aṭkku (p. 7) கிறேன், அடக்கினேன், வேன், அடக்க, v. a. To subject, control, curb, bring to order--as foes, &c., compress, coerce, restrain, tame, break--as a horse--constrain, repress, cause to recede, bring one to terms, to still, compose, கீழ்ப் படுத்த. 2. To settle, subside, be laid--as dust, அமைய. 5. To be embodied, incorporated, திரள. 6. To be reduced low--as the system when near death, &c., சாக, ஒடுங்க. அடங்கல், s. All, the whole, மு ழுமை. புரமடங்கலுந்தெறுகணை. The arrow which destroyed the whole of the three cities. (In காந்தம்.) அடங்கலர்--அடங்காதார், s. Foes, insubordinate persons, பகைவர். (p.) அடங்கன்முறை, s. A book which treats of the ceremonies of the Saiva sect, தேவாரம். அடங்காப்பற்று--அடங்கார்பதி, s. A rebellious province, கீழ்ப்படியாதார் இருக் கும் ஊர். அடங்காமாரி, s. An audacious, contumacious, insubordinate woman, மு ரண்டானவள். அடங்காமை, neg. v. noun. Insubordinateness, rudeness, haughtiness, untractableness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அடங்காவாரிதி, s. Urine, மூத்தி ரம். 2. amrttu (p. 19) கிறேன், அமர்த்தினேன், வேன், அமர்்த்த, v. a. To make quiet, tranquillize, settle, make steady, quell, mitigate, appease, &c., அடக்க. 2. To press down, put or keep down, (a person or thing inclined to rise,) put or hold down, suppress or curb pride, anger, &c., repress, restrain, அமரச்செய்ய. (c.) 3. To prepare, எத்தனம்பண்ண. 4. To engage, employ, ஏற்ப டுத்த. 5. v. n. to engage in battle, பொர. (p.) பூசைக்குவேண்டியவைகளையமர்த்தினான். He has prepared things necessary for the puja. பந்தியமர்த்த, inf. intiriyam (p. 46) s. [contracted into இந்தியம்.] An organ of sense, or organ of the body, பொறி; [ex இந்திர, the soul or self, or what is with difficulty restrained by the soul.] There are three kinds of இந்திரியம், or sensual organs; viz.: those of perception, those of action and the intellectual organs. Wils. p. 133. INDRYA. I. ஞானேந்திரியம், the organs of sense or perception are five; viz.: 1. சக்கு, சட்சு or கண், the eye, the organ of sight having உருவம் or visible forms as its object. 2. சோத்திரம் or செவி, the ear, the organ of hearing, having சத்தம், (sound) as its object. 3. ஆக்கிராணம் or மூக்கு, the nose, the organ of smelling, having கந்தம், (odors) as its object. 4. சிங்குவை or நா, the tongue, the organ of tasting, having இரசம், (flavors) as its object. 5. தொக்கு or துவக்கு or உடம்பு, the surface of the body, the organ of feeling, having பரிசம், (touch or contact) as its object. II. கன்மேந்திரியம், or organs of actions are five; viz.: 1. வாக்கு, the mouth or organ of speech. 2. பாதம், the feet. 3. பாணி, the hands. 4. பாயுரு, the anus. 5. உபஸ்தம், the genitals. III. அந்தக்கரணம் or அந்தரிந்திரியம், the intellectual powers are four; viz.: 1. மனம், the organ of thought or perception, emotion. 2. புத்தி, understanding, conception, reason, intellect--the organs of examination, investigation, reflection, comparison, device, experiment. 3. ஆங்காரம், emotion, self-importance, inflation, presumption, energy, impulse, the organ of excitement, resolution, effort, &c. 4. சித்தம், volition, will, purpose, determination, that power of the mind which leads to the accomplishment of objects. 2. The sperm, seed of men, விந்து. இந்திரியகோசரம், s. Perceptibleness, capability of being determined by the senses, இந்திரியத்துக்குவிஷயமாகுகை. Wils. p. 132. INDRYAGOCHARA. இந்திரியக்காட்சி--இந்திரியப்பிரத் தியட்சம், s. Evidence of the senses. இந்திரியத்துவாரம், s. The inlets or avenues of the senses--as means of perception. இந்திரியநிக்கிரகம், s. The subjugation of the passions, இந்திரியமடக்குகை. இந்திரியநுகர்ச்சி, s. Enjoyment of sense, இந்திரியானுபவம். இந்திரியாசங்கம், s. Stoicism, detachment from sensual objects, விஷயவெ றுப்பு; [ex ஆசங்கை, doubt.] 18) *

