akngkārm (p. 1) s. Pride, self-consequence, கருவம். 2. One of the four intellectual powers, the energy which excites to action, அந்தக்கரணங்களிலொன்று. (See இந்தி ரியம்.) 3. Self-consciousness, individuality, regarding one's self as performing actions instead of the deity as operating within, நானெனுஞ்செருக்கு. 4. (p.) An operating cause of transmigration, பிறவிக்குமூலம்; ex அகம் myself, et காரம் that which acts. அகங்காரகிரந்தி--அகங்காரக்கிரந்தி, s. The bond of the three evil principles, மும்மலம், which bind the soul from eternity, and subject it to births. (p.) அகங்காரத்திரயம், s. aklu (p. 2) --அகல், கிறேன், அகன்றேன், வேன், அகல, v. n. To leave, yield to, retire from, நீங்க. 2. To prosper, increase, அதிகரிக்க. 3. To remove from, become distant, பிரிய. 4. To spread, widen, extend, பரவ. 5. To escape, get away, விலக; ex அகல், width. அகலநிற்றல். Standing afar off. அகலர், s. Low persons, out-casts, persons excluded from society, சண் டாளர். (p.) அகலல்--அகறல், v. noun. The state of being removed or separated. 2. A going or wearing off. அகலுகை--அகல்கை, v. noun. Going out of the way, stepping aside, retirement. அகல்வு, s. Wideness, extension, expanse. அகல்வோர், s. Out-casts who must keep at a distance. அகன்றவறிவு, s. Extensive knowledge. கள்ளமகன்றின் சொல்லைக்காத்தவர், they who observe a courteous address without guile. அழுக்கற்றகன்றாருமில்லை, the envious will not prosper, (குறள்.) 43)

akkiyāṉam (p. 4) s. [priv. அ et கியா னம் for ஞானம்.] Ignorance, lack of wisdom, destitution of spiritual knowledge. See அஞ்ஞானம். அக்கியானி, s. An ignorant person, one destitute of the knowledge of God; as அஞ்ஞானி. 8) *

Civilities, honors, respect as paid to the first in order of a company. அக்கிரசர்மம், s. Foreskin, நுனித் தோல்; ex. சர்மம், skin. அக்கிரசன்மன், s. A priest. 2. Elder brother. 3. Brahma. அக்கிரபூசனை--அக்கிரபூசை, s. The respect paid to the principal person at a feast, or to the principal deity of a temple. அக்கிரமாமிசம், s. The heart. அக்கிரன்--அக்கிரியன், s. añcaṉam (p. 7) s. Blackness, darkness, black coloring, கறுப்பு. 2. A collyrium or black paint for the eyelids, கண் ணுக்கிடுமை. 3. A black coloring or magic ointment put on the hand, &c. to assist in discovering lost, stolen, or concealed property; a species of magic, சேமப்பொருள் முதலியகாட்டுமை. 4. Medicine for the eye when a person is bitten by a venomous snake, and also for one who has fits, கலிக்கம். 6. A black stone, marble, சலவைக்கல். (p.) அஞ்சனக்கலிக்கம், s. A magic ointment rubbed on the eyes or palms of the hand of one who wishes to discover any thing lost. அஞ்சனக்கல், s. Sulphuret of antimony, a combustible used in fireworks, giving a blue flame. See நிமிளை. (M. Dic.) அஞ்சனக்காரன், s. A soothsayer, conjurer, sorcerer. அஞ்சனக்கோல், s. A paint brush or pencil to blacken the eyelids. அஞ்சனத்திரயம், s. Three species of magical ointments, viz., பூதாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering whether a person is possessed or not; சோராஞ் சனம், that which assists in discovering stolen property; and பாதாளாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering treasure buried under ground. அஞ்சனபாஷாணம், s. One of the thirty-two kinds of native arsenic. அஞ்சனமெழுத, inf. To paint the eyes. அஞ்சனவண்ணன், s. Vishnu, the blue colored, திருமால். அஞ்சனாவதி, s. aññaṉ (p. 7) s. [priv. அ.] An ignorant person, அறிவிலான். 49) *

aññāṉam (p. 7) s. [priv. அ.] Ignorance, spiritual ignorance, worldly illusion, belief in external appearances, destitution of the knowledge of the true God. This is the state of the soul from the beginning, and its condition till its மலம் is removed. When the fruits of its former actions are worked out, in sufferings and enjoyments, the soul begins to be enlightened by the grace of the Deity, its அஞ்ஞா னம் then ceases, and ஞானம் commences, increases and ripens for its union with the Deity.
