iḷku (p. 55) கிறது, இளகினது, ம், இளக, v. n. [prov.] To relax, abate, become pliable, flexible, to lessen in intensity or severity--as wind, rain, sun-shine, fever, &c., தணிய. 2. To become tender, indulgent, mild, yielding, placable, to relax in ardor, application, &c., நெகிழ. 3. To grow moist --as goods, &c. in rainy weather, to soften--as heated iron or other metals, to dissolve a little, be reduced in hardness, &c., to deliquesce, soak through--as tiles, கரைய. 4. To become relaxed--as a bowstring, to become loose--as screws, &c., தளர. இளகாதவன், s. A hard-hearted, inexorable person. இளகிக்காண, inf. To become limber, soft, loose, pliant, lubricous, &c., நெகிழ. 2. To appear less strict, rigid, &c.--as the mind; to become less tense. இளகினபொன், s. Soft or pure gold that easily melts, &c., the prefix is alike applicable to other metals. இளகினமனசு, s. A feeling, kind heart. 49)

utayam (p. 59) s. Rising of the sun and planets, the appearance of a heavenly body above the horizon, கிரகத்தோற்றம். 2. The time of the rising of a heavenly body, உதிக்குங்காலம். 3. Birth, origin, appearance, பிறப்பு. Wils. p. 146. UDAYA. 4. The mountain behind which the sun, moon, &c. are supposed to rise, உதயகிரி. 5. [in astrology.] The ascending or rising sign, உதயவிராசி. 6. kḷḷm (p. 101) s. Guile, treachery, deception, imposition, dissimulation, insidiousness, roguery, villany, knavery, turpitude, spuriousness, counterfeitness, perfidy, depravity, வஞ்சகம். 2. Stealing, robbery, fraud, embezzlement, shuffling, tricking, cheating, circumvention, intrigue, களவு. 3. Lying, falsehood, பொய். 4. Fault, crime, guilt, defect, blemish, குற்றம். 5. Morbid matter concealed in a boil, or lodged in the system and causing irritation, புண்ணினுட் கள்ளம். 6. Unlawful, illicit acts, slyness, trickishness, sinister views, under-hand way of doing things, covert, கபடம். கள்ளவெயிலுங்கள்ளமழையும். Alternate rain and sun-shine when neither can be relied on. கள்ளஒப்பம், s. A forged signature. கள்ளக்கடை, s. A shop or bazaar for the reception of stolen goods. கள்ளக்கப்பல், s. A piratical vessel, திருட்டுக்கப்பல். கள்ளக்கப்பற்காரன், s. A pirate. கள்ளக்கயிறு, s. A kind of double string for opening and closing a book or purse. கள்ளக்கவறு, s. False dice, கள்ளச் சூதாடுகருவி. கள்ளக்கவி, s. Flagrant plagiary, சோரகவி. கள்ளக்காசு--கள்ளநாணயம்--கள் ளப்பணம், s. Base or counterfeit coin, செல்லாக்காசு. கள்ளக்காய்பட, inf. To fail as fruits in the process of ripening by smoke. கள்ளக்கிடை, v. noun. Lying deceptively, shamming sickness, sleep, or death, வஞ்சனையாகப்படுத்திருக்கை. கள்ளக்குணம், s. A false, insidious, deceptive disposition, திருட்டுக்குணம். 2. Insidiousness in boils, diseases, &c., deceptiveness, changeableness in weather, wind, the sea, &c., கள்ளத்தோற்றம். 3. Tricks, vices, &c., in beasts, கபட்டுக் குணம். கள்ளக்கையெழுத்து, s. A false signature, a forgery. கள்ளச்சத்தியம், s. A false oath, perjury. கள்ளச்சரக்கு, s. Smuggled or contraband goods. கள்ளச்சாதி, s. The Kallar tribe, a caste in South India. கள்ளச்சி, s. [prop. கள்ளி.] A female thief, திருடி. கள்ளச்சீட்டு, s. A forged bond, note, draught, &c. கள்ளச்சொல், s. Lie, falsehood, பொய். 