arāvu (p. 23) கிறேன், அராவினேன், வேன், அராவ, v. a. [vul.] To file, polish, அழுத்த. 2. To grate as in the friction of two pieces of metal, to rub, stroke, &c., உராஞ்ச. 3. To revolve a thing in the mind, ruminate, சிந்திக்க. 4. v. n. To use sarcasm, jeers, &c. reciprocally, to be in a state of collision, to clash, disagree, jar, மிண்ட.--Note. itaram (p. 45) s. That which is different or foreign, another, அன்னியம். 2. Vileness, lowness, ஈனம். Wils. p. 13. ITARA. 3. Ruin, evil, injury, தீங்கு. (பாரதம்.) 4. Quicksilver, பாதரசம். இதரபதார்த்தம், s. Other things, other objects, வேறுவஸ்துகள். இதரபதார்த்தானவச்சின்னவான்மா, s. The soul undetached, universal spirit undivided by union with a body, தேகப் பிணிப்பில்லாதவாத்துமா. இதரர், s. Strangers, foreigners, aliens, அன்னியர். 2. eẕutu (p. 75) கிறேன், எழுதினேன், வேன், எழுத, v. a. To write, paint, draw, mark, stain, trace (letters, &c.), inscribe, வரைய. 2. To foreordain, to predestine. This verb is soused from the notion that each one's fate is written by Brahma in the skull, தலையிலெழுத. 3. To write composition, draw up in writing, வசனாதிகளெழுத. 4. To engrave, சித்திரமெழுத. எழுதக்கைதிரும்பவில்லை. The hand is not yet trained. எட்கிடைநெற்கிடைவிட்டெழுத. To write leaving the space of a sesamum seed between the letters, and of a grain of rice between the lines--the order to be observed in writing. எழுதாக்கிளவி--எழுதாமறை, s. The vedas, lit. unwritten works--an appellation adopted with reference to their meaning being handed down by oral explanation and not written, or to the accent, pronunciation, &c., which cannot be written, வேதம். எழுதிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To grant by writing, write and deliver as a voucher. 2. To betroth a girl by written contract. 3. To write for another, draw up a document. 4. To write lessons for a learner. 5. To give a list, inventory, &c. எழுதிக்கொள்ள, inf. To write a letter, petition, &c., to a great person; to write for one's self. 2. To enrol. 3. To write and deliver vouchers reciprocally. எழுதிச்சேர்க்க, inf. To register, file a writing as a notary public. எழுதிவைக்க, inf. To recount,register, write and keep for a memorandum, &c., to write and leave behind for the use of others. எழுதினஉடன்படிக்கை--எழுதின வொப்பாசாரம், s. Written contract. எழுதுகோல், s. A writing reed, எழுதுங்கோல். 2. A painter's brush or pencil, தூரியக்கோல். எழுதுபடம், s. A picture, கிழி. மேற்பாடம்பார்த்தெழுதுதல், v. noun. Copying from a written book. பெயர்த்தெழுத, inf. To copy, to transcribe. குறிப்பெழுத, inf. To note down the time, &c. of the birth of a child. திருத்தமாயெழுத, inf. To write correctly. சரமகவியெழுத, inf. [prov.] To write a stanza, commemorative of the death of an ancestor, or other near relative, mentioning the day, hour, &c. of the moon, as a memorandum for ascertaining the time to perform the annual funeral rites. மறுமொழியெழுத--பதிலெழுத, inf. To write an answer. பருக்கவெழுத, inf. To write in large characters. கைபடியவெழுத, inf. To practise writing, train the hand in writing. 14)

ēkpōkm (p. 77) s. Mutual enjoyment of the sexes, ஒருதன்மைத்தானவின்பம். 2. Mutual love, reciprocal enjoyments in wedlock. மனைவியுங்கணவனும் அன்னியொன்னியமாயி ருக்கை. 3. The stoicism of the ascetic to whom praise and dispraise, pleasure and pain, &c. are equally indifferent, சுக துக்கங்களைச்சமமாகநினைக்கை. 4. Indifference, recklessness, libertinism, regardlessness of God and man, மனதின்படியனுபவிக்கை. 13)

