intiriyam (p. 46) s. [contracted into இந்தியம்.] An organ of sense, or organ of the body, பொறி; [ex இந்திர, the soul or self, or what is with difficulty restrained by the soul.] There are three kinds of இந்திரியம், or sensual organs; viz.: those of perception, those of action and the intellectual organs. Wils. p. 133. INDRYA. I. ஞானேந்திரியம், the organs of sense or perception are five; viz.: 1. சக்கு, சட்சு or கண், the eye, the organ of sight having உருவம் or visible forms as its object. 2. சோத்திரம் or செவி, the ear, the organ of hearing, having சத்தம், (sound) as its object. 3. ஆக்கிராணம் or மூக்கு, the nose, the organ of smelling, having கந்தம், (odors) as its object. 4. சிங்குவை or நா, the tongue, the organ of tasting, having இரசம், (flavors) as its object. 5. தொக்கு or துவக்கு or உடம்பு, the surface of the body, the organ of feeling, having பரிசம், (touch or contact) as its object. II. கன்மேந்திரியம், or organs of actions are five; viz.: 1. வாக்கு, the mouth or organ of speech. 2. பாதம், the feet. 3. பாணி, the hands. 4. பாயுரு, the anus. 5. உபஸ்தம், the genitals. III. அந்தக்கரணம் or அந்தரிந்திரியம், the intellectual powers are four; viz.: 1. மனம், the organ of thought or perception, emotion. 2. புத்தி, understanding, conception, reason, intellect--the organs of examination, investigation, reflection, comparison, device, experiment. 3. ஆங்காரம், emotion, self-importance, inflation, presumption, energy, impulse, the organ of excitement, resolution, effort, &c. 4. சித்தம், volition, will, purpose, determination, that power of the mind which leads to the accomplishment of objects. 2. The sperm, seed of men, விந்து. இந்திரியகோசரம், s. Perceptibleness, capability of being determined by the senses, இந்திரியத்துக்குவிஷயமாகுகை. Wils. p. 132. INDRYAGOCHARA. இந்திரியக்காட்சி--இந்திரியப்பிரத் தியட்சம், s. Evidence of the senses. இந்திரியத்துவாரம், s. The inlets or avenues of the senses--as means of perception. இந்திரியநிக்கிரகம், s. The subjugation of the passions, இந்திரியமடக்குகை. இந்திரியநுகர்ச்சி, s. Enjoyment of sense, இந்திரியானுபவம். இந்திரியாசங்கம், s. iṟumā (p. 57) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be overjoyed, enraptured with spiritual delight, மிகமகிழ. 2. To be proud, self-conceited, vain, to be elated, puffed up, to exult in a feeling of self-importance, ஏமாக்க. 3. To sit erect, be erect, நிமிர்ந்திருக்க. என்றும்வீடடைந்தவரிறுமாப்ப. While those in bliss enjoy eternal delight. (வைராக்கியசதகம்.) இறுமாந்துநடக்க, inf. To walk or behave proudly. இறுமாந்துநிற்க, inf. To stand erectly or proudly. இறுமாந்துபோக, inf. Erect posture, நிமிர்ச்சி. இறுமாப்புக்கொள்ள, inf. To be come transported, over-joyed, proud, haughty, to grow arrogant. 27)

eṇṇm (p. 73) s. Thought, opinion, supposition, imagination, conception, &c., நினைப்பு. 2. Purpose, intention, design, object, determination, நோக்கம். 3. Estimation, estimate, conjecture, guess, surmise, மதிப்பு. 4. Arrogance, presumption, elation, இறுமாப்பு. 5. Hope, expectation, indulging fancy; fancied or prospective happiness, reverie, speculation, musing chimera, conceit, நம்பிக்கை. 6. Esteem, regard, deference, respect, credit, courtesy, decorum, awe, reverence, கனம். 7. Care, caution, vigilance, anxiety, solicitude, concern, விசாரம். 8. Deliberation, counsel, ஆ லோசனை. 9. Judgment, conviction, கருத்து. எண்ணமுற்றுரைக்கின். Were I to reckon and declare the number-- (நைட.) எண்ணியாரெண்ணமிழப்பர். The enemy who expected to conquer us will be disappointed. (குறள்.) தானென்கிறவெண்ணம்--நானென் கிறவெண்ணம், s. Self-conceit, self-importance. இன்னானென்கிறவெண்ணமவனுக்கில்லை. Rank of station with him is a matter of no consideration. எண்ணக்குறிப்பு, s. Motive, object, intention, design, நோக்கம். எண்ணங்குலைய, inf. To be perplexed in mind, மனங்கலங்க. 2. To be disconcerted in a plan, to be thwarted in one's expectation, எண்ணம்வீணாக. 3. To lose reputation, மதிப்புக்கெட. எண்ணங்கொண்டிருக்க, inf. To entertain hope. 2. To be anxious, to be in deep concern. 