ari (p. 23) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To sift, separate larger and smaller bodies with the hand, sieve, riddle, &c., கொ ழிக்க. 2. To separate rubbish from dried leaves with the hand, in order to gather the latter for fuel, சருகரிக்க. 3. To beat and wash away, as flowing water on sand, or waves on the shore, washing away the earth and leaving the pebbles, &c. behind, நீர்மணலையரிக்க. 4. To wash rice, separate dust and grit from rice, &c., by washing; or particles of gold, silver, &c., கழுவிப்பி ரிக்க. 5. To gnaw as white ants and other vermin, செல்முதலியவரிக்க. 6. To corrode, as rust, &c., cut away, as caustics, consumemar, as moths, கல்ல. 7. To tease, vex by importunity, as creditors, an urgent child, &c., மனதையலைக்க. 8. To take away one's property by little and little, சிறிதுசிறிதாக க்கவர. 9. [in arith.] To divide, பங்கிட. அரித்துப்பிடுங்குகிறான். He teases or vexes by incessant entreaties, (lit.) he stings or bites as lice. மணிகளையரித்தெடுத்தான். He separated and took the precious stones. அரிகறையான், s. A teasing person, (lit.) a gnawing white ant. அரிபிளவை, s. A cancerous formation, constantly eating into the flesh, ஓர்வகைப்பரு. அரிபுழு, s. Worms constantly grawing and causing itching irritation, &c. (c.) அரிபெட்டி, s. A sieve or cullender, சல்லடை. அரிமணல், s. Fine sand. அரிப்பு, v. noun. Sifting, separating. 2. Nibbling, gnawing, &c. 3. Itching. 4. Corrosion. 5. Smartness. (c.) அரிப்பன்--அரிப்பான்--அரிப்புக் காரன், s. A sifter, one who sifts sand in the street, or the dust of the goldsmith. அரிப்புக்கூடை, s. A riddle.

aviẕ (p. 31) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To loosen, slacken, untie, unbind, unpack, unfasten, unsew, முடியவிழ்க்க. 2. To cause to open, as the sun opens flowers. Humming insects are also described by poets as opening the flowers. மலரச்செய்ய. 3. To solve an enigma, unriddle, explain a difficulty, விடுகதைவிடுவிக்க. அவன்காலால்முடிந்ததைக் கையாலவிழ்க்கக்கூடாது. One written in the form of inter-linked curves. சதுரங்கபந்தம். One in the form of squares. சுழிகுளம். Verses written in a winding manner. நாகபந்தம். A poem in the form of intertwined snakes, &c. சித்திரக்காரன், s. A carver, painter. சித்திரகூடம், s. An ornamented or painted room, or hall with pictures, --as சித்திரசாலை.--Note. This term is applied to the temple at Chillumbram, and a mountain in Bundelcund where Rama abode in his exile. சித்திரக்குள்ளன், s. A cunning or shrewd dwarfish person. (c.) சித்திரங்கொத்த--சித்திரம்வெட்ட, inf. To carve, sculpture, grave, &c., on a plain surface. சித்திரசொரூபம், s. An image, an idol, a carved statue, a picture. சித்திரதீபம், s. A painted candle or taper. சித்திரதீபம்போலிருந்து தியானிக்கிறான். He sits meditating, motionless as a painted taper. சித்திரத்தையல், s. Fancy needle work. 2. As சித்திரப்பாவை. சித்திரத்தேர், s. An ornamented car. சித்திரந்தீர--சித்திரந்தீட்ட, inf. To carve or engrave any figures on wood or stone. சித்திரப்படம், s. A picture. 2. (p.) Variegated, painted or printed cloth, எழுத் துப்புடவை. சித்திரப்படாம், s. Veriegated, painted cloth. 2. A book of pictures, folds of paintings for amusement. (p.) சித்திரப்பதிமை--சித்திரப்பதுமை, s. A doll, statue, a puppet. சித்திரப்பா, s. As சித்திரகவி. சித்திரப்பாவை, s. A portrait or picture of a person or persons, real or imaginary, a carved figure. (நன்.) சித்திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A picture, a portrait. சித்திரப்பூம்பட்டாடை, s. Flowered silk cloth. (c.) சித்திரப்பேச்சு, s. Artful speech, cunning, jesting shrewdness. சித்திரமண்டபம்--சித்திரச்சாலை, s. A painted chamber or hall. சித்திரமெழுத, inf. To draw a picture, to paint, to sketch. (c.) சித்திரவெழுத்து, s. Elegant, nice, beautiful writing; caligraphy. 