone. --Note. The ஏ is often added whether தனி be repeated or not--as தனியே. தனித்தாட்டன், s. [prov.] A large monkey that keeps distinct from, or goes before, the drove. தனித்தியலிடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. A specific name, including many individuals, or some varieties. தனித்தேட்டம், s. Amassing wealth alone, without the burden of a family. தனிநிலை, s. Solitariness, தனி்துநிற் கை. 2. (in gram.] The letter ஃ, ஆய்த வெழுத்்து. தனிப்பட, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be left alone, to be forseken. 2. To be solitary. 3. To be kept alone as witnesses and prisoners, or apart, detached--as persons, or animals. (c.) தனிப்படச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I will tell you in secret. தனிப்பட்டு, s. A single or distinct fold, plait, strand or string, one out of several folds of a necklace. 2. (c.) Silk only, all silk. தனிப்பயணம், s. Travelling alone, as தனிவழி. தனிப்பன்றி, s. A wild boar alone, as more ferocious and dangerous than others. தனிப்பாடு, v. noun. Loneliness, solitude. தனிமை. 2. Bearing the whole labor, responsibility, &c., alone, முழப் பொறுப்பு. (c.) தனிப்பாட்டு, s. A single verse unconnected with a series, விடுபாட்டு. தனிப்பால், s. Pure, unadulterated milk. (c.) தனிப்புரக்க, inf. To reign alone, to be an autocrat, தனியரசாள. (p.) தனிப்புறம், s. A solitary place, or state. (c.) தனிப்பூடு, s. An onion, or other bulbous root not divided. தனிப்பெற, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be placed alone, apart, distinct, insulated. (c.) தனிப்பெறஎடுத்துக்கொண்டான். He took the whole to himself. தனிப்போர், s. A single combat. 2. [in card playing.] One of the players, winning all the cards, கடிதமாடுவோரிலொரு வர்வெல்லுகை. 3. [in trade.] An individual monopolizing all the profits, தன்வசமாக்குகை. தனிமுதல், s. Trading alone, with one's own capital. 2. (p.) The matchless and only God, absolute deity, கட வுள். தனிமொழி, s. A simple uncompounded word. தனியரசாட்சி, s. Universal sovereignty. தனியன்--தனியான், s. A single man or woman, one unmarried, living alone; a wild beast detached from the herd, and thus rendered ferocious, ஒன்றி. 2. A solitary animal tree, fruit, &c., த னித்தது. 3. As தனிப்பாட்டு. தனியிருக்க--தனியேயிருக்க, inf. To be alone, to be alone at home. தனியுவமம், s. Using a word in a figurative sense, as கன்னெஞ்சு, a stony heart. தனியெழுத்து, s. Single letters, in distinction from சுட்டெழுத்து, compound letters. தனிவழி, s. A lonely way. 2. Travelling alone. தனிவீடு, s. A solitary house. 2. A house with one square only. taṟ (p. 230) [prop. தத்.] A Sanscrit prefix in Tamil, the த் being changed to ற் before க், ச், ப். தற்காலம், s. The exact precise time of an action or occurrence, the expected time, the given time being, நிகழ்காலம். 3. Coincidence in time, அக்காலம். 4. [astron.] A given time for which calculation is made.--Note. This word is often used synonymously with தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், which see. தற்காலகிரகநிலை, s. Planetary positions at a given time. 2. The horoscope at the moment of birth. (A term used in nativities.) தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், s. The true longitude or position of a planet at a fixed time. தற்காலமத்திமம், s. The mean longitude at a given time. தற்காலவிலை, s. The price at the time. தற்காலவிலைப்படிதருவேன். I will give as the price may be at the time. தற்காலிக்க, inf. [in astron.] To determine longitude, &c., for a given time, to make a reduction in the elements of calculation of the time given or sought. தற்சணம்--தச்சணம்--தட்சணம்--த க்ஷணம், s. The very moment, not a moment intervening, உடனே. 2. The present moment, அந்தக்ஷணம். தற்சம்ம, s. Words from the Sanscrit used in Tamil, or any of the other cognate languages, without change--as கமலம், the letters of which are the same in Sanscrit and Tamil, but சக்தி in Tamil, is சக்தி in Sanscrit. (சது.) தற்சமயம், s. The particular juncture, the exact moment required, அச்சமயம். 2. The best opportunity, a special season or juncture, உற்றசமயம். தற்பதம், s. Deity, கடவுள். (சது.) தற்பரம்--தற்பரன், s. Absolute deity independent of agencies, assumed energies or operations; i. e. deity quiescent or the male principle in the deity, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். தற்பரை, s. The Sakti, or female principle of deity, சத்தி. 2. [in astron.] The thirtieth part of the twinkling of an eye, ஒருமாத்திரையில்முப்பதிலொன்று. தற்பவம், s. tāṉ (p. 236) The reciprocal pronoun, himself, herself, itself, the genitive being தன்; in composition sometimes தற். 