A symbolic verb used as a noun with meanings similar to those of உரிமை, being peculiar to a person, or thing--as duty, obligation, property, quality, &c., உரியது. 2. s. Relative duty and care as of a child to his parents, the teacher to his pupils, the Guru to his disciples, the husband to his wife, and vice versa, கடமை. 3. Affection, பட்சம் உரித்தாக்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To appropriate to one's self, procure a right in, to make one's own, உரிமையாகச்செய்ய. 2. To secure the friendship of one, நட்பாக்கிக்கொள்ள. உரித்தாளி--உரித்தானவன், s. Want of right or privilege. உரிமையெடுக்க, inf. To take possession, to enjoy or claim one's share of an inheritance, produce, &c. உரிமைவழி, s. Consanguinity, lineage, ancestral connection, சம்பந்தமுறை. 2. Inheritance or right of possession from ancestors, தொன்றுதொட்டுவருஞ்சுதந்தி ரம். உரிமைவிட, inf. To give freedom to, to manumit a slave. சொல்லுரிமை, s. A fine emphatic expression. உரியது, s. That which is proper to, peculiar to, tending to, liable to, exposed to, deserved, deserving, worthy of, appropriate to, obnoxious to, உரித்தா னது. இததற்குரியசொல். This is the appropriate word for it. உரியதண்டனை, s. Condign punishment, deserved chastisement. உரியபொருள், s. The primary meaning of a passage, உரியவர்த்தம். 2. koḷ (p. 147) --கொள்ளு, கிறேன், கொண் டேன், வேன், கொள்ள, v a. To take, receive with the hand, வாங்கிக்கொள்ள. 2. To contain, hold, comprehend, have, comprise, embrace, அடக்கிக்கொள்ள. 3. To buy, purchase, விலைக்குக்கொள்ள. 4. To accept, approve of, admit, அங்கீகரிக்க. 5. To take a wife, to marry, பெண்கொள்ள. 6. To take --as food, medicine, sleep, rest, &c., உணவு முதலியகொள்ள. 7. To conceive--as in the womb, in the mind or in the heart. 8. To get, to acquire, பெற்றுக்கொள்ள. 9. v. n. To be contained in, அடங்க. As an auxiliary to other verbs, கொள் denotes, continuation, certainly, &c., of the action, and that the fruit of it reverts to the agent-as படித்துக்கொள்ளுகிறான். He continues to study, குதிரையைவாங்கிக்கொண்டேன். I bought a horse for myself. The verb is generally found in composition with other words --as வாங்கிக்கொள்ள, பெண்கொள்ள, உட்கொள்ள, &c., and very rarely in the personal finite forms in common usage, except in the third meaning. கொள்வாருமில்லைகொடுப்பாருமில்லை.... There are none who receive, none who give. கொண்டிருந்துகுலம்பேசுகிறதா? Would it be proper to twit a family after you have taken a wife from it? கொண்டான், s. A husband, புருஷன். 2. A play as கொண்டல். See under கொண் டு, for other words. கொண்டுபோக, inf. To carry, to convey; to take away. கொள்க, [obtative.] May take, accept, or may uderstand. உமதுசித்தத்தின்படிகொள்க. You may take it as you please. கொள்கலம், s. A vessel, a salver, a dish; a receptacle for sandal-paste, or other ointments, or for ornaments, &c., சாந்துமுதலியபெய்கலம். 2. A cup of palm leaf, or bamboo to eat from, பிழர. (சது.) A beggar's dish, இரப்போர்கலம். கொள்கை, v. noun. The act of taking, getting, &c. See, கொள், v. 2. Quality, nature, habit, state, குணம். 3. Liking, fondness, regard, attachment, intimacy, சினேகம். 4. Opinions, tenets, belief, கோ ட்பாடு. 5. Knowledge, instruction, அறிவு. அவருக்குமிவருக்குமிகுந்தகொள்கை. [prov.] They two are very intimate. கிழவியிவனோடேமிகுந்தகொள்கையாயிருக்கிறாள். The old woman is very fond of him. கொள்கொம்பு, s. A prop supporting vines. (R.) கொள்வனை--கொள்வனவு--கொள்வினை, v. noun. Buying, borrowing; taking receiving வியாபாரக்கொள்ளுகை. 