iṉi (p. 57) adv. Now, immediately, presently, இப்பொழுது. 2. Henceforth, hereafter, பின்பு. 3. A particle of place, from this limit, onward, இப்பால். (நன்னூல்.) இனிக்கள்ளமில்லை. There is no more injurious, offensive matter, &c., no longer any alloy, spuriousness, &c. இனிக்காரியமில்லை. There is no further business. There is no more hope for him--said of a dying man, &c. இனிநம்மெல்லை. We are now close on our limit; we approach our boundary. இனிப்பிழைக்கிறதா? Can he possibly survive? (he will certainly die). இனிப்பேசு. Now you may speak, there is no longer any restraint. இனிப்போதும். Now there is enough. இனிமேல். Hereafter, at some future time. இனியார்? Who else? இனியாற்றாது. I am unable to proceed further (I am altogether exhausted). இனியெங்கேபோவாய்? Whither will you go next? What further resource is left you? இனியென்னசெய்வாய்? What can you do further? இனிவேண்டாம். It is needed no longer, or no more is required. பண்டறியேன்கூற்றென்பதனையினியறிந்தேன்.... Formerly I knew not, but now I know who Yama is. (குறள்.) 46)

iyamaṉ (p. 48) s. Yama the god of death, regent of the south, and king of hell, (நரகம்.) the place of his capital, in which he sits in judgment on departed souls, sending the good to Swerga and the wicked to Naraka. In the latter there are 28,, divisions appropriated to different classes, according to their respective demerits. He is figuratively described as devouring souls for food. He takes the buffalo for his vehicle; and for weapons, the battle-axe, club and cord, நமன்; [ex யம, to stop, restrain.] Wils. p. 681. YAMA. 2. [Med. usage.] One of the two poisonous fangs of snakes, பரம்பினச்சுப்பற்களி லொன்று. இயமகணம்--இயமகிங்கரர்--இய மதூதர்--இயமபடர். s. The messengers of Yama, நமன்றூதர். இயமதூதி, s. One of the lower poisonous fangs of a snake. இயமலோகம், s. The place of departed souls, the purgatory of the Hindus--the kingdom of Yama. 3) *

urṉ (p. 64) s. Power, strength, firmness, வலி. 2. Strength of mind, fortitude, energy, bravery, ஊக்கம். 3. Knowledge, spiritual or profound knowledge that may induce self-restraint, அறிவு. (p.) உரனென்னுந்தோட்டியான். By strength of mind as a hook which guides the elephant -- (குறள்.) 9)

ulmpu (p. 66) கிறேன், உலம்பினேன், வே ன், உலம்ப, v. n. To sound, exclaim, roar, cry out, முழங்க. 2. To blab, chatter, boast, அலப்ப. (p.) அட்டுலம்பினான். Slaying (his foes) he proclaimed aloud his bravery. (ஸ்காந்.) ஒல்காதார்வாய்விட்டுலம்புப. They who restrain not themselves give utterance to their thoughts and boast aloud. (நீதிநெ.) உலம்பல், v. noun. The act of sounding, ஒலித்தல். 4)

ulvi (p. 66) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. and n. To be sparing in order to leave a supply for others, to forbear, or be reluctant, &c., be bashful in eating, &c., உலோபமாயிருக்க. 2. To evince diffidence in accepting favors, gifts, &c.; to be diffident, or backward in coming into company, கூசியொழுக. 3. To restrain one's self, forbear, ஒறுக்க.--Note. This word seems to be a causative of உலவு in a contracted form. உலவியரமற்சாப்பிடும். Eat without restraint, take as much as you like. சாப்பாட்டையுலவிக்க. To eat food sparingly. அவருடைய முகத்துக்காகவுலவித்துவிட்டுவிட்டேன். One his account I forbore (to act as otherwise I would have done). இங்கேசாப்பிடவுலவிப்பானேன்? Why should you be unwilling to eat here? தன்வயிற்றைத்தானுலவிக்கலாமா? Ought one to deprive himself of necessary food? 8)