3. To intend, purpose. 4. To muse on, ponder. 5. To build castles in the air. எண்ணந்தப்ப, inf. To be disappointed, to prove incorrect--as an opinion, மதிப்புத்தவற. எண்ணத்தப்பு--எண்ணத்தவறு, s. Disrespect to a superior, அவமதிப்பு. 2. Disappointment, நம்பிக்கைக்கேடு. எண்ணப்பிசகு, s. Misapprehension, எண்ணத்தவறு. எண்ணமிட, inf. To think, reflect, consider. எண்ணர், s. The king's ministers or counsellors, மந்திரிகள். (p.) 40)

kṉ (p. 102) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To be heavy, to become heavy, massive, solid, thick, hard, injurated, பாரமா யிருக்க. 2. To be thick, close, crowded, numerous, பருக்க. 3. To be abundant, copious, to outweigh, &c., அதிகரிக்க; the infinitive used adverbially expresses very much. கனக்கக்கொடுத்தான். He gave plentifully. கனத்தஉடைமைக்கனர்த்தமில்லை. Solid property will not soon be injured. காரியங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The matter has become more serious. குற்றங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The crime is aggravated. குரல்கனத்துப்போயிற்று. The voice is become heavy, hoarse--as of one who has reached manhood, one who drinks liquor, &c. கனத்தஆக்கினை, s. Severe punishment. கனத்தகுடி, s. An illustrious and noble family. கனத்தசமுசாரம், s. A numerous family. கனத்ததோல், s. Thick skin--as that of a beast or of the hand, &c., hardened and thickened by labor. கனத்தநாள், s. A critical day in diseases--as the day of new or full moon, &c., when the influence of the planets is unusually powerful, aggravating disease, &c. On such days it is deemed improper to bathe, take medicine, &c. (c.). கனத்தபயிர், s. A thick crop. கனத்தபனி, s. A heavy dew. கனத்தமனிதன், s. A large heavy man. சரீரங்கனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To become heavy--as the body, by disease, humors, corpulency, &c. தலைகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To grow heavy--as the head through cold. வயிறுகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To have indigestion. 2. To eat a belly-full, to be well stuffed. 3. To become gravid; sometimes in this meaning, spoken in contempt, of pregnancy from illicit intercourse. கனப்பு, v. noun. [vul.] Thickness, becoming thick, கனம். 2. Weight, heaviness, solidity, gravidity, பாரம். 3. The hardness of a swelling, அழுத்தம். 4. stoutness, lustiness, grossness, கொழுப்பு. 5. Pride, self-importance, இறுமாப்பு. உன்கனப்பெடுத்துப்போடுவேன். I will reduce you. சரீரக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the body--as in plethora, &c. தலைக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness in the head. வயிற்றுக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the system from indigestion, constipation, &c. 29)

Inflation from pride; intoxication with vanity, wealth, office, &c., கர்வம். 3. Exultation, excessive joy, joviality, elation, களிப்பு. 4. Boldness, daring, mettle, intrepidity, frenzy, arrogance, audacity, presumption, temerity. rashness, wilfulness, ஆண்மை. 5. High hope, aspiration, sanguine expectation, மனோராச்சியம். (c.) அவன்செருக்குகுலைந்தது. His pride is brought down. செருக்கன்--செருக்குக்காரன், s. A wanton, vain, presumptuous person. செருக்காய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak proudly, to assume too much. செருக்காய்வளர்க்க, inf. To bring up in a delicate manner, செல்லமாய்வளர்க்க. செருக்குக்காட்ட, inf. To show pride, to be vain, self-important, self-conceited. செருக்குப்பண்ண, inf.. To act proudly, arrogantly, wantonly. படைச்செருக்கு, s. Daring intrepidity, high spirits, vaunting and bravado, &c., of the soldier. செருக்கடிக்க, inf. To vaunt with an inarticulate sound. (c.) பணச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of money. கல்விச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of learning. செல்வச்செருக்கு, s. Inflation of wealth. குடிச்செருக்கு, s. A vain conceit of high birth, குடிப்பிறப்பினாணவம். 66)

