iṉi (p. 57) adv. Now, immediately, presently, இப்பொழுது. 2. Henceforth, hereafter, பின்பு. 3. A particle of place, from this limit, onward, இப்பால். (நன்னூல்.) இனிக்கள்ளமில்லை. There is no more injurious, offensive matter, &c., no longer any alloy, spuriousness, &c. இனிக்காரியமில்லை. There is no further business. There is no more hope for him--said of a dying man, &c. இனிநம்மெல்லை. We are now close on our limit; we approach our boundary. இனிப்பிழைக்கிறதா? Can he possibly survive? (he will certainly die). இனிப்பேசு. Now you may speak, there is no longer any restraint. இனிப்போதும். Now there is enough. இனிமேல். Hereafter, at some future time. இனியார்? Who else? இனியாற்றாது. I am unable to proceed further (I am altogether exhausted). இனியெங்கேபோவாய்? Whither will you go next? What further resource is left you? இனியென்னசெய்வாய்? What can you do further? இனிவேண்டாம். It is needed no longer, or no more is required. பண்டறியேன்கூற்றென்பதனையினியறிந்தேன்.... Formerly I knew not, but now I know who Yama is. (குறள்.) 46)

iḷi (p. 56) s. Disgrace, degradation, meanness, baseness, contempt, contumely, scorn, இகழ்ச்சி. 2. A token of scorn or contempt, grinning, இகழ்ச்சிக்குறிப்பு. 3. Laughter, சிரிப்பு. 4. Ridicule, derision, silly laughter, அவமதிச்சிரிப்பு. 5. A cerebral tone in singing, one of the seven tones of the gamut, supposed to proceed from the forehead, நெற்றியிற்பிறக்குமிசை. 6. A string of the lute whose sound is in unison with the cerebral tone, யாழிலோர்நரம்பு. 7. Junction, union, இணக்கம். (p.) இளிவரின்வாழாதமானமுடையார். Those who are so sensitive as not to be able to survive disgrace. (குறள்.) இளிபுரிய, inf. To deride, scorn, disgrace, இகழ்ச்சிசெய்ய. 7)

uyir (p. 63) s. Life, soul, vitality, animal or vegetable life, சீவன். 2. Wind, காற்று. 3. A vowel, உயிரெழுத்து. 4. A living being, human, brute, or vegetable; an animal, ஓரறி வுயிர்முதலியசீவராசி. உயிருமுடலும்போல. As closely united as the soul and body. உயிர்போய்விட்டது. Life is gone. மன்னுயிர்க்கிரங்குகிறது. To be compassionate to other living creatures. உயிரடங்க, inf. To be in a state of insensibility, be in a swoon, to be suspended as the vital powers. உயிரடைய, inf. To revive, to be reanimated. உயிரளபு--உயிரளபெடை, s. The lengthening of a vowel in verse. See அளபெடை. உயிரறுதியும். Till the very end of life. உயிருதவி, s. Aid in a fatal juncture. 2. Aid by sacrificing life for another. உயிரெடுக்க, inf. To take away life. உயிரெழுத்து, s. A vowel, ஆவி. உயிரொடுங்க, inf. To be reduced as the powers before death, உயிரடங்க. 2. To die, சாவ. உயிரொளிக்க, inf. [prov.] To feign great weakness, sickness, inability, &c., in order to gain or effect an object, உயிர்மறைக்க. உயிரொளித்தகள்ளன், s. A cringing deceiver who though rich and strong makes pretensions to the contrary. உயிரோம்ப, inf. To support life, maintain, உயிர்காக்க. உயிர்கலக்க, inf. To revive, to be diffused--as life through the body in one that has been swooning, &c. 2. To reunite as the soul with the body in one restored to life. 3. (fig.) To be relieved from anxiety, &c. உயிர்குடிக்க, inf. To devour life, kill (a war term), also used of demons and ferocious deities, கொல்ல. உயிர்கொள்ள, inf. To take the life of an antagonist--as in battle, &c., உயிர்வாங்க. உயிர்க்கட்டை, s. The body, உடம்பு. உயிர்க்கணம், s. (p.) உயிர்த்தோழமை, s. Intimate friendship. உயிர்த்தோழன், s. A very trusty or bosom friend, a friend dear as life, பிராணசிநேகன். உயிர்த்தோழி, s. A lady's choice female companion, உயிர்ப்பாங்கி. உயிர்நிலை--உயிர்நிலையகம், s. The body as the seat of life, or station of the soul, உடல். 2. The vital parts essential to life, உயிர்த்தானம். உயிர்பிழைக்க--உயிருய்ய, inf. To survive a calamity, escape from, or live through a time of peril, தப்பிப்பிழைக்க. 2. To live, maintain life, subsist, உயிர் வாழ. உயிர்போக, inf. To expire, to die. உயிர்ப்பழி, s. The guilt of murder, உயிர்க்கொலை. 