aklu (p. 2) --அகல், கிறேன், அகன்றேன், வேன், அகல, v. n. To leave, yield to, retire from, நீங்க. 2. To prosper, increase, அதிகரிக்க. 3. To remove from, become distant, பிரிய. 4. To spread, widen, extend, பரவ. 5. To escape, get away, விலக; ex அகல், width. அகலநிற்றல். Standing afar off. அகலர், s. Low persons, out-casts, persons excluded from society, சண் டாளர். aṭu (p. 8) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [used with the accusative.] To approach, approximate, come in contact with, கிட்ட. 2. To be near, close, adjacent, proximate, to propinquate, சேர. 3. To adhere, unite with, apply for protection, சார. 4. v. n. (with dative.) To belong, pertain, relate to, be fit for, suitable to, deserving of, conformable to, becoming, உரித்தாக. 5. To happen, occur, சம்பவிக்க. எனக்கடுத்தவர்கள், The people associated with or belonging to me, out own people, kindred. அவள் இவனுக்கடுத்தபெண். She is a suitable woman for him. ஒரு சொல்லிரண்டுமூன்று நான்கெல்லை முறைய டுக்கும். The same word will be repeated twice, thrice, or four times. (Nun.) அடாதது, appel. n. That which is improper, unfit. அவனுன் வீட்டிலே வால் அடாது. It is bad for you to have him come to your house. அடாநிந்தை, s. Injustice, unfounded reproach. அடுகிடை--அடுகிடைபடுகிடை, v. noun. [prov.] Lying down at a person's house determined not to leave till the thing asked is obtained, எழும்பாக்கிடை. அடுக்க, inf. [used adv.] Near, near at hand. அடுத்தடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To reiterate. அடுத்ததண்டனை, s. Deserved punishment. அடுத்ததின்றன்மையான்மாவாகும். The associations of the soul determine its character. (In வீராகமம்.) அடுத்தவீடு, s. The next house. அடுத்தார், s. [in logic.] That which is of a different species, வித்தியாசமான வருக்கம். Wils. p. 4. ANYA. 4. The Indian cuckoo, குயில். அன்னியகுலம், s. A different tribe. அன்னியசாதி, s. A strange caste. 2. A low caste. அன்னியதாகர்த்தத்துவம், s. Government through subordinate agencies --one of the three prerogatives of the Supreme Being. அன்னியபுட்டம், s. aṉpu (p. 34) s. Love, affection, attachment, friendship, நேசம். 2. Grace, favor, kindness, tenderness, தயை. 3. Desire, complacency, ஆசை. அற்புத்தளை, s. The bond of love. (p.) அற்போருரு, s. Love embodied. (p.) அன்பகன், s. A good hearted man; [ex அகம், heart.] (p.) அன்பன், s. A husband, கணவன். (p.) 2. An associate, friend, beloved person, தோழன். 3. ayr (p. 22) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், அயர, v. a. To do, perform, execute, discharge duties, rites, &c., exercise, practise, செய்ய. In this meaning it seems commonly, associated with pleasant and gratifying sensations, as, விருந்தயர, to perform the rites of hospitality. 2. v. n. To faint, swoon, languish, தளர. 3. To lose the power of consciousness, as in faintness, drowsiness, sleep, &c., சோர. 4. To become weary, droop, இளைக்க. விளையாட்டயர்ந்தான். He has played. அவன்கண்ணயர்ந்ததைப்பார்த்து. Seeing him drowsy. (பஞ். 8.) அயரப்போட--அயரவிட, inf. To let rest for a better opportunity, as thieves, till persons are less on their guard, or as persons in a law suit. அயர்ந்தநித்திரை, s. Deep sleep, profound sleep. அயர்ச்சி, v. noun. Forgetfulness, மறதி. 2. Languor, faintness, spiritlessness, உணர்வழிவு. 3. Laziness, drowsiness, சோம்பு. 4. Weakness, பலவீனம். 5. aḷvḷāvu (p. 33) கிறேன், அளவளாவி னேன், வேன், அளவளாவ, v. n. To be very intimate, live sociably, converse freely, கலக்க. (p.) அளவளாதல்--அளவளாவல்--அள வளாவு--அளவளாவுதல், v. noun. Being very intimate, sociable, ஐக்கமாயிருத்தல். அளவளாவில்லாதான்வாழ்க்கை குளவளாக்கோடி ன்றிநீர் நிறைந்தற்று. The prosperity of the man who does not cultivate sociality with his friends, is like a tank full of water without banks. 24)