2. Marrying a wife, பெண்கொள்ளுகை. கொள்வனைகொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Borrowing and lending. 2. Giving and receiving in marriage. 3. [vul. loc.] Taking, receiving; buying, borrowing, கொள்ளுகை. கொள்விலை--கொள்கிரயம், s. The first or prime cost, the sum paid for a thing exclusive of profit, &c., கொண்டவிலை. 2. [prov.] Purchase, purchased land or property, விலைக்குக்கொண்டது. 3. One of the three species of real property. See சீதனம் and பிதிரார்ச்சிதம். கொள்விலைக்காணி, s. [prov.] Land attained by purchase, as distinguished from lands by dowry and inheritance. கொள்விலைக்காரன், s. The purchaser of land, &c. கொள்வோன், s. One who buys, or one who accepts any thing. 2. (நன்.) a pupil, student, learner, கற்போன். கொள்ள, [adverbially.] While, when-as நான்வரக்கொள்ள, while I was coming. 2. Since, therefore, because, as இருக்கக்கொ ள்ள, since it is so. ஆகக்கொள்ள, in the phrase நாளையவன்வருவானாகக்கொள்ள, he will come tomorrow, therefore, [tarry.] 3. (Rott.) as கொள்க in the phrase கொள் ளாதநோய்கொள்ள, may you be seized with an insupportable disease--a malediction. 4. [prov.] More, further on, in or under --as கொஞ்சங்கொள்ளவார், pour out a little more; also in கொள்ளக்கொடு, insert a lever, or land, further in, further under, &c., or let a pair of scissors or pincers take a good hold; and in கொள்ளப்பிடி, take hold further in measuring cloth. கொளல்வினா, s. [in gram.] One of the six kinds of interrogation, implying a desire to obtain the thing mentioned --as அரிசியுளதோ, have you got any rice? wishing to buy some. கொள்ளல்--கொளல், v. noun. Taking, receiving, obtaining, buying, &c. கொள்ளற்பாடு, [prov.] Estimation, worth, honor, மேன்மை. கொள்ளாதசெய்கை, s. A fragrantly wicked, unbearable act. கொள்ளாதசிறை, s. One assiduous as a slave--spoken of an affectionate, faithful wife, or a dependent. கொள்ளாதபுகழ், s. Unbounded praise. கொள்ளாமை, v. noun. (neg.) Excessiveness transcedency, pre-eminence in good or evil. 2. Disagreement, discordance, enmity, பகை. வாய்கொள்ளாப்பேச்சு. Language not proper to be used. கொள்ளார், s. Haters, enemies, பகை வர். (சது.) இரட்டித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. See இரட் டிக்க. அர்த்தங்கொள்ள, ஆசைகொள்ள, தலைகொள்ள, துயர்கொள்ள, நாட்கொள்ள, நிலைகொள்ள, நீர்கொள் ள, பைத்தியங்கொள்ள, மேற்கொள்ள, வேர்கொள்ள, are some of the compounds. 15)

cā (p. 174) கிறேன், செத்தேன், வேன், சாக, v. n. To die, இறக்க. 2. To perish or be injured --as grain--, &c., கெட. 3. To dry up--as a sore, &c., காய்ந்துபோக. (Sa. The art of painting is but the habit or practice of the hand, and that of language is but the practice of the tongue. சித்திரம்பேசேல். Make no fanciful exaggerations. (Avv.) சித்திரகரணம், s. One of the five கரணம். See கரணம். சித்திரகவி, s. A curiously wrought poem. See திரிபங்கி. There are different kinds as-இரதபந்தம். A poem in the figure of a car. கோமூத்திரி. One written in the form of inter-linked curves. சதுரங்கபந்தம். One in the form of squares. சுழிகுளம். Verses written in a winding manner. நாகபந்தம். A poem in the form of intertwined snakes, &c. சித்திரக்காரன், s. A carver, painter. சித்திரகூடம், s. An ornamented or painted room, or hall with pictures, --as சித்திரசாலை.