ellai (p. 74) s. A limit, border, boundary, frontier, confine, precinct, அவதி. 2. Measure, extent, அளவு. 3. End, termination, verge, goal, extremity, முடிவு. 4. The sun, சூரியன். 5. The distance within the reach of the voice, கூப்பிடுதூரம். 6. A day of twenty-four hours, நாள். 7. A term, a period, a specified or prescribed time, கால வரையறை. (கு. 381.) (p.) எல்லைக்கணின்றார். They who abide within the limits (of friendship). (குறள்.) தீமைக்கெல்லையற்றவச்சத்தினோடு. With infinite dread of vice. இட்டநாளுமெல்லையும். The destined day and limit, the term of life assigned to every one. எல்லைகடக்க, inf. To exceed the bounds, transgress. 2. To pass over a boundary. எல்லைகட்ட, inf. To limit, set a boundary, எல்லைபோட. 2. To restrain, circumscribe, எல்லைப்படுத்த. 3. To decide differences, settle matters, வரையறுக்க. 4. To finish, முடிக்க. எல்லைகுறிக்க, inf. To mark a limit, set boundaries, determine confines, வரம்பேற்படுத்த. 2. To fix a term, கால் வரையறைகுறிக்க. குறித்தவெல்லைகடவாதே. Pass not over the prescribed boundary. எல்லைகெட்டநேரம், s. An inauspicious time--as twilight, noon, &c., when demons are about, an unseasonable time for the performance of an action, ஒவ்வாதநேரம். எல்லைக்கட்டு, s. A boundary, demarkation, வரம்பு. 2. v. noun. Restraint, circumseription, கட்டுப்பாடு. எல்லைக்கல், s. A stone to mark a limit, a land-mark. எல்லைக்காவல், s. A watch-shed, &c., to mark the division of one field from another, ஊரெல்லையிற்காக்கும்வயற்கா வல். எல்லைக்குறிப்பு, s. Boundarymark, land-mark, எல்லையடையாளம். 2. Milestones, mileposts, வழியளவைக்குறிப்பு. எல்லைக்கேடு, s. Inconvenience, want of opportunity, சமயமொவ்வாமை. 2. Unsuitableness, or inconvenience in regard to place, ஸ்தானமொவ்வாமை. எல்லைத்தீ, s. The fire-deluge, the fire that destroys all things at the close of an age, ஊழ்த்தீ. எல்லைப்படுத்த, inf. To limit, to settle a boundary, அளவுபடுத்த. 2. To settle matters, decide, finish, தீர்க்க. எல்லைப்பிடாரி, s. An evil demoness supposed to be situated where roads meet, சந்திப்பிடாரி. எல்லைமானம், s. Boundary, limit, circuit, எல்லை. 2. Measure, extent, அளவு. எல்லையின்மை, s. Boundlessness, immensity, infinity, அளவின்மை. எல்லையோட, inf. To run the bounds of a village or district--a religious ceremony performed by some of the Hindu sects with much superstition, எல்லையைச்சுற்றிவர. நாளெல்லை, s. The close of a day. 2. The end of a term. 3. The close of life. 10)

evṉ (p. 74) s. Who, which man? யாவன். 2. What, which things? யாது. 3. A term expressive of sorrow, pity. doubt, &c., துக்கம், இரக்கம், ஐயமிவற்றைக்காட்டுஞ்சொல். In the second sense it is used as a symbolic verb. எவனும்--எவரும், pron. Whoever, every one. எவனொருவன். Which one, whoever, whichever person. எவனொருவன்வருவானோ அவனுக்கேகிடைக்கும். Whoever comes, may have it. அதெவனது. Whose is that? to whom does it belong? சிறைகாக்குங்காப்பெவன்செய்யும். What avails restraint as regards the chastity of females? எங்களிலெவன். Who of us? பலனெவன். What profit is there? எவை, inter. neut. pl. What, which (things)? யாவை. எவையும்--எவைகளும். Whatever, what things soever, every thing, யா வையும். 15)

ēṟu (p. 79) கிறேன், ஏறினேன், வேன், ஏற. v. n. [also used with the impers. terminations.] To rise, rise--as the heavenly bodies-as a kite, &c.; to emerge, இவர. 2. To get upon, mount, to ride a horse, a vehicle, வாகனமேற. 3. To enter, to penetrate--as a nail, a probe, a thorn; as thoughts or advice into the mind, &c., தைக்க. 4. To embark, to get into a boat or vessel, to be laden--as cargo, கப்பலேற. 5. To be elevated, high, beyond, &c.; to exceed mediocrity, to be excessive, redundant, superfluous, உயர. 6. To exceed in number, weight, measure, to rise in price, quality, &c., தொகைமுதலியவதிகரிக்க. 7. To pervade, to be diffused through the blood--as poison, நஞ்சேற. ஏறுகாலிறங்குகால்பார்க்க. To trace the track of an animal up and down a hill, to or from the water, &c.