Interim, opportunity, con venient season, season, சமயம். 1. The full moon, பௌரணை. 11. A measure of length, breadth, thickness, &c., நீட்டலளவையிலொ ன்று. 12. One of the three நாடி, or passages for the breath--that through the left nostril, the lunar nerve or vessel, திரிநாடி யிலொன்று. 13. One of the (நாடி) nerves or arteries, தசநாடியிலொன்று. (See நாடி.) 14. (misused for எடை) Weight, gravity நிறை. (See சுழிமுனை, and பிங்கலை.) நல்லாரிடைப்புக்கு. Associating with the good. இடைகலை, s. The breath of the left nostril--as சந்திரகலை. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a living at the expense of others, not reducing one's own stock. (c.) இடையினவெதுகை, s. One of the இனவெதுகை--that in which the second letter of each line is any of the medial letters. இடையீடு, s. Obstacle, impediment, frustration, விக்கினம். 2. Equivalent, equilibrium, ஈடு. இடையூறு, s. Frustration, interruption, disappointment, obstruction, hinderance, mishap, casualty, contingence, misfortune, disaster, இடர். (c.) இடையெண், s. A poem increasing and decreasing like the waves of the sea, அம்போதரங்கத்தொன்று. இடையொடுகடைமடக்கு, s. A figure in Rhetoric, repetition of a word or phrase in the middle and end of a line with different meanings, மடக்கணியி லொன்று. இடைவழக்கு, s. [prov.] A suit at law instituted by a new claimant while the previous one is going forward, கிளை வழக்கு. இடைவழக்காளி, s. An intervening party in a law-suit. இடைவழி, s. Midway. இடைவள்ளல், s. A term common to the second of the three classes of kings famed for liberality. (p.) இடைவாய், s. The degrees marked upon a steel-yard. இடைவிட, inf. To intermit, suspend, interrupt, leave intermissions, interstices, &c. இடைவிட்டுவிட்டு. Every other one. இடைவிடாமழை, s. Incessant rain. இடைவிடாமல், neg. v. part. Incessantly, constantly, without intermission. இடைவெட்டுப்பணம், s. A clipped or imperfectly stamped coin, மாறுமத் திரைவிழுந்தபணம். 2. [prov.] Profit made indirectly, பொறுக்கியெடுத்தபணம். இடைவெட்டுப்பேச்சு, s. Derision, ridicule. இடைவெளி, s. An intervening space, நடுவெளி. எட்கிடை--எள்ளிடை, s. The thickness of a rape-seed. A companion, associate, partner, escort, protector, துணைவன். 5. Desire, இச்சை. 6. Women's hair, கூந்தல். இணையினெஞ்சமே. O! mind, debased beyond comparison. (வைராக்.) இறைகழலிணைமேவியவிமலர். Holy men who unite themselves to the feet of the Supreme Being. இணைக்கயல், s. A couple of carpfish, figures of which in gold, silver, &c., form one of the eight auspicious articles placed on special occasions as good omens, also as pleasing to the gods, அட் டமங்கலத்தொன்று. 2. One of the emblems of royalty, அரசசின்னத்தொன்று. இணைக்கல்லை, s. Two leaf-plates --as set before a religious mendicant or pandarum, while feeding him. இணைக்குப்போக, inf. [prop. இணை யாகப்போக.] To walk with another, to walk abreast. இணைக்குறளாசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of ஆசிரியப்பா, some of whose middle lines are shorter than the first or last line. இணைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting either of the kind of verses called வெண்பா and அகவல், or வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, in hundred verses and composed in accordance with the rule of அந்தாதி--one of the பிரபந்தம். இணைமுரண்டொடை, s. [in poetry.] A kind of ryhme where the first two feet in a line are opposed to each other either in word or meaning, ஓர்தொடை-as சீறடிப்பேரகலல்குல். இணைமோனைத்தொடை, s. A species of rhyme in which the first letters of each of the first two feet are the same. See தொடை. இணையசை, s. A compound metrical syllable, நிரையசை. இணையடி or கழலிணை, s. The two feet. இணையடிசூட, inf. To adorn, crown one's self with the feet (of the deity or guru) regarding them as flowers.