ōṭu (p. 84) s. The shell of an animal, ஆ மைமுதலியவற்றினோடு. 2. The shell of a nut, a pod, an egg, வித்துமுதலியவற்றினோடு. 3. A tile, தட்டோடு. 4. A piece of broken earthen ware, உடைந்தபானையோடு. 5. A skull, மண்டையோடு. 6. A mendicant's vessel for receiving alms, being commonly a shell or sherd, இரப்போர்கலம். 7. (fig.) Length, extension, நீளம். கேடுகாலத்துக்கு ஓடுகப்பறை. In time of distress a sherd may serve for an eating vessel; i. e. in time of need any thing will do. ஓடன், s. A tortoise, ஆமை. (M. Dic.) ஓடுபரப்ப--ஓடுமூட--ஓடுவேய, inf. culāvu (p. 197) கிறேன், சுலாவினேன், வேன், சுலாவ, v. a. [improp. சிலாவு.] To make water move or whirl round--as in rinsing a vessel, &c., சுற்ற. (c.) சலாவியூற்ற--சுலாவிவார்க்க, inf. To rinse and cast out. சுலாவியடிக்க, inf. To rush on--as a whirlwind; to sweep away--as an epidemic--as சுருட்டியடிக்க. c. சுலாவுதண்ணீர், s. [prov.] Very shallow water in the fields. சுலாவுரொட்டி, s. tṭvu (p. 221) கிறேன், தடவினேன், வேன், தடவ, v. a. and v. n. To stroke, embrace, fondle, to soothe, by patting or stroking, தடவர. 2. To grope, to feel one's way with the hands or feet as in the dark, to feel about, தெரியாமற்தடவ. 3. To anoint--as with liniment, to smear softly, to spread on lightly, எண்ணெய்முதலியதடவ. 4. To bedaub, besmear; to dirty, பூச. 5. To play on a lute with a bow, வீணைவாசிக்க. 6. To measure out very scantily, to strike off the measure too closely, முகந்தளந்துதடவ. 7. (fig.) To come stumbling and groping. தாடியைத்தடவ, inf. To stroke the chin as supplicating favors. வீடெல்லாந்தடவிப்பார். Search for it all over the house. எல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான்.
