otukku (p. 82) s. Shelter, screen, defence, refuge, covering. மறைவு. 2. A retreat, recess, place of refuge or shelter, a secluded or retired place, a hiding place, மறைவிடம். உம்முடைய ஒதுக்கிலே வந்தேன். I am come under your protection, I take refuge with you. ஒதுக்கிடம், s. A retreat, a shelter, a place of retirement, &c., புகலிடம். ஒதுக்குக்கடல், s. A harbor, கு டாக்கடல். ஒதுக்குக்குடில், s. Hut or hovel used as a dwelling. ஒதுக்குப்படல், s. A shed to screen cattle from the wind. ஒதுக்குப்பாடு, s. [prov.] Land enclosed by trees which, not being open to the wind, is liable to have the crops on it scorched and destroyed by the sun. See பாடு. ஒதுக்குப்புறம், s. [also impr. ஒதுப் புறம்.] The side of a building, hedge, tree, &c., as affording shelter from wind or rain. ஒதுக்குப்பொதுக்குப்பண்ண, inf. [prov.] To embezzle. 2. To conceal property by omitting to insert it in the inventory of a person sued for debt. ஒதுக்குவயல், s. A sequestered place in a paddy field behind the lodging hut for penning cattle, &c. நிலொதுக்கு, s. A shady place to resort to. 4)

Absolute deity, the matchless deity. தனிக்காட்டுராசா, s. A sole sovereign in a jungle. (c.) தனிக்காப்பு, s. An invocation, comprized in a single verse. தனிக்குடி, s. (also ஒன்றிக்குடி.) A solitary family. 2. One family of a caste, living among other castes. 3. Keeping house separately, as distinguished from living under the paternal roof. தனிக்குடை, s. The umbrella of an autocrat; (fig.) absolute sovereignty, தனியாசாட்சி. தனிக்குடைநிழற்ற. To spread the imperial umbrella, to govern. (p.) தனிக்குறில்--தனிக்குற்றெழுத்து, s. A single short consonant. தனிக்கோலான், s. He whose government is incomparable, the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. An independent sovereign. (p.) தனிச்சமையல், v. noun. Cooking for a single person, for one's self only, &c., தனிச்செய்கை, v. noun. Cultivating land alone, not jointly with others. தனிச்சொல், s. (Bab. Gram. p. 8.) A detached foot in வெண்பா and other verse, between two lines, தனிச்சீர். 2. A single or uncombined word. தனித்தனியே, adv. Individually, separately, each one singly, each alone. --Note. The ஏ is often added whether தனி be repeated or not--as தனியே. தனித்தாட்டன், s. [prov.] A large monkey that keeps distinct from, or goes before, the drove. தனித்தியலிடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. A specific name, including many individuals, or some varieties. தனித்தேட்டம், s. Amassing wealth alone, without the burden of a family. தனிநிலை, s. Solitariness, தனி்துநிற் கை. 2. (in gram.] The letter ஃ, ஆய்த வெழுத்்து. தனிப்பட, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be left alone, to be forseken. 2. To be solitary. 3. To be kept alone as witnesses and prisoners, or apart, detached--as persons, or animals. (c.) தனிப்படச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I will tell you in secret. தனிப்பட்டு, s. Earth, பூமி--This word is commonly used நட்டு in combination--as நட்டாறு, the midst of the river, நட்டுச்சி, exactly the meridian. நடக்கடல், s. The mid-sea. நடுக்கடல்போனாலும்மறுப்படாமல்வரக்கடவீர்..... Even though you go into the midst of the sea, may you return without harm. நடுக்கட்ட, inf. [prov.] [com. பொதுக் கட்ட.] To sequester property. நடுக்கட்டு, s. A girdle. See under கட்டு. நடுக்கண்டம், s. The central portion of a continent. 2. The middle piece. நடுக்காரர், s. [prov.] Arbitrators, judges, umpires. நடுக்கிளி, s. The head player in a square. See under கிளி. நடுக்குடி, s. A house-hold in the midst of others, as being safer than if alone. 2. A family of midding circumstances, rank, &c. 3. [prov.] The head-family of a tribe or class. நடுக்கேட்க, inf. To hear a case in law. 2. To refer a case for decision. நடுக்கொண்டவீடு, s. The words are ஆம், ஊம், ஓம், சிவாயநம, in which ஆம், is அடி, basis; ஊம், is நடு, middle; ஓம், is முடி, top; சி, is சிவம், formless deity; வா, is சத்தி, the female principle, obscuration. நடுநிலைமை, s. Mediocrity, middle circumstances in life. நடுநிற்றல், v. noun. Becoming bail or security for one. (not the law term.) 2. Being upright, impartial. நடுநீதி, s. Zenith, meridian. நடுராசி, s. Middling in quality, size, &c., moderate, நடுத்தரம். நடுவதுபாதி, s. That which is in the midst, intermediate. நடுவதுபாதியிலேவந்தான். He came after the beginning of an affair when half of it was over; he came last. நடுவத்தசாமம்--நடுவத்தொருசாமம், s. [prov.] Midnight. நடுவயது, s. Middle age. நடுவறுத்தல், v. noun. Judging, as an umpire, deciding, discerning, perceiving, comprehending, ascertaining, discussing a controversy. நடுவறுத்தான், appel. n. The name of a plant, மூக்குரட்டைக்கொடி, Boerhavia diffusa, L. நடுவழி--நடுப்பாதை, s. Mid-way. நடுவன், s. Yama, the god of death, awarder of rewards and punishments, இயமன். (p.) 2. [prov.] A judge, arbiter, awarder, நியாயாதிபதி. நடுவாந்தரம், s. Midst of a work, process, time, &c., intermediate, மத்தி. (c.) நடுவாந்தரத்திலேபோய்விட்டான். He died prematurely. நடுவிரல், s. The middle finger. நடுவிலவன், s. [prov. நடுவிலான்.] A middle brother. நடுவிலே. In the midst, amidst. நடுவின்மை, s. Partiality, injustice, நீதிஇல்லாமை. (p.) நடுவீடு, s. The middle or interior of the house where the idol is kept. 2. An obscene expression, used in the south. நடுவீடுபெருவழியாயிற்று. The very interior of the house is become a public road; i. e., the family is ruined. நடுவீட்டுக்குநாயகமாய்வந்தான். He has come to lord it over us. நடுவீதி, s. The midst of the street. நடுவெலும்பு, s. The back bone, the spine, முதுகெலும்பு. (c.) நடுவெளி, s. Midst of an open plain, space, &c., இடைவெளி. 2. Immensity of space, a filled by the deity, பரவெளி. நடுவெளிக்கமலபாதம், s.
