iṭukku (p. 45) கிறேன், இடுக்கினேன், வே ன், இடுக்க, v. a. To press as between two boards, நெருக்க. 2. To pinch, இடுக்கிப்பிடிக் க. 3. To take between the fingers, toes, &c., to grasp--as a crab, with its claws; to lay hold of--as with pincers, to take under arms or between two things, குறடுமுதலிய வற்றாலிடுக்க. அவள்பிள்ளையையிடுக்கிக்கொண்டுவந்தாள். She came with her child on the hip, holding him under the arm. பொருளையிடுக்கிப்பிடிக்கிறான். He holds his property very stingily, tenaciously. இடுக்கி, s. Pincers, tongs, forceps, tweezers, nippers, குறடு. 2. A stingy, parsimonious person, a niggard, உலோபி. முள்ளிடுக்கி, s. Pincers to draw out thorns from the feet. இடுக்கிடை, s. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். இடுக்குதடி, s. A double stick used to press things with--as that of a toddy-drawer to press the flower or fruit-stem of the palmyra, &c. இடுக்குபனை, s. [prov.] Palmyra trees from which toddy is drawn. இடுக்குபிள்ளை, s. A child in arms carried on the hip, கக்கத்திலிடுக்கும்பருவமு டையபிள்ளை. இடுக்குமரம், s. A kind of oilpress, எண்ணெயூற்றுமரம். இடுக்கம், v. noun. Closeness, confinement, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 2. Affliction, adversity, straits, இடுக்கண். இடுக்கப்பட, inf. To become narrow, close, confined, ஒடுக்கப்பட. 2. To be oppressed, be persecuted, to suffer, துன்பப்பட. இடுக்கப்படுத்த, inf. [caus.] To make narrow, close, &c., நெருக்க. 2. iṟuku (p. 57) கிறது, இறுகினது, ம், இறுக, v. n. To become tight--as a bandage, knot, &c., to be strained, be close, hard, compact, &c.--as land dried by the sun, அழுந்த. 2. To grow thick in consistency, to coagulate, to be inspissated, be clotted, உறைய. 3. To congeal, become hard--as wax, metals, &c., to become dry--as mortar, clay, &c., கட்டியாக. 4. To become firm--as a loose tooth, பெலக்க. 5. To be close, rich, luxuriant--as growing corn, fruitful trees, &c., செறிய. எண்மண்டையிறுகிப்போயிற்று. My head feels day (needing oil and bathing). சளியிறுகிற்று. The phlegm (in the throat) is become hard. இறுகக்கட்ட, inf. To brace or fasten tight, close, compact, &c., அழுந் தக்கட்ட. இறுகத்தழுவ, inf. To hug, embrace closely, இறுகவணைக்க. இறுகப்பிசைய, inf. To knead hard, make close by kneading, அழுந்தப்பி சைய. இறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold fast, grasp tight, அழுந்தப்பிடிக்க. 2. To be stingy, parsimonious, tenacious, செலவு செய்யாதிருக்க. இறுகவிறுக, [adverbially.] Very tight, drawn tighter and tighter, அழுந்த வழுந்த. இறுகினகை, s. Close-fistedness, parsimony, ஈயாதகை. இறுகினதேகம், s. A firm, compact body. இறுகினமனம், s. An unrelenting heart, a close or parsimonious mind. இறுக்கம், v. noun. Tightness, closeness, compactness, hardness, tenacity, அழுத்தம். 2. Closeness of weather, sultriness, ஒடுக்கம். 3. Parsimoniousness, niggardliness, tenaciousness, கையழுத்தம். 4. Strictness, rigidness, pressure, நெருக்கம். இறுக்கமானகாலம், s. Sultry weather. 2. Hard times. 23)

iḷkkm (p. 55) s. [vul.] Laxity, tenderness, abatement in severity, suffering, &c., relaxation, indulgence, tenderness of mind, placableness, நெகிழ்ச்சி. இளக்கமாய்விற்றேன். [prov.] I sold it below its value. இளக்கமானபொன், s. Soft or pure gold. கையிளக்கமில்லாதவன், s. A closefisted, tenaceous, parsimonious person, a niggard.

