To curb, to limit, to restrain, to restrict, அடக்க. 7. To oppose, to contradict, to interdict; to rebut, to repel, எதிர்க்க. 8. To frustrate, to thwart, குலைக்க. 9. To adjure, to hinter by oath, ஆணையிட. 1. To resist, to withstand, மறுக்க. 11. To forbid, as an ill omen, தவிர்க்க. 12. To dissuade, மறிக்க. 13. To hinder by magic, as the catching of birds, fishes, &c., or hitting a mark, மந்திரத்தாற் றடுக்க. 14. To detain, தாமதப்படுத்த. 15. To staunch blood, &c., இரத்தந்தடுக்க. To check a soul in its evil tendencies, as, to transmigration, &c., and bring it to bliss; to overrule, as divine grace, for the benefit of the soul. தடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf.
