catā (p. 159) adj. Continual, perpetual, எப்பொ ழுதுமுள்ள. W. p. 886. SAD'A.. சதாகாலமும். Eternally, everlastingly, for ever and ever. சதாஸ்து. Always to thus, Amen, i. e. live long, &c., a term of salutation; [ex அஸ்து, be thus.] (p.) சதாகதி, s. Air, wind--as the constant mover, காற்று. (p.) 2. Perpetual motion, equable motion, மாறாதசலனம். சதாசிவம், s. Eternal felicity, முடிவி லாநன்மை. 2. Deity or Siva in the exercise of benevolence towards sentient beings, the highest of பஞ்சகர்த்தாக்கள்; also the state of Siva, when designing the salvation of souls before he assumed visible forms for that purpose, சதாசிவத்துவம். See பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், under கிருத்தியம். Sa. S'adasiva. சதாசிவன், s. Sadasiva; the first and the highest of the five forms assumed by Siva; [ex சிவம், auspicious.] சதானந்தம், s. சன்னிதி
caṉṉiti (p. 173) s. Presence, nearness, proximity, சமீபம். 2. (c.) The presence of the deity, guru or some great person, திருமுகம். W. p. 891. SANNIDHI. 3. A temple, கோயில். 4. (p.) The holy, உயர்ந்தோன். சன்னிதிப்பட, inf. To attain to the presence of one. பண்டாரசன்னிதி, s. A college, or monastery of Pandarams, of which there are several in different towns in the Tamil district. 2. The chief of the பண் டாரச்சன்னிதி--Note. Into this fraternity, any person of good caste willing to obey the rules of the order, is received and is supported in it, the establishments being richly endowed. One rule of the order is perpetual celibacy. They wear beads; cloths reddened by dipping in red ochre; a kind of pinch-beck-ear ornament, instead of a gold one; entangled locks or unshorn hair. The chief of the order is guru to the rest, and receives homage from them. The members are each called தம்பிரான், Tambiran.
சன்னியாசம்
caṉṉiyācam (p. 174) s. Asceticism, abandonment of all worldly possessions and attachments, being the highest and last of the four brahmanical states. See ஆச் சிரமம். 2. Relinquishment, renunciation, துறவு; [ex சம், entirely, et நியாசம், casting away.] W. p. 891. SANNYASA. சன்னியாசந்தரிக்க, inf. To assume the state and garb of the சன்னியாசி. சன்னியாசமார்க்கம், s. The order of சன்னியாசி. 2. The perpetual bachelorhood of a person of good morals. சன்னியாசமுத்திரை, s. The distinctive marks of the சன்னியாசி, viz.: the staff, the waterpot, an unshaven beard, dishevelied locks, ochred clothes, &c. *சா, A compound letter composed of ச் and ஆ. 2. s. [ex Sa. Jya, to decay.] Death, mortality, மரணம். 3. Devil, பேய். 4. [in astron.] The chord of an arc; but commonly used for அர்த்தச்சா--the sine of an arc. 5. An equation of the centre--as மந்தச்சா. 6. The annual parallax, of a planet. See கற்கிச்சா and மகரச்சா. W. p. 355. JYA. சாக்காடு, s. Mortality, death, மரணம்; [ex காடு, a verbal affix.] சாக்காட்ட--சாக்காக்க, inf. [prov.] To wait on the dying, affording aid, performing appropriate ceremonies, &c. சாக்குருவி--சாகுருவி, s. A night-bird, sometimes a screech owl, whose hoot is supposed to portend death. சாக்குறி, s. Omens or presages of death. சாச்சடங்கு, s. Funeral ceremonies performed within the first week, especially, cooking and taking congy on the third day, and rice on the eighth.