--Note. This term is applied to the temple at Chillumbram, and a mountain in Bundelcund where Rama abode in his exile. சித்திரக்குள்ளன், s. A cunning or shrewd dwarfish person. (c.) சித்திரங்கொத்த--சித்திரம்வெட்ட, inf. To carve, sculpture, grave, &c., on a plain surface. சித்திரசொரூபம், s. An image, an idol, a carved statue, a picture. சித்திரதீபம், s. A painted candle or taper. சித்திரதீபம்போலிருந்து தியானிக்கிறான். He sits meditating, motionless as a painted taper. சித்திரத்தையல், s. Fancy needle work. 2. As சித்திரப்பாவை. சித்திரத்தேர், s. An ornamented car. சித்திரந்தீர--சித்திரந்தீட்ட, inf. To carve or engrave any figures on wood or stone. சித்திரப்படம், s. A picture. 2. (p.) Variegated, painted or printed cloth, எழுத் துப்புடவை. சித்திரப்படாம், s. Veriegated, painted cloth. 2. A book of pictures, folds of paintings for amusement. (p.) சித்திரப்பதிமை--சித்திரப்பதுமை, s. A doll, statue, a puppet. சித்திரப்பா, s. As சித்திரகவி. சித்திரப்பாவை, s. A portrait or picture of a person or persons, real or imaginary, a carved figure. (நன்.) சித்திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A picture, a portrait. சித்திரப்பூம்பட்டாடை, s. Flowered silk cloth. (c.) சித்திரப்பேச்சு, s. Artful speech, cunning, jesting shrewdness. சித்திரமண்டபம்--சித்திரச்சாலை, s. A painted chamber or hall. சித்திரமெழுத, inf. To draw a picture, to paint, to sketch. (c.) சித்திரவெழுத்து, s. Elegant, nice, beautiful writing; caligraphy. 2. Variegated or fancy painting. 3. An anagram, as ஞிமிறு for மிஞிறு. சித்திரரேகை, s. Ornamental lines drawn on the body of a person. 2. One of the lines in the hand. 3. The wife of Kuvéra, குபேரன்மனைவி. சித்திரர்--சித்திரக்காரர், s. Fancy painters, portrait painters, limners, embroiderers. 2. Artizans, carvers, sculptors, engravers, சிற்பர். 3. Carpenters, தச்சர். சித்திரவதை--சித்திராக்கினை, s. Cutting and slashing in battle, prolonged butchery, cutting off member after member. 2. Ingenious and varied torture in inflicting death. (c.) சித்திரவித்தாரன், s. One artful, clever, or dexterous; one fluent in speech. (p.) சித்திரவித்தை, s. The art of fancypainting, sculpture, carving, engraving, &c. சித்திரவேலைக்காரர், s. Any fancyworkers, imitators of nature--as flower makers, artizans, sculptors, engravers. 2. Fancy-painters. (c.) சித்திரவேளாகொல்லி, s. A mode of music, a fine melody, கொல்லித்திறத்தினொ ன்று. The principal virtue is in the chunam; (to make the mouth red in chewing betel.) சூட்சத்தில்முடித்துக்கொண்டுவாரும். Have the business done with little cost. சூட்சக்காரன், s. A skilful, ingenious person. 2. A cunning, artful person. சூட்சபுத்தி, s. Great ingenuity, superior invention, genius. சூட்சமாகப்பண்ண, inf. To act, skilfully, display ingenuity, perform extraordinary deeds, to subtilize. 2. To practise stratagems, உபாயம்பண்ண. சூட்சமானவேலை, s. Nice, ingenious, skilful workmanship. சூட்சம்பண்ண, inf. To manage economically. நீசெவலைச்சூட்சம்பண்ணவேண்டும். You must curtail your expenses. சூட்சவழி, s. A short, skilful method in art or science. 2. A good, moral system, நன்னெறி. 3. A short road, சுருக் கவழி. See சுளுவானவழி. சூட்சக்கயிறு, s. The concealed strings of a puppet. சூட்சத்தைத்தட்ட--சூட்சந்தட்ட, inf. To give a tap to the working machine. சூட்சமறிய, inf. To get a clue to a subject, &c. சூட்சமானசெலவு, s. Economical expense. (c.) சூட்சம்போட, inf. To make a contrivance for the equilibrium of a kite in the air. சூட்சம்வைக்க, inf.
