அழுகு
aẕuku (p. 32) கிறது, அழுகினது, ம், அழுக, v. n. To rot, putrify, decay, corrupt, பத னழிய. 2. To be raw as sores, ulcers, &c. புண்ணழுக. அழுகல், s. Rotten fruit, &c., anything rotten or putrified, அழுகினது. அழுகிக்கெட்டுப்போதல், v. noun. Decaying gradually. அழுகுசப்பாணி, s. A sore on the hands or feet--supposed to be from the lick of a poisonous reptile--causing the flesh to putrify and drop off by little and little, ஓர்விடநோய். 2. The poisonous reptile causing the sore, அழுகு சர்ப்பம். அழுகுசர்ப்பம், s. The name of a reptile whose lick is supposed to be poisonous, ஓர்விஷசெந்து. அழுகுணி, s. A kind of eruption, chiefly about the ears, ஓர்கரப்பன். 13)

ukku (p. 59) கிறது, உக்கினது, உக்கும், உக்க, v. n. To rot, decay, moulder, perish, உக் கிப்போக. 2. To dread, fear, பயப்பட. உக்கதலமணியுரகரரசற்கென்றால். If the king of serpents which inhabits the abyss be shocked-துக்கத்தினாலுக்கிப்போனான். He is wasted with grief, he is pining away. உக்கினமரம், s. A worm-eaten tree, or rotten timber. உக்கல், s. ஊசு
ūcu (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊசினேன், வேன், ஊச, v. a. To sew, join two, தைக்க. 2. v. n. [used with the அஃறிணை terminations.] To become stale, sour, rank, insipid, &c.--as food by keeping, சுவைகெட. 3. To decay, become putrid--as flesh; to corrupt, putrefy--as a corpse, ஊழ்க்க. ஆசைப்பட்டகாரியமூசிப்போயிற்று. He has not got the thing he desired. முள்ளினூசித்துன்னமூசியவாடை. A garment sewed together with thorns instead of needles. (சிந்தா.) ஊசிப்போனகறி, s. Meat past eating, spoiled. ஊசுமுடல், s. The vile body. (அறிவானந்தசித்தி.) ஊசல், v. noun. Becoming stale, rank. 2. s. That which is stale, rancid, spoiled by age, பதனழிந்தது. 37)
ஊத்தை
ūttai (p. 70) s. Filth connected with the teeth, body, &c., excrement, excretion, &c.; any ceremonial uncleanness especially from catamenia, சரீரவழுக்கு. 2. Filth in general, dirt, foulness, stain, tarnish, அழுக்கு. 3. (p.) Butcher's meat, flesh, fish, ஊன். ஊத்தைக்குவிளாங்காய்சேர்ந்தாற்போலிருக்கிறது... The union of a person with another as bad as himself is like eating wood apple with unclean teeth. ஊத்தைபோகக்குளித்தவனுமில்லைப்பசிபோகத்தின் றவனுமில்லை. None washes himself so as not to require it again, nor does any one eat so as not to hunger again. ஊத்தைகுடியன், s. A kind of goblin, ஓர்பிசாசு. ஊத்தைச்சீலை, s. Menstruous cloth, சூதகச்சீலை. 2. Dirty cloth, or clothes, அழுக்குச்சீலை. ஊத்தைதாங்க, inf. To bear dirt, &c.--as cloth without showing it. ஊத்தைதேய்க்க--ஊத்தைபுரட்ட, inf. To rub the body in bathing. ஊத்தைநாறி, s. A dirty slut, துர்க்கந்தமுடையவள். [vul.] 2. A tree, பீ நாறி. ஊத்தைபுரள, inf. To be dirtied-as clothes, &c. ஊத்தைப்பல்லன், s. A man with dirty teeth. ஊத்தைப்பாண்டம், s. An unclean vessel, அழுக்குப்பாத்திரம். 2. (Met.) The body, உடல். ஊத்தைப்பிணம், s. A putrid corpse or carcass, நாறியபிணம். 2. The vile body (as spoken of by ascetics, &c.), உடம்பு. ஊத்தைப்பிணமாய்நாறுகிறது. It stinks like a corpse. ஊத்தையெடுக்க, inf. To remove the tarnish from jewels, a stain from a silk or other cloth. 2)
ஊழல்
ūẕl (p. 70) s. That which is decayed, spoiled, bad in quality, conduct, கெட்டது. 2. That which is filthy, nasty--as excrement, putrefaction, &c., mud, mire, ஊத் தை. 3. (p.) Hell, நரகம். ஊழலத்தி, s. A medicinal tree. ஊழல்நாற்றம், s. An intolerable smell. ஊழல்நிலம், s. Barren land. 2. Stinking, muddy land. ஊழல்மனிதன், s. A man bad in disposition, conduct, &c. ஊழற்குடிவாழ்க்கை, s. Slovenly economy, dirty, disorderly management of a family.

