Washermen, வண்ணார்; [ex கொல், killing; i. e. expelling moisture.] ஈரஞ்சுவற, inf. To be imbibed or absorbed--as water in the sand, or moisture in the head after bathing, &c., ஈரமுலர. ஈரநாவு, s. A slanderous tongue. ஈரநாவுக்கெலும்பில்லை. There is no bone in the tongue of a slanderer. ஈரந்துவட்டல், v. noun. Rubbing off moisture from the head and body after bathing. ஈரப்பசுமை--ஈரப்பசை, s. Recoiling of the legs in stepping into the compound or house of a stranger. 3. Having spasms in the arms, and legs --as in cholera. கால்சீக்க, inf. To root out, exterminate, வேரோடுகளைய. 2. To become weak in the limps, by walking, sickness, age, &c. கால்தோல்--காற்றோல் s. [prov.] Leathern defences for toddy-drawers feet in climbing, மரமேறுவோர் காலிலிடுந்தோல். கால்நகம்--கானகம் s. Toe-nail. கால்நடை--கானடை. v. noun. Walking, going on foot--as distinct from riding and driving. 2. s. Sheep and goats; oxen, cattle, ஆடுமாடுகள் அவனுக்குமாட்டில் நூறுகால்நடையுண்டு. He has no-hundred oxen. கால்நடையாய், adv. On foot, a-foot. கால்நடையாய்ப் பிரயாணம்போக, inf. To travel on foot. கால்நோக்கு--கானோக்கு s. One-fourth aspect of a planet, being one of the four aspects. கால்பாவவில்லை. The feet do not seek the ground--recoiling from going. கால்பிடிக்க, inf. To fall at one's feet to ask a favor. 2. To press and rub the legs in order to induce sleep, to shampoo. கால்பின்னிக்கொண்டுநிற்க, inf. To stand cross-legged. கால்பின்னிக்கொள்ள--காலோடேகால் பின்னிக்கொள்ள, inf. To lose the power of walking, legs being crossed. கால்மட்டம், s. [prov.] Use of the feet in walking, by guess or practice--as in the dark or as a blind man. கால்மாடு, s. A halting or hobbling leg. கிந்துகாலன், s. A hobbler. கீற்றரைக்கால், The contracted form of உ, marked thus ,-- as து, நு. கீற்றுக்கால், The contracted form of ஊ, marked thus --as தூ, நூ. See under கீற்று. குதிகால்--குதிங்கால் s. Heel. குந்துகாலன், (fem. குந்துகாலி.) A hobbler, a limping person. 2. A Squatter, a man sitting on the his knees. குந்துகால், s. Tip-toe. 2. Squat, sitting on the heels--as a man. கொம்புக்கால், s. The two signs for ஒ marked thus ெ-ா, as in கொ,சொ,. தோரணக்கால், s. Poles to which strings or ropes adorned with twigs or leaves are tied, to represent triumphal arches. நாற்காலி, s. Chair. பகுதிக்கால், s. The sign of உ, in certain compound characters marked thus --as சு, பு. பகுதிக்காற்பிறை, s. The sign of ஊ, marked --as பூ, யூ. பவளக்காலி, s. The name of a bird, Erythropus longipes, corallinus. பின்னங்கால், s. Hind leg. புள்ளிக்கால், s. The character ள subjoined to the letter உ, to lengthen it. புறங்கால், s. The upper part of the foot, instep. பொய்க்கால், s. A stilt, a false leg-as a wooden one. பொய்க்கால் கட்டியாட, inf. To go upon stilts. மடிப்பங்கால், s. Legs with folded knees. மடிப்பங்கால்போட. inf. To sit upon the hams with folded knees. மரக்கால், s. Crutches. 2. A wooden leg. 3. [ex கால், a measure.] An instrument of dry-measure. முக்காலி, s. Tripod. முக்கால், s. kuṭam (p. 116) s. A large kind of earthen pot, கும்பம். 2. A sign of the zodiac; Aquarius, கும்பவிராசி. Wils. p. 226. KUT'A. 3. Sugar, jaggery, molasses, சருக்கரை. 