[in astrology.] The rising of a sign above the horizon, the oblique ascension or the divisions of the equator which rise in succession with each sign in an oblique sphere--also defined as the arc of the equator which passes the meridian in the same time with each sign of the ecliptic, இராசிகளினுதயம். 2. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். If the beginning goes wrong, all will be wrong. This is superstitiously believed. கோணிக்கோணிகொடுப்பதிலுங் கோணாமற்காணி கொடுப்பதுஉத்தமம். It is better to give a little (காணி) with a good will than much (கோணி) with reluctance. கோணக்கோணஇழுக்க, inf. To distort the limbs, features, &c., as cramps, convulsion, &c. கோணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give unwillingly. (c.) முகத்தைக்கோணவைக்க, inf. To avert the countenance. 2. To make a wry face. முகங்கோண, inf. To look sour, harsh. கோணல், v. noun. It will be just sufficient for his expenses. தன்னைக்கட்டிநடக்கிறவன், appel. n. A frugal person, one who keeps within his income. தன்னைத்தாழ்த்த, inf. To humble or to abase one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தல், v. noun. Praising one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தலுந்தகும்புலவோர்க்கே. It becomes a poet to praise himself. தன்னையறிதல், v. noun. A girl becoming marriageable, பருவம்வாய்புறல். 2. Knowing one's self; i. e. knowing the power of the soul--as the ascetic, ஆ ன்மநிலையையுணர்தல். தன்னையறியாதசன்னதமில்லை. There is no want of self-possession; spoken of one supposed to be possessed by an evil spirit, yet retaining his conning. தன்னையறிந்தவன்தலைவனைஅறிவான். He who knows himself will know God. தன்னைமறந்தவன், appel. n. A selfrenouncing person, as an ascetic or a ஞானி. தன்னைமறுத்தல், v. noun. Self-denial. தன்னைவாட்டுதல்--தன்னையொறுத்தல், v. noun. tām (p. 234) (pl. of தான்.) They, themselves. 2. [in usage the 2d. per. sing. honorific.] You, your honor, &c., முன்னிலைச்சொல். 3. A சாரியை or emphatic particle suffixed to plural pronouns of any person, as அவர் தாம்வந்தார், he came. 4. An அசைநிலை, expletive, வருவர்தாம், they will come, they will indeed come. 5.