--Note. To place the feet of another on one's head, is a figurative form for expressing great reverence, devotedness, respect, &c. இணையளபெடைத்தொடை, s. A verse in which the first letter of the first two feet is protracted. இணையிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To compare one thing with another. இணையியைபுத்தொடை, s. The repetition of the same letter in the last two feet of any line. See தொடை. இணையெதுகைத்தொடை, s. [in poetry.] The rhyming of the second letters of the first two feet in each line. இணையெழுத்து, s. A substituted letter, போலியெழுத்து. இணைவிழைச்சு, s. Unchastity, unchaste desire, கற்பில்லாமை. (நீதிநெறி.) 2. Sexual desires, காமம். (p.) கண்ணினை, s. A pair of eyes. 138)

iṉm (p. 57) s. Kindred, relations, connections, affinity, relationship, சுற்றம். 2. Class, kind, species, caste, sort, குலம். 3. Association (with persons), union, fellowship, சம்பந்தம். 4. A company, collective body, a society, association, கூட்டம். 5. Flock, herd, shoal, swarm, திரள். 6. Attendants of kings, royal household, அரசர்க் குறுதிச்சுற்றம். See உறுதிச்சுற்றம். இனக்கட்டு, s. Family ramifications, connections, உறவின்முறை. 2. Bond of union between relations, பந்துக்கட்டு. 3. Subordination, due respect, &c. among the several branches of a family, relative bonds, முறைமை. இனஞ்சனம்--இனத்தார்சனத்தார், s. Relations, kindred and connexions, சுற்றத்தார். இனமொழிவிடை, s. One of the five kinds of இறைபயப்பது--an indirect answer. இனமோனை, s. A rhyme where the letters which begin a line or foot are not the same as those of the next line or foot, but of the same class, இன வெழுத்தால்வருமோனை. If the letters are of the வல்லினம் class, the rhyme is called வல்லினமோனை; if of the மெல்லினம் class, the rhyme is மெல்லினமோனை; if of the இடையினம் class, the rhyme is இடையின மோனை. இனம்பிரிக்க, inf. To divide into classes. இனம்பிரிய, inf. To be separated from the company. இனவழி, s. Descent from the same line or ancestry. 2. Being related to the same breed of cattle. இனவெதுகை, s. A species of rhyme in which the second letters of each stanza are of the same class; it is of three kinds, வல்லினவெதுகை, மெல்லின வெதுகை and இடையினவெதுகை. இனவெழுத்து, s. Relative letters --as the hard letters are to their respective nasals, or vice versa; also letters formed from the same sources which in the consonants run in couplets through the alphabet, and the long vowels to the short, and vice versa, இன மாயுள்ளவெழுத்துக்கள். பாவினம், s. The three classes of poems which partake of the nature of each of the four out of five classes of poems called, தாழிசை, துறைவிருத்தம். 1. Those that have some of the properties of வெண்பா are வெண்டாழிசை or வெள்ளொத் தாழிசை, வெண்டுறை and வெளிவிருத்தம். 2. Those of ஆசிரியம் are ஆசிரியத்தாழிசை, ஆசிரி யத்துறை and ஆசிரியவிருத்தம். 3. Those of கலிப்பா are கலித்தாழிசை, கலித்துறை and கலி விருத்தம். 4. Those of வஞ்சிப்பா are வஞ் சித்தாழிசை, வஞ்சித்துறை and வஞ்சிவிருத்தம். மூவினம், s.
