The Sanscrit does not warrant the distinction which makes பட்டணம் a large and பட்டினம் a small city; but it is Tamil usage. பட்டணக்கரை, s. The town and its vicinity taken collectively. (colloq.) பட்டணசுவாமி, s. A devotee-poet of Caveripumpatnam, Who was a rich merchant, but renounced the world, and wrote many small poems; also பட்டணத்துப் பிள்ளை. 2.