--Note. In some places food is sent by the relatives for three days. சாசங்காரம், s. The completing of an equation. சாபலம், s. [in astron.] Equation to the centre for any given time. சாபறை--சாப்பறை, s. A kind of drum for funerals. சாபிள்ளை, s. A still-born child. (c.) சாமுகுர்த்தம், s. [in astrol.] The முகு ர்த்தம் time, when several of the planets are in unfavorable situations. சாமூஞ்சி, s. A dismal, ghastly countenance, a death-like look. சாமூஞ்சிபட, inf. To be ghastly, as the face of a sick person. சாமேளம், s. A funeral-drum; the mode of beating a drum for a funeral. சாவறுதி, s. The point of death, the last extremity. 2. [prov.] Slightness, want of force and vigour; [ex அறுதி.] சன்னியாசம்பண்ண, inf. To renounce social or secular life for the wandering life of the ascetic. 2. To abandon earthly associations, worldliness, secularity, &c. சமுசாரசன்னியாசம், s. Celibacy. See under சமுசாரம். 3) *

தண்டு
tṇṭu (p. 223) கிறேன், தண்டினேன், வேன், தண்ட, v. a. To collect, to exact, to gather; to recover debts, rents, taxes, dues, contributions in money, grain, jewels, &c., வரிமுத லியதண்ட. (c.) 2. v. n. To part with to leave, to remove, to separate from, பிரிய. (p.) 3. (a change of தட்டு, soft for the hard.) To touch, commonly in the negative--as நாக்கிலேதண்டாமல், பட. (c.) நாக்கிலேதண்டாமல்மருந்தைச்சாப்பிட்டான். He swallowed the medicine without its touching his tongue. தண்டாச்சிறப்பினள், s. An epithet of சரசுவதி, the consort of Brahma; (lit.) she who possesses perpetual excellency. (p.) தண்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To collect and deliver. கடன்தண்ட, inf. To recover debts. கடன்தண்டவந்தபிள்ளை. One that dies young; (lit.) the child that came to recover a debt (of a former birth). பணந்தண்ட, inf. To collect money. 3)
நரகம்
narakam (p. 270) s. Hell, the infernal regions, including 28 millions of places of torture of various description, பாதலம். (c.) 2. Abyss of the seven nether worlds, நிரயம். W. p. 455. NARAKA.--The seven chief hells, are: 1. அள்ளல், a hell of mud. 2. இரௌரவம், a horrible hell. 3. கும்பிபாகம், a hell where person are baked as pots. 4. கூடசாலம். 5. செந்துஸ்தானம், a hell of torture by worms. 6. பூதி. 7. மாபூதி. நரகத்திலேவிழுவான். He will fall into hell. நரகப்பிராப்தியானான். He is suffering the pains of hell. நரககதி, s. One of the four races of begins, that of the nether worlds. நரகக்குழி, s. The pit of hell. (c.) நரகச்சுற்று, s. As நரகவட்டம். நரகபாதாளம், s Hell as an abyss, ஆழ்நரகம். நரகப்பிறப்பு, s As நரககதி. (c.). நரகர், s. (plu.) Inhabitants of the nether world. நரகவட்டம், s The ranges of the seven different hells, each composed of a distinct element, 1. தமப்பிரபை, region of a pervading and an intense cold. 3. தூமப்பிரபை, region of thick smoke. 4. வாலுகப்பிரபை, region of sand, or sandbaths. 5. சாகரப்பிரபை, region of perpetual wakefulness. 6. இரத்தப்பிரபை, region of blood. 7. அழற்பிரபை, region of fire. நரகவாசிகள், appel. n. The inhabitants of hell. நரகவாய், s. The mouth of hell, நிரய வாய். 