aṭṭātuṣṭm (p. 9) --அட்டாதுஷ்டி, s. Abuse of power, overbearing cruelty, atrocity, insubordination, அடாததுஷ்டத்தனம். (c.) 9) *

amai (p. 20) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To yield, come to a right state, submit, comply, obey, acquiesce, சம்மதிக்க. 2. To become settled, peaceable, quiet; to subside, படிய. 3. To be at one's disposal, as a thing that may be effected, acquired, brought to good order, &c., வசமாக. 4. To fit, suit, join nicely, be adapted to, இசைய. 5. To be destined, be subject to a divine appointment or destiny, good or bad, விதிக்குட்பட. 6. To be made, formed, adjusted, திருந்த. 7. To be satisfied, contented, composed, comfortable, resigned, திருத்தியாக. 8. (in the third person only) To be enough, sufficient, போ துமாக. 9. To happen, occur, come to pass, சம்பவிக்க. 1. To belong to, be connected or combined with, be appropriate to, பொ ருந்த. 11. To be obtained, அமர. (p.)--Note. Most of the meanings of this word have reference to the mind. சாஸ்திரத்திற்கமைந்துநடக்கிறவன், He is one who obeyed the shasters. ஐம்புலனமைந்தவன், s. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. Owing to dissatisfaction at inability to do charity. (குறள். 22. அதி.) அமையவுண்மின். Eat enough. இரட்சிப்பு இறைவனுக்கமைந்தது. Salvation is of God. அமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Unsubmission, insubordination, disquietness, unfitness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அமைவு, v. noun. Subjection, subordination, acquiescence, பொருந்துகை. 2. Composure of mind, tranquillity, contentment, மனவமைதி. 3. Repression of the senses, subjection of the mental powers, அடக்கம். அமைவடக்கம், s. Concealment, security, silence. அமைவன், s. The god of the Jainas, அருகன். 2. An ascetic, துறந்தோன். 3. A ஞானி. 4. (in general.) One who controls the passions, அடக்கமுடையோன். 5. A learned man, அறிவுடையோன். (p.) 35)

ēṭākuṭm (p. 78) --ஏடாகூடம், s. [vul.] Disrespect, insubordination, stubbornness, perverseness, ஒழுங்கின்மை. (Sans. Hét'a.) ஏடாகூடக்காரனுக்குவழியெங்கே--போகிறவன்றலை மேலே. Where is the path for a self-willed person? On the heads of fellow passengers. 19)

kīẕ (p. 113) s. Place or space, under, below, beneath, downward, low or nether; the bottom, கீழிடம். 2. The east, கிழக்கு. 3. A pit, a hole, பள்ளம். 4. The nether regions, the worlds below, கீழுலகம். 5. Forgetfulness, மறதி. 6. Bridle, reins, bit, கடிவாளம். 7. A low caste, கீழ்மக்கள். (p.) கீணர், s. [கீழ்நர்.] Low, mean people, the base, the vulgar, எளியோர். கீழது, s. That which is under or below; bottom. கீழதுமேலதாக்கிப்போட, inf. To overturn, upset, capsize; to overthrow, to defeat. கீழறுக்க, inf. To burrow, to excavate, to make a subterranean passage, to undermine, பூமியிற் சுரங்கஞ்செய்ய. 2. (fig.) To undermine, to injure by any underhand, clandestine means, சதிசெய்ய. கீழறை, s. An under-ground room, a cellar, நிலவறை. 2. A cavern, a cell, a hole or passage under ground, வளை. கீழாக, inf. To become depressed, to sink--as a stalk, a heap of muck, &c.; to deteriorate, to waste--as the body by use or disease; or as property, &c., தாழ் வடைய. கீழாக--கீழாய s. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. These signs, as well as the கீழ்நோக் கினநட்சத்திரம், are favorable for planting esculent roots and digging wells. கீழ்மேற்றென்வடல், s. The east, west, north and south. 42)

