The poetic தளை are of seven kinds embracing four classes. I. ஆசிரி யத்தளை. connexion of ஆசிரியம் verse of two species. 1. நேரொன்றாசிரீயத்தளை, combination of simple syllables in the ஆசிரியம் connexion, or of one simple ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. 2. நிரையொன்றாசிரியத்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or the connexion of one compound ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. II. வெண்டளை, connexion of வெண் பா verse, also of two species. 1. வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை, combination of genuine வெண்சீர் foot, or of one வெண்சீர் foot with another foot, biginning with a simple syllable 2. இயற்சீர்வெண்டளை, combination of simple, or ஆசிரியம் feet, or connexion of an ஆசிரியம் foot ending with a compound syllable with another foot beginning with a simple syllable, or vice versa. III. கலித்தளை, connexion of the கலிப்பா verse, being single, viz.; that of வெண்சீர் foot ending with a syllable with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. IV. வஞ்சித்தளை, connexion of வஞ்சி verse of two species. 1. ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. 2. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of a compound with a simple syllable, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another beginning with a simple syllable. For syllables and feet and their different species, see அசை and சீர். வளைபட்டகைமாதொடு மக்களெனுந் தளைபட்டழியத் தகுமோதகுமோ. To be bound, confined, restrained, கட்டுப்பட. தளைப்பூட்ட--தளைபோட, inf. To fetter, to shackle. தளைப்பொருத்தம், s. Harmonious combination of the தளை, in verse, தளையினிணக்கம். தளையவிழ, inf. To blossom as a flower, பூமலர. 2. To be unbound, to be unrestrained, கட்டவிழ. தளைவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To invest one with the office of உடையார். தளைவார், s. [prov.] [com. பொதுக் கட்ட.] To sequester property. நடுக்கட்டு, s. A girdle. See under கட்டு. நடுக்கண்டம், s. The central portion of a continent. 2. The middle piece. நடுக்காரர், s. [prov.] Arbitrators, judges, umpires. நடுக்கிளி, s. The head player in a square. See under கிளி. நடுக்குடி, s. A house-hold in the midst of others, as being safer than if alone. 2. A family of midding circumstances, rank, &c. 3. [prov.] The head-family of a tribe or class. நடுக்கேட்க, inf. To hear a case in law. 2. To refer a case for decision. நடுக்கொண்டவீடு, s. [prov.] The middle house. (c.) நடுக்கொள்ளைக்காரன், s. One who plunders without regard to either party. நடுச்சாமம், s. Midnight, the middle watch from 12 o'clock till 3. நடுச்சுவர், s. Impartiality, evenhanded justice. 3. Law-suit, pleadings, arguments stated. நடுநிலை, s. An intermediate state, degree, &c. 2. Strict justice, equity. 3. Arbitration, mediation. 4. One of the positions in the mystic worship of the Saiva system. நடுநிலைஞாயம், s. The mysticism of the நடுநிலை worship. நடுநிலைமந்திரம், s. An incantation in the Saiva worship, the letters of which are mystic symbols of the forms of deity, or of the idol worshipped. The words are ஆம், ஊம், ஓம், சிவாயநம, in which ஆம், is அடி, basis; ஊம், is நடு, middle; ஓம், is முடி, top; சி, is சிவம், formless deity; வா, is சத்தி, the female principle, obscuration. நடுநிலைமை, s. Mediocrity, middle circumstances in life. நடுநிற்றல், v. noun. Becoming bail or security for one. (not the law term.) 2. Being upright, impartial. நடுநீதி, s. Judging, as an umpire, deciding, discerning, perceiving, comprehending, ascertaining, discussing a controversy. நடுவறுத்தான், appel. n. The name of a plant, மூக்குரட்டைக்கொடி, Boerhavia diffusa, L. நடுவழி--நடுப்பாதை, s. Mid-way. நடுவன், s. Yama, the god of death, awarder of rewards and punishments, இயமன். (p.) 2. The middle finger. நடுவிலவன், s. [prov. நடுவிலான்.] A middle brother. நடுவிலே. In the midst, amidst. நடுவின்மை, s. Partiality, injustice, நீதிஇல்லாமை. (p.) நடுவீடு, s. The middle or interior of the house where the idol is kept. 2. An obscene expression, used in the south. நடுவீடுபெருவழியாயிற்று. The very interior of the house is become a public road; i. e., the family is ruined. நடுவீட்டுக்குநாயகமாய்வந்தான். He has come to lord it over us. நடுவீதி, s. The midst of the street. நடுவெலும்பு, s.