ulvu (p. 66) கிறேன், உலவினேன், வேன், உலவ, v. n. To be modest, reluctant, sparing, parsimonious, கூசிக்குறைக்க 2. [a contraction of உலாவு.] To move about, walk, or ride about for recreation, or exercise. உலவலீரெனவோதுகின்றார்சிலர். Some said, Don't be afraid to eat. (ஸ்காந்.) உலவாவுலவாருமோதம். There is no administration of justice; no justice or satisfaction can be obtained. கேள்விமுயல். Be prompt in receiving information. கேள்விகொடுக்க, inf. To give ear, to listen--not elegant. கேள்விமறுமொழி, s. Question and answer; a catechism. கேள்விக்கடுதாசி, s. [prov.] Written application to a court of justice. 2. Tenders or proposals in writing. கேள்விக்காரர், s. [prov.] Bidders at an auction. 2. Persons who tender proposals at a purchase. 3. Candidates or applicants for an office. கேள்விச்செவி, s. Listening credulously to hear-say reports. கேள்விச்செவியன் ஊரைக்கெடுத்தான். The credulous ruler ruined the country. கேள்விப்பத்திரம், s. [prov.] A request, application, petition, &c., in writing. கேள்விகேட்பாடு, s. [local.] Judicial inquiry, investigation. கேள்வியற்றஊர்--கேள்வியில்லாதஊர், s. A town without justice. கேள்விமுறை, s. Inquiry into; superintendence, control, management. கேள்வியாக, inf. To be heard, to be reported; to reach the ears--as news; to be heard in court. கை கைகாட்டு, v. noun. Gesture with the hand, as in dancing; beck of the hand. கைகுவிக்க, inf. To hold up the hands joined, in worship, &c. See குவி. கைகுறண்ட, inf. To have the hands bent by spasms. 2. To be cramped in the hands. 3. To be stingy, parsimonious, close-fisted. கைகூச, inf. To be backward in using the hand. See கூசு. கைகூட, inf. To come to hand, be obtained, to succeed, அனுகூலப்பட. அவன்செய்வதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் கைகூடும். All that he does prospers. கைகூப்பு, v. noun. Raising the joined hands in worship--as கூப்பு. 2. The distance from the tip of the fingers to the feet, when the hands are joined and raised above the head. கைகொட்ட, inf. To clap the hands. கைகோக்க, inf. To clasp one another's hands, to join hands. 2. To be arm in arm, to take another's arm. கைகோத்தாட, inf. To dance with arms linked. கைகோள், s. A course of conduct, especially in love affairs. (அகப்பொ.) கேள்வி, v. noun. The grand subjects of information under four heads; 1. அ றம், virtue or a virtuous course of action; all knowledge relating to the nature or practice of virtue, or having virtue as its object, including religion, jurisprudence, ethies and every thing connected with the well-being of society, and the promotion of universal benevolence towards all sentient beings. This is subdivided into, 1. இல்லறம், the duties and usages of man--as a member of society. 2. துறவறம், the duties and practices of the recluse, who renounces social life and retires to the desert. 2. பொருள், wealth, property, substance; truth; all kinds of knowledge relating to the nature, acquisition and uses of learning and wealth--including. 1. கல்விப்பொருள், general knowledge, and science. 2. செல் வப்பொருள், property, trade, commerce and the various occupations for gain or the support of life. 3. இன்பம், delight, gratification, knowledge of the nature and means of pleasure and bliss--especially love and matrimony. 4. வீடு, liberation from births, knowledge relating to final emancipation or eternal felicity. --Note. Another classification makes five parts, the fifth embracing the practice of the rules laid down for the attainment of the benefits implied in the four. 72)

