To undermine, to injure by any underhand, clandestine means, சதிசெய்ய. கீழறை, s. An under-ground room, a cellar, நிலவறை. 2. A cavern, a cell, a hole or passage under ground, வளை. கீழாக, inf. To become depressed, to sink--as a stalk, a heap of muck, &c.; to deteriorate, to waste--as the body by use or disease; or as property, &c., தாழ் வடைய. கீழாக--கீழாய s. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. These signs, as well as the கீழ்நோக் கினநட்சத்திரம், are favorable for planting esculent roots and digging wells. கீழ்மேற்றென்வடல், s. The east, west, north and south. 42)

An incantation in the Saiva worship, the letters of which are mystic symbols of the forms of deity, or of the idol worshipped. The words are ஆம், ஊம், ஓம், சிவாயநம, in which ஆம், is அடி, basis; ஊம், is நடு, middle; ஓம், is முடி, top; சி, is சிவம், formless deity; வா, is சத்தி, the female principle, obscuration. நடுநிலைமை, s. Mediocrity, middle circumstances in life. நடுநிற்றல், v. noun. Becoming bail or security for one. (not the law term.) 2. Being upright, impartial. நடுநீதி, s. Impartial justice, equity, &c., as நடுநியாயம். நடுப்பகல், inf. Mid-day, noon. (c.) நடுப்படுத்த, inf. As நடுக்கட்ட. நடுப்பார்த்தல், v. noun. Zenith, meridian. நடுராசி, s. Middling in quality, size, &c., moderate, நடுத்தரம். நடுவதுபாதி, s. That which is in the midst, intermediate. நடுவதுபாதியிலேவந்தான். The middle finger. நடுவிலவன், s. [prov. நடுவிலான்.] A middle brother. நடுவிலே. In the midst, amidst. நடுவின்மை, s. Partiality, injustice, நீதிஇல்லாமை. (p.) நடுவீடு, s. The middle or interior of the house where the idol is kept. 2. An obscene expression, used in the south. நடுவீடுபெருவழியாயிற்று. The very interior of the house is become a public road; i. e., the family is ruined. நடுவீட்டுக்குநாயகமாய்வந்தான். He has come to lord it over us. நடுவீதி, s. The midst of the street. நடுவெலும்பு, s. The back bone, the spine, முதுகெலும்பு. (c.) நடுவெளி, s. Midst of an open plain, space, &c., இடைவெளி. 2. Immensity of space, a filled by the deity, பரவெளி. நடுவெளிக்கமலபாதம், s. Stinking; being offensive in smell, corrupt, or putrid. 2. A stinking thing, a stench, நாற்றமுடையது. நாறற்சரீரம், s. The vile body. நாறற்சோறு, s. Stale and spoiled rice. நாறற்சோற்றுக்குப்பதம்பார்ப்பானேன். Why taste spolied rice; i. e. why take pains to improve what is past recovery? நாறற்பாக்கு, s. Areca-nut soaked to improve the taste till the husk begins to purify. நாறல்மீன், s. Spoiled fish, stinking fish. நாறல்வாயன், s. A person with stinking breath. 2. (fig.) One who uses obscene language. நாறல்வாயன்தேடக் கர்ப்பூரவாயன் கைக்கொண் டான். What the stinking mouthed (the miser) has sought, the camphor mouthed (the benevolent) has obtained. 45)

peṟu (p. 334) கிறேன், பெற்றேன், வேன், பெற, v. a. To obtain, attain, secure, possess, அடைய. 2. To beget, generate, செனிப்பிக்க. 3. To bring forth, to have children, பிரச விக்க. 4. To experience, to be affected favorably or unfavorably, அனுபவிக்க. 5. To have the benefit or enjoy the privilege of, சுகிக்க. 6. v. n. To be worth, to bring a price, to be valid for, விலைபெற. 7. To be worthy, தக.--Note. In some cases this verb when preceded by another in the infinitive has much the sense of பட, as அடையப்பெறும், it may be had; சொல்லப் பெறும், it may be said; காணப்பெற்றறேன், I obtained sight of. ஆதாயத்தைப்பெற்றான். He obtained profit. இதுபடும்பிரயாசத்தைப்பெறாது. It is not worth the trouble. பத்துப்பணம்பெறும். It is worth ten fanams. அவன்பெறுமானவன். He is a worthy man. ஒருகாசும்பெறாதவேலை. It is worth nothing. பெற்றமனம்பித்துப்பிள்ளைமனங்கல்லு. The heart of the mother is bile [water]; the heart of the child is stone. பெறாத, neg. rel. part. Insufficient, unsound, ineffectual, &c. பெறாதஈடு. Insufficient security. பெறாதகாரியம். An unsound argument, or ineffectual lawsuit. பெறாதபேச்சு. Worthless talk. ஆற்றப்பெறாதவேதனை. Intolerable torment.