ūẕ (p. 71) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To grow old, decay, முதிர. 2. To wither, fade--as flowers, &c., வாட. 3. To decay-as flesh, fruits; to become putrid, to be spoiled, to rot, moulder, பதனழிய. 4. (p.) To bloom, blossom, or expand--as a flower, to be fresh, fair, beautiful, மலர. 5. To think of, to reflect on, நினைக்க. ஊழ்த்தகொழுந்தாமரை. The full lotus which withered. (பிள்ளைத்.) இண்ரூழ்த்துநாறாமலரணையர்கற்றதுணரவிரித்துரையா தார். குலை
kulai (p. 127) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To become loose--as a knot, a tie, &c.; to be put out of place or form; to be dishevelled, untwisted, unravelled, கட்டவிழ. 2. To disperse--as a company, a flock, &c., to scatter, கலைய. 3. To be relaxed--as the mind from duty, austerities, &c.; to be diverted from its purpose or object, தளர. 4. To fall from chastity, to be violated, கற்பழிய. 5. To be disorganized, deranged, disordered; to suffer dissolution, சீர்குலைய. 6. To be troubled, disconcerted, confused in mind, shaken in purpose, மனந்தடுமாற. 7. To tremble, to be in trepidation, perturbation, நடுங்க. 8. To fear, or shew signs of fear, பயப்பட. 9. To shew signs of anger, சினக்குறிப்புக்காட்ட. 1. To be effaced, blotted out, cancelled, அழிந்துபோக. கொண்டைகுலைந்துபோயிற்று. The hair knot has become loosened, or untied. கட்டுக்குலைந்தது. The tie has become loosened. 2. The laws, customs or usages are abolished, or have fallen into desuetude. கூட்டங்குலைந்தது. The assembly has broken up; the family is scattered. சந்தைகுலைந்தது. The market people are dispersed. கோலமிட்டது குலைந்துபோய்விட்டது. The figures painted on the floor have been effaced. அடுக்குக்குலைய, inf. To be put into disorder--as a row or pile of things. 2. To become deranged--as one's business or circumstances. நியமங்குலைய, inf. To be diverted from a vow or some religious observance. நிலைகுலைய, inf. To fail in one's standing; to be ruined in one's circumstances. 2. To be discouraged; to lose self-command. 3. To be disconcerted, perplexed. 4. To be routed--as an army. 5. To swerve from duty. 6. To be fascinated. முனைகுலைய, inf. To be dispirited, discouraged--as a warrior; to be defeated --as an army. மானங்குலைய, inf. To be disgraced. 2. To be deflowered, to be ravished. மகிமைகுலைய, inf. To lose one's dignity, credit or honor. உருக்குலைய, inf. To be disfigured, to be worn out--as things by use or time. 2. To be emaciated. 3. To be putrefied --as a corpse. வேஷங்குலைய, inf. To be unmasked. 2. To lose one's reputation and character. மேனிகுலைய, inf. To be deformed. 2. To be disordered--as the hair, attire, &c. 3. To be in perturbation, or agitation. 4. To lose freshness, beauty, &c.; to wither--as the body. குலைகுலைய, inf. To tremble, to be in a state of trepidation, to be greatly troubled--as at sad news; to be agitated in mind and body, நடுநடுங்க. குலைவு, v. noun. Loosening, relaxing, கட்டுக்குலைவு. 2. Derangement, disorder, confusion, discomposure, dissolution, தா றுமாறு. 3. Violation, ruin, அழிவு. 4. Disperison, கலைவு. கூற்றையார்குலைவுறார். Who would not tremble at the sight of Yama! குலைவுபட, inf. To be disordered, disorganized, confused. 2. To be untwisted, untied, unfastened. குலைவுபண்ண, inf. v. a. குளகுளென