mṭṭu (p. 341) s. Measure, quantity, standard, degree, size, proportion, amount, அளவு. 2. Limit, extent, boundary, scope, range, எல்லை. 3. Estimate, conjecture from the eye, hand or mind, உத்தேசம். 4. Moderateness, tolerableness, that which is middling or common-place, மிதம். (c.) 5. (சது.) Toddy, fermented liquor, கள். அம்மட்டு--அம்மட்டும்--அந்தமட்டும். So much, so far. எம்மட்டு-எம்மட்டும்--எந்தமட்டும். How much, how far? என்மட்டிலேநானிருக்கிறேன். I am for myself. மட்டறிய--மட்டிட, inf. To guess, to make an estimate, மதிப்பிட. 2. To bear in mind so as to recognize, or identify; to know well, பழகியறிய. 3. To liken, compare with, ஒப்பிட. 4. To bind, stint, limit, அளவேற்படுத்த. மட்டாய், adv. Moderately, temperately. 2. Passably, tolerably. 3. As much as is needed. 4. Sparingly, parsimoniously, frugally. மட்டாய்ச்செலவிடு. Be frugal. மட்டாயெடு. Take what will answer the purpose. பேதிமட்டாய்நடக்கிறது. Cholera-cases are few. மட்டானவன், appel. n. A man of ordinary appearance, rank or abilities; one of middle size. 2. A man rather below the common standard, in rank, &c., தாழ்ந்தவன். மட்டிட்டிருக்க, inf. To be limited. மட்டில்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Immensity. 2. Extravagance. 3. Illimitability. மட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. To form a judgment from appearances, to know by observation, நிதானிக்க. 2. To recognize, to identify, அறிந்துகொள்ள. 3. To infer, மதி க்க. 4. To comprehend, தெரிய. 5. To make an estimate, மதிப்புச்செய்ய. 6. To stint, to limit. 7. To hinder, தடுக்க. மட்டுக்கு. To the extent required, to a certain extent, to a limited extent, sparingly. மட்டுக்குறித்தல், v. noun. Fixing a limit, determining an extent. மட்டுக்குமட்டு, s. In proportion to the time, number, want, &c., சரிக்குச்சரி. 2. A due or equal proportion. 3. A proportion of a small quantity, கொஞ்சத்திற் கொஞ்சம். மட்டுக்குமிஞ்ச--மட்டுமிஞ்ச--மட்டுக டக்க, inf. To exceed bounds. 2. To become incurable--as a disease; irrecoverable--as a debt, &c. 3. To be excessive. மட்டுக்கும், adv. So much, so far. மட்டுக்கோல், s. A measuring rod, as மட்டக்கோல். (R.) மட்டுத்தப்ப, inf. To miss an aim, take the wrong direction, இலக்குத்தவற. 2. To exceed propriety, to behave or speak disrespectfully or impolitely, மரியாதைத வற. 3. To live extravagantly, அளவுகட க்க. 4. To act conceitedly; to assume airs, மிதமிஞ்ச. மட்டுத்தப்பானபேச்சு. Disrespectful language. 2. Self-conceited talk. மட்டுத்தப்பானநடை. Disrespectful behavior. 2. Extravagance in living; vanity, self-conceit. மட்டுத்தப்பானபழக்கம். Disreputable, low practices. மட்டுத்தப்பிச்செலவழிக்கிறது. Being profuse in expenditure. மட்டுத்திட்டம், s. Guess, estimate, conjecture, கணிப்பு. 2. Character, circumstances, one's worth, merit, யோக்கி யம். 3. Extent, amount, limit, அளவு. 4. Integrity, principle. மட்டுத்திட்டப்படுத்த--மட்டுத்திட்டம் பண்ண--மட்டுத்திட்டம்பார்க்க, inf. To limit, restrain. 2. To weigh one's character, குணத்தைநிறுக்க. 3. To bring to a settlement, to balance affairs, முடிவுகட்ட. மட்டுப்பட, inf. To be measured, guaged. 2. To be limited, circumscribed, restrained, curbed, confined. 3. To be comprehended, understood. 4. To decrease, to grow less. மட்டுப்படுத்த--மட்டுப்பண்ண, inf. To limit, circumscribe, restrain, check, confine, govern. 2. To make an estimate, ascertain a number, quantity or amount, மதிக்க. மட்டுப்பிடிக்க, inf. To recognize, to identify, அறிய. 2. To comprehend, ascertain, குறிக்க. 3. To decide, determine, தீர்மானிக்க. மட்டுமதிப்பு--மட்டுமரியாதை--மட்டு மருங்கு, s. Due regard for another's character or rank. 2. Politeness, good manners. 3.
