Desire for wealth, covetousness, பொருளாசை. அத்தோதயம்--அர்த்தோதயம், s. The rising of the sun and moon, in conjunction, at the beginning of which, the sun is in Capricorn on a Sunday in the month of January, and the moon in the 22d asterism, and the 17th யோகம்; deemed a most auspicious moment for religious bathing, alms-giving and other duties. These five things do not occur together oftener than once in sixty years. An important circumstance is the half rising of the sun, with which are connected the four other things abovementioned, ஓர்விசேடநாள். அத்தோதயஸ்நானம், s. A dog, நாய். அற்ப ஆசை கோடிதவத்தைக்கெடுக்கும். The coveting of a small thing destroys the penance of years. இதொரு அற்பகாரியம். This is a trifling thing. அற்பசங்கை--அற்பாசமனம், s. The act of making urine, modesté--in reference to those who wear the string. அற்பத்தனம், s. Vileness, meanness. அற்பபுத்தி, s. Low wit, folly, silliness. அற்பமாய், adv. Meanly, basely, vilely. அற்பன், s. (pl. அற்பர்.) An inferior, low-caste or ill-bred person, a mean person. அற்பனுக்குப்பவிஷுவந்தாலத்தராத்திரியிற்குடை பிடிப்பான். If a mean person has obtained wealth, he will carry an umbrella even at midnight. 67)

[v. noun. பலியூட்டு.] To sacrifice to a deity. 2. To feed crows, &c., with rice, as representing some deity. பலியெடுக்க, inf. To prey on the life of a person, or animal--as a demon, supposed to happen through exposure in a crossway, at midday, midnight, &c. பலியேற்க, inf. pūcai (p. 329) s. Worship, homage to superiors, or adoration of the gods, with the proper ceremonies, ஆராதனை. W. p. 548. POOJA. 2. Food, eatables, given to religious mendicants, மயேசுரபூசை. 3. [ironically.] A good flogging, அடி.-- Note. பூசை is two-fold: 1. அந்தரியாகபூசை, internal or mental worship; 2. பகிரியாகபூசை, external worship. The four special seasons for the கிரியாபூசை, at the temples are பிராதக் காலம், at dawn; 2. மாத்தியானிகம், at midday; 3. சாயங்காலம், at sunset; 4. அர்த்த சாமம், at midnight. Two other seasons are observed in some temples, at nine in the morning, and nine at night. பூசாகாலம், s. Time of offering puja, ஆராதனைவேளை. பூசாசாரி, s. A priest, one who offers puja, at small fanes not Brahmanical; an exorcist. See பூசாரி. பூசாபலம்--பூசாபலன், s. Merit of puja. பூசாபலன்பண்ணினவன், appel. n. One who receives in the present life, the reward of merit in a former state. பூசாமுகம்--பூசைமுகம், s. Presence of the puja. பூசாவிதி, s. A directory for puja. பூசைகாண, inf. To attend on or be present at, the performance of puja. பூசைகொடுக்க, inf. To give eatables to religious mendicants. 2. [in irony.] To give a good flogging. பூசைத்திரவியம், s.
