uṟiñcu (p. 67) கிறேன், உறிஞ்சினேன், வே ன், உறிஞ்ச, v. a. To sip, suck up, draw into the mouth (as hot liquids or as from spoons, &c.), வாய்க்குள்ளிழுக்க. 2. To snuff up, sniff, inhale forcibly through the nose, ஆக்கிராணிக்க. 3. (fig.) To imbibe, absorb as a spunge, as the earth does rain, &c., உள்ளேயிழுக்க. நன்குறிஞ்சிப்பேய்த்தனஞ்சுவைத்தார். Sucking well he has fed on the breast of a female vampire. (வேங்கட.) இந்த மருந்துபுண்ணிற்கள்ளத்தையுறிஞ்சியெடுத்துப் போடும். This medicament will absorb the noxious humors. மூக்கினாலுறிஞ்ச, inf. To snuff up any thing. மூக்குறிஞ்ச, inf. To snuff for the purpose of retaining the mucus. 77)

kattari (p. 92) s. A pair of scissors, shears, snuffers, &c., கத்தரிக்கோல். Wils. p. 196. KARTARI. 2. The brinjal, egg-plant, வழு துணை, Solanum melongena. 3. A species of snake, ஓர்பாம்பு. 4. The hot period from the twenty-third of சித்திரை, to the seventh of வைகாசி, அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம். This they call முன் னேழுபின்னேழுகத்தரி. There are some particular ceremonies performed at this season, during which the brahmans are allowed to indulge themselves in potions of sherbet. கத்தரிக்காய், s. Brinjal fruit, வழு துணங்காய். கத்தரிக்காயிலேகாலுங்கையும்முளைத்தாற்போலே. As the feet and hands sprang up in a brinjal; i. e. dwarfish. கத்தரிப்புழு, s. A small worm or insect in brinjals, ஓர்புழு. முட்டைக்கத்தரி, s. One of the species. கொத்துக்கத்தரி--நித்தக்கத்தரி, s. a plant, Solanum stramonifolium. நீலக்கத்தரி, s. A blue species of brinjal. காரற்கத்தரி, s. A plant, Solanum insanum, L. 6)

kttri (p. 92) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cut with a pair of scissors, shears, &c., to clip, snip, shear, nip, to snuff, கத்தரியால்வெட்ட. 2. To gnaw--as insects or vermin, to nibble off, புழுவரிக்க. 3. v. n. To differ--as opinions, எண்ணம்வேறு பட. 4. To flash as priming powder, to go out as a match, &c., an explosion, to miss fire, நெருப்புப்பற்றாமற்போக. எலிபுடவையைக்கத்தரித்துப்போட்டது. The rat has gnawed the cloth. கிளையிரண்டாய்க்கத்தரித்துப்போகின்றது. The branch is becoming forked, growing out forked at the end. கிளிகதிரைக்கத்தரித்துக்கொண்டுபோயிற்று. The parrots have clipped off the ears. நண்டுநெற்பயிரைக்கத்தரித்துப்போட்டது. The crabs have nibbled off the corn shoot. பாணங்கத்தரித்துப்போயிற்று. The rocket has missed fire. வழிகத்தரித்துப்போகிறது. The road diverges. காரியத்தைக்கத்தரிக்க, inf. To frustrate a matter by stratagem. காரியங்கத்தரித்துப்போயிற்று. The affair has become divided by a diversity of opinions. 7) *

kattarikai (p. 92) s. A pair of scissors, shears, snuffers, &c., commonly கத்தரிக் கோல். Wils. p. 196. KATARIKA. கத்தரிகைக்கால், s. The shanks of scissors, &c., கத்தரிக்கோலின்கால். 2. Beams, poles, &c., placed with one end on the ground and the other united at the top for lifting a weight, கத்தரிகைபோற் பிணைத்தகால். 3. The legs of a camp-table, chairs, &c., நாற்காலிமுதலியவற்றின்கால். கத்தரிகைப்பூட்டு, s. A jointure after the manner of scissors. 8)