kēḷ (p. 139) கேட்கிறேன், கேட்டேன், கேட் பேன், கேட்க. v. a. To hear, hearken, give ear, listen; to over-hear, செவியாற்கேட்க. 2. To attend to, regard, mind; to be tractable, docile; to obey, புத்திகேட்க. 3. (from Sans. Gesha.) To ask, inquire, question; catechise, வினவ. 4. To request, solicit, crave, இரக்க. 5. To investigate, examine, call to account, ஆராய. 6. To require, demand, insist on, to claim, கொடுக்கச்சொல்ல. 7. To requite, recompense, avenge, கண்டிக்க. 8. To learn, to be instructed in, நூன்முதலியகே ட்க. 9. To bid, ask at a price, offer, விலை கேட்க. 1. To operate upon, உறுத்த. 11. v. n. To be heard, to reach--as a sound, a call, &c. சொன்னபடிகேளாதகுதிரை. An intractable horse. இந்தவியாதியைமருந்துகேட்கும். This disease will yield to medicine. எளியாரை வலியார் கேட்டால் வலியாரைத்தெய்வங் கேட்கும். If the powerful oppress the poor, God will hear them. பொல்லாதமனங்கேளாது. The wicked heart will not obey. கேட்டுங்கேளாதிருக்க, inf. To pretend not to hear. 2. To slight, disregard, not to mind. கேட்டுநிற்க, inf. To beg, pray, solicit, ask favors. 2. To require, demand. கேட்டுவிசாரிக்க, inf. To make inquiry about, inquire into, to examine. கேட்பார்பேச்சுக்கேட்க, inf. To listen to every one's advice; to be duped. கேளாச்செவி, s. Neglect, disregard, inattention to worldly pleasures; lit. an unlistening ear, உலக காரியங்களைக்கேளாத செவி. காணாக்கண்ணாய் கேளாச்செவியாய்ப்போய்விட் டான். He has gone away unseen and unheard. கேளாதகேள்வி, s. A question not to be asked; indecent, unbecoming language. சொற்கேட்க, inf. To obey one's word; to be obedient. நூல்கேட்க, inf. To read a book, or learn a science under a teacher. புராணங்கேட்க, inf. To hear the Puranas--as at a temple. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends in marriage. பொருள்கேட்க, inf. To ask for a thing. 2. To inquire after the meaning of a passage, &c. வழக்குகேட்க, inf. To inquire into or try a cause. கேளாமை, neg. v. noun. Disregard, inattention; disobedience, intractableness, insubordination, சொல்வார்த்தைகேளாமை. கேளார், s. Enemies, foes, பகைவர். கேள்வி, v. noun. Hearing--the sense of the act, கேட்கை. 2. Asking, inquiry, solicitation, வினாவுகை. 3. Research, investigation, கேட்டாராய்வு. 4. Question, வினா. 5. (Rott.) Obedience, கீழ்ப்படிவு. 6. Information gained, கேள்விப்பயிற்சி. 7. Tuition under a competent teacher, கற் கை, A compound letter consisting of க் and ஐ. 2. A termination of some verbal nouns--as in செய்கை. 3. kompu (p. 146) s. The horn of a beast, விலங்கின்கொம்பு. 2. A branch, மரக்கொம்பு. 3. The foot-stalk or stem of a flower, பூங் கொம்பு. (p.) 4. A narrow stick; a staff, pole, கோல். 5. A musical instrument; a cornet, horn, ஊதுகொம்பு. 6. A tusk of an elephant or hog, யானைமுதலியவற்றின்தந்தம். 7. The curllike symbol in certain compound characters--as in நெ, பொ, &c., அக்கரத்தின்கோடு. 8. The bent front pole of a palankeen, சிவி கையின்கொம்பு. 9. (fig.) Eminence, greatness, மேன்மை. 1. (loc.) The outlet of a tank, ஏரிக்கோடி. பறக்குங்குருவிக்கு இருக்குங்கொம்புதெரியாது, பரதே சிக்குத்தங்குமிடந்தெரியாது. The migrating bird knows not the branch on which it may roost; and the pilgrim known not his halting place. பழுத்தபழங்கொம்பிலிராது. The ripe fruit remains not on the branch; i. e., at the appointed time, the event will happen. பிடித்தகொம்புமொடிந்துமிதித்தகொம்புமுறிந்தாற்போ லானேன். I was like a man in whose hands and under whose feet the branches had given way; i. e. I was without support. கொம்புசுற்றிக்காற்றடிக்கிறது. The wind blows and whirls around every branch. ஏதுகொம்புமுளைத்துவிட்டதோ. Have his horns grown? used when a person shows pride,insubordination, &c. கொம்படிக்க, inf. To butt--as oxen, buffaloes, rams, goats, &c. 2. (fig.) To assume authority, to be supercilious. கொம்பனையாள்--கொம்பனாள், s. She whose waist is as tender and narrow as the stem of flower. (p.) கொம்பன், s. A tusked elephant or other beast. 2. A kind of cholera or small-pox. கொம்பன்சுறா, s. The sword fish, (lit.) the horned shark. கொம்பாள், s. [loc.] A man looking out from a tree. Sometimes கொம்பத்தாள். கொம்புத்தேன், s. [prov கொப்பாந் தேன்.] Honey formed by bees on branches. கொம்புப்பயறு, s. A kind of pulse. கொம்புப்பாகல்--கொம்பன்பாகல். A kind of winding பாகல் creeper. கொம்பாடவிடான். He suffers no one else to take the lead; assumes too much. கொம்பேறிமூர்க்கன்-கொம்பேறிமூக்கன், s. [loc.] A long dangerous snake living in trees. அசைக்கொம்பு--ஆடுகொம்பு--தோற் கொம்பு, s. A moveable horn fixed in the skin. கடைக்கொம்பு--உளிக்கொம்பு, s. Stump of a horn. கவர்க்கொம்பு--கவட்டைக்கொம்பு-கிளைக்கொம்பு, s. A branched horn. திருகுகொம்பு--முறுக்குக்கொம்பு, s. Winding or tortuous horn. மட்டைக்கொம்பு--விரிகொம்பு, s. Horns extended on both sides. முகக்கொம்பு--முன்கொம்பு, s. Horns setting down towards the ground. மோழைக்கொம்பு, s. Horns hindered from growing by being burnt. உச்சிக்கொம்பன், s. A beast with perpendicular horns near together. ஏந்துகொம்பன், s. An elephant with curved tusks. 2. An ox with horns rising abruptly and projecting forward at the points. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant with one tusk, the other being broken. 2. Ganésa. See ஒற்றை. கணைக்கொம்பன், s. An ox with stunted horns. கிளிக்கொம்பன், s. See under கிளி. கூடுகொம்பன், s. An ox whose horns come near together at the points. கூர்ங்கொம்பன், s. Sharp-horned ox. கூழைக்கொம்பன், s. An ox with stubbed horns. நாரைக்கொம்பன், s. [prov.] An ox with long white horns. பவளக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks resemble coral in color. பிடிக்கொம்பன், s. Short-horned beast. மாடைக்கொம்பன், s. A bullock with horns bent backwards. முத்துக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks, in color, resemble pearl. விரிகொம்பன், s. An ox with spreading horns. கொம்புக்காரன், s. [prov. கொம்பூதி.] A horn blower. கொம்புக்கால், s. The ெ with ா--as ெ-ா, with க--making கொ. கொம்புகாலி, s. [prov.] A palankeen bearer; a term of reproach. கொம்புப்பிறை, s.
