iṟuku (p. 57) கிறது, இறுகினது, ம், இறுக, v. n. To become tight--as a bandage, knot, &c., to be strained, be close, hard, compact, &c.--as land dried by the sun, அழுந்த. 2. To grow thick in consistency, to coagulate, to be inspissated, be clotted, உறைய. 3. To congeal, become hard--as wax, metals, &c., to become dry--as mortar, clay, &c., கட்டியாக. 4. To become firm--as a loose tooth, பெலக்க. 5. To be close, rich, luxuriant--as growing corn, fruitful trees, &c., செறிய. எண்மண்டையிறுகிப்போயிற்று. My head feels day (needing oil and bathing). சளியிறுகிற்று. The phlegm (in the throat) is become hard. இறுகக்கட்ட, inf. To brace or fasten tight, close, compact, &c., அழுந் தக்கட்ட. இறுகத்தழுவ, inf. To hug, embrace closely, இறுகவணைக்க. இறுகப்பிசைய, inf. To knead hard, make close by kneading, அழுந்தப்பி சைய. இறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold fast, grasp tight, அழுந்தப்பிடிக்க. 2. To be stingy, parsimonious, tenacious, செலவு செய்யாதிருக்க. இறுகவிறுக, [adverbially.] Very tight, drawn tighter and tighter, அழுந்த வழுந்த. இறுகினகை, s. Close-fistedness, parsimony, ஈயாதகை. இறுகினதேகம், s. A firm, compact body. இறுகினமனம், s. An unrelenting heart, a close or parsimonious mind. இறுக்கம், v. noun. ōlai (p. 84) s. A palm leaf of any species, an ola, பனை, தெங்குமுதலியவற்றினோலை. 2. The leaf of the தாழை or wild pine-apple tree, தாழையோலை. 3. An ola letter, a written ola, a writing or document, எழுதுமோலை. 4. The summons of Yama, நமனோலை. 5. (p.) (சது.) Sound, ஒலி. நாளையோலையுந்தூதரும்வரின். kāyccu (p. 104) கிறேன், காய்ச்சினேன், வேன், காய்ச்ச, v. a. [caus. of காய்.] To boil, prepare by boiling; to cook, காயச்செய்ய. 2. To heat --as iron, &c., by fire, இரும்புமுதலியனகாய்ச்ச. 3. To heat--as the sun, கனற்ற. 4. To dry, warm, &c.--as in the sun, or by putting near fire, உலர்த்த. 5. To scold, to reprove, கண்டிக்க. 6. [prov.] To dye, to tinge, as a cloth. துரை அவனை நன்றாய்க் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டார். The magistrate has sharply reprimanded him. காய்ச்சுக்கட்டி--காய்ச்சுண்டி s. The juice of young betel-nuts inspissated by boiling, and then dried, காசுக்கட்டி. (c.) (Ains. v. I, p. 65.)--Note. காய்ச்சு க்கட்டி, and காசுக்கட்டி may be from the foreign word Catechu, and not necessarily from காய்ச்சு the Tamil verb. காய் ச்சுண்டி is from the Portuguese, கச்சுண்டி. காய்ச்சுக்கல், s. A dyed or tinged stone a counterfeit gem. காய்ச்சுப்பு--காய்ச்சுலவணம், s. Salt obtained by boiling down salt water. காய்ச்சு, v. noun. Heating metal, stone &c.; boiling any liquid, இரும்புமுதலியனகா ய்ச்சுகை. இரண்டுகாய்ச்சுக் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டான். He has already heated the metal twice. இரும்புக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat a piece of iron. கஞ்சிகாய்ச்ச, inf. To boil or prepare rice-water. கஷாயங்காய்ச்ச, inf. To prepare a decoction. 94)