--as a hunter. குதிரையேறிவந்தான். He came on horseback. பயிரேறிவிட்டது. The corn is grown up. சொன்னதுமனதிலேறவில்லை. It did not enter his mind, he did not take notice of what was said. மாவேறமலையேறும். Small sums make a large total, lit. mountains are formed from atoms. இந்தத்தோணியிலெவ்வளவேறும். What is the tonnage of this dhoney? ஏற. [inf. of ஏறு, used adverbially.] High, much more, exceeding, மிக. அரைப்படிக்கேறக்கொடு. Give me more than half a measure. இதேறப்பெறும். This is worth more. விலையேறப்பெற்றது. That which is obtained at a high price. 2. That which is valuable, precious. ஏறக்கட்ட, inf. To build up, to edify, உயரக்கட்ட. 2. To refuse selling that the price may be increased, தானிய மேறக்கட்ட. 3. To be restrained, or to withhold as the clouds from raining, or a cow from giving milk, மழைமுதலியபெய் யாதிருக்க. 4. [local.] To collect scattered grain in a heap, இறைந்ததானியத்தைக்கூட்டிச் சேர்க்க. வானம்மழையேறக்கட்டிவிட்டது. The heaven has withheld the rain. ஏறக்கட்டித்தூக்க, inf. To hang up a thing. 2. To hang one up by the hands--as a school boy, a slave, &c., in order to flog him. ஏறக்குறைய--ஏறத்தாழ, s. More or less, about right, nearly. ஏறக்குறையப்பேச. to insult, to abuse. நூறுபேருக்கேறக்குறைய. About one-hundred persons. ஏறச்செலவழிக்க, inf. To spend extravagantly. ஏறவாங்க, inf. To buy cheaper, நயமாகவாங்க. 2. to be drawn up, distorted--as the neck by cold, &c., கழுத்தேற வாங்க. ஏறவிட, inf. To keep off a vessel from shore, மரக்கலத்தைக்கரைக்குத்தூரவிட. 2. To keep near to the wind--as a vessel, காற்றுமுகமாய்விட. 3. To turn a vessel to the shore, கரைசேரவிட. ஏறவிட்டேணியைவாங்கினதுபோல். Like removing the ladder a person has ascended. ஏறவிறங்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To stare at one, to gaze at one from head to foot, கேசாதிபாதமீறாகப்பார்க்க. நடந்தேற, inf. To be accomplished, to succeed. கரையேற, inf. To land, disembark. 2. To attain the shores of final salvation. ஏறாங்கடைசி, s. [prop. ஏறுகடை.] The very end, அறமுடிவு. ஏறாமேடு, s. A height which one cannot reach, or to which water cannot rise, உயர்ந்தமேடு. 2. An enterprise above one's power, செய்யக்கூடாதகாரியம். 3. An inconvenient engagement, unsuitable contract, &c.--as an unequal marriage, ஒவ்வாமை-- in use, ஏறாங்கடை ஏறிக்கொள்ள, inf. To establish one's self in a high office, &c., to arrive at a high state or sanctity, or to attain a higher degree in religion. See நிலை or பாதம். சாதியிலேயேறிக்கொண்டான். [prov.] He has risen in caste by marrying in a higher family (spoken sarcastically). ஏறிட, inf. To stick into, to cause to enter, to pierce, புகப்பண்ண. 2. To place, set up, fix, ஏற்ற. வில்லைவளைத்துநாணேறிட்டு. Bending the bow and fixing on the bowstring. பருவிற்சலாகையையேறிட்டான். He introduced the probe into the sore. ஏறிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To look up. 2. To attend to one when speaking. 3. To look or stare at a person. என்னையேறிட்டுப்பார்க்கவில்லை. He did not even cast a look at me, he took no notice of me. Amongst the Hindus it is not deemed respectful to look at a superior in the face; even when addressing him or receiving his directions. ஏறுகடை, s. The very end, the extremity, முடிவானகடை. ஏறுகுதிரை, s. A riding horse. ஏறுக்குமாறு--ஏறுமாறு, s. Improper, unruly, or vicious behavior, தாறுமாறு. ஏறுசலாகை, s. [prov.] In building, a large lath passing through the ends of rafters, கைமரங்கோக்குஞ்சலாகை. ஏறுதுறை, s. A port, place of