kuḷkuḷeṉ (p. 130) --குளகுளத்துப்போ க, inf. To grow soft--as jaggery; to become pulpy, rotten or putrid, நெகிழ்ந்துகெட் டுப்போக. குளகுளென்றுபோகும். It will become soft. குளகுளென்றழுகிப்போயிற்று. The fruit is grown rotten. 2)
குளுகுளுக்க
kuḷukuḷukk (p. 131) inf. v. n. [vul.] To become pale, sallow, wan and bloated--as in jaundice, &c.; to become weak through a morbid state of body, சோகைபற்ற. 2. [prov.] To become rotten, putrid--as fruits, அழுகிப்போக. அவன்முகங்குளுகுளுத்திருக்கிறது. His face is swollen. குளுகுளுப்பை, v. noun. The state of being pale and bloated in countenance; a kind of jaundice, ஓர்நோய். 13)
கெடு
keṭu (p. 137) கிறேன், கெட்டேன், வேன், கெட, v. n. To perish; to be destroyed, annihilated, அழிய. 2. To putrefy, rot, decay; to become tarnished, damaged, marred, blighted, கேடுற. 3 To be ruined in circumstances, வறுமையுற. 4. To be violated in chastity, கற்பழிய. 5. To degenerate, deteriorate; to change for the worse, morally or physically, நிலைகெட. 6. To be emaciated, reduced; to be deformed, disfigured, உருவழிய. 7. To be defeated, overcome, தோற்க. 8. To be intrinsically bad, evil or wrong, குணங்கெட. 9. To fall into ruin; to be demolished, destroyed, நாசமுற. 1. To be lost--as an article of property, &c., dropped, stolen or otherwise, காணாமற்போக. 11. To be squandered, spent, wasted, பொருள ழிய. 12. To be worn out, சிதைய. 13. To expire, to terminate--as the retribution of former deeds, வினைகெட. 14. [in gram.] To be elided, dropped, விகாரத்தாற்கெட. கெடுவாய். May you perish--a form of imprecation. கெட்டாற்குற்றார்கிளையிலுமில்லை. In poverty, friends are not found even among relations. கெட்டேனே. Ah! I am lost, ruined; I an undone. கெட்டுப்போனபார்ப்பானுக்குச் செத்துப்போனப சுவைத்தானங்கொடுத்தாற்போல. As if a dead cow be presented to a ruined brahman; said of an unprofitable pursuit by an incompetent person. கெட்டும்பட்டணஞ்சேர். Though to be ruined, go to the town. தரித்திரங்கெடும்படி. That the misery of poverty may cease. ஈற்றுயிர்மெய்கெடும். The final compound letter is dropped. கெடுகுடிசொற்கேளாது. A family given up to ruin will never listen to advice. கெட்டகுடியேகெடும். A ruined family will sink more and more. கெடுகாலம், s. A time of ruin, evil, drought, &c.; also used reference to retribution of evil deeds which is to come immediately. கெடுமதி, s. Wicked devices. 2. Folly, rashness, presumption. 3. Loss, ruin, waste. கெடுமதி கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாது. Folly is blind. கெடுவான், appel. n. He who will perish--the wretch; commonly used abusively. கெட்டதனம், s. Bad disposition; badness. 2. Indecorum, incivility. கெட்டநடத்தை, s. Immoral or vile conduct. கெட்டநிலை, s. A bad state, a woful plight. 2. A dangerous profession. 3. A dangerous way or system--as of religion. கெட்டபுத்தி, s. Perverted understanding. 