iẕu (p. 55) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To draw, pull, haul, drag, tug, drag to justice, to drag along the ground, ஈர்க்க. 2. To attract--as a magnet, ஊசி முதலியவீர்க்க. 3. To attract--as a snare, to entice, allure, inveigle, seduce, draw over to one's interests, வசமாக்க. 4. To strain, stretch, lengthen or attenuate by pulling, to draw out, நெடுகச்செய்ய. 5. To drag one into an affair, to cite, force one to court, &c., to drag one's name, &c. in support of an argument or practice, வலிகக. 6. To upbraid, drag out one's faults to view, to cast reproaches, insults, &c., புறத்திலிழு க்க. 7. To draw into, swallow up, engulph --as a stream, a whirl-pool, a whirl-wind, சுழித்துவாங்க. 7. To absorb--as a sponge, to absorb humors from the body, to draw-as a medicine or plaster, உறிஞ்ச. 8. To draw out the voice, lengthen the sound properly in singing, to draw in speaking, reading, &c., நீட்டிப்பேச. 9. To strain muscularly, distort the features or limbs in spasms, &c., to have the cramp, to be convulsed; in this sense, it is often used impersonally, வலியிழுக்க. 1. v. n. To linger, to be protracted, தாமதிக்க. இழுத்துப்பாடு. Sing, dwelling on the notes. தாய்வருமளவும்பேச்சிழுத்தாள். She protracted, continued the conversation, till her mother came. அந்தவழக்குவெகுபணமிழுத்துப்போட்டது. That law-suit has swallowed up a great deal of money. காரியமிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகின்றது. The affair is protracted, the business is delayed, being involved in various intricacies. இப்படியிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநின்றாலொன்றுந்தீராது. If you protract the matter so carelessly, you cannot expect a happy result. வழக்கிலேயிழுத்துவிட்டார்கள். They have dragged the matter into court. ஊர்க்காரியங்களையிழுக்க To make a long story, unnecessarily talking of other people's affairs. உன்காரியத்திலென்னையிழாதே. Do not draw me into your affairs, as a witness, party, &c. காரியத்திலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறார்கள். They pull against or away from each other-as two parties, &c., they dissent, are unsettled (fig.), from the idea of two beasts tied together. இழுத்துக்கொண்டுவர, inf. To put off from day to day. என்கடனைத்தீர்க்காமலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகிறான். He delays to pay the debt he owes me. இழுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak drawlingly. இழுத்துவலிக்க, inf. To draw in a rope, or cord--as attached to a net, paper-kite, &c. இழுத்துவிட, inf. To put off, to protract, to delay, continue putting off and never fulfilling. 2. To bring into court, indict, prosecute, expose to the public. மடியைப்பற்றியிழுக்க, inf. To seize one's lap and pull him. காலிழுத்துநடக்க, inf. To trail the leg in walking--as a lame man. இழுபறி, s. A scuffle, a struggle, strife, squabble, வாது. இழுப்பு, v. noun. Drawing, pulling, draught, a pull, a tug, a twitch, இழுக் கை. 2. Attracting, attraction, allurement, inviting, engaging. 3. Distortion of the limbs or features by convulsions, cramp, &c. 4. Absorption. 5. Draught or force of a current, wind, &c. 6. Procrastination, tardiness, protraction, suspense, uncertainty. The meanings of the verb generally are applicable also to the verbal noun. அதிலே முன்னிழுப்புப்பின்னிழுப்பில்லை. In that matter, there can be no dispute one way or the other. இழுப்பறை, s. A box in a case, a drawer. இழுப்பாட்டம், s. Tardiness, protraction, procrastination. இழுப்பாட்டியம், s. [prov.] Procrastination, protraction, tardiness, delay--used instead of இழுப்பாட்டம். இழுப்பாணி, s. [prov.] A delayer, postponer, lingerer. 2. A moveable peg that fastens the yoke to the beam of the plough. இழுப்புண்ண, inf. To be drawn unwillingly--as some persons when they are compelled to attend court; to be forced or dragged into an affair. 