ceruppu (p. 205) s. a leathern sandal or slipper, a clog, பாதரட்சை. (c.) ஒற்றடிச்செருப்பு, s. (contraction of ஒற் றையடிச்செருப்பு) A slipper. கிறிச்சுச்செருப்பு, s. Creaking shoes. குத்திச்செருப்பு, s. Shoes with thick soles. தோற்செருப்பு, s. Shoes with thin soles. செருப்பாலடிக்க, inf. To beat one with a shoe; deemed very degrading. செருப்பாலடிகறுப்பாயிபிழைப்பிலே. An expression used to denote a servile and mean profession; (lit.) beat the life out of கறுப்பாயி (a Toty woman), with a shoe. செருப்புக்கட்ட, inf. To make a pair of shoes. (c.) செருப்புக்கட்டை, s. [prov.] Worn out shoes. செருப்புக்கால், s. A shod foot.--Note. Entering a house with shoes on is regarded impolite among the Hindus. செருப்பூசி, s. A shoe-maker's awl. செருப்புத்தின்னி, appel. n. [prov.] A sandal-gnawer--meaning a dog. (in abuse.) 2)

nantaṉ (p. 270) s. Nanda, foster father of Krishna, கண்ணன்தந்தை. 2. A son of மகா நந்தி, a prince, ஓரரசன். W. p. 453. NANDA. 3. The name of a shoe-maker who is reputed to have reigned as a king for three hours, and to have issued leather coin, அரசாண்டஓர்சக்கிலியன். நந்தன்தோற்காசுவழங்குகிறது. The leather coin of நந்தன் is current; said when a bad custom prevails. என்காரியமெல்லாம்நந்தன்படைவீடாய்ப்போயிற்று. My affairs are [ruined] like Nanda's camp. 6) *

pkṭai (p. 286) s. An ace upon a die, சூதி ன்றாயத்தில்ஒன்று. 2. A designation of the shoe-maker-caste, சக்கிலிச்சாதி. (Tel. usage.) 3. [prov. fig.] Sudden smiles of fortune, அதிஷ்டம். பகடைதப்பிற்று. It was narrow escape. பகடைபோட--பகடைஉருட்ட, inf. To cast an ace in dice. பகடையடிக்க, inf. To have lucky falls of dice, or smiles of fortune. 11)