2. Bad counsel, &c. கெட்டமணம், s. An offensive smell. கெட்டரூபம், s. A deformed, monstrous or horrid shape. கெட்டவியாதி, s. A bad, malignant, dangerous disease. 2. The venereal or other filthy disease. கெட்டகேடு, s. Utter ruin, uselessness, unworthiness, &c.--usually as an exclamation கெட்டுப்போனவள், s. A seduced woman, a bad woman. கெடுதலை, v. noun. Ruin, அழிவு. 2. Damage, loss, detriment, injury, நஷ்டம். 3. Disaster, calamity, இடையூறு. 4. Degeneracy, vileness, evil, இழிவு. கெடுதல், v. noun. Perishing; being ruined, spoiled, defeated, &c. 2. Damage, injury, calamity, &c. 3. [in gram.] Elision, omission. கெடுதி, s. Loss of any thing dropped, stolen, or strayed, &c., இழப்பு. 2. Loss --opposed to gain, in astrological calculations, augural divinations, &c., நஷ்டம். (See நினைத்தகாரியம்.) 3. Emergency, hazard, extremity. ஆபத்து. 4. Ruin, அழிவு. 5. Evil, disaster, கேடு. 6. (fig.) The thing lost, இழந்தபொருள். ஒருகெடுதிசொல்லவேண்டும். Please to divine for me about what I have lost. கெடு, v. noun. Ruin, destruction; decay, கேடு. 2. Expiration of a limited time, a term or limit of time, தவணை. கெடுவாகவையாதுலகம். The world will not consider it a ruin. (குற.) கெடுத்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The time set, is passed. கெடுப்படிக்கு. According to the time agreed upon. பத்துநாட்கெடுவிலே. At the expiration of the term of ten days. கெடுச்சொல்ல--கெடுவைக்க, inf. To fix a term of time, a day, &c. 2. To postpone. 8)

சமாதி
camāti (p. 163) s. The last of the eight அ ங்கயோகம், or states and modes of silent, contemplative worship, அங்கயோகத்தொன்று. 2. One of the postures of the ascetic for silent meditation, being an upright, majestic position, as a fancied image of the deity, ஞானசமாதி. 3. The abstract contemplation of the ascetic in which the soul is supposed to be independent of the body and mind. (See யோகம்.) 4. Knowledge of the sublimest description--as of the deity, one's own spiritual nature, &c., acquired by supernatural illumination, without the aid of organs physical or mental, சமாதி தரிசனை. 5. A mode of interment, by placing the corpse in a sitting posture in imitation of the சமாதி worshipper, சமாதி யில்வைக்க,--Note. The வீரசைவர் sect are all burried in this manner, (it being deemed improper to burn them lest the linga previously worn should be burnt also,) and occasionally a monument of masonry is built around the corpse, as a linga, which thus becomes an object of worship. 6. A grave, a tomb, a sepulchre, பிணம் புதைக்குங்குழி. 7. [in rhet.] A species of personifications, a metaphor in which the quality or attribute properly belongs to the objects to which the metaphor refers, ஓரலங்காரம்--as பாயிருள்பருகிப்பகல்கான்றெழுதரு பருதி, the orient sun which swallows the darkness and pours forth the day; also, கன்னிமதில், virgin walls, i. e. imperishable, and குமரிஞாழல், the young rush, i. e. ever green. 8. Death, demise, commonly spoken of a devotee, மரணம். W. p. 896. SAMAD'HI. சமாதிக்குப்போக, inf. To betake one's self for a time to his cell, as an advenced devotee to secure uninterrupted, and protracted contemplation in silent worship. சமாதிக்குழி, s. The cell or grave of the devotee for interment, in an erect, sitting posture. 