akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. AGNI. அக்கினிகணம், s. The same as தீக்கணம், an inauspicious measure. See கணம். (p.) அக்கினிகர்ப்பம், s. A spark. 2. A crystal with fabulous qualities. 3. A decayed cuttle-fish bone, Os sepi&ae;, கட னுரை. அக்கினிகலை, s. Breath coming from the nostrils, in சரசாத்திரம். அக்கினிகோத்திரம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். 2. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. (c.) அசுரநாள், s. The nineteenth lunar asterism, மூலநாள், Which is the natal nakshatra of the demons, and therefore considered very unlucky. (p.) அசுரமணம், s. One of the eight kinds of marriage. apicittu (p. 17) s. An expunged nakshatra, sometimes introduced after the 21st, for astrological purposes, thus increasing the number to 28, ஓரொட்டுநட்சத் திரம். 2. One of the eight muhurttas or hours, ஓர்முகுர்த்தம். Wils. p. 53. AB'HIJIT. 4) *

naṭcattiram (p. 268) --நக்ஷத்திரம், s. Star in general, தாரகைப்பொது. 2. Lunar constellations, நாண்மீன், of which there are twentyseven, forming the lunar Zodiac, with an extra mansion, having no stars of its own, but which taking parts of the contiguous asterisms makes the number twenty-eight. This intercalary asterism occures between the 21st and 22nd, and is used chiefly for astrological purposes. 3. The period during which the moon is passing through an asterism. W. p. 45. NAKSHATRA. The twenty-seven asterisms beginning with Aries are in order, as follows; 1. அசுபதி, or அச்சுவினி. 2. பரணி. 3. கார்த்திகை. 4. உரோகிணி. 5. மிருகசீரிடம், or மிருகசீர்ஷம். 6. ஆதிரை, or திருவாதிரை. 7. புநர்பூசம். 8. பூசம். 9. ஆயிலியம். 1. மகம். 11. பூரம். 12. உத்திரம். 13. அஸ்தம் or அத்தம். 14. சித்திரை. 15. சுவாதி or சோதி. 16. விசாகம். 17. அனுடம் or அனுஷம். 18. கேட்டை. 19. மூலம். 2. பூராடம். 21. உத்திராடம். 22. திருவோணம். 23. அவிட்டம். 24. சதயம். 25. பூரட்டாதி. 26. உத்திரட்டாதி. 27. இரேவதி. Each asterism consists of thirteen degrees and twenty minutes of the Zodiac. There is a particular star in each called யோகம் which serves as an index to the mansion. நட்சத்திரசக்கரம், s. The lunar asterisms collectively forming a lunar Zodiac. 2. Diagram for astrological calculations, as கலப்பைச்சக்கரம், &c. நட்சத்திரசீரகம், s. A kind of cumin, star-anise. See அனீசு. நட்சத்திரதீபம், s. A kind of lamp. நட்சத்திரபதவி, s. The starry sky, as நட்சத்திரமண்டலம். 2. The visible heavens, as a place of bliss for those having a certain degree of religious merit. நட்சத்திரப்பிரமாணம், s. The length of a nakshatra. நட்சத்திரமண்டலம், s.