oṉṟu (p. 84) s. One (the numeral), ஒன் றென்னுமெண். 2. One thing, அஃறிணையொரு மை. 3. Union, coalescence, ஐக்கம். 4. In construction, it means either, or--as ஒன் றுதீவினையைவிடு, ஒன்றுஅதின்பயனைநுகர், either abandon your evil deeds, or take the consequences. ஒன்றத்தனைகொடுத்தால்நானிரண்டத்தனைகொடுப் பேன். If he has given once as much, I will give twice. ஒன்றாறுகிறானில்லை. He so wonders that he knows not when to cease extolling. 2. His sorrow, regret, &c. is unremitted. ஒன்றிலிருந்தொன்றிலேபாய்தல். Talking loosely, incoherently, jumping from one thing to another. ஒன்றினுளொன்று. One among another, reciprocally, mutually. ஒன்றுகேள். Listen to a word of advice, hear what I have to say. ஒன்றுக்குமசையான். He is moved by nothing. ஒன்றுமொன்றுமிரண்டென்றுதெரியாதவன். A person so ignorant that he cannot tell that one and one make two. ஒன்றுவிட்டொருநாள். Every other day, alternate days. ஒன்றேயொன்று. One only. ஒன்றோஅவனாலேகேடு. Have I sustained but one loss by him? நான்சொன்னதொன்று, அவன்செய்ததொன்று. I told him one thing and he did another. மனமொன்றுவாக்கொன்று. His profession is one thing and intention another. ஒன்றரை, s. One and a half. ஒன்றன்கூட்டம், s. A collection of similar things, ஒருபொருட்கூட்டம். (p.) ஒன்றன்பால், s. [in grammar.] Neuter singular of the irrational class, அஃறி ணையொருமைப்பால். ஒன்றாய், adv. Together, altogether, ஒன்றாக. ஒன்றாலொன்றும். By any means, யாதொன்றினாலும். ஒன்றாலொன்றுங்குறையில்லை. There is no lack at all--commonly applied to provisions, the country produce, &c. ஒன்றி, s. [vul. ஒண்டி.] One, alone, solitary, lonely (spoken of persons), தனி. ஒன்றிக்காரன்--ஒன்றியாள், s. A bachelor, a widower, a single or lonely person, தனியாள். ஒன்றினமுடித்தறன்னினமுடித்தல், v. noun. [in grammar.] Forming a rule or definition so as to include others, ஒருத்தி. ஒன்றுக்கு. For one thing, viz.: to make water--the common expression among school boys when asking to go out for this purpose. ஒன்றுக்கிருக்க, inf. To sit or squat down or go for one thing, viz.: to make water, நீர்விட. ஒன்றுக்குப்போக, inf. To make water. ஒன்றுக்கொன்று. To or for each other. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுசரி. They are equal, alike, &c. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுபேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். [vul.] They have called each other by hard names. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுவித்தியாசம். Different one from another. ஒன்றுபட, inf. To become reconciled, ஒப்புரவாக. 2. To be united, to coalesce, பொருந்த. ஒன்றுபடுத்த, inf. To bring about a union or acquaintance between persons, ஒருமைப்படுத்த. 2. To reconcile, ஒப் புரவாக்க. ஒன்றுபாதி, s. [prov.] A moiety, a half-commonly of land, அரை. 2. Midnight, நடுச்சாமம். அவன்தன்சரக்கையொன்றுபாதியாகவிற்றுப்போட் டான். He sold his goods at half price. ஒன்றுமண்டடி--ஒன்றுமன்றடி, s. Concord, union, harmony, intimate familiarity. 2. Confusion, want of order or system. ஒன்றுமறியாதவன், s. One who knows nothing. ஒன்றுமறியாதவனுமில்லைஎல்லாமறிந்தவனுமில்லை. None is so ignorant as to know nothing --none so wise as to know every thing. ஒன்றுமற்றவன், s. A useless person, உபயோகமற்றவன். 2. A very poor person, தரித்திரன். ஒன்றுமில்லாமை--ஒன்றுமின்மை, s. Utter destitution, the relinquishing of every thing--as an act of devotion. (அறநெறி.) ஒன்றேகால், s. One and a quarter. ஒன்றொழிபொதுச்சொல், s. [in grammar.] Terms common to both genders, one only of which is understood, the other being excluded by the connexion, இருதிணையாண்பெண்ணுளொன்றனை யொழிக்கும்பொதுச்சொல்--as ஆயிரமக்கள்பொரு தார், a thousand persons fought; i. e. men. 33)

tkili (p. 219) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [probably a corruption of தகலுப் deception.] To cheat by tricks, வஞ்சிக்க. 2. To give that which has been taken by stealth from another. 3. To exchange, to give and take, reciprocally--as rings, &c. (R.) 4. [prov.] To cause to enter or penetrate, உட்புகுத்த. 5. To fix blame on one, குற் றஞ்சாட்ட. 6. To trample down, to make even with ground, &c., to smash, to bruise, to rub into, உழைக்க. தகிலாயம், s. Love, gratitude, friendship, சினேகம். தகிலாயக்காரன், s. A friend. 35)

