pṟai (p. 303) s. Drum, tabor of various kinds as beaten for public proclamation, or on festive or mournful occasions, commonly by the Pariah caste வாச்சியம். 2. The Pariah caste, any thing mean, vile, ஓர்சாதி. 3. A corn measure of twenty-four சேர்க்கொத்து, a bushel. A parai, sometimes of thirty measures, ஓரளவு. Compare பரை. 4. A wooden measure, ஓரளவுகருவி. 5. Sound of a drum, பறையோசை. 6.Word, saying, declaration, statement, சொல். 7. [ex பற, fly. ] Wing. feather, plumage, இறகு.--There are several classes among Pariahs, namely, வள்ளுவப் பறை, தாதப்பறை, தங்கலான்பறை,துற்சாலிப்பறை, குழிப்பறை, தீப்பறை, முரசப்பறை, மொட்டப்பறை, அம்புப்பறை, வடுகப்பறை, ஆலியப்பறை, கோலியப் பறை, வழிப்பறை, வெட்டியார்ப்பறை, சங்குப்பறை. பறைக்கம்பு, s. A rod for striking off grain, in measuring, a strickle. பறைக்காளி--பறைக்காலி--பறைக்கால், s. [vul. பறக்காளி.] Muslin of fine cloth woven by Pariahs; also used for a coarse kind. பறைக்குடி, s. A Pariah family. பறைக்கோலம், s. Mean attire or appearance. பறைசாற்ற, inf. To publish govern ment orders by beat of drum. 2. [fig.] To blab out secrets, to tattle, வெளிப்படுத்த. பறைச்சேரி, s. A Pariah village. பறைதட்ட, inf. To beat a drum. 2. As பறைசாற்ற. 3. To strike off the பறை measure, தலைவழிக்க. பறைதட்டினாற்போல. As the beating of a drum; or as a measure of grain, stricken. (used for a distinct sound, or for exactness.) பறைத்துணி, s. [prov.] A coarse kind of cloth made by Pariahs. 2. A dirty cloth. பறைநாகம், s. The black hooded-snake, being the larger kind-oppos. to பாப்பார நாகம். பறைபோட--பறையறைய, inf. As பறைசாற்ற. பறைப்பருந்து, s. A brownish kind of kite or hawk. பறைப்பழக்கம், s. Pariah habits, practices &c. 2. Low, vile, degraded habits. பறைப்பாட்டு, s A song sung by a Pariah, any low song. 2. Low abuse, as offered by a Pariah, &c., திட்டு. பறைபாட்டுக்குஞ் [or பறைப்பேச்சுக்கும்.] சுரை ப்பூவிற்குமணமில்லை. The song or speech of a Pariah, and the flower of சுரை gourd are both destitute of fragrance. பறைப்புடையன், s. A kind of புடை யன் serpent. பறைப்பூச்சி, s. [prov.] A spider. பறைப்பேச்சு, s. Low, vulgar language, the ungrammatical dialect of Pariahs. பறைமுழக்கு, v. noun. The sounding of drums by Pariahs at the temples of the ferocious deities, and at cross roads, in case of sickness. பறைமுறை, s. Publishing by beat of drum. பறைமுறைசாற்ற--பறைமுறைபோட --பறைமுறையிட, inf. As பறைசாற்ற. பறைமேளம், s. The drum of Pariahs. பறையர், s. [pl.] The drummer caste. பறையவளவு, s. A Pariah compound. garden, &c. பறையவீடு, s. A Pariah house. பறையன், s. [fem. பறைச்சி, pl. பறை யர்.] A beater of a drum. 2. A low caste man. சாண்பறைக்குமுழத்தடி. A stick of an arm's length, for a Pariah of a span in height; i. e., the vulgar must be forced to work by flogging. பறையனும்பார்ப்பானும்போல. As unlike as a Pariah and a Brahman. பறையாமை, s.
