One who deviates not from the instructions of his Guru. உபதேசகலை, s. That portion of the Vedas which treats of the divine attributes, operations, &c. See ஆகமம், also தந்திரகலை and மந்திரகலை. உபதேசகன், s. A teacher, an instructor, போதகன். Wils. p. 154. UPADESHAKA. உபதேசஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To give spiritual advice in secret, according to the proficiency, attainments, devotedness, &c., of the disciple. 2. To give advice, to instigate, &c. உபதேசம்பண்ண, inf. To initiate one into the mysteries of the religion by teaching the formul&ae;, &c. மந்திரோபதேசம், s. Teaching the muntra to the disciple. ஞானோபதேசம், s. cariyai (p. 167) s. A course of actions--as சரிதை, 1. (Little used.) 2. Observances of the first degree in Saivism which is entered upon by initiation of a Guru. The daily purification in idol worship, is of five kinds, viz; 1. பூதசுத்தி, cleansing the body, accompained by muntras. 2. ஆத்துமசுத்தி, mental purity by invocations. 3. திரவியசுத்தி, cleaning of the vessels, with attending incantations. 4. இலிங்கசுத்தி, the changing of the flowers, &c., before the idol, by which it is made pure. 5. மந்திரசுத்தி, by muntras repeating the mystic Om, and adding the five lettered நமசிவாய, or salutation to Siva. சுத்திசெய்ய--சுத்திபண்ண, inf.