4. A globular or round part of a pillar, a cylindrical body, திரட்சி. Wils. p. 29. GUD'A. எண்ணெய்க்குடமும்வெறுங்குடமும்முட்டினாலெ தற்குச்சேதம். If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s. A full water-pot; very good parts; a capable head. குடமூக்கு, s. The town of Combaconum, See கும்பகோணம். குடமூத, inf. To make a sound by blowing into pots, with dancing or jumping--as low-caste women at marriages and in some places at a temple, குடத் தினுள்ளூதியொலிபிறப்பிக்க. குடம்விட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. [prop.] To decorate the marriage pole with stiffened cloth, so as to resemble pots placed one on another. குடமுழா, s. A kind of drum made of a pot, முழவு. குடமல்லிகை, s. A kind of jasmine, ஓர் மல்லிகை, Jasminum sambac, L. Arabian jasmine. See மல்லிகை. குடமுருட்டி, s. A branch of the Kavery, ஓர் ஆறு. குடச்சிப்பி, s. A round shell or conch. குடவுழுந்தர், s. The name of a celebrated poet who, in his youth, was as long in getting a lesson as it required to fill a pot with lentils, உழுந்து, one at a time, ஓர்புலவன், குடவெழுத்தாணி, s. An iron-style with knobs or balls at the top, one above another, tapering to a point. குடம்வைத்தல், v. noun. Playing with the fists one on another, and knocking off the upper in succession, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குடமண், s. White sand, வெண் மணல். (M. Dic.) 26)

kūtl (p. 133) s. [prop. கூதிர். in Madras, ஊதல்.] Cold as felt--the effect in distinction from its cause, குளிர். 2. Chills before an intermittent fever, காய்ச்சற்குளிர். அறநனைந்தவருக்குக்கூதலென்ன. No cold to them that are completely wet; i. e. no fear or shame to the desperately wicked. கூதல்விறைக்க, inf. To stiffen with cold--hyperbolically, for very cold. கூதற்காய, inf. tīṟṟu (p. 244) கிறேன், தீற்றினேன், வேன், தீற்ற, v. a. [vul. தீத்து.] To feed with the hand, to insert by small mouthfuls, ஊட்ட. 2. To put on an outer coat of morter or clay, to clay, also to rub and polish, plaster, மெழு க. 3. To insert mortar or clay in hole or crevice, வெடிப்புமாற்ற. 4. To rub and smooth the folds of cloth after folding, சங் காட. 5. To glue or stiffen a strong cord, &c., with glue, &c, to prevent its untwisting, to smooth it, &c., கயிறுதீற்ற. 6. neṟi (p. 281) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To stand erect, to become stiff, to bristle, செவ்வேநிற்க. 2. To lower, to be raised, as the eye-brows in anger, &c., புருவம்நெளிக்க. 3. To be curled in ringlets, as the long hair of some women, மயிர்சுருள. 4. v. a. க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க. To frown, to turn up the nose in displeasure, கோபத்துடன்பார்க்க. 5. pā (p. 305) s. Web or warp of a weaver, நெச வுபா. See பாவு. 2. Verse, poetry, poesy as பாட்டு, கவி, யாப்பு. &c. 3. A class of verse embracing five varieties, compared to the four castes, and formerly appropriated to them respectively, and one of a mixed form. 1. வெண்பா, the best, or sacerdotal verse, composed of வெண்சீர் or இயற்சீர் feet, or of both arranged in the வெண்டளை mode. See வெண்பா. also Bab. Gram. p. 79. 2. அகவற்பா or ஆசிரியப்பா, the princely or royal verse formed chiefly of இயற்சீர், and the connexion called ஆசிரி யத்தளை. See ஆசிரியம். 3. கலிப்பா, the mercantile or chetty verse, admitting the வெண்சீர் feet, also two of the இயற்சீர், and two வஞ்சிச்சீர். See கலிப்பா. 4. வஞ்சிப்பா, the agricultural, of வஞ்சிச்சீர் but admitting all the others. 5. மருட்பா, in which வெண்பா and ஆசிரியப்பா are intermingled. The stanza begins with two lines of வெண்பா, and the remainder, not limited, is of the ஆசிரியப்பா.-Note. The first four of the above have each three subdivisions, (called பாலினம்.) viz: தாழிசை, துறை and விருத்தம், to the names of which respectively, the general term, or a contraction, is prefixed, thus. muṟai (p. 359) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [com. for. விறை.] To become stiff, hard, to stiffen or prick up the ears, as a horse, நெறிக்க. 2. (fig.) To be haughty. செருப்புநனைந்துகாய்ந்துமுறைத்துக்கொண்டது............ The slipper has become stiff from having been wet. அவன்முறைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான்........He is obstinate. முறைத்துப்பார்க்க, inf.
