A bank of a tank, river, sea shore, &c., கரைப்பொது. 4. Pillow, cushion, mattress, மெத்தை. 5. (c.) A support, prop, buttress; anything to recline or lean on, முட்டு. 6. Protection, help, assistance, accessoriness to a crime, &c., உதவி. 7. Accompaniment, attendance, adjunct, துணை. 8. A yoke of oxen with a prefix of number; as, ஓரணை, one yoke of oxen, ஈரணை, two yokes of oxen, மூவணை, three yokes of oxen. வெள்ளம்வருமுன்னேயணைபோடவேண்டும், Before the flood comes and the water rise, we must cast up the dam. அணைக்கட்டு, s. An anicut. அணைசொல், s. A word spoken to assist another, a prompting, துணைச்சொல். 2. An expletive, அசைச்சொல். அணையாடை, s. A clout or strip of cloth put under an infant, ஏணைத்துகில். 2. ūṉṟu (p. 72) கிறேன், ஊன்றினேன், வே ன், ஊன்ற, v. a. To plant, set, fix, place firmly, rest upon with pressure--as a pole in propelling, fixing a boat, a musket, a lever, &c., நிறுத்த. 2. To lay down premises in an argument, நியாயத்திற்குமூலத்தைஸ்தாபிக்க. 3. To grasp, hold, strike root as trees, gain a firm footing, become established in a place, இறுகப்பிடிக்க. 4. v. n. To lean upon, recline, or depend on a staff, a person, &c., சார. 5. To be steadfast, firm, intent upon, உறுதியாய்நிற்க. ஊன்றக்கொடுத்ததடியென்னுச்சியையுடைக்கிறது. The staff which I gave him to lean upon, breaks my head; i. e. the good I have done him has turned out evil. கையூன்றிக்கரணம்போடவேண்டும். To tumble, the hands must be fixed on the ground; i. e. nothing can be done without money, means, &c. மழையூன்றிப்பேய்கிறது. It rains hard or incessantly. மேகங்காலூன்றிமழைபெய்தது. The clouds resting on the horizon poured down torrents. நிலத்திற்சிக்கெனவூன்றியவேர். Roots stuck firmly in the ground. ஒத்தகடப்பாட்டிற்றாளுன்றியெய்து. Exerting themselves in their proper calling. ஊன்றக்கட்ட, inf. To edify, ratify. ஊன்றிக்கேட்க, inf. To interrogate with much emphasis, press for an answer, உறுதியாய்வினாவ. 2. To hear attentively, கருத்தாய்ச்செவிகொடுக்க. ஊன்றிக்கொள்ள inf. To gain a firm footing in a place, office, &c.; to establish one's self, நிலைபெற. 2. To lean or depend upon, சார்ந்திருக்க. ஊன்றிச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak, or pronounce with distinct articulation, உறுதியாய்ச்சொல்ல. ஊன்றித்தாங்க, inf. To walk with a firm foot so as to secure a quick pace. கோலையூன்றிக்கொண்டுநடக்கிறான். He walks with the assistance of a staff. ஊன்றிப்படிக்க, inf. To read poetry with proper pauses. 2. To sing with proper articulation, emphasis, &c. ஊன்றிப்பார்க்க, inf. To look steadfastly, intently, &c., நோக்கிப்பார்க்க. 2. To consider a thing maturely, to fix the mind intently on the object of consideration, ஆராய்ந்துபார்க்க. 3. To feel, try--as a fruit, &c., pressing it with the hand, கையினாலழுத்திப்பார்க்க. ஊன்றிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To seize firmly, hold tight, இறுகப்பிடிக்க. 2. To mark faults severely, கூர்மையாய்க்குற்றம் பிடிக்க. 3. To hold fast an opinion, பிடி வாதமாயிருக்க. ஊன்றிப்பேச, inf. To speak emphatically or forcibly, உறுதியாய்ப்பேச. இந்தநியாயத்திலூன்றிப்பேசு. To settle one in life, business, &c. 3. to confirm, settle one in an opinion in a slight degree. ஊன்றுகால், s. A stay, a prop, உதைகால். ஊன்றுகோல், s. A staff, a walking stick, a support, பற்றுக்கோடு. எழுத்தையூன்ற, inf. To put a point over a letter which makes it mute. நாற்றையூன்ற, inf. To set plants.

