A stone placed at the entrance of a sluice to prevent the water from flowing, மதகடைக்குங்கல். அடைகுளம், s. [prov.] A tank with no outlet, pent up, stagnant water. அடைசீலை, s. Cloth steeped in a medical preparation and put in the mouth for a sore throat, &c., அடைசுபொட்டணம். அடைத்தகுரல், s. A hoarse, husky voice. அடைபட, inf. To be closed, shut up, அடைக்கப்பட. 2. To be obstructed, as a passage, &c., தடைபட. அடைப்பன், s. Obstruction of the throat, quinsy in cattle, ஓர்வியாதி. அடைப்பு, v. noun. Shutting, closing, stopping. 2. s. Obstruction. 3. Enclosure. 4. Trees, &c., enclosed. 5. A plug, stopper, peg. 6. A door. காதடைப்பு, s. Obstruction of the ears or dullness of hearing, from cold, hanger. (c.) மாரடைப்பு, s. Obstruction of the breast. அடைமழை, s. aṭaicu (p. 8) கிறேன், அடைசினேன், வேன், அடைச, v. n. To deviate from a course, recede, give place to, ஒதுங்க. 2. To incline towards a color, நிறஞ்சார. 3. To crowd, get close together, increase, நெருங்க. 4. v. a. To stuff in, compress as cotton in a pillow, grass in a basket, &c., put or keep in the mouth as betel, ஒதுக்க. 5. To cleave or adhere to, கிட்ட. 6. [prov.] As அடைய. அடைசிப்போ. Give way, make room. அடைசுபலகை, s. A board to fill the space above a door frame. 23)

அனைய
aṉaiya (p. 33) --அன்ன. The crude form of a symbolic verb derived from the demonstrative அ, having two distinct uses. As a term of similitude, it is an affix but regularly conjugated in two forms, being complete in each, in all it persons, varieties and uses, as a verb, a participle, a noun, &c., the same as other symbolic verbs. It also expresses likeness to the person or thing indicated by the word to which it is affixed, உவம வுருபு. 2. It is sometimes equivalent to the simple pronoun; as, அன்னான். Such a man. (p.) Singular. அனையன்--அனையேன். I am like. அனையாய்--அனையை. Thou art like. அனையன்--அனையான். He is like. அன்னான். Such a man. அன்னாள். Such a matron. அன்னது. Such a thing. Plural. அனையெம்--அனையேம்--அனையோம். We are like. அனையிர்--அனையீர். Ye are like. அனையர்--அனையார். They are like. அன்னர்--அன்னார். Such persons. அனைய--அனையன--அன்ன. They (things) are like. அனையமன்னற்கழிவுமுண்டாங்கொலோ? Can such a prince ever be ruined? பவளமனையவாய். The coral-mouthed. எம்மனோர்க்கியம்புமாறரிதே. It is not possible for mortals like me to declare, &c. மயிலன்னாய். அபிமந்திரணம்
apimantiraṇam (p. 17) s. Conjuration, enchantment, மந்திரவித்தை. 2. Consecration, பிரதிஷ்டை. Wils. p. 54. AB'HIMANTRANA. அபிமந்திரிக்க, inf. To conjure, enchant by means of incantation with sacred ashes, &c., held by a magician in his hand and afterwards thrown on the person to be enchanted and into his mouth; applied also to cure a disease, or to effect some specific object; to repeat incantations with the reception or administration of medicine, மந்திரவித்தை செய்ய. 2. To consecrate, பிரதிஷ்டை பண்ண. 14) *

அரை
arai (p. 27) s. Half, பாதி, (marked &tamilhalf;, &tamilhalf, or இ.) 2. Waist, middle, loins, இடை. 3. That part of the trunk of a tree, or shrub, which reaches from the ground to where the branches begin, (occurs only in composition) thus: கோழரை, a smooth trunk, like the plantain; பொரியரை, a rough trunk, like the tamarind or mangoe; முள்ளரை, a thorny trunk. அரைக்கச்சு--அரைக்கச்சை, s. A girdle, a belt, zone worn round the waist. அரைக்கால், s. The eighth part of the whole, half a quarter, marked , .) அரைச்சதங்கை, s. A string of bells worn by children round the waist. அரைஞாண்--அரைநாண்--அரை நூல், s. A cord worn round the loins to which the cloth to cover the nakedness is attached, or sometimes worn over the inner cloth, and made of gold, silver, &c., called, பொன்னரைஞாண், வெள்ளியரை ஞாண், பட்டையரைஞாண். &c. அரைநலவன், s. [prov.] A bull not well castrated. அரைநாவை, s. A part of the plough which receives the share bent one side and unfit for use, the tip of a hoe bent one side. அரைநாள், s. The half of a day. அரைப்பட்டிகை, s. A golden or silver plate or girdle worn by dancing girls and some other women round the waist, sometimes also by men, இடையணியினொன்று. அரைப்பூட்டு. Girdle, இடைக் கட்டு. 2. A joint of the loins, இடுப்பின் பொருத்து. அரைமூடி, s. A small plate of metal worn by little girls over the private parts. அரையாப்பு--அரையாப்புக்கட்டி, s. A venereal swelling, tumor or bubo about the groin, மேகநோயாலிடையிலுண்டா கும்பரு. அரைவடம், s. A string of beads worn round the waist. (p.) அரைவட்டம், s. A semi-circle, 2. A small plate of metal worn by very small female children, as அரைமூடி. அரைவயிறன், s. [prov.] Rice husks half full, or with the grains half perished, for want of rain, &c., கருக்காய். அரைவாசி, s. Half. (c.) அரைவாய், s. Half a mouthful. 2. A flat mouth with thin lips. அரைவெறி, s. The state of being half drunk, partial intoxication. 4)