2. One's self. 3. An emphatic or intensive particle, signifying indeed, really, certainly, தேற் றச்சொல்; as அப்படித்தான், it is so. (c.) 4. An expletive, or அசைச்சொல் suffixed to any noun or pronoun of any person, and declined instead of it, as நிலந்தனைக்கொத்தினான், he dug the earth. 5. Personal identity, சுயம். (p.)--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is the person or being, and the body and mind with their powers and faculties, are merely adventitious; being the fruit of actions, &c. தானேவளர்ந்துதவத்தால்கொடியெடுத்தவன். One who has grown great and become famous of himself through meritorious austerities; often used of one who has risen by the kindness of another, but forgotten his benefactor. தானொருவனுமேதனியாகவந்தான். He only came, he came alone. தான்சாகாமருந்துதின்னலாமா. May any one take medicine to kill himself? தானுள்ளபோதுலோகம். The world is one's while he lives. தானாக்கனியாததுதடிகொண்டடித்தால்கனியுமா. Will a fruit, not ripening of itself, ripen by being beaten with a stick? தானுந்தலைவனும். The soul and God. நீதான். You yourself, you certainly. அவன்றன்னைக்கண்டேன். I saw him. (p.) அவன்றான். He himself; he certainly, truly, really. தானாக, inf. To be absolute, unique, self-existent, independent, தானாயிருக்க; applicable to the deity. 2. To be assimilated, தன்வண்ணமாக. தானாக, [adverbial.] Of his, her, or its own accord; spontaneously, voluntarily. 2. Of or by himself, herself, itself. தானாக்குதல், v. noun. Assimilating a person or thing to one's self, itself, &c., தன்வண்ணமாக்குதல். தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language, from other authors, one of thirty-two உத்தி. தானேயானவன்--தான்தோன்றி, appel. n. The self-existent, the deity, கடவுள். தான்பிழைக்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To regard or consult one's own safety, to be careful not to betray, involve or jeopardize one's self. 2. niṟai (p. 277) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To become full, பூரணப்பட. 2. To abound, be copious, plenteous, profuse, மிக. 3. To overflow, be suffused, பெருக. 4. To be satisfied, contented, replenished, saturated, திருத்தியாக. 5. To be or become complete or replete, to be finished, perfected, பரிபூரணமாக. (c.) நிறைந்திருங்கள். Be still, be silent, spoken when some important thing is done auspiciously. நிறைகரகம், s. A vessel filled with water and carried on the head in a dance in honor of Máriammai and other female deities. நிறைகர்ப்பம், s. Advanced pregnancy. நிறைகர்ப்பிணி, s. A woman near the time of her delivery. நிறைகலை, s. [com. பூரணகலை.] Fulness, entireness, completion of the parts, பூர ணாமிசம். 2. Splendor as fancied in the face of an idol, from a supposed divine afflatus, பூரணதேயசு. 3. The full moon, பூரணசந்திரன். 4. The manifestation of a deity in full glory, முழுக்காட்சி. 5. Poissession of an oracle by a deity or demon, பூரணசத்தி. 6. (fig.) Being intoxicated, top heavy, முழுவெறி. நிறைகன்றுத்தாய்ச்சி, s. [prov.] A cow with calf. நிறைகுடம், s. A full pot of water, as used in ceremonies and on festive occasions, adorned with a cocoanut, mango leaves, grain, &c., as an auspicious sight, &c., also one of the ensigns of royalty. See குடம். நிறைசபை--நிறைந்தசபை, s. A full meeting, council or court. நிறைசன்னி, s. A full fit of apoplexy. மூடுசன்னி. நிறைசூல், s. Full pregnancy, commonly applied to cattle. 2. (p.) Teeming with buds, ready to blossom or bear --as trees, &c. நிறைசெல்வம், s. Adundant wealth, independent opulence. நிறைசெல்வன், s. Kuvera, god of wealth, குபேரன். நிறைநரம்பு, s. Being full-stringed, as a lute with ten strings; as நிறைநரம்புள்ள வீணை. நிறைநாழி, s. Full measure of the நாழி. நிறைநாழிவைத்தல், v. noun. Placing a measure full of paddy at a marriage, funeral, &c., deemed auspicious, ஓர்சடங்கு. நிறைந்தகுணம்--நிறைந்தமனம், s. A satisfied, contented mind. 2. A cheerfull disposition. நிறைந்தமனிதன், s. A man of noble mind. 2. A perfect man. நிறைந்திருக்க, inf. To be full, complete. 2. To be still, silent, &c., as a company. நிறைந்தவீடு, s. A marriage-house, an auspicious term. நிறைபயிர், s. Thick corn, அடர்ந்தப யிர். நிறைபாரம், s. [improp. நிறைவாரம்.] A heavy load, கனத்தசுமை. 2. Being fully adorned with jewels, &c., அணிகலத்தின்மி குதி. 3. [in contempt.] Eating to the full, மட்டின்றிச்சாப்பிடல். 4. Being loaded with fruit as a tree, பழமிகுதி. நிறைபானை, s. A full jar. நிறைபிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. A woman in advanced pregnancy. நிறைபூசல், s. [vul. நிறுபூசல்.] Great noise, bustle, stir, பேரொலி. நிறைபொங்கல், s. A full, overflowing, auspicious boiling, as of rice and milk, at the Pongul, தைப்பொங்கல். 2. Many pots of rice boiling at a temple, அநே கம்பானைகளிலிடும்பொங்கல். நிறைமணி, s. [prov.] A profuse offering, especially to Ganesa, பூரணாபிஷேகம். நிறைமதி, s. Full-moon, பூரணசந்திரன். 2.