2. A grave. சமாதிபண்ண, inf. To sit in any of the postures of the Yogi. (p.) சமாதிபெற, inf. To receive of the Guru the degree of the Yogi, entitling the person to the privilege of sitting in the சமாதி postures. சமாதியடைய, inf. To sit in the ச மாதி posture in silent meditation. 2. To retire to the grave, to die. 3. To die in an erect posture--as a devotee. சமாதியில்வைக்க, inf. To bury a corpse in a sitting posture--as customary with some Hindus. (c.) சமாதியிருக்க, inf. To sit in a contemplative posture--as a silent devotee. 2. To betake one's self to his sepulchre --as an exalted devotee, on the approach of death, remaining without nourishment in a sitting posture until life is extinct. சமாதியுப்பு, s. A kind of medicinal salt formed from the corpse interred in a sitting posture, taken up after some years; also the salt cast into the grave at the interment to prevent putrefaction. 10)

cḷi (p. 173) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To have a cold, சளிகொள்ள. 2. To become stale or sour--as food, liquors, &c., in incipient, acetous fermentation; to be macerated or soaked too much, to grow putrid; to rot, பதனழிய. (c.) பழஞ்சோறுசளித்துப்போயிற்று. The cold rice has grown sour. சளிக்கவார்க்க, inf. To pour profusely, as oil or water on the head. 2. (R.) To macerate, to steep. சளிக்கவூற, inf. To be macerated; to be slacked--as lime; to ferment or to be in fermentation--as meal. சளிப்பு, v. noun. Cold, catarrh. Compare சலுப்பு. 2. Saturation. 31) *
நதம்
natam (p. 269) s. River, flowing westward as the Brahmaputra, the Indus, &c., which are regarded as males, மேற்கோடுமாறு, ஆணாறு. W. p. 452. NADA. 2. Zenith distance, east or west in time, உச்சத்திருந்தபொழுதுக் குள்ளபேதம். (Sa. Nata.) நதபாகை, s. Zenith distance. நதாதிபதி, s. Sea or ocean, கடல். நதோனபத்திரம், s. Degrees, minutes, &c., obtained by subtracting சதம் from twenty-four. 12) *
நாறு
nāṟu (p. 275) கிறது, நாறினது, நாறும், நாற, v. n. To yield a smell, usally bad, மணக்க. 2. To stink, துர்க்கந்தம்வீச. (c.) 3. To be fragrant, நற்கந்தம்வீச. 4. To arise, come into being, begin to exist, தோன்ற. 5. The spring forth, to shoot up, முளைக்க. (சது.) நாறுகரந்தை, s. Sweet basil. See கரந் தை. நாறல், v. noun. Stinking; being offensive in smell, corrupt, or putrid. 2. A stinking thing, a stench, நாற்றமுடையது. நாறற்சரீரம், s. The vile body. நாறற்சோறு, s. Stale and spoiled rice. நாறற்சோற்றுக்குப்பதம்பார்ப்பானேன். Why taste spolied rice; i. e. why take pains to improve what is past recovery? நாறற்பாக்கு, s. Areca-nut soaked to improve the taste till the husk begins to purify. நாறல்மீன், s. Spoiled fish, stinking fish. நாறல்வாயன், s. A person with stinking breath. 2. (fig.) One who uses obscene language. நாறல்வாயன்தேடக் கர்ப்பூரவாயன் கைக்கொண் டான். What the stinking mouthed (the miser) has sought, the camphor mouthed (the benevolent) has obtained. 45)
