uraicu (p. 65) --உரைஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரை சினேன்--உரைஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரைச--உரைஞ் ச, (உரைஞ்சு, is a cor. of உரிஞ்சு,) v. n. To rub one's self against a thing, to rub as beasts against a post, &c., to chafe, உரிஞ. 2. To wear away by use--as the feet by walking, as a seat by sitting, &c., தேய. 3. v. a. To rub hard, scour, scrape, or scratch --as with the back of a nail, to brush, clean off, or waste away by rubbing, தேய்க்க. 4. To graze, gall, bruise by grazing, சீக்க. kiṇṭu (p. 109) கிறேன், கிண்டினேன், வேன்,கிண் ட, v. a. To dig, excavate, delve, hoe up, தோண்ட. 2. To make a pit, a hollow--as in the ground, a hole in a wall, &c., குழிதோ ண்ட. 3. To dig up; to dig out; to obtain by digging, கிளறியெடுக்க. 4. To poke, stir with a ladle; to scratch--as a fowl; pick or work up--as crows; burrow--as rats, &c.; to work up with a stick, an iron-bar, &c., கிளற. 5. (fig.) to probe, to scrutinize, to investigate, to inquire or pry into a matter; to search, to examine, ஆராய. 6. To gnaw--as worms on the body, as animalcula under the skin, &c., புழுமுதலியனகிண்ட. 7. To prompt, நினைப்பூட்ட. 8. To excite--as to a quarrel, &c., பகையெழுப்ப. கிண்டக்கிண்டக்கீரையும்மயிரும், The more you probe it, the more it is hair with the greens; i.e. the more insignificant. மண்கிண்டிவயிறுவளர்க்கிறவன். A husbandman, (diminutively) one who lives by digging. அம்பட்டன்குப்பையைக் கிண்டினால்மயிர்மயிராய்ப் புறப்படும். If you turn up the dung-hill of a barber, you will find only clippings of hair. கிண்டிக்கிண்டிக்கேட்க--விசேஷங்கிண் ட, inf. To inquire into a thing very minutely, to pump one, to ask inquisitively. கிண்டிக்கிளறிப்பார்க்க, inf. To dig out and search. 2. To make a thorough search, to make a thorough investigation. கிண்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To stir, to keep stirring--as the fire, the pap, &c. 2. (fig. To prompt. 3. To increase, to aggravate--as a quarrel. நீயவனைச்சற்றேகிண்டிக்கொடு. Prompt him a little. கிண்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To dig and look --as for yams, &c., 2. fig.) To tear, to pull or rend in pieces, to lacerate. கிழித்துமுடைந்தபாய், s. A mended mat. கிழிப்பு, v. noun. Rending, tearing, ripping, கிழிக்கை. கிழிமுறி, s. A mutilated indenture, bond, &c. 49)

kurngku (p. 124) s. [adjectively குரக்கு, in poetry.] A monkey, வானரம். 2. A climbing plant, முசுமுசுக்கை. 3. An animal in general--as குரங்கம், குராகம். குரங்கின்கைப்பூமாலை. A flower-garland in the hands of a monkey; i. e. a thing of value with one who knows not its use. குரங்குக்குந்தன்குட்டிபொன்குட்டி. Even to a monkey her young is as gold; i. e. one thinks highly of his own. குரங்குதன்குட்டியின்கையைக்கொண்டுபதம்பார்க்கி றதுபோலப்பார்க்கிறான். He tests it by another, as a monkey does a new object by the hand of her young. குரங்குமனம், s. A monkey-mind, retaining its grasp, notions, &c., without inquiry, or discrimination. குரக்குமுகம்--குரங்குமுகம்--குரங்கு மூஞ்சி, s. A monkey face. குரக்குவலி--கொறுக்குவலி, s. A kind of disease with which monkeys are commonly said to be affected. குரங்காட்டம், s. Apishness; apish tricks, antics, &c. 2. v. noun. Harassing, annoying, treating one as a mere monkey. குரங்காட்டமாட--குரங்காட்டங்கொள் ள--குரங்காட்டம்பண்ண, inf. To annoy, to treat one as a monkey. குரங்குகடியன், s. [prov.] A cocoanut, injured at the top, as if by a monkey, squirrel, &c., பழுதுற்றதேங்காய். குரங்குச்சம்பந்தம், s. The mode of a monkey's hold, grasp, &c., to which the hold of the soul on God is sometimes compared.--Note. The hold of a God on a soul is compared to that of a cat on its young. குரங்குச்சேட்டை--குரங்குச்சேஷ்டை, s. Mean, monkeyish tricks--as scratching and eyeing carefully; apish imitation. குரங்குச்சேட்டைபண்ண, inf. To play apish tricks; to act meanly; to mimic, in a low manner. குரங்குப்பிடி, s. A firm grasp--as that of a monkey. 2. Dogmatism in opinion, பிடிவாதம். 3. Urgency, importunity. குரங்குவலி, s. Numbness and pain in the limbs with shivering; a spasmodic affection, incident to puerperal women, ஓர்நோய். 26)

