kuḷir (p. 131) -- குளிரு, கிறது, ந்தது, குளிரும், குளிர, v. n. To be cold, chilly, frigid; to be cold to the touch; to be moist, damp, குளிர்கொள்ள. 2. To be cool, to be refreshed, குளிர்ச்சியுற. 3. To be refreshing, gratifying, pleasant, cheering to the touch, sight or hearing; to be engaging, attactive, benignant--as the countenance, இதமாக. 4. To be appeased, consoled, comforted, சாந்தமுற. 5. To die--spoken of death in time of epidemies, when fear of the avenging goddess prevents the use of the proper word, வசூரிமுதலியவியாதியால்மரிக்க. அப்பாவென்றால்உச்சிகுளிருமா. Will merely saying அப்பா afford relief? i. e. not mere words, but actions are necessary. அவன்ஒரு குளிர்ந்தகொள்ளி. He is a coldblodded persons; a man of a fair speech, but an enemy at heart. இப்பொழுதுஎனக்குமனங்குளிர்ந்தது. I am now refreshed, satisfied, gratified, appeased, &c. உச்சிகுளிர்ந்தது. The head has been cooled or refreshed--as on hearing joyful intelligence, &c. எனக்குக்குளிருகின்றது. I feel cold. என்வயிறுகுளிர்ந்ததுபோல உன்மாளிகையுங்குளிர வேண்டும். May you and your family be refreshed as I have been--an expression of thanks for favors received. சரீரமெல்லாங்குளிர்ந்தது. The whole body is refreshed. குளந்தைஅம்மைவார்த்துக்குளிர்ந்துபோயிற்று. The child has died of small-pox. குளிரப்பண்ண--குளிரவைக்க, inf. To cool wines, spirits, &c. 2. To refresh, to satisfy the appetite, the mind, &c.; to regale, to oblige, to appease. கண்குளிரப்பார்த்தான். He feasted his eyes with a gratifying sight. காதுகுளிரக்கேட்டேன். Refreshing shade. குளிர்ந்தநிறம், s. A gay, cheerful, fine color. குளிர்ந்தநீர், s. cool water. 2. Cooled water after boiling, &c. 3. Good water in gems. குளிர்ந்தபார்வை, s. Engaging, attractive, benignant looks. குளிர்ந்தமுகம், s. Benignant expression of countenance. குளிர்ந்தபூமி, s. A cool climate. குளிர்ந்தபேச்சு--குளிர்ந்தவசனம்--கு ளிர்ந்தவார்த்தை, s. Pleasant, comforting, gratifying language. குளிர்ந்தவாசனை, s. Refreshing odors. குளிர்ந்தமனம், s. A calm, composed mind. 2. A benevolent mind. 3. A pleasant temper, an obliging disposition. குளிர்ந்தபரிமளம், s. A kind of native arsenic, சீதாங்கபாஷாணம். குளிர்ந்துகொல்லி, s. A cold blooded person. குளிர்ந்துகிடக்க--குளிர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become cold--as water after boiling. 2. To die--used auspiciously in time of epidemics. குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. [imp. குளிர்த்தி. vul. குளுத்தி.] Coolness, refrigeration, சீதளம். 2. That which is refreshing, pleasant, gratifying, appeasing; cooling offerings, திருத்திசரம். கண்ணுக்குக்குளிர்ச்சி. Refreshing to the eyes. தெய்வத்துக்குக்குளிர்த்திசெய்தான். He gave cooling fruits to appease the goddess or demon. குளிர்ச்சிப்பண்டம்--குளிர்மைப்பண் டம், s. Any thing that is cooling, refrigerative. குளிர்ச்சியானசாப்பாடு--குளிர்மையான சாப்பாடு, s. Refreshing or cooling kinds of food. குளிர்ச்சியாயிருக்க, inf. To be cool, refreshing to the system. குளிர்ப்பிக்க--குளிர்விக்க, inf. v. a. To cool, to refrigerate; to refresh with water, perfumes, &c.; to gratify the mind, sight, &c., குளிரச்செய்ய. 8)