tāṉ (p. 236) The reciprocal pronoun, himself, herself, itself, the genitive being தன்; in composition sometimes தற். 2. One's self. 3. An emphatic or intensive particle, signifying indeed, really, certainly, தேற் றச்சொல்; as அப்படித்தான், it is so. (c.) 4. An expletive, or அசைச்சொல் suffixed to any noun or pronoun of any person, and declined instead of it, as நிலந்தனைக்கொத்தினான், he dug the earth. 5. Personal identity, சுயம். (p.)--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is the person or being, and the body and mind with their powers and faculties, are merely adventitious; being the fruit of actions, &c. தானேவளர்ந்துதவத்தால்கொடியெடுத்தவன். One who has grown great and become famous of himself through meritorious austerities; often used of one who has risen by the kindness of another, but forgotten his benefactor. தானொருவனுமேதனியாகவந்தான். He only came, he came alone. தான்சாகாமருந்துதின்னலாமா. May any one take medicine to kill himself? தானுள்ளபோதுலோகம். The world is one's while he lives. தானாக்கனியாததுதடிகொண்டடித்தால்கனியுமா. Will a fruit, not ripening of itself, ripen by being beaten with a stick? தானுந்தலைவனும். The soul and God. நீதான். You yourself, you certainly. அவன்றன்னைக்கண்டேன். I saw him. (p.) அவன்றான். He himself; he certainly, truly, really. தானாக, inf. To be absolute, unique, self-existent, independent, தானாயிருக்க; applicable to the deity. 2. To be assimilated, தன்வண்ணமாக. தானாக, [adverbial.] Of his, her, or its own accord; spontaneously, voluntarily. 2. Of or by himself, herself, itself. தானாக்குதல், v. noun. Assimilating a person or thing to one's self, itself, &c., தன்வண்ணமாக்குதல். தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language, from other authors, one of thirty-two உத்தி. தானேயானவன்--தான்தோன்றி, appel. n. The self-existent, the deity, கடவுள். தான்பிழைக்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To regard or consult one's own safety, to be careful not to betray, involve or jeopardize one's self. 2. To seek one's own interests, livelihood, prosperity. 23)

toṭr (p. 262) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், தொடர, v. a. To succeed each other reciprocally as the tree and seed, the body and its actions, and vice versa. பீசவிருட்சநியாயமாத் தொடர. 2. To proceed or succeed each other--as letters in the formation of words, &c., எழுத்துமுதலியதொடர. 3. To follow continually, to continue, இடையறாதுவர. 4. To insist, to engage with energy, முயல. 5. To follow, to attend as on a great man, to pursue, பின்செல்ல. 6. To seek, to go in quest of to apply to from day to day, தேட. 7. To follow in order, in unbroken succession, &c., தொடர்ந்துநிற்க. 8. A letter elided or changed in the combination of words according to the rules of permutation, தொடர்ந்துநிற்குமெழுத்து, as அவனிருந்தான், for அவன் இருந்தான், and வந்தடித்தான்--for வந்து அடித்தான். தொடர்நிலைச்செய்யுள், s. A poem in which several connected actions are related, epic poetry, ஓர்வகைச்செய்யுள். தொடர்ந்தஅன்பு, s. Continued love, (R.) தொடர்ந்தார்--தொடர்ந்தோர், appel. n. (plu.) Friends, companions, மித்திரர். தொடர்ந்துதிரிய, inf. To be constantly about with one. 2. To pursue an object with unremitted application. (c.) தொடர்நதுபழிசெய்ய, inf. To injure one without provocation. தொடர்ந்துபிடிக்க, inf. To overtake, 2. To seek diligently and find. தொடர்ந்துபேச, inf. To continue speaking. தொடர்ந்துபோக, inf. To pursue, follow after one. தொடர்ந்தேற்றி, s. [prov.] Perseverance, persistence, repetition, விடாமுயற்சி. தொடர்ச்சி, v. noun. Pursuit, continuance. (met.) effect or consequence. (Beschi.) 2. To prosecute in law, to claim, to sue. தொடர்ச்சியானகாரியம், s. An actionable matter. தொடர்ச்சியாய்ச்செய்துவர, inf. To persevere in an undertaking. தொடர்பு--தொடர்வு, v. noun. Continuance, succession, தொடர்ச்சி. 2. Series, tissue, train, range, chain, சங்கிலித்தொடர். 3. Friendship, constancy in friendship, attachment, சிநேகம். 4.