2. To be allured, seduced, decoyed; to be diverted from the business in hand, be tempted, be led away by lust, be ensnared, சிக்கிக்கொள்ள. இழுப்புப்பறிப்புப்பட, inf. [vul.] To scuffle, struggle, contend. 2. To pull one another--as persons intoxicated, or in play. இழுவல், v. noun. [prov.] The act of drawing. 2. Putting off, lingering, delaying, postponing. 3. One who neglects his own affairs and busies himself with those of others. அவனொரு இழுவல். He is a busy-body, drawn into every one's business. இழுவை, v. noun. A being drawn, draught, இழுப்பு. 2. Any thing drawn-as a draught of thorns, timbers, fishes, &c., இழுக்கப்பட்டவை. 3. A long rope for draught, இழுக்கும்வடம். 4. The mark or point made on the ground by a thing drawn, சுவடு. இழுவைகண்டாலடிப்பார்க்கிறதேன்? When the track in which the thing was dragged is plain, why look for footsteps? 37)

ucumpu (p. 59) கிறேன், உசும்பினேன், வே ன், உசும்ப, v. n. To move, stir--as from a state of rest or sleep, to be in motion--as wind; to show signs of life, to be just moveable, அசைய. 46) *

ōṭu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஓடினேன், வேன், ஓட, v. n. To run, flee, flee away, pass quickly, விரைந்துசெல்ல. 2. [used with the impers. terminations.] To grow long, extend, be long, go far, நீள. 3. To divide, split, crack, வெடிக்க. ஓடவுமாட்டான் பிடியுங்கொடான். He will neither run, nor suffer himself to be caught. அவனுக்குஎழுத்துநடையோடாது. He cannot read freely. ஊரோடுகையிலொக்கவோடு. Run when your fellow-countrymen do; i. e. do as others do. வேரோடுகிறது. The root runs (into the ground). கப்பலோடுகிறது. The ship is sailing, is under sail. ஓடவைத்தல், v. noun. Refining metals, புடம்வைத்தல். இழிவினோடொன்றிநின்றவாடகத்தையோடவைக் குமாறுபோல். As refining gold spoiled by mixture with the same metal of inferior quality. (பார.) ஓடவைத்தபொன், s. Refined gold. ஓடாணி, s. [in jewelry.] A pin or bolt passed into an ornament as a fastening, ஆபரணக்கடைப்பூட்டு. ஓடித்திரிய, inf. To run about. 2. To assume airs. 3. To take great pains, &c., to attain an object. ஓடிப்படர, inf. To run and spread as a creeper. ஓடிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To overtake in running. ஓடிப்போக, inf. To run away. ஓடியாடிப்பார்க்க, inf. To go about, to endeavor. அவன்ஒருஉத்தியோகத்திற்கோடியாடிப்பார்க்கிறா ன். He goes about in pursuit of a situation. ஓடியுறைய, inf. To congeal gradually, இறுக--chiefly used in the past. கஷாயமெல்லாமோடியுறைந்தது. The decoction is all congealed. ஓடிவர, inf. To approach at a running pace. ஓடிவிறைக்க, inf. To extend--as stiffness over the body through cold, முழுதும்விறைக்க. ஓடிவெளிக்க, inf. [prov.] To be dispelled--as clouds; to clear--as the sky, முகில்பரந்தொழிய. 2. To be discovered--as fraud, theft, &c., களவுவெளிப்பட. அவர்வஞ்சகமெல்லாமோடிவெளித்துப்போயிற்று. He has discovered the imposition, &c. மழையோடிவெளித்துப்போயிற்று. The appearance of rain is past away, the sky is become clear. ஓடுதாவடி, s. Bustle and confusion in preparing--as for a journey, &c., going abroad--as for business, &c., in a time of bustle, &c., கலக்கம். ஓடுதாவடிப்படுதல், v. noun. Being in a bustle--as in preparing for a journey, &c. ஓடுபந்தல், s. [prov.] A moveable canopy supported on cords, &c., நடைக் காவணம். ஓடுவிப்புருதி, s. A running cancer, ஓர்புண். ஓட்டம், v. noun. Running, flight, galloping, speeding, ஓடுமோட்டம். 2. Current, flowing, course, pace, drift, நீரோட் டம். 3. Defeat, rout, retreat, flight, தோல்வி. அங்கேநானெடுத்தஓட்டமிங்கேவந்தோய்ந்தது... I ran all the way hither. அவனுக்கெழுத்தோட்டமில்லை. He does not read fluently. ஓரோட்டமாய்வா. Come at once, come without halting, do not stay on the way. ஓட்டங்காட்ட, inf. To lead the way, to precede inducing others to follow. ஓட்டமாகவோட, inf. To run with great speed. ஓட்டமெடுக்க-ஓட்டம்பிடிக்க, inf. To set out running, start out with speed, to flee; to begin to run. நீரோட்டம், s. A current, a stream. 78)

