[also பில்லாங்குழல்.] A red-pipe. புல்லணர், s. The beard, தாடி. (p.) புல்லணை, s. A layer or bed of grass. புல்லரி, s. A handful of grass. புல்லரிசி, s. A kind of wild rice, the seed of a grass, eaten in time of scarcity, Cynosurus Egyptius. புல்லர், s. [pl.] The low, the base, கீழ் மக்கள். 2. Tribes that live by the chase, savages, வேடர். (சது.) புல்லறிவாண்மை, s. Stupidity, doltishness, மூடத்தனம். 2. Ignorance, destitution of moral cultivation, அறிவின்மை. புல்லறிவாளர், s. The ignorant, illiterate, the immoral, the vicious, அறி வீனர். (நாலடி.) புல்லறிவு, s. Ignorance, stupidity, மட மை. 2. Illiterateness, want of caltivation, அறிவின்மை. 3. Bad principle, perverted intellect, viciousness, தீமையான அறிவு. புல்லறுக்க, inf. To cut grass. புல்லன், s. An ignorant, base or vile man, அறிவீனன். 2. An incapable, useless man, பயன்படாதவன். 3. An unmannerly, uncleanly, clownish man, ஒழுக்கமில்லான். புல்லாங்கழி--புல்லாங்குழல்--புள்ளாங் குழல், s. A reed-pipe, as புல்லங்குழல். புல்லாமணக்கு, s. A plant, Melanthium Indicum. See ஆமணக்கு. புல்லாமொய்ச்சி, s. [vul. பில்லாம்பிச்சி.] A grassy place. புல்லுருவி--புல்லூரி, s. A parasitic plant. Loranthus pentandrus. புல்லுருவிபாய்கிறது. The parasite is spreading over the tree; i. e. injury is being done to families by hangers on. புல்லுருவிபடர்தல், v. noun. The spreading or running of the above. See under ஆல். புல்வாய், s. A kind of deer, கலைமான். (சது.) புல்விரியன், s. A grass-adder. புல்வீடு, s. A thatched house. புற்கட்டி, s. Pieces of turf or sod. புற்கட்டு, s. A bundle of hay. புற்கட்டை, s. A short grass, good for cattle. புற்குருவி, s. A kind of quail. (R.) புற்கை, s. A pap, of grass-seed meal, or a slender meal. 2. A kind of ricepap. 3. Boiled rice offered to idols. புற்கோரை, s. A grass, Cyperus juncifolius, ஓர்கோரை. புற்சாமை, s. A species of சாமை, grain. புற்பதி, s. The palmyra-tree, as the prince of the புல், tribes, பனை; [ex பதி.] புற்பறி, s. A grass-basket, ஓர்கூடை. புற்பாய், s. Mat made of grass of rushes, புல்லினாற்செய்தபாய். புற்பொழி, s. A turf, a sod, புற்பற்றை. புற்றாளி, s. The palmyra tree, பனை மரம். 2. mṭl (p. 339) s. Any thing flat and long, especially the leaves of the cocoa, palmyra, areka, plantain, screw-pine (தாழை) and wild date, Ph&oe;nix farinifera, ஈந்துமுதலியவற் றின்ஏடு. 2. A stand for sacred ashes. See திருநீற்றுமடல். 3. A poem, figuratively describing a disappointed lover riding on a palmyra-stem, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். 4. Stem of a palmyra branch for the above purpose. 5. Eye-lid, கண்ணிமை. 6. Husk enclosing the ears of maize, சோளக்கதிர்முதலியவற்றின் பொத்தி. 7. A flower-petal, பூவிதழ். 8. The standing pole of a well-sweep, ஏற்றமடல். 9. [prov.] A subsidiary stream or channel forming an angle with the main channel-as சிறுவாய்க்கால். 1. The external border of the ear, காதுமடல். 11. The shoulderblade and upper arm, தோள்மடல். மடலரிதாரம், s. Leaf-orpiment. மடலூர, inf. [in love poetry.] To ride on a palmyra-branch for a horse--as a disappointed lover. மடல்விரிய, inf. [poet. மடலவிழ.] To expand as a pine, or plantain-flowersheath. மடற்பரி--மடன்மா, s. [fig.] A palmyra stem used as a horse. மடற்பனை, s. A rough palmyra-tree difficult to ascend, commonly கங்குப்பனை. 2. [fig.] A snake, பாம்பு. 5. (சது.) A headless body, trunk, உடற்குறை. --Note. Most of the compounds are provincial. மட்டைகடிக்க, inf. To bite the lips, as a child in weaning. மட்டைகட்ட, inf.