embarkation, exportation, &c., துறைமுகம். ஏறுநெற்றி, s. A high forehead (regarded as a fortunate mark in a man, but unlucky in a female--as calculated to cause an untimely death to her husband), also a mark of a masculine, imperious and irrascible temper, அகன்ற நெற்றி. ஏறுபடி, s. An extra batta or allowance above the stated proportion, to a servant, for expenditure in the temple, for an entertainment, &c., அதிகப்படி. ஏறுபெட்டி, s. [prov.] A toddydrawer's basket for carrying toddy, கள் ளேறுபெட்டி. ஏறுபொழுது, s. The sun as it rises toward the meridian. ஏறுமிராசி, s. The constellation in the sun's path from the equator to the northern solstitial point, உச்சத்திற்கேறு மிராசி. See இறங்குமிராசி. ஏறுவட்டம், s. The difference, less or more than sixty Indian hours, in the passage of the moon through any of the asterisms, also the difference in the கர ணம் and யோகம் as affected thereby, நட் சத்திரமுதலியனநாழிகையேறுமுறை. 2. In the division of the inheritance of lands, trades, &c., the excess above or the deficiency in equal shares, பங்கினளவுக்கதிகமா னநிலமுதலியன. ஏறுவால், s. A long tail--a good sign in certain animals, நீண்டவால். பசுஏறுவாலுமெருதுகூழைவாலும். A long tail for a cow and a short one for a bull are desirable. ஏறுவெய்யில். Increasing heat or sunshine as the sun rises towards the meridian, காலைவெய்யில்--opp. இறங்குவெய் யில். ஏறெடுக்க, inf. To lift up the head, eyes, &c., மேலெடுக்க. 82)

oṭukku (p. 81) கிறேன், ஒடுக்கினேன், வே ன், ஒடுக்க, v. a. To reduce, compress, bring into a narrower compass, condense, to lessen, bring down--as another's pride, to keep down, keep under, அடக்க. 2. To press, oppress, tyrannize, vex, வருத்த. 3. To reduce the system by medicine or a sparing diet, உடம்பையொடுக்க. 4. To involve one in another--as the elements, cause to disappear--as the worlds, &c., at the close of an age, பூதங்களைலயிக்கச்செய்ய. 5. To close, to finish as a work, the harvest, &c., முடிக்க. 6. To pack in, to put in, to put things close in a bag, a box or other receptacle, செறிக்க. உலகப்பற்றையொவ்வொன்றாயொடுக்க. To relinquish worldly attachments one by one. ஒடுக்கிக்கட்ட, inf. To compress and tie a thing close. 2. To tuck up the skirts and fasten the end behind-as in wet weather. 3. To hem an ola basket, fan, &c. ஒடக்கித்தட்ட, inf. To make a metal utensil thicker and narrower by beating. ஒடுக்கித்தைக்க, inf. To make a garment smaller. ஒடுக்கிவெட்ட, inf. To hew timber reducing the breadth. ஒடுக்குவாய், s. Distorted mouth, கோணல்வாய். வீட்டையொடுக்கிக்கட்ட, inf. To build a house narrow. உடம்பையொடுக்க, inf. To reduce the body by eating sparingly. 2. To contract the body--as a tiger, a cat, &c., to reduce the body to a smaller compass --as in a leaping, sneaking, or creeping posture. செலவையொடுக்க--செலவையொ டுக்கிப்பிடிக்க. inf. To retrench expenses. 2. To live frugally, sparingly, &c. வயிற்றையொடுக்க, inf. To restrain the appetite, to reduce the quantity of food in order to save money. புலனையொடுக்க, inf. To restrain the senses--as ascetics or otherwise; to mortify the senses, passions, &c. 2. To call home the thoughts and fix them on divine things. ஒடுக்கு, v. noun. Contracting, closing, compression, narrowness, அடக் கம். 2. s. A corner to creep into, இடுக்கு. ஒடுக்கிடம், s. A corner, a narrow or confined place, மூலை. 2. A recess, a hiding place, மறைவிடம். ஒடுக்குச்சீட்டு--ஒடுக்குத்துண்டு, s. A receipt given by government for money, வரிச்சீட்டு. பணவொடுக்கு, v. noun. [prov.] A remittance of money. 48)

