atītam (p. 11) s. Exaltedness, pre-eminence, that which excels or goes beyond, எட்டாதது. 2. That which is beyond reach, exceeding the power of human comprehension, கடந்தது. 3. A living being, human, brute, or vegetable; an animal, ஓரறி வுயிர்முதலியசீவராசி. உயிருமுடலும்போல. As closely united as the soul and body. உயிர்போய்விட்டது. Life is gone. மன்னுயிர்க்கிரங்குகிறது. To be compassionate to other living creatures. உயிரடங்க, inf. To be in a state of insensibility, be in a swoon, to be suspended as the vital powers. உயிரடைய, inf. To revive, to be reanimated. உயிரளபு--உயிரளபெடை, s. The lengthening of a vowel in verse. See அளபெடை. உயிரறுதியும். Till the very end of life. உயிருதவி, s. Aid in a fatal juncture. 2. Aid by sacrificing life for another. உயிரெடுக்க, inf. To take away life. உயிரெழுத்து, s. A vowel, ஆவி. உயிரொடுங்க, inf. To be reduced as the powers before death, உயிரடங்க. 2. To die, சாவ. உயிரொளிக்க, inf. [prov.] To feign great weakness, sickness, inability, &c., in order to gain or effect an object, உயிர்மறைக்க. உயிரொளித்தகள்ளன், s. A cringing deceiver who though rich and strong makes pretensions to the contrary. உயிரோம்ப, inf. To support life, maintain, உயிர்காக்க. உயிர்கலக்க, inf. To revive, to be diffused--as life through the body in one that has been swooning, &c. 2. To reunite as the soul with the body in one restored to life. 3. (fig.) To be relieved from anxiety, &c. உயிர்குடிக்க, inf. To devour life, kill (a war term), also used of demons and ferocious deities, கொல்ல. உயிர்கொள்ள, inf. niṉ (p. 277) [a change of Sa. prefix நிர், before soft letters.] For most of the compounds, see under நிர். நின்மலம், s. Purity, immaculateness. நின்மலாவத்தை, s. [also மேலாலவத் தை.] Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, seeking deliverance from Malam. They are five-fold: 1. நின்மலச்சாக்கிரம், soul's coming to a full vision; 2. நின்மலசொப்பனம், not being affected by the elements; 3. நின்ம லகழுத்தி, insensibility to sinful desires; 4. நின்மலதுரியம், reaching the region of நீ நீக்குப்போக்கு, s. An opening, interstice or gap; used chiefly in the negative, இடைவெளி. 2. Means, pecuniary ability, வழிவகை. 3. Routine of business, கிரியைக் கிரமம். 4. Management, contrivance, உ பாயம். அதற்கொருநீக்குப்போக்குபண்ணும். Devise some means for that. நீக்குப்போக்கில்லாமல். Without proper openings or order. நீக்குப்போக்கறியாதவன், appel. n. mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். I assert it in a street where weddings and funerals pass; a strong asseveration. மணக்கோலம், s. Marriage-attire or costume. 2. See கோலம். மணப்பந்தல், s. A marriage-shed erected and adorned for the wedding. மணப்பறை, s. Drumming at a marriage--oppos. to பிணப்பறை. மணப்பொருத்தம், s. A marriage-contract, a written agreement between the parties marrying; or their parents, on giving their children in marriage. 2. See தசப்பொருத்தம். மணமகன், s. A bridegroom, மணவா ளன். 2. (சது.)