2. [for நரகல்வாய்.] The anus, குதம். நரகவேதனை, s. The pains of hell. (c.) நரகன், s. An inhabitant of hell, நர கத்திலுள்ளோன். Constant vexation. நித்தியஅவியலும்புழுகலும். Constant feasting. (Jaffna.) நித்தியக்கட்டளை, s. Daily allotted work; daily expenses, daily allowance. நித்தியகம்புலு, s. [prov.] Constant quarrelling, ஒழியாச்சண்டை. நித்தியகருமம், s. Daily rites, prescribed by the Shastras, as 1. tending the sacrificial fire, by the brahman, நித்தி யவிதி; 2. the daily religious duties of the respective castes, நித்தியபூசை. நித்தியகருமானுஷ்டானம், s. Performance of daily rites. நித்தியகலியாணம், s. Everlasting joy, perpetual enjoyment. நித்தியகலியாணன், s. An exalted ascetic in the enjoyment of divine delight, யோகி. 2. See கலியாணம். நித்தியகலியாணி, s. Parvati as கலியா ணி. நித்தியகாலம், s. Eternal ages. நித்தியகொட்டுமுழக்கு, v. noun. Perpetual music. நித்தியசீவன், s. [in Christ. usage.] Eternal life, மோட்சம். நித்தியசேவகம், s. Constant service, permanent employment. நித்தியதானம், s. Daily alms, gifts, presents--as made by kings or great men. நித்தியத்துவம், s. Eternal existence. நித்தியநைமித்திகம், s. Ceremonies of regular though occasional recurrence, as the Sraddhas, at fixed lunar periods, பூனையும்விழாவும். நித்தியநைமித்தியகாமியகன்மங்கள், s. The three classes of rites, stated, occasional and voluntary. நித்தியபூசை, s. Daily puja at the temple. நித்தியப்படி, adv. Daily, always, perpetually, நாடோறும். 2. s. As நித்தியக்கட்டளை. நித்தியப்படிவந்தென்னைஅலட்டுகிறான். He is constantly troubling me. நித்தியப்பிரளயம், s. Constant destruction; i. e. by death. நித்தியப்பிழைப்பு, v. noun. Permanent support. நித்தியமழை, s. Daily rain, என்றும் பெய்மழை. நித்தியமுத்தன்--நித்தியன்்முக்தன், s. The deity as ever blessed, கடவுள். 2. The exalted devotee as happy in his god, ஞானி. நித்தியமுத்தி--நித்தியமோட்சம், s. Eternal bliss. நித்தியமும்--நித்தமும், adv. Daily, always. நித்தியயோகம், s. Perpetual fortune, குறையாச்சம்பத்து. நித்தியயவ்வனம்--நித்தியயௌவனம், s. Eternal youth, மாறாஇளமை. நித்தியவிக்கேபம்--நித்தியவிட்சேபம், s. Parallax of the zenith distance of the equator at the place of observation. See விக்கேபம். நித்தியவிதி, s. A sacrificial fire-place, ஓமகுண்டம். (சது.) See நித்தம். நித்தியவிநோதம், s. One of the umbrellas of Argha. நித்தியன், s. The deity, the elernal, கடவுள். நித்தியன்முக்தன், s. See நித்தியமுத்தன். நித்தியாநித்தியம், s. That which is eternal and temporal, அழியாமையுமழியும். நித்தியாநித்தியவஸ்துவிவேகம், s. The knowledge of eternal and temporal things. See சாதனசதுட்டயம். நித்தியானந்தம், s. Eternal joy. நித்தியானந்தன், s. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். நித்தியானுஷ்டானம், s. Personal religious duties. 26) *

viratam (p. 397) s. A vow, an oath, ஆணை. 2. Penance, தவம். 3. Fasting or other voluntary religious observance--one of the seven good deeds. See புண்ணியம். [Sa. Vrata.] விரதங்காக்க, inf. To keep a vow--as of perpetual celibacy, continency, &c. விரதத்துவம், s. A state of self-inflicted austerity. விரதநியமம், s. Act of initiating, தீட் சித்தல். விரதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To fast. விரதம்விட, inf. To break a fast. விரதர், s. Ascetics, mendicants, தவத் தோர். (உபநி.) விரதி, s. One who has renounced the world, துறவி. (சது.) 11) *