Cold or fresh water, குளிர்ந்தநீர். 2. [improp.] Water in general, நீர். 3. What is too much diluted, இளகுந்தன்மை.--commonly used தண்ணி. தண்ணீராக, inf. To become watery, to be too much diluted. தண்ணீராக்க, inf. To cause one to have pity. 2. To dissolve metals. 3. To dilute. மனதைத்தண்ணீராக்கிவிட்டான். He has gained his good will. தண்ணீருக்குவிட, inf. To let cattle drink. தண்ணீரெற்ற, inf. To throw out water, with the feet, hands, &c. தண்ணீர்கட்ட, inf. To admit water into garden beds and confine it. தண்ணீர்காட்ட, inf. To water beasts. 2. To deceive, to tantalize; from the story of a buffoon who obeyed the command literally, and showed water to his master's horse, but did not suffer him to drink. தண்ணீர்காண, inf. To appear or gush out, as water in a newly dug well. தண்ணீர்குடித்தபாடம்--தண்ணீர்ப்பா டம், s. An expression used to denote intimate acquaintance. 2. A lesson well learnt. 3. A science well mastered. (c.) தண்ணீர்க்கண்டம், s. Accident by water. See கண்டம். தண்ணீர்கலசம்-தண்ணீர்க்குடம், s. A water-pot. தண்ணீர்க்காரன், s. (fem. தண்ணீர்க்காரி. vul. தண்ணீர்க்காரிச்சி.) A man who draws or brings water. தண்ணீர்க்கால், s. A water-course, a channel for water. தண்ணீர்தெளிக்க, inf. To sprinkle water for the purification of sheep, for sacrifice. 2. (fig.) To give one over to his own way. நான்அவனைத்தண்ணீர்தெளித்துவிட்டுவிட்டேன். I have left him to himself. தண்ணீர்த்தவனம்--தண்ணீர்விடாய், s. Thirst. தண்ணீர்த்துறை, s. The entrance to a tank, river, &c., where men or cattle go for water. தண்ணீர்பட்டபாடு, v. noun. Like water; i. e. profuse, plentiful, free. (c.) தண்ணீர்ப்பந்தல்--தண்ணீர்ச்சாலை, s. A shed where water, butter-milk, lemonade, &c., are furnished. தண்ணீர்ப்பிடி--தண்ணீர்ப்பிடிப்பு, v. noun. Being watery as food or fruits. 2. Containing water, as pustules. 3. Being suffused with watery humors, as the body. 4. The limit of the water in a tank. See சீர்ப்பிடி. தண்ணீர்ச்சாரை, s. A kind of ratsnake living in tanks, as நீர்ச்சாரை. தண்ணீர்ப்பகை, s. Hurtfulness of some kinds of water. (Rare.) தண்ணீர்ப்பாம்பு, s. A water snake, whose bite is not venomous. தண்ணீர்மாற, s. [prov.] To lead water into garden-beds, to trees, &c. (c.) தண்ணீர்வார்க்க, s. To give water to travellers from a water shed. 2. To pour water for a low caste person to drink, who is not allowed to touch the cup. தலைக்குத்தண்ணீர்வார்த்தல். Bathing a girl with appropriate ceremonies, on her becoming marriageable; done by aged matrons, not widows, who are not allowed to be present. தண்ணீரொத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To agree with one's constitution, as water. (c.) தண்ணீரோத--தண்ணீர்மந்திரிக்க, inf. To consecrate, or enchant water to be given to a woman in labor, &c., to dispel the effects of the evil eye, &c. தண்ணீர்விட்டான், appel. n. The coming away of the waters at a birth, passing of the amniotic fluid. பனிச்சாமை, s. A species of சாமை grain. பனிதாங்கி, appel. n. A kind of herb, ஓர்பூடு. பனித்திவலை--பனித்துளி, s. Dew drop. பனிநத்தை, s. A snail prevalent in the dewy or rainy season. பனிநீங்குதல், v. noun. Dew Vanishing. பனிநீர், s. [com. பன்னீர் which see.] Rose water, or other liquid perfumery, also serum and water of the amnion. பனிப்பகை, s. The sun, as the foe or dispeller of dew or fog, சூரியன். பனிப்படலம், s.