2. Pretence, pretext, திருட்டுப் பேச்சு. கள்ளஞானம், s. Hypocrisy, in religion. கள்ளஞ்செய்ய, inf. To commit fraud, to embezzle, களவுசெய்ய. கள்ளத்தனம், s. Cunning, craftiness. கள்ளத்திறவுகோல், s. A false key, a picklock. கள்ளத்தீன், s. Sweet-meat, cakes, &c., eaten by stealth instead of regular food, திருட்டுணவு. கள்ளத்துறை, s. Ports where exports and imports are prohibited, ஆயத் துறைக்குமாறாயதுறை. கள்ளத்தோணி, s. A kind of dhoney, sailing to different places from Point Calimere, &c.; this species of boat is so called because formerly employed in robbing the pearl banks. கள்ளநடத்தை, s. Illicit intercourse of the sexes. கள்ளநீர், s. Morbid humor in the body preventing the healing of ulcers, &c., புண்ணில்வடியுநீர். கள்ளநேரம், s. Irregular seasons for doing things, seasons for illicit acts when detection may not occur. 2. A little before daylight, தூங்குநேரம். கள்ளப்பசி, s. Deceptive feelings of hunger. கள்ளப்பாடம், s. Lessons omitted, slipped over, &c., being unlearnt, deceiving the master. கள்ளப்பார்வை, v. noun. Thievish, designing looks. 2. Sly looks of lovers, or libidinous persons, அன்பினானோக்குநோக் கம். கள்ளப்பிள்ளை, s. An illegitimate child, a bastard, சோரத்திற்பெற்றபிள்ளை. கள்ளப்புணர்ச்சி, s. Illicit intercourse of the sexes. கள்ளப்புத்தி, s. Deceitful sagacity, cunning. கள்ளப்புருஷன், s. A paramour, a gallant, சோரநாயகன். கள்ளப்பெண்சாதி--கள்ளஸ்திரி, s. A concubine. கள்ளப்பேச்சு, s. Insincere expressions, false assurances. கள்ளமயிர், s. False hair. கள்ளமயிர்த்தொப்பி, s. A wig. கள்ளமனம், s. Deceitful mind. கள்ளமாடு, s. Cattle that intrude and graze by stealth, a cow or bullock prone to stray, or to be mischievous, திரு ட்டுமாடு. 2. An ox that refuses to work, கரவுள்ளமாடு. 3. Stolen cattle, திருடினமாடு. கள்ளமார்க்கம், s. False religion. 2. A sally port. கள்ளமுத்திரை, s. A false stamp, திருட்டுமுத்திரை. கள்ளம்பண்ண, inf. To be idle in work, to be dull, slow, &c.--as a beast in the absence of the whip. 2. To play truant. 3. To work deceptively, to use alloy, cheat, act the rogue, dissemble, sham, pretend. கள்ளவறை, s. A concealed room which no one would suspect, பிறர்காணக் கூடாதஅறை. கள்ளவாசாரம், s. Mock modesty, feigned politeness, திருட்டாசாரம். கள்ளவாயில், s. A trap-door, கள் ளவழி. கள்ளவொழுக்கம், s. Hypocrisy, dissimulation, திருட்டுநடத்தை. கள்ளன், s. (plu. கள்ளர், fem. கள் ளி.) Thief, robber, rogue, vagabond, villain, knave, criminal, felon, depredator, திருடன். 2. One of the Kallar tribe, கள்ளச்சாதியான். கள்ளர்பற்று, s. The district of the Kallars. வேசிக்கள்ளர், s. Whore-mongers. ஆசாரக்கள்ளர், s. Persons insincere, incomplaisant. 2. Hypocrites in religion. திருநீறுகுழைக்குங்கள்ளர். Those who put on appearances of piety. கும்பிடுகள்ளர்--தொழுகள்ளர், s. Hypocrites, those insincere in religion, or in courtesy. அழுகள்ளர், s. Weeping rogues, dissimulators, impostors. மாசாலக்கள்ளி, s. A dissimulating, unfaithful woman. 9)

சந்தி
