aṟi (p. 33) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. a. To know, understand, comprehend, recognize, be acquainted with; have a carnal knowledge of, தெரிய. (c.) புத்தியறிந்தபெண். A marriageable girl. வல்லமையறிவோம். We will find out which is the most competent, (by way of bravado.) தன்னையறியுமறிவேயறிவாகும் பின்னையறிவது பேயறி வாமே. To know one's self is knowledge, other knowledge is inferior. அறிகருவி, s. The organs of sense. அறிகுறி, s. A sign, mark, token, symbol. அறிஞன், s. A man of knowledge, especially of divine things, அறிவுடையோன். 2. A poet, புலவன். 3. A sage, முனிவன். 4. Mercury the planet, புதன். 5. Buddha, புத்தன். அறிதுயில், s. A kind of sleep or meditation, in which the person understands all that passes about him--an attribute supposed to belong to the gods and sages, especially to Vishnu. அறிதுயிலமர்ந்தமூர்த்தி, s. Vishnu, திருமால். அறிமடம், s. Indisposition to reduce to practice what is learned. 2. Inability to recall to memory, stupidity in learned persons from infatuation. 3. Feigned ignorance. அறிமுகம், s. Acquaintance with persons (and in vulgar use) with things, slight familiarity. அறியக்கொடுக்க, inf. To inform against one, indict, impeach. 2. uṇr (p. 59) --உணரு, கிறேன், உணர்ந்தே ன், வேன், உணர, v. a. To be conscious, to feel mentally, to perceive, understand, comprehend, arrive at, or possess full and perfect knowledge, அறிய. 2. To discern, distinguish, பகுத்தறிய. 3. To think, reflect or consider, meditate, contemplate, நினைக்க. 4. To feel, perceive by the touch, பரிசித்தறிய. 5. To learn, acquire knowledge, கற்றறிய. 6. To become reconciled-as man and wife, be reunited after a love quarrel, ஊடறீர. 7. To become free from delusion, doubt, error, &c.--as in waking from sleep; recovering from languor; acquiring spiritual perception, &c., தெளிய. My leg is devoid of feeling, affected by paralysis, &c. உணர்தல், v. noun. Being reconciled--as man and wife after a lovequarrel. ஊடலுணர்தல்புணர்தலிவைகாமங்கூடியார்பெற் றபயன். Disunion, reconciliation and the pleasures of love, those are the fruits of matrimony. (குறள்.) உணர்த்தி, s. [vul. prop. உணர்ச்சி.] Feeling. உணர்த்தியற்றவன், s. kuruṭu (p. 126) s. Blindness, பார்வையில்லா மை. 2. Dimness (in gems); opacity, obscurity, காந்தியில்லாமை. 3. The worst side of a thing, cloth, &c., the unpolished, undressed, unfinished side, குருட்டுப்பக்கம். 4. A blind or ignorant fellow (in contempt), புத்தியீனன். குருட்டுநாட்டுக்கொள்ளி. A fire-brand in a country of blind people; i. e. a light among the illiterate. குருட்டுப்பூனைவிட்டத்திற்பாய்ந்தாற்போல. As a blind cat attempted to jump at the beam. குருட்டுமாட்டைத்தெய்வங்காக்கிறது--மேய்க்கிறது. The deity tends the blind cow. கோல்எடுத்தபிள்ளைகுருட்டுப்பிள்ளை. That child playing with the sticks is a blind child; i. e. is likely to hurt itself. குருடன், s. A blind person. 2. A name of Venus; lit. the squint-eyed, சுக்கிரன். (சது.) 