She is a black dog; i.e. she is an ugly creature. கரிகறுக்க, inf. [vul.] To grow black, to become very dark, மிகக்கறுக்க. கரிகறுத்துப்போயிற்று. It is become as black as charcoal. கரிகறுத்தமுகம், s. A face as black as charcoal either naturally, or with rage. கரிக்கட்டி, s. A piece of charcoal. கரிக்கட்டை, s. A quenched firebrand. கரிக்காரன், s. A charcoal dealer. கரிக்காந்தல், s. [prov.] Particles of charred olas, rice husk and such-like thin substances, cinders of light bodies. See கரந்தல். கரிக்கிடங்கு, s. A pit or hole for burning charcoal. கரிக்குடல், s. [prov. vul.] The great gut, the rectum, மலக்குடல். கரிக்குருவி, s. A black bird greatly esteemed for its song, கஞ்சனம். It is said to peck crows and other large birds and to drive them away, Graceola religiosa. 2. A small black bird, ஓர்சிறுகுருவி. கரிக்கொள்ளி, s. A charred brand extinguished, குறைக்கொள்ளி. கரிக்கோடிடுதல், v. noun The appearing of soft hairs on the chin of young men. கரிச்சட்டி--கரிப்பானை, s. Begrimed, smutty pots. கரிச்சாம்பல், s. Black ashes, கறுத் தசாம்பல். கரிச்சுட, inf. To burn charcoal, to char, கரியுண்டாக்க. கரித்தண்ணீர், s. Water in which collied chatties have been washed. கரித்துண்டு--கரித்துணி, s. A dirty begrimed rag or cloth, கரிச்சீலை. கரிநெருப்பு, s. Fire made of charcoal, கரியிலுண்டானநெருப்பு. கரிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To be collied, be begrimed with soot, &c.--as a vessel on the fire, கரிப்பற்ற. கரிப்புரள, inf. To be collied, as clothes, &c. கரிப்புறத்திணை, s. Rules for explaining and proving a doctrine from the written and testimonies of the learned, சாட்சிப்புறத்திணை. கரிப்பூச, inf. To begrime with the smut of charcol. என்முகத்திலேகரிப்பூசிப்போட்டான். He has begrimed my face; i. e. brought a disgrace on me. கரிமருந்து, s. Powder used for fireworks, of which charcoal, is the essential ingredient, வெடிமருந்து. கரிமுண்டம், s. [vul.] A very dark person, lit. a lump of charcoal, மிகக்கறுத்த வன். 2. A hideous ghost mentioned to frighten children, கோரரூபி. கரிமுரடு, s. A quenched fire-brand. கரியல், s. [prov.] A tree or plant stinted and grown blackish, வளராமரம். கரியல்வடலி, s. [prov.] A young stinted palmyra having dried leaves on it, பனங்கருக்கு. 99)

cīṟu (p. 191) கிறேன், சீறினேன், வேன், சீற, v. n. To hiss--as a serpent, a cat, &c., பாம்புமுத லியனசீற. 2. To snort--as a horse, snuff, sniff, குதிரைமூச்செறிய. 3. To huff with anger, swell with rage; to foam--as a warrior; to breathe slaughter, மூர்க்கங்கொள் ள. 4. To roar, or hiss--as a flame, a rocket, &c., சீறியெரிய. 5. To rebuke, அதட் ட. cuṟīreṉl (p. 198) v. noun. Smarting excessively--as from the sting of wasp, snuff in the nose &c., கடுத்தல். 2. Hissing as water in contact with fire, சுறுசுறெனல். 3. [prov.] Being struck with fear for horror, அச்சுக்குறிப்பு. (c.) சுறீரென்றுமுள்ளுத்தைத்தது. A thorn penetrated quickly into the font. எறும்புச்சுறீரென்றுகடித்தது.