The outlet of a tank, ஏரிக்கோடி. பறக்குங்குருவிக்கு இருக்குங்கொம்புதெரியாது, பரதே சிக்குத்தங்குமிடந்தெரியாது. The migrating bird knows not the branch on which it may roost; and the pilgrim known not his halting place. பழுத்தபழங்கொம்பிலிராது. The ripe fruit remains not on the branch; i. e., at the appointed time, the event will happen. பிடித்தகொம்புமொடிந்துமிதித்தகொம்புமுறிந்தாற்போ லானேன். I was like a man in whose hands and under whose feet the branches had given way; i. e. I was without support. கொம்புசுற்றிக்காற்றடிக்கிறது. The wind blows and whirls around every branch. ஏதுகொம்புமுளைத்துவிட்டதோ. Have his horns grown? used when a person shows pride,insubordination, &c. கொம்படிக்க, inf. To butt--as oxen, buffaloes, rams, goats, &c. 2. (fig.) To assume authority, to be supercilious. கொம்பனையாள்--கொம்பனாள், s. She whose waist is as tender and narrow as the stem of flower. tāraṇai (p. 234) s. Stability, steadiness, firmness, establishment, fixture, உறுதி. 2. One of the eight அங்கயோகம் of the silent, motionless devotee; fixing the mind, constantly on a member of the body as an expedient for keeping the thoughts from wandering. 3. Construction, arrangement, order, system, principles, established order of things either natural or artificial. See நவதாரணை. (Sa. Dha'ran'a.) நவதாரணை, The nine classes of things; existing or established by art; 1. நாமதாரணை, names appellations. 2. வச் சிரதாரணை,(probably) terms of architecture. 3. மாயாதாரணை, things formed by மாயை, as words, appearance of things created. 4. சித்திரதாரணை, paintings or sculpture. 5. செய்யுட்டாரணை, poems, poetry, compositions. 6. நிறை வு குறைவாகிய எண்பொருட்டாரணை, perhaps abstract numbers. 7. சத்ததாரணை, contrivance for the formation or modulation of sounds, as bells, musical instruments. 8. வஸ்துதாரணை, productions of art in general. 9. சதுரங்கதாரணை, a complete army of four kinds of forces. (See சதுரங்கம்.) II. The nine forms of worship practised by the Saiva Yogis. Their classification is: 1. நாமதாரணை, the worship of the Omnipresent God in the form of an image, to which is given his name. அளவிடப்படாதபிர மத்தைநாமத்தினால்வரையறைப்படுத்தல். 2. மாயாதா ரணை, worshipping the Supreme Being, who is unlimited, and without form, by the use of he formule, Maha Vakya (the great speech), accompanied by the entire renunciation of the world. This accords with the practice of the Adwita class of Vedantists, விகாரங்களில்லாதபாமரன் மாவினிடத்தில்புனைந்துரைக்கப்பட்ட பிரபஞ்சவியா பாரமாயையைத்துறப்பதற்குக்கருவியானமகாவாக்கியத் தைப்பொளுணர்ச்சியோடுஉச்சரித்தல். 3. பேததார ணை, an exercise of the Yogi to restrain his bodily affections, by uniting the vital air in the heart, பிராணன், in the podex, அபானன், in the body generally, வியானன், and in the throat, உதானன், these four, with that in the navel, சமானன்; and thus with the inward recital of the mystic O'm, to alter the position of his heart, supposed to be like a lotus flower with eight petals hanging downwards, பலமுறைஇயமாதிகள்செய்து, பிராணன், அபாணன், வியானன், உதானன் என்கிறவாயுக் களைச்சமானவா யுவுடனேசேர்த்து, கீழ்முகமாயிருக்கிற உள்ளக்கமலத் தைமேல்முகமாக்குகை, 4. மந்திரதாரணை, worshipping Siva by the famous five lettered incantation, நமசிவாய--rejecting the mystic O'm--ascribing to him the supremacy, and recognizing the universe as only the manifestation of Siva. Such as do this reject the primitive system, and believe in an all pervading soul of the universe, called Siva, எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் அதிஷ் டானமாய்எவையுமாகிறவன்சிவனேயென்று, பௌ ராணிகமந்திரங்களால்சிவத்தியானஞ்செய்தல். 