tṭi (p. 222) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To thicken as a liquid, be inspissated, to congeal, உறைய. 2. To cohere; to form as primitive, subtile matter, into atoms, atoms into moulds or bodies; to consolidate, to assume a tangible form, திரண்டு தடிக்க. 3. To swell as the flesh from a stroke, to form a wale, வீங்க. 4. To grow large, full, plump as the breasts, &c., to become stout as a person, பூரிக்க. 5. To delay, linger, to be protracted, தாமதிக்க. 6. To become heavier, to be aggravated or enhanced--as an accusation, அதிகரிக்க. 7. [in burlesque.] To enlarge--as in pregnancy, புடைக்க. 8. To thicken, harden, indurate as the skin by slight poison, the contact of a caterpillar, &c., கடியினாற் றடிக்க. 9. To be thick, stout, hard, stiff --as a board, &c., வைரப்பட. In this sense used only in some parts of the verb. தடிக்கக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To thicken by boiling. தடிக்கப்பூச, inf. To daub, smear or paint thickly. தடித்தஆள், s. A stout, thick person. தடித்தபால், s. Thick milk. தடித்தமை, s. Thick ink, or paint. நாக்குத்தடிக்க, inf. To grow stiff or rigid, as the tongue by chewing betel. காரியந்தடித்துப்போயிற்று. The affair has become more aggravated. 8) *

tṭippu (p. 222) v. noun. Thickness of liquids, inspissation, consolidation, கடினம். 2. Swelling from a blow, a protuberance, வீக்கம். 3. Thickness of a solid substance as a board, &c., கனம். 4. Plumpness of a person, the breast, &c., பூரிப்பு. 5. (R.) A disease spreading over the body in pustules--as எச்சிற்றழும்ப; [ex தடி, v. n.] தோள்தடிப்பாயிருக்கிறது. A callous skin covers the shoulders. தடிப்பானபுகையிலை, s. Thick tobacco leaf--the best for chewing or smoking. 11)

ptm (p. 293) s. A proper temperament, temperature, consistency, degree of hardness or softness, quality or fitness, பக்குவம். (c.) 2. Boiled rice, சோறு. 3. Eating, உண்ணுகை. 4. A sacrificial grass, அறுகு. 5. Beauty, அழ கு. 6. Time, காலம். 7. An Indian hour of twenty-four minutes, நாழிகை. 8. (Beschi.) a kind of ode, சிந்து. மருந்தெண்ணைப்பதம், s. The stage when a medicinal oil is to be taken from the fire. 2. (fig.) Such a delicate state of the system as renders a person liable to disease from the least exposure. 3. (fig.) Excessive irritability of temper, extreme of sensibility.--Note. There are five degrees of inspissation: 1. குழம்புப்பதம், a thickened state; 2. கடுகுப்பதம், partial fluidity; 3. மந்தபதம், oily consistency; 4. மெழுகுபதம், waxy state; 5. முறுகுபதம், dryness. There are two states of heat in preparing oils, metals, &.c.: காயும்பதம், slight heat, for boiling the juices of plants; 2. வேல்பதம், full heat for melting gold, silver and other metals. பதக்கேடு, v. noun. Past the right stage, over-ripe, over-boiled, decayed, rotten. பதக்கேடானசரீரம். Debility of the system, often through age. பதத்துக்குக்காய்ச்ச--பதமாகக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat or boil medical oil, food, &c., to the proper degree. பதத்துக்குவடிக்க--பதத்தில்வடிக்க, inf. To strain a medical oil, &c., at the right stage of boiling. பதநீர், s. [com. பதனி.] Sweet toddy drawn in a pot lined with chunam To prevent fermentation. பதந்தப்ப, inf. To miss or pass the proper stage of boiling rice or medical oil, or in the ripening of fruits. 2. To pass the proper time for doing a thing. எகுபதந்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The steel is not well tempered. பதபாகம், s. Gentleness, mildness, &c. பதப்பட, inf. [v. noun. பதப்பாடு.] To be seasoned, tempered, fitted, adapted, trained, பக்குவமாக. 2. To grow ripe, பழுக்க. பல்லுக்குப்பதப்பட்டது. It is adapted to the teeth--as well boiled for an old man, &c. பதப்படுத்த, inf. To season, temper, tan, mould, adapt, train. பதமழிவு, v. noun. Over-ripeness. See பதனழிவு. பதமறிய, inf. To know the right stage, temperature or consistency. பதமாயிருக்க, inf. To strain the water from boiled rice that it may be properly dry. பதமெடுக்க--பதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To hit on the right stage, as in boiling rice, oil, &c. பதம்பண்ண, inf. To season, to temper, to mould; to tan. பதம்பாட, inf. To compose a பதம் ode. பதம்பார்க்க, inf. To try the taste, consistency, &c., of boiling rice, to try a fruit, by feeling, smelling, or cutting. &c. 2. To hesitate and not enter on a business promptly. 2.