2. Variegated or fancy painting. 3. An anagram, as ஞிமிறு for மிஞிறு. சித்திரரேகை, s. Ornamental lines drawn on the body of a person. 2. One of the lines in the hand. 3. The wife of Kuvéra, குபேரன்மனைவி. சித்திரர்--சித்திரக்காரர், s. Fancy painters, portrait painters, limners, embroiderers. 2. Artizans, carvers, sculptors, engravers, சிற்பர். 3. Carpenters, தச்சர். சித்திரவதை--சித்திராக்கினை, s. Cutting and slashing in battle, prolonged butchery, cutting off member after member. 2. Ingenious and varied torture in inflicting death. (c.) சித்திரவித்தாரன், s. One artful, clever, or dexterous; one fluent in speech. (p.) சித்திரவித்தை, s. The art of fancypainting, sculpture, carving, engraving, &c. சித்திரவேலைக்காரர், s. Any fancyworkers, imitators of nature--as flower makers, artizans, sculptors, engravers. 2. Fancy-painters. (c.) சித்திரவேளாகொல்லி, s. A mode of music, a fine melody, கொல்லித்திறத்தினொ ன்று. Its own appropriate season, time of a person's power, or prosperity; or the period when a thing prevails, as rain in the monsoon, தன் னுடையகாலம். தன்குலம்வெட்டி, appel. n. Destroyer of his own family, தனதுவமிசத்தைக்கெடுக் கிறவன். 2. (fig. as a riddle.) The handle of an axe, கோடரிக்காம்பு. தன்கொண்டி, s. (P.) தன்மனம், s. Uncontrolled, at liberty. 2. Self-will--as தன்கொண்டி. தன்மூப்பு, v. noun. Youthful arrogance, forwardness, self-will, இறுமாப்பு. 2. His own master, தன்னிஷ்டம். தன்மூப்பானவன்--தன்மூப்பாய்நடக் கிறவன், appel. n. An assuming, arrogant youth; an upstart. 2. One who acts on his own responsibility. தன்மூப்புச்செலுத்த--தன்மூப்புப்பண் ண, inf. To act on one's own responsibility. தன்மேம்பாடு, v. noun. One's abilities, greatness, influence, தன்பெருமை. தன்மேம்பாட்டுரை, s. [a figure in rhetoric.] Declaration of one's greatness, abilities &c., ஓரலங்காரம், அஃது தற்பு கழ்ச்சி. தன்வசம், s. In one's power. (c.) தன்வசப்படுத்த, inf. To take under charge, to appropriate a thing to one's own use. தன்வயத்தனாதல், v. noun. Independence or self-existence--one of the eight attributes of God, கடவுளெண்கு ணத்தொன்று. (p.) தன்வழி, s. One's parentage, or ancestry, one's relations, தன்மரபோர். தன்வழிப்படுத்த, inf. See வெற்றி. தன்னிலை, s. One's proper standing, nature, or state, சுபாவநிலை. 2. Equilibrium of the proper state of the numerous parts of the system, சமனாய்நிற்கை. தன்னிறமாக்கி, appel. n. Determined perseverance in a thing undertaken for credit's sake, தன்முயற்சி. தன்னைக்கட்ட, inf. [vul. தன்னக்கட்ட.] To be just sufficient for one's support. 2. v. a. To defend one's self by incantations, while going in the dark, in danger of wild beasts, &c. See கட்டு, v. செலவுக்குத்தன்னைக்கட்டும். It will be just sufficient for his expenses. தன்னைக்கட்டிநடக்கிறவன், appel. n. A frugal person, one who keeps within his income. தன்னைத்தாழ்த்த, inf. To humble or to abase one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தல், v. noun. Praising one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தலுந்தகும்புலவோர்க்கே. It becomes a poet to praise himself. தன்னையறிதல், v. noun. A girl becoming marriageable, பருவம்வாய்புறல். 2. Knowing one's self; i. e. knowing the power of the soul--as the ascetic, ஆ ன்மநிலையையுணர்தல். தன்னையறியாதசன்னதமில்லை. There is no want of self-possession; spoken of one supposed to be possessed by an evil spirit, yet retaining his conning. தன்னையறிந்தவன்தலைவனைஅறிவான். The beam is broken சாதந்தண்ணீர்விட்டுப்போயிற்று. The boiled rice has become watery. விடாக்காய்ச்சல்--விடாச்சுரம், s. A continued fever, a hectic. விடாச்சுரத்துக்குவிஷ்ணுகரந்தை.
