oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . Connection, unity, relation, combination, சம்பந்தம். ஊக்கமொருவந்தங்கைத்துடையார். They who are intensely energetic. (குறள்.) ஒருவயிற்போலியுவமை, s. [in rhetoric.] உவமையணியிலொன்று. ஒருவழிப்படுதல், v. noun. Having the mind constantly directed to one point, மனமொருநெறிப்படல். 2. Being unanimous, united in the same object or pursuit, especially in divine things, ஒன் றுபடல். ஒருவன், s. One person, one man, ஒருத்தன். ஒருவர்க்காகவொருவர். One for, or in behalf of another. ஒருவர்க்கொருவர். One with another. ஒருவிசை, s. One time, once. ஒருவியாழவட்டம், s. A revolution of Jupiter round the sun; i. e. twelve years. ஒருவினைச்சிலேஷை, [in rhetoric.] A figure in which the verb conveys two different meanings, சிலேஷையணியிலொன் று--as அம்பொற்பணைமுகத்துத் திண்கோட்டணி நாகம்--வம்புற்றவோடைமலர்ந்திலங்க, உம்பர்-நவம்புரியுமாநதியுநாண்மதியுநண்ணத்--தவம்புரி வார்க்கின்பந்தரும். ஒருவேலைக்கிருவேலை, s. Double work, taking double trouble with a thing. ஒருவேளை, adv. Once, ஒருமுறை. 2. Sometimes, ஒருசமயம். 3. Perhaps. ஒரே, adj. Only. ஒரேகுமாரன்--ஒரேயொருபிள்ளை, s. An only son, an only child. ஒரோவொன்று, s. One, one in multiplication, one by one, one of each individually. ஒவ்வொரு, adj. Each. ஒவ்வொருகாரியம், s. One thing at a time. ஒவ்வொருமாதம், s. Every month, monthly. ஒவ்வொருவன், s. Each man. ஒவ்வொருவராய் வருகிறார்கள். They come one by one. ஒவ்வொருவேளைகளில், adv. Sometimes, occasionally. ஒவ்வொன்று, s. Each. ஒவ்வொன்றாய், adv. One by one. ஒவ்வொன்றாய்ப்பார்க்க, inf. To examine one by one. 11)

kṭai (p. 88) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. a. To churn, தயிர்கடைய. 2. To turn in a lathe, மரமுதலியனகடைய. 3. To form moulds on a wheel--as a brazier, தரா, செம் புமுதலியனகடைய. 4. To rub two sticks together till they ignite, தீக்கடைய. 5. To mash yams or other vegetable, &c., to a pulp with the bowl of a ladle, பருப்புமுதலிய னகடைய. கடைந்தமோரிலேவெண்ணெயெடுக்கப்பார்க்கிறான். He is trying to get butter from whey; i. e. he is too exacting, rigorous. கடைந்தவெண்ணெய்மோர்புகா. Butter produced by churning will not again be diffused through the milk. கடைகோல், s. Two sticks for kindling fire by attrition--commonly தீக்கடைகோல். கடைந்தகுமிழ், s. A turned knob. கடைந்தெடுத்தநெருப்பு, s. Fire produced by attrition. கடைமரம், s. A lathe, கடைகின் றமரம். கீரைகடைய, inf. To mash potherbs into a pulp. தயிர்கடைய, inf. To churn curds to produce butter. கடைச்சல்--கடைதல்--கடைவு, v. noun. Churning curds, தயிர்கடைகை. 2. Turning on a lathe on the brazier's wheel, மரங்கடைகை. 3. Turning sticks to produce fire, தீக்கடைகை. கடைச்சலுளி, s. A turner's chisel. கடைச்சல்பிடிக்க, inf. To turn in a lathe. கடைச்சல்மரம், s. A turner's lathe. கடைச்சல்வேலை, s. Turning-the work of a turner. கடைச்சற்காரன், s. A turner. 11)

kṉ (p. 102) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To be heavy, to become heavy, massive, solid, thick, hard, injurated, பாரமா யிருக்க. 2. To be thick, close, crowded, numerous, பருக்க. 3. To be abundant, copious, to outweigh, &c., அதிகரிக்க; the infinitive used adverbially expresses very much. கனக்கக்கொடுத்தான். He gave plentifully. கனத்தஉடைமைக்கனர்த்தமில்லை. Solid property will not soon be injured. காரியங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The matter has become more serious. குற்றங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The crime is aggravated. குரல்கனத்துப்போயிற்று. The voice is become heavy, hoarse--as of one who has reached manhood, one who drinks liquor, &c. கனத்தஆக்கினை, s. Severe punishment. கனத்தகுடி, s. An illustrious and noble family. கனத்தசமுசாரம், s. A numerous family. கனத்ததோல், s. Thick skin--as that of a beast or of the hand, &c., hardened and thickened by labor. கனத்தநாள், s. A critical day in diseases--as the day of new or full moon, &c., when the influence of the planets is unusually powerful, aggravating disease, &c. On such days it is deemed improper to bathe, take medicine, &c. (c.). கனத்தபயிர், s. A thick crop. கனத்தபனி, s. A heavy dew. கனத்தமனிதன், s. A large heavy man. சரீரங்கனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To become heavy--as the body, by disease, humors, corpulency, &c. தலைகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To grow heavy--as the head through cold. வயிறுகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To have indigestion. 2. To eat a belly-full, to be well stuffed. 3. To become gravid; sometimes in this meaning, spoken in contempt, of pregnancy from illicit intercourse. கனப்பு, v. noun. [vul.] Thickness, becoming thick, கனம். 2. Weight, heaviness, solidity, gravidity, பாரம். 3. The hardness of a swelling, அழுத்தம். 4. stoutness, lustiness, grossness, கொழுப்பு. 5. Pride, self-importance, இறுமாப்பு. உன்கனப்பெடுத்துப்போடுவேன். I will reduce you. சரீரக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the body--as in plethora, &c. தலைக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness in the head. வயிற்றுக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the system from indigestion, constipation, &c. 29)