oṭungku (p. 81) கிறேன், ஒடுங்கினேன், வே ன், ஒடுங்க, v. n. To shrink, become reduced, compressed, closed, contracted, narrow, to lessen, to abate, crouch, lie within a small compass, diminish, grow less--as a globe from the centre to the poles, அடங்க. 2. To be restrained--as the senses, desires, &c., புலனொங்க. 3. To give place, recede, pass on one side--as in meeting a superior; to shrink within one's self, showing reverence, taking off the mantle, turban, sandals, &c.; to creep along sideways, ஒதுங்க. 4. To be reduced in circumstances, power, prosperity, in show, in expenditure, in the mental or bodily faculties, energies, &c., to grow lean, be reduced in size, whether by disease, want of food, or otherwise, குறைய. 5. To cease-as noise, bustle, stir, &c., அமைய. 6. To sink or retire--as the soul in sleep, fainting, or through the different stages at death, சோர. 7. To become dissolved or involved one within another--as the elements, worlds, &c., till all is absorbed in the deity, பூதங்களொடுங்க. 8. To end, terminate, cease, முடிய. 9. To obey, submit, கீழ்ப்படிய. 1. To be concealed, பதுங்க. 11. To be packed, stowed away, செறிய. 12. To be retrenched, சுருங்க. 13. To disappear, become absorbed, dissolved--as salt in water, &c., கரைய. 14. To grow dim-as a light, a heavenly body, &c., to become extinct--as light by passing into its previous elements or ether, ஒளிமழுங்க. மாடுநுகத்தைக்கண்டொடுங்குகிறது. The ox has assumed a sickly appearance; or it shrinks at the sight of the yoke. ஊணொடுங்கவீணொடுங்கும். If his food be reduced, his dissipation will cease. உலகுதோன்றினமுறையேயொடுங்கும். The world will be reduced to its primeval elements in the order in which it was educed. ஆளொடுங்கினவேளைபார்த்துவந்தான். He watched for an opportunity and came when all was still (for plunder, &c.). கலிமுதிரமுதிரப்பெரியவர்களொடுங்கிவிட்டார்கள்... As the iron age advances, the great are reduced. ஒடுங்கலில்பல்கலை. The various sciences which are unlimited. குளிராலொடுங்க, inf. To shrink with cold. ஒடுங்கி, s. A tortoise, ஆமை. ஒடுக்கம், v. noun. Narrowness, straitness, closeness, வழியொடுக்கம். 2. Contraction into itself--as the tortoise, an elastic substance, &c., சுருங்குகை. 3. Retirement within doors, abatement, concealment by stooping and creeping along--as a man to shoot, or a tiger to spring on its prey, &c., பதுங்குகை. 4. Suppression, contraction, reduction, நெருக்கம். 5. Reverence, self-restraint, modesty, அ டக்கம். 6. Involution--as of the elements one into another, absorption, dissolution, disappearance--as of salt in water, ஒன்றிலொன்றடங்குகை. 7. Cessation (of noise, bustle, stir--as by night in time of epidemics, &c.), quietude, calmness, stillness, அமைவு. 8. Sinking as the soul through its different stages at death, gradual reduction--as of circumstances, the powers of the body by age, &c., பலமுதலியவொடுங்குகை. 9. s. End, close, termination, முடிவு. ஒடுக்கத்திலேயொன்றுமில்லை. At the end nothing (of earth) will accompany us, remain, avail, &c. அவனுக்குச்சாப்பாடொடுக்கமாய்ப்போயிற்று. His food is diminished in quantity. காரியமொடுக்கத்தில்வந்தது. The matter has resolved itself into a narrow compass. காரியமொடுக்கமாயிருக்கின்றது. The business, provision, ceremony, &c., is on a small scale. ஒடுக்கநாள், s. A day of distress. ஒடுக்கமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not restrain himself, his passions, desires, &c. 2. One who does not pay proper respect to his superiors. ஒடுக்கம்பார்த்துவர, inf. To attack a house, a city, when in a defenceless state, or by night when all are asleep. ஒடுக்கவணக்கம், s. Modest deportment, reverence, veneration. பனியொடுக்கம், s. The fall of heavy dew when all is still. காற்றொடுக்கம், s. A calm, a lull, absence of wind. புலனொடுக்கம், s. Restraint of the senses. 2.