3. To blind; to stupefy. குருடி, s. A blind female, கண்ணில் லாள். குருட்டுக்கண், s. Blind eye. 2. Blindness of the sight. பிறவிக்குருடன், s. A person born blind. மனக்குருடு, s. Mental blindness; ignorance, illusion. குருட்டாட்டம்--குருட்டுத்தனம், s.. Blindness; absence of mind, infatuation. குருட்டாட்டமாடுகிறான். He plays blindman's buff. குருட்டாட்டமாய்ப்பேசுகிறான். [prov.] Blind side, the wrong side of a printed cloth, &c. குருட்டுமைப்பட--குருட்டுமையாக, inf. To be dim or obscure--as the writing on olas, by wiping the coloring off before it is dry. 2. To become obscure--as writing to an aged person. குருடுதடவ, inf. To grope, to search and be unable to find, as if blind (said in reproach). குருட்டடி, s. Success, attained at random; a blind hit. குருட்டடியாய்ச்சொல்லிப்போட்டான். He spoke rightly at random. குருட்டடியடிக்க, inf. To speak at random, yet, commonly, to the point. குருட்டுவாக்கு, s. Acting at random --as a blind man; rashness, temerity, thoughtlessness; random success, a fortuitous hit, &c. குருட்டெழுத்து, s. Dimness of writing, &c., to an aged person. குருட்டுக்கொக்கு, s. Command of one's will, self-control. சித்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To settle, decide, give a final judgement, தீர்மானிக்க. 2. To will, desire; to direct, command; to be pleased, ஆக்கியாபிக்க. 3. To make ready, தயார்பண்ண. (Colloq.) சித்தத்தியாகம்--சித்தநிவர்த்தி, s. [prov.] Renunciation, entire subjection or extinction of the will and of secular purposes, resolves, desires, &c.,--as attained by severe abstract devotion in one ripening for liberation from births; absolute quiescence. See தியாகம். சித்தத்திற்கொள்ள, inf. To will, resolve, purpose, choose, prefer. சித்தந்திரும்ப--சித்தம்வர, inf. To be pleased to do, &c. (c.) சித்தப்பிரமை, s. (c.) சித்தமிரங்க, inf. To condescend, to be pleased, to do a favor, &c. சித்தயோகம், s. [in astrol.] A conjunction of the lunar constellations with the days of the week and of the phases of the moon,-- not deemed very favorable; the twenty-first of the twenty-seven yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொ ன்று. 2. tur (p. 249) s. A prefix used in combination signifying evil, ill, bad, deficient; it is often changed to ற், before the hard letters, to ன் before the soft, as துன்மார்க்கம். Before இடையினம், there is no change. Sometimes ர் is dropped and the relative letter takes its place--as துச்சரிதம், ஒருபசர்க் கை. (See துஷ்.) W. p. 414. DUR. துரதிஷ்டம், s. Ill luck. Evil actions either in performance, or as accumulated and attaching to the soul. துர்க்கன்மபரிபாகம்--துஷ்கன்மபரிபா கம், s. Insubordination, refractoriness, rebellion of a youth or dependant, &c., செருக்கு. துர்ச்சனநடத்தை--துர்ச்சனவியோகம், s. Vicious conduct, a vicious course. துர்ச்சனன், s. A petulant or insolent man. துர்ச்சனனைக்கண்டால்தூரவிலகு...... Abstain from an insolent person. துர்ச்செய்கை, s. Evil action. துர்ச்சொப்பனம், s. (also துச்சொப்ப னம்.] A bad or ominous dream. துர்த்தேவதை, s. A malignant demon. துர்ப்பலம், s. Weakness, feebleness, thinness, emaciation, பலவீனம். 2. (fig.) The state of being reduced in circumstances, சிறுமை. முன்னமேதுர்ப்பலைஅதிலுங்கர்ப்பிணி. Before weak, and now also pregnant; or poor, and under a heavy fine. துர்ப்பலன், s. Ill result as predicted in astrology. அமங்கலப்பயன். 2. Bad fruit, ill consequence. துர்ப்பாக்கியம்--தௌர்ப்பாக்கியம், s. Mental delusion, stupor, infatuation, stupidity, drowsiness, intoxication; aberration of mind from ignorance, fascination, fainting or other disturbing cause; a besotted state, உன் மத்தம். 2. Confusion in nature--as in the blending of sexes among animals or vegetables, கலப்பு. 3.