kllai (p. 96) s. The knob of a wooden sandal, பாதக்குறட்டின்குமிழ். (p.) 2. Leaves stitched together with fibre, இலைக்கலம். (பிங்.) 3. Calumny, aspersion, தூறு. கல்லைகுத்த--கல்லைதைக்க inf. To stitch leaves together--as a temporary plate. கல்லைசெய்ய, inf. To defame. கல்லைப்பட்டுப்போனவன்--கல்லை ப்பட்டவன், s. One who is defamed or illspoken of. 294)

kimpuri (p. 109) s. A man's shoulder-ornament, a kind of epaulet, தோளணி. 2. A ring or knob on an elephant's tusk, யானைக்கொம்பிற் பூண். 3. The ornamental boss of a crown, being one of its five parts, முடியின்கிம்புரி. 4. (சது.) An ornamental knob, boss, or ring in general, பூணாகக்கட்டும்ஆபரணம். 60) *

kuṭam (p. 116) s. A large kind of earthen pot, கும்பம். 2. A sign of the zodiac; Aquarius, கும்பவிராசி. Wils. p. 226. KUT'A. 3. Sugar, jaggery, molasses, சருக்கரை. 4. A globular or round part of a pillar, a cylindrical body, திரட்சி. Wils. p. 29. GUD'A. எண்ணெய்க்குடமும்வெறுங்குடமும்முட்டினாலெ தற்குச்சேதம். If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s. A full water-pot; very good parts; a capable head. குடமூக்கு, s. The town of Combaconum, See கும்பகோணம். குடமூத, inf. To make a sound by blowing into pots, with dancing or jumping--as low-caste women at marriages and in some places at a temple, குடத் தினுள்ளூதியொலிபிறப்பிக்க. குடம்விட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. [prop.] To decorate the marriage pole with stiffened cloth, so as to resemble pots placed one on another. குடமுழா, s. A kind of drum made of a pot, முழவு. குடமல்லிகை, s. A kind of jasmine, ஓர் மல்லிகை, Jasminum sambac, L. Arabian jasmine. See மல்லிகை. குடமுருட்டி, s. A branch of the Kavery, ஓர் ஆறு. குடச்சிப்பி, s. A round shell or conch. குடவுழுந்தர், s. The name of a celebrated poet who, in his youth, was as long in getting a lesson as it required to fill a pot with lentils, உழுந்து, one at a time, ஓர்புலவன், குடவெழுத்தாணி, s. An iron-style with knobs or balls at the top, one above another, tapering to a point. குடம்வைத்தல், v. noun. Playing with the fists one on another, and knocking off the upper in succession, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குடமண், s. White sand, வெண் மணல். (M. Dic.) 26)

kuṭai (p. 117) s. Umbrella, parasol; canopy --as one of the twenty-one symbols of royalty and victory, ஆதபத்திரம். 2. The knob of a sandal, பாதகுறட்டின்குமிழ். 3. A tree with very large thorns, the குடைவேல், Mimosa, L. 4. The dance of Skanda, குமரனாடல். குடைகவிக்க--குடைபிடிக்க, inf. To bear an umbrella. குடைக்காம்பு, s. See under காம்பு. குடைக்காரன், s. An umbrella-bearer. குடைநிழற்ற, inf. To afford shade--as an umbrella. குடைக்காளான், s. A kind of mushroom, ஓர்காளான். குடைக்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To rise in a body--as milk over the fire, as some cakes in frying, &c. 2. To rise or be puffed up--as a cloth, &c. 3. To capsize, to be upset--as a cart. குடைச்செவி, s. Ears pricked up and bent forward--as those of an elephant, tiger, horse, &c., in attack, surprise, or rage, குடைக்காது. குடைப்பனை, s. Talipot Fan-palm, தாலபத்திரப்பனை, Corypha umberaculifera, L. குடையாணி, s. A pin or nail with a round head--as distinguished from சடையாணி. வெண்கொற்றக்குடை, s. The white canopy of royalty--as a symbol of victory. 14)