tṉ (p. 231) (oblique of தான். His, hers, its. தனது. (sing. gen. of தான்.) His, hers, its. தன்காரியம், s. One's pursuits, self-interest. தன்காரியப்புலி. One who cares only for himself, a self-interested person. தன்காலம், s. Its own appropriate season, time of a person's power, or prosperity; or the period when a thing prevails, as rain in the monsoon, தன் னுடையகாலம். தன்குலம்வெட்டி, appel. n. Destroyer of his own family, தனதுவமிசத்தைக்கெடுக் கிறவன். 2. (fig. as a riddle.) The handle of an axe, கோடரிக்காம்பு. தன்கொண்டி, s. Self-will, one's pleasure, without consulting subordinates. தன்படுவன், s. [prov.] Natural formation, as of salt, in distinction from artificial, விளையுப்பு. தன்பாடு, v. noun. Attending to one's own business, going on in one's own way. . He is going on quietly, without interfering with others. தன்பால், s. (com. தனிப்பால்.) Pure milk. 2. See பால். தன்பிடி, s. One's opinion, religious or other. 2. Religious confidence. தன்பொருட்டனுமானம், s. [in log.] Inference from experience or observation applied to one's benefit, as opposed to பிறர்பொருட்டனுமானம். தன்பொறுப்பு, v. noun. Personal responsibility. தன்மயம், s. His own nature, தற்சுபா வம். (P.) தன்மனம், s. Uncontrolled, at liberty. 2. Self-will--as தன்கொண்டி. தன்மூப்பு, v. noun. Youthful arrogance, forwardness, self-will, இறுமாப்பு. 2. His own master, தன்னிஷ்டம். தன்மூப்பானவன்--தன்மூப்பாய்நடக் கிறவன், appel. n. An assuming, arrogant youth; an upstart. 2. One who acts on his own responsibility. தன்மூப்புச்செலுத்த--தன்மூப்புப்பண் ண, inf. To act on one's own responsibility. தன்மேம்பாடு, v. noun. One's abilities, greatness, influence, தன்பெருமை. தன்மேம்பாட்டுரை, s. [a figure in rhetoric.] Declaration of one's greatness, abilities &c., ஓரலங்காரம், அஃது தற்பு கழ்ச்சி. தன்வசம், s. In one's power. (c.) தன்வசப்படுத்த, inf. To take under charge, to appropriate a thing to one's own use. தன்வயத்தனாதல், v. noun. Independence or self-existence--one of the eight attributes of God, கடவுளெண்கு ணத்தொன்று. (p.) தன்வழி, s. One's parentage, or ancestry, one's relations, தன்மரபோர். தன்வழிப்படுத்த, inf. To bring to one's party, interest or religion; to proselyte. 2. To connect another family with one's own, by marriage. தன்விருத்தி, s. One's own employment. 2. One's daily occupation. தன்வினை, s. One's innate depravity, தன்னிருதயத்தின்கேடு. 2. Evil actions as resulting in future sufferings, ஊழ்வினை. 3. [in gram.] The intransitive or neuter verb, as பிறவினை is active. தன்வினைதன்னைச்சுடும். One's own devices prove his ruin. தன்வேதனை, s. Self-experience, selfperception, self-knowledge, சுயபரீட்சை. (p.) தன்வேதனைக்காட்சி, s. Perception by experience, &c. See காட்சி. தன்னடக்கம், s. A country whose government is democratic or republican. தன்னரண்காத்தல், v. noun. One of the eight kinds of victory. See வெற்றி. தன்னவன், s. One nearly related or of the same party. தன்னறிவு, s. Consciousness, self-knowledge, சுயவறிவு. 2. Sobriety, recollection, self-possession, தன்னினைவு. 3. One's own knowledge, தனக்குரியவுணர்ச்சி. தன்னாணை, s. Free will, one's own choice, எதேச்சை. 2. Self-will, independence, தன்கொண்டி. 3. Freedom, liberation from slavery, ஆளப் படாமை. தன்னிரைமீட்டல், v. noun. One of the eight kinds of victory. See வெற்றி. தன்னிலை, s. One's proper standing, nature, or state, சுபாவநிலை. 2. Equilibrium of the proper state of the numerous parts of the system, சமனாய்நிற்கை. தன்னிறமாக்கி, appel. n. A kind of hornet or wasp hat changes a grub to its own likeness. தன்னிறம், s. The color of red ochre, கற்காவி. தன்னீங்கல், v. noun. Liberty. 2. Independence, தன்னிஷ்டம். 