canti (p. 159) s. A joining, junction, meeting, union, combination, இசைப்பு. 2. The meeting or junction of two or more roads, rivers, &c., or the place of such meeting, சந்திக்குமிடம். 3. The joining of words, and the changes of letters by elision, reduplication, and substitution in the coalescence of words with each other, or in the addition to a word of particles expressing case, or in the formation of derivatives from a primitive, விகுதிமுதலிய வற்றின்புணர்ச்சி. 4. The intervals of morning and evening twilight, especially the latter, regarded as the union of the day and night, மாலைநேரம்; thus அந்திசந்தி, morning and evening. (c.) 5. A period at the expiration of each yuga, connecting it with the following, and occupying 1/12 of each, during which a gradual change takes place in the world, introductory to the peculiarities of the succeeding yuga; also a period of the same length, as the Satya yuga at the end of each Manvantara and of each Kalpa, யுகசந்தி. W. p. 889. SANDHI. 6. Reconciliation, pacification, forming friendship, நட்பாதல். 7. The bamboo, so called from its knots, மூங்கில். 8. The stated worship for each individual, morning and evening, and with some in mid-day, சந்தியாவந்தனம். (p.) 9. Division of time in a day, especially meal time--as ஒருசந்தி, one meal, it being fast-day. (c.) 1. [loc.] Juncture, crisis, a critical point of time, தறுவாய். சந்திகாவலன், s. [prov.] As அந்திகாவ லன், which see. சந்திக்கரை, s. The place where several roads or rivers meet. (c.) சந்திபண்ண--சந்திமுடிக்க, inf. To perform he daily private worship, morning, noon and evening. (p.) சந்திப்பாடு, v. noun. A mishap supposed to be caused by a malignant spirit in a cross way, or other haunted place. சந்திமறிக்க, inf. [loc.] to avert the displeasure of malignant divinities, in time of epidemics, by presenting them cooling offerings at cross roads, and thus to stop their progress into the country. சந்திமிதிக்க, inf. [prov.] To pass across way at an auspicious time, as after recovering from sickness, especially from the small pox, on first going out. சந்திமிதிப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a child to walk the first time on the 6th month in places where two or more ways meet. சந்தியாகாலம், s. The period of evening twilight, மாலைநேரம். 2. The three seasons of stated worship. (See சந்தி.) 3. The interval between one yuga and another, யுகசந்தி; [ex Sa. Sandhya.] W. p. 89. சந்தியாகாலகருமம், s. Evening devotion. (R.) சந்தியாராகம், s. The redness of the sky at sun-set. (R.) சந்தியாவந்தனம்--சந்தியாவந்தனை, s. [prov. சந்திவந்தனை.] Worship at any of the three stated periods; [ex வந்தனை, worship.] சந்தியிலிருக்க, inf. [prov.] To be ruined, to be driven into the street. சந்தியில்வைக்க, inf. To ruin a person, (lit.) to drive him into the streets. சந்திவிக்கிரகம், s. Forming a friendship with enemies to compass their ruin; one of the modes recommended for dealing with enemies. (p.) சந்தியிற்கொண்டுவர, inf. [prov. fig.] To expose a person to ridicule and shame (lit.) to bring to the street. முச்சந்தி, s. The meeting of three roads. நாற்சந்தி, s. The meeting of four roads or streets. சொற்சந்தி, s. One word combining with another in sense. சந்திவழு, s. Impropriety in the use of grammatical sandhi. The three grammatical sandhis as applied to words of Sanscrit origin are, 1. தீர்க்கசந்தி. 2. குண சந்தி. 3. விருத்திசந்தி. To these a fourth, ஆ திவிருத்திசந்தி is added. (நன்.) சந்திகாரியம், s. Making a treaty of peace. (R.) 95)