kiṭ (p. 108) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To lie, lie down, lie in a state of sleep or inactivity, &c., to lie-as a stone, or other lifeless bodies, படுக்க. 2. To be in a state or condition, to exist, இருக்க. 3. To remain, to continue, தரித்திருக்க.--Note. It is often used contemptuously, and sometimes assumes a transitive form. கிடக்கட்டும். Never mind; it is of no consequence; let it be; leave it untouched. அதுவெகுநாளைக்குக் கிடக்கும். It will endure a long time; will last long. காரணங்கிடக்கும். There is a cause. முட்டக்கிடவாது. It will not bear a slight hit or shove. ஊர்அமர்க்களமாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. There is a row or riot in town, lit. the country is a battlefield. அதுகிடக்க. Leaving that; further more. சும்மாகிட. Be quiet, hush. சென்றதுகிடந்திட. Leaving what is past. பகைவர்வருகிறாரென்று கிடக்கிறது. The rumour, the report is, that the enemy is coming. வியாதியாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be sick. கிடக்கை, v. noun. Lying, கிடத்தல். 2. s. State, condition, நிலைமை. 3. A bed, a couch, any sleeping place, படுக்கை. 4. The earth, பூமி. மனக்கிடக்கை, s. A feeling, as it exists in the mind; one's own feeling, மனக்கருத்து. 2. Emotion, pathos, passion, உளத்தியல். கிடப்பு, v. noun. Lying, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly undersirable--as suffering, hunger, &c., இருக்கை. கிடை, v. noun. Lying, lying prostrate, a reclining posture, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly not desirable, நிலை மை. 3. A fold, a pen, a stall, a nest, a lair, any place where beasts or birds lie, --as ஆட்டுக்கிடை, a sheep-fold, மாட்டுக் கிடை, a cow-stall, &c. கிடைகாட்ட, inf. To lie on the back-as beasts when dying. கிடைகூட்ட--கிடைமறிக்க--கிடைவை க்க, inf. To pen up or fold cattle for their manure. கிடைச்சரக்கு, s. Goods lying long on hand. கிடைதலை, s. The condition of being bed-ridden; prostration by sickness or old age. கிடைநாய், s. A shepherd's dog. கிடைப்பட, inf. To be laid on a bed of sickness, to lie ill. கிடைப்பாடு, v. noun. Lingering on a bed of sickness; being bed-ridden, being long lost, by theft, &c. கிடைபாய், s. Bed-mat, a mat for sleeping on. See பாய். கிடைமாடு, s. Cows in a pen, கிடையி லுள்ளமாடு. கட்டுக்கிடையாயிருக்க, inf. To lie a long time unopened, and thus liable to damage. கிடந்தகிடை, Lying as before. கிடந்தகிடையிலேகிடக்கிறான். He still lies as he did. 2. He remains as he was. கிடந்தகிடையைமறந்துவிட்டான். He has forgotten his former estate. நான்மூன்றுமாசங்கிடைவிடவில்லை. I have not left my bed for these three months. கிடவாக்கிடை, [vul.] Hardship, unusual severity, hunger, &c., கஷ்டம். கிடவாக்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be starved. 2. To pinch one's self. 27)

The army of the enemy was defeated. சும்மாசரிந்துகிடவேன். Don't be meddling, (lit.) go and lie down in peace. வெட்டினாலே தோள்சரிந்தது. The wounded shoulder hung down. அநேகர்சரிகிறார்கள். Many people are going in crowds. சரிந்தவெழுத்து, s. Sloping letters, in writing. சரிந்தவயிறு, s. The pendent abdomen --as when the f&oe;tus descends near the time of delivery. 2.