5. சது ரங்கதாரணை, meditating on the Supreme Being, as one who having purified himself, and suspended his breath, unites the faculties of the mind with the four constituents of the body--earth, water, fire and wind--in the cavity of the crown of the head. This is done when the reason represented by fire; reflection by the wind; the will by water, are joined with resolution or passion, represented by earth, and all co-operate to fix the mind in the air, the seat of Brahma, காய சோதனம்பண்ணுகிறவன் நிலம், நீர், தீ, கால் என் னுஞ்சதுரங்கமாகிய அகங்காரசித்த புத்திமனசென்கிற வைகளைமுறையாக அடக்கி, பின்பு கால்வடிவானம னசை ஆகாயமாகியபிரமத்தானத்தில் சேரும்படிதியா னித்தல். 6. சத்ததாரணை, continual meditation of an ascetic in an immoveable posture, uttering the sounds of அ, உ, ம், or O'm. which represent the deity. This is done while closing the eyes and restraining all the external senses. By the mystic syllable, the வாதநாடி pulse is said to be purified, and its pulsation may be beard. (See கும் பகம்.) பிரமத்தையுணர்த்துகிற பிரணவத்தைத்தியான தாரணசமாதிகளால்அடைந்து, புறக்காணச்செய்கை யற்று, கும்பகத்தானமானவாதநாடியைச்சுத்திபண் ணி, நாதானுசந்தானத்தையடைதல். 7. வஸ்துதார ணை, the mental perception of Brahm, obtained by the firm power of thought, separated from external things, which unites the reason with the will, These combined, produce action or passion, Passion, reason and will are condensed in reflection, by which Brahm is perceived, பிறபொருளையடையாமல்அசைவற்றிருக்கிற மனமானதுபுத்தி, சித்தம், அகங்காரங்கள்மூன்றையு முறையேசேர்த்துக்கொண்டபின், அம்மனத்தால்பிரம த்தைத்தரித்தல். 8. வச்சிரதாரணை, rendering homage to Siva only in the Lingam. rejecting the lower positions which represent Brahma and Vishnu; and renouncing passion, and the corporeal senses, contemplating the divine essence with a fixed mind, பிரமன்வடிவாகியபீடத் தையும், திருமால்வடிவாகியவிவரத்தையும்நீக்கி, இலி ங்கத்தைமாத்திரம்பூசித்தல்என்றால்--அகங்காரத்தை யுஞ்சீவத்துவத்தையும்துறந்து, பரத்துவத்தையேதியா னித்தலாம், 9. சித்திரதாரணை, becoming ripe for absorption and approaching assimilation to the deity, by gaining a knowledge of the twenty-six properties of the body, the soul, and the Supreme Being (ஷட்விம்சகபாவம்). This is obtained by entirely forgetting the austerities practised, repeating continually the மகா வாக்கியம், solely contemplating the benefit to be derived, and then renouncing even that; the soul thus dominates over the immerging principle, arrives at a pure, spiritual knowledge and is merged in the Divinity, சத்தஉச்சரிப்பா லாகியமந்திரப்பிரயோகத்தைநீக்கி, பொருளையே ம னதில் அனுசந்தானம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, ஷட்விம் சகபாவத்தையடைந்து, பிராரப்தம் என்கிற கர்மபயன் களைமறந்து, சத்தார்த்தங்களையும்விட்டு, அறிவுமயமாயே இருத்தல். 32) *

Phenomena, நூதனக்காட்சி. The two classes of தோற்றம், or beings produced, are:--1. சரம், moveable creatures. 2. அசரம், inanimate beings, &c., which see. The four class of தோற்றம். 1. பை, or சார யுகம், viviparous, womb-born. 2. முட்டை, or அண்டசம், oviparous or egg-born. 3. நிலம், or உற்பீசம், germinating from the earth by seeds, &c. 4. வியர்வை, or சுவேதசம், insects supposed to be engendered by perspiration, &c., which see severally. வெள்ளிதோற்றம், s. The appearance of stars, as denoting the time of the evening auspicious for marriage, &c. பேய்த்தோற்றம், s. An appearance of an evil spirit. நிலாத்தோற்றம், s. Rising of the moon. தோற்றக்கவி, s. [loc. கட்டியக்காரன்கவி.] A verse sung immediately before the appearance of a person on the stage. தோற்றத்தரு, s. [prov.] The verse and tune sung at the appearance of a person on the stage, who dances round the area while it is sung. தோற்றப்பட, inf. To appear, to be visible, to be conspicuous. 2. To be formed to come into existence, to be born. தோற்றமாக, inf. To appear on the stage. 2. As தோற்றப்பட. தோற்றமொடுக்கம், s. Periodical appearance, and disappearance, production and dissolution, evolution. தோற்றப்பட்டவன்--தோற்றமானவன், appel. n. A conspicuous, celebrated or superior man. 70)
