ayr (p. 22) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், அயர, v. a. To do, perform, execute, discharge duties, rites, &c., exercise, practise, செய்ய. In this meaning it seems commonly, associated with pleasant and gratifying sensations, as, விருந்தயர, to perform the rites of hospitality. 2. v. n. To faint, swoon, languish, தளர. 3. To lose the power of consciousness, as in faintness, drowsiness, sleep, &c., சோர. 4. To become weary, droop, இளைக்க. விளையாட்டயர்ந்தான். He has played. அவன்கண்ணயர்ந்ததைப்பார்த்து. Seeing him drowsy. (பஞ். 8.) அயரப்போட--அயரவிட, inf. To let rest for a better opportunity, as thieves, till persons are less on their guard, or as persons in a law suit. அயர்ந்தநித்திரை, s. Deep sleep, profound sleep. அயர்ச்சி, v. noun. Forgetfulness, மறதி. 2. Languor, faintness, spiritlessness, உணர்வழிவு. 3. Laziness, drowsiness, சோம்பு. 4. Weakness, பலவீனம். 5. kiẕi (p. 111) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To part, to be slit, rent in shreds, or torn; to be parted --as land by ploughing, &c., துண்டாகக்கிழிய. 2. To part asunder, to separate, இரண்டாக க்கிழிய. 3. To be defeated, to be disappointed, to meet with ill success, to come to nothing, வாயாதுகெட. காரியங்கிழிந்துபோயிற்று--கிழிகிழிந்துபோயிற்று.... The affair is come to nothing. 2. He turns out to be nothing. அவர்கிழிந்தார். He is disconcerted; i.e. can do nothing. (Abusive.) கிழிந்துபோக, inf. To be rent or torn; to go in pieces. கிழிவு, v. noun. A rent, tear, laceration, கிழிதல். 2. Failure; incompetency, ill success, dwindling away, வாயாமை. (The word is sometimes synonymous with இழிவு.) கிழியல், v. noun. Tearing, கிழிவு. 2. s. A thing torn; a tattered garment, &c., கிழிந் தசீலை. 3. A good-for-nothing fellow; a spiritless sluggard--in contempt, பயனற் றவன். 48)

coṟi (p. 212) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To itch, tingle, as severe itching, நமை யுண்டாக. 2. v. a. To scratch in order to allay itching, சுறண்ட. 3. (fig.) To crave, solicit meanly, கெஞ்சிக்கேட்க. (c.) சொறிகட்டை, s. [prov.] A rubbing stone or post, for cattle. சொறிகட்டையானவன், appel. n. A mean, spiritless person; (lit.) a rubbing post. சொறிகரப்பன், s. Scurf that causes intense itching. சொறிசிரங்கு, s. Small itch. See சிர ங்கு. சொறிந்துகொடுக்க, inf. To urge, incite, pat. சொறிந்துகொண்டிராமல்சுறுக்காகச்செய். Do not scratch over it, but do it quickly. சொறிந்துதேயாதஎண்ணெயும் பரிந்திடாதசோறும் பாழ். Oil not well rubbed in, and rice given without kindness, are lost. சொறிவு, v. noun. cōmpu (p. 212) கிறேன், சோம்பினேன், வேன், சோம்ப, v. n. To be lethargic, apathetic, dull, மடிவாக. 2. To be idle, lazy, indolent, slow, loitering, sluggish, dilatory, தாமதிக்க. 3. To be sleepy, drowsy, heavy, உறங்க. 4. To droop, fail, fade, &c., as persons or plants, வாட. 5. To be cast down, dejected --as the countenance, or mind; to be dispirited, சோர. Last night my sleep was disturbed. அவனுக்கிப்பொழுதுதான்தூக்கந்தெளிந்தது. He has just awaked from sleep. தூக்கக்கலக்கம்--தூக்கமயக்கம், s. Sleepiness. (c.) தூக்கங்கொள்ள, inf. To give opportunity to sleep--as a disease in time of convalescence. 2. To faint or become dull --as a person in the height of disease. காற்றுத்தூக்கங்கொள்ளுகின்றது. The wind is dying away. தூக்கம்பிடிக்க, inf. To be drowsy, to be afflicted with sleepiness. தூக்கம்விட, inf. To put up hangings, curtains, festoons, &c., to make ornamental hanging work in metal, masonry, carving, &c., 2. To rouse from sleep, swooning, &c., to revive. 7)

pẕcu (p. 302) --பழைசு, s. That which is old, injured, decayed or demaged by time, நாட்பட்டது. 2. That which is stale, vapid, spiritless, by keeping, சாரமற்றது. (c.) பழசாக, inf.