3. To defend one's self by incantations, while going in the dark, in danger of wild beasts, &c. See கட்டு, v. செலவுக்குத்தன்னைக்கட்டும். It will be just sufficient for his expenses. தன்னைக்கட்டிநடக்கிறவன், appel. n. A frugal person, one who keeps within his income. தன்னைத்தாழ்த்த, inf. To humble or to abase one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தல், v. noun. Praising one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தலுந்தகும்புலவோர்க்கே. It becomes a poet to praise himself. தன்னையறிதல், v. noun. A girl becoming marriageable, பருவம்வாய்புறல். 2. Knowing one's self; i. e. knowing the power of the soul--as the ascetic, ஆ ன்மநிலையையுணர்தல். தன்னையறியாதசன்னதமில்லை. There is no want of self-possession; spoken of one supposed to be possessed by an evil spirit, yet retaining his conning. தன்னையறிந்தவன்தலைவனைஅறிவான். To be choked, or stifled in the throat. நெஞ்சடைப்பு--நெஞ்சடைவாதம், s. Obstruction in the chest, ஓர்நோய். நெஞ்சழிதல், v. noun. Failing or being overwhelmed, as the heart with sorrow, or fear. 2. Loss of consciousness, through sorrow, fear, drunkenness, &c. 3. Being overcome with lust; losing self-control. நெஞ்சறிய, inf. [as an adverb.] Consciously. நெஞ்சறியப்பொய்சொல்லலாமோ. Can you knowingly lie? நெஞ்சறிவிளக்கம், s. A treatise. நெஞ்சன், s. [in combin.] A hard-hearted person. See கன்னெஞ்சகன், வன்னெஞ்சகன். 2. [prov.] A bold, daring person, துணி வுடையோன். 3. A person of self-importance, இடும்பன். நெஞ்சாங்கட்டை, s. The breast-bone, as நெஞ்செலும்பு. 2. A log placed across the breast of a corpse to prevent its rising while burning, பிணத்தின்நெஞ்சுக்கட் டை. 3. (fig.) A plot to destroy one, தூராலோசனை. இதுவுனக்குநெஞ்சாங்கட்டைக்கோ. You have put a stone in my breast, used in lamentation for the dead. நெஞ்சிலேதெண்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Affecting the breast--as wind, spasm, or cramp, நெஞ்சிற்றடுக்க. நெஞ்சிளைக்க, inf. To become fearful, timid, cowardly. நெஞ்சிற்பாரம், s. (fig.) Burden or weight of responsibility oppressing the heart. 2. Sorrow of heart. நெஞ்சுகரிப்பு--நெஞ்சுக்கரிப்பு, v. noun. A nausea in the throat. நெஞ்சுகாய, inf. To become dry, gnawing, &c., as the breast in disease, causing thirst, &c. 2. [prov.] To faint as the heart through sorrow, fear, &c. நெஞ்சுக்கட்டு-நெஞ்சுக்கோழை, s. Pectoral disease from phlegm, as asthma. நெஞ்சுக்குத்து--நெஞ்சுவலி, s. Pain in the chest. நெஞ்சுதட்ட, inf. To tap the breast in defiance, as a challenge. 2. To tap the breast with a boast of doing an exploit. நெஞ்சுதுடித்தல், v. noun. Throbbing of the heart from fear. 2. Sympathizing with one in affliction, பரிதாபப்படல். நெஞ்சுத்தடிமல், s. Catarrh seated in the breast, cold and cough. நெஞ்சுத்துணிகரம்--நெஞ்சுத்துணிவு, s. Boldness of heart, heroism, intrepidity. நெஞ்சுநெஞ்சென்றுகுத்துதல், v. noun. Striking the breast with the tips of the fingers, in bewailing the dead, &c. See மார்படித்தல். நெஞ்சுநோ, s. Pain in the breast. 2. (fig.) Grief of heart. நெஞ்சுபக்கிடுதல், v. noun. Being struck with sudden fear or sorrow. நெஞ்சுபதறுதல், v. noun. Fluttering of the heart at the sight of a distressed object, of unjust suffering in another, or of danger of injustice to one's self. நெஞ்சுபுண்ணாக--நெஞ்சம்புண்ணாக, inf. To be grieved, wounded at heart. நெஞ்சுப்பள்ளம், s. [prov.] Pit of the stomach. நெஞ்சுரம், s. Bold-heartedness. நெஞ்சுரப்பானவன், appel. n. A hardhearted man. See உரம். நெஞ்சுவறட்சி, s. Dryness of the chest when cough causes no expectoration. நெஞ்சுவிடுதூது, s. A poem in which the heart is personified as a messenger to a lover, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். 2. [fem. புண்ணியவாட்டி.] A man of high religious character. புண்ணியன், s. A righteous being, divine or human. 2. Siva, சிவன். 3. Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். புண்ணியாகவாசனம், s.