2. Vengeance, divine or human, persuing the murderer to death, regarded as the ghost of the murdered person, பிரமகத்தி. உயிர்ப்பிராணி, s. [vul.] A living creature, a brute, an inferior animal, சீவபிராணி. உயிர்மாய்க்க, inf. To destroy one's self, commit suicide, தன்னுயிரைப்போக்க. 2. To murder, kill, கொலைசெய்ய. உயிர்மெய்--உயிர்மெய்யெழுத்து, s. An animated consonant, a consonant combined with a vowel, ஓரெழுத்து; (lit.) a living body. உயிர்வாங்க, inf. uy (p. 63) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To live as man, beast, or vegetables; to subsist, survive, revive or flourish--as trees, plants, &c., சீவிக்க. 2. (p.) To obtain benefits, privileges, &c.; to be blessed, to be happy, to prosper, flourish, to be relieved from distress, oppression, suffering, &c., உயிர்வாழ. 3. To obtain heavenly bliss, to gain exemption from transmigration, ஈடேற. 4. To escape from dangers, wild beasts, &c., to flee from, தப்ப. உய்கதியால்--உய்தடி, s. A live hedge-stick. உய்தவம், s. Austerities leading to bliss. உய்பயிர், s. Thriving crops, trees, &c. 2. (fig.) A person in thriving circumstances. உய்வனவு, v. noun. [prov.] Flourishing or reviving as a tree, செழிப்பு. 2. Living, subsistence, maintenance, சீவனம். 3. s. Means of attaining eternal bliss, ஈடேற்றம். This word properly must be உய்வு. உய்விக்க, inf. To save alive, cause to live, prosper, flourish, &c. This is the causative of உய். உய்வு--உய்தி, v. noun. Enjoyment of life, prosperity, felicity, உயிர்வா ழ்வு. 2. Bliss, salvation, ஈடேற்றம். 3. Living, life as spoken auspiciously, உயிர்க்கை. ஒருவன்செய்நன்றிகொன்றார்க்குய்தியில்லெனவ றம்பாடின்றே. The divine laws declare that to the ungrateful there is no happiness here or hereafter. oṭṭu (p. 81) கிறேன், ஒட்டினேன், வேன், ஒட்ட, v. a. and v. n. To stick on, to stick up, to glue on, cause to cleave or adhere, பொருத்த. 2. To apply, resort, betake one's self to a person for support, protection, to come or be near, or in contact with, to lean on or join one's self to a thing, சார. 3. To use qualifying terms, phrases, adjuncts, &c., அடைகொடுக்க. 4. To lay a wager, to gamble, பந்தயம்வைக்க. 5. To permit, suffer, allow, let, இடங்கொடுக்க. 6. To increase length or breath by addition, to add to, சேர்க்க. 7. To grow lean, be withered, shrunk, &c., to have the skin stick to the bones, be shrivelled as a fruit, &c., சுருங்க. 8. To stand near a wall, a pillar, &c., in order to over-hear, to way-lay, &c., விசேஷங்கேட்கவொளித்துநிற்க. சுட்டமண்ணும்பச்சைமண்ணுமொட்டாது. Burnt earth will not adhere to that which is fresh. ஒட்டி யுலர்வாருறவு. That is friendship which adheres to and suffers with one, lit. which dries with one as the flowers in the tank. இதுனக்கொட்டுமோ. Will this unjust gain, &c., abide with you? உலகத்தோடொட்டவொழுகல். Acting conformably to the world. (குறள்.) மரத்தோடொட்ட. To hide one's self behind a tree. தோலெல்லாமெலும்போடொட்டிப்போயிற்று..... The skin cleaves to the bones. ஒருவனையொட்டிப்பிழைக்க. To subsist by means of another. அவனைவரவொட்டும். [Contracted in colloquial use to அவன்வரட்டும்.] Let him come. சொல்லவொட்டான். He will not permit me to speak. ஒட்டஅறுக்க, inf. To cut off short or level with the ground--as corn; to cut off altogether, to sever--as an ear, a tail, &c. ஒட்டஇணைகக, inf. To nail in close. ஒட்டக்கட்ட, inf. To tie short. 2. To tuck or gather up the clothes well so that no part may hang down. 3. To tie a necklace close to the neck. ஒட்டப்பட்டினிபோட--ஒட்டப் போட, inf. To make a patient fast in order to cure his disease, or to put on short commons a disobedient person for disciplinary purposes. ஒட்டவடிக்க, inf. To drain quite off. ஒட்டவிட, inf. To let one join or have access to one. 2. To set cocks together preparatory for fighting. ஒட்டாக்கொற்றி, s. A cow cruel to its calf. 2. A woman unkind to her child or inattentive, unyielding, &c., to her husband. ஒட்டாமலடிக்க, inf. To neglect one who has sought protection. ஒட்டார்--ஒட்டலர், s. Foes, persons that will not unite, பகைவர். (p.) ஒட்டிக்கொள்ள, inf. To cleave, to adhere, &c. 2. To supply a word, &c., understood or wanting to complete the sense. இதனையெல்லாவிடங்களிலுமொட்டிக்கொள்க... Apply this word in every similar instance. ஒட்டித்தப்பியிருக்க, inf. To survive, be left, &c., after a general destruction, sacking clearing, to be out of sight, unnoticed. ஒட்டிப்