kōyil (p. 150) s. [com. கோவில்.] [ex கோ, et இல், abode.] A palace the residence of a nobleman. or a king, அரமனை. 2. A temple, sanctuary, church, chapel, ஆலயம். 3. A sacred shrine, the abode of a deity, கடவு ளிருக்குமிடம். 4. A metal casket enclosing the சிவலிங்கம், or phallic emblem worn about the person, இலிங்கசம்புடம். 5. A bag, &c., for sacred ashes, விபூதிசம்புடம். 6. [loc.] The pagoda at Chillumbrum, or that at Seringham, சிதம்பரசீரங்கஸ்தலம். 7. [prov.] A parish church, also a parish, கோயிற்பற்று. கோயிற்பூனைதேவருக்கஞ்சாது. The cat in the temple dreads no deity; i. e., too close an intimacy destroys veneration. கோயில்மாடுபோலே. Like a temple cow-spoken of indulged or idle young persons who have their own way, &c. கோயில்கொள்ள, inf. To take possession of a temple, a shrine or the heart-as a deity. (p.) கோயில்சுற்றிக்கும்பிட--கோயில்வலம் வர, inf. To pass round a temple to the right hand, out of homage to it. கோயில்சேவிக்க, inf. [loc.] To serve the temple daily--as musicians. கோயில்மணியகாரன், s. The purveyor or manager of a temple--often a hereditary office. Also கோயில்மணியம். கோயில்மாடு, s. Cows or bulls devoted to a temple. கோயில்வரவு--கோயில் வருமானம், s. The revenue of a temple. கோயிற்கணக்கு, s. Temple accounts. 2. [prov.] The parish registry. கோயிற்காணி--கோயில்மானியம், s. Temple lands. கோயில்குளத்துக்குப்போகாதவன். One who is neglectful of religious ceremonies. கோயிற்கிராமம், s. A village and lands belonging to a temple. கோயிற்படி, s. The daily allowance for the expenditure of a temple, of rice, &c., to the idol, Brahman, servants, &c. கோயிற்பற்று, s. [prov.] A parish, or districts belonging to a church. கோயிற்பிரகாரம், s. The court or enclosure of the temple; [ex பிரகாரம், enclosure.]. கோயிற்பிரதிட்டை, s. The conscration of a temple when the deity is supposed to be brought to take up his abode; [in Christian usage.] also the dedication of a church. கோயிற்புராணம், s. One of the five puranas concerning சிதம்பரம். கோயிற்பூனை, s. (fig.) A dissembler in religion. கோயின்மகமை, s. Free offering or gifts to a temple. See மகமை. கோயின்மேரை, s. (also கோயிற்குறுணி.) cṇppu (p. 157) s. [loc. vul.] Flax, hemp, as சணல். சணப்பநார், s. Fibres, or strings of flax. சணப்பன், s. A flax-dresser. சணப்பன்வீட்டுக்கோழிதானேவிலங்குமாட்டிக்கொ ண்டது. The hemp dresser's hen has entangled itself by scratching in the hemp-said of a person who involves himself in difficulties through his own folly. சணப்புத்திரி, s. A hempen wick or match. cirngku (p. 185) s. An eruption, ulcer; the ulcers, or scabs individually in the itch, &c., ஓர்புண். 2. Itch, சொறி. இரும்பெடுத்த கையுஞ் சிரங்குபிடித்த கையுஞ் சும் மா இராது. The hand armed with iron, or covered with itch, cannot be quiet. சிரங்கரிக்க, inf. To itch. சிரங்கள்ளிப்போட--சிரங்கள்ளிக்கொட் ட--சிரங்குவாரிப்போட, inf. [prov.] A kind of itch with large scabby ulcers. நமுட்டுச்சிரங்கு, s. Itch like prickly heat. ஆனைச்சிரங்கு, s. A kind of itch with very large blotches. See ஆனை. அரிசிரங்கு, s. See அரி, v. சொறிசிரங்கு, s. A small kind of itch causing very annoying sensations. சிறுசிரங்கு, s. Small eruptions on the skin. உமிச்சிரங்கு, s.