cāyam (p. 177) s. [always in combination.] Evening, afternoon, சாயங்காலம். W. p. 92. SAYAM. 2. (c.) Color, tinge, tint, hue in cloth, leather, paper, &c., நிறம்; [ex Sa. Ch'haya, lustre, color.] 3. The chaya root used as a dye, சாயவேர். சாயங்காலம், s. Evening just before sunset, the close of day, அந்திப்பொழுது. சாயங்காலவந்தனை, s. Evening devotion. (R.) சாயசந்தி, s. Evening twilight. சாயந்தரம், s. [vul.] Evening, close of day, afternoon. சாயரட்சை, s. [prov.] The evening sacrifice, a puja performed at sun-set. See பூசை. 2. [com. சாயலட்சை.] The evening, சாயங்காலம். சாயக்காரர், s. Dyers, stainers. சாயங்காய்ச்ச--சாயந்தீர--சாயந்தோய்க் க--சாயமேற்ற--சாயம்போட, inf. To dye, imbue, stain, tinge, color, tincture. சாயப்பணி, s. Work in dying with red as distinguished from நீலப்பணி. சாயச்சால், s. A vat for dying. சாயச்சேலை, s. A dyed சேலை cloth. சாயப்பொல், s. [prov.] A painted cane, staff, &c. சாயத்துக்குப்போட, inf. To be given for dying. (c.) சாயம்பிடிக்க, inf. To take or imbibe a dye. சாயவேர், s. The chaya-root. சாயவேர்ச்சக்களத்தி, s. A plant. See இம்பூறற்சக்களத்தி. சாயவேர்குத்திகள், s. [prov.] Chayaroot diggers. சாயவோலை, s. Stained, dyed olas or rushes for the ear, for matting, &c. அரைச்சாயம்--இளஞ்சாயம், s. A faint dye. முதுசாயம், s. [loc.] A deep dye. எண்ணெய்ச்சாயம், s. An oil-color. உடற்சாயம், s. [loc.] A partial dye, the middle part of the cloth being left white. காரச்சாயம், s. [prov.] A compound color for dying. சப்பங்கிச்சாயம், s. Color or dye from சப்பங்கி root. முழுச்சாயம், s. A deep and thorough dye. மகரச்சாயம்--பூஞ்சாயம், s. Ruddy, dark color. See மகரம். வேர்ச்சாயம், s. Tinge, dye from chaya roots, &c. 72)
ஸ்நானம்
snāṉm (p. 214) s. Bathing, ablution, &c., முழு க்கு. W. p. 955. SNANA.--Note. The brahmans count seven kinds of ஸ்நானம். or purification: 1. வாயவியஸ்நானம், a purification by being covered with dust raised by the trampling of cows, and by the wind. 2. திவ் வியஸ்நானம், that produced by the sprinkling of rain in the sun-shine. 3. மனஸ்நானம், a purification of the mind by meditation. 4. மந்திரஸ்நானம், sprinkling of water on a sick person while hearing the Veda read. 5. பூமிஸ்நானம், sprinkling with dust from the vicinity of sacred trees, shrubs, &c., as ஆல், அரசு, துளசி, &c. 6. அக்கினிஸ்நானம், purification by applying the ashes of cow-dung. 7. யோகஸ்நானம், from fixed contemplation of the Yogi. ஸ்நானகன், s. (Christ. usage.) The Baptist. ஆரோக்கியஸ்நானம், s. Bathing after recovery from sickness. (Colloq.) ஞானஸ்நானம், s. (Christ. usage.) Baptism; [ex ஞானம்.] ஞானஸ்நானம்பண்ண, inf. [improp. ஞா னஸ்தானம்பண்ண.] To baptize. ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give baptism (with the dative). ஞானஸ்நானம்பண்ண--ஞானஸ்நானஞ் செய்விக்க, inf. To baptize (with the accusative). ஞானஸ்நானத்தொட்டி, s. A baptismal font. ஞானஸ்தானம்பெற்றவன். One who has received baptism. ஞானஸ்நானன், s. One who baptizes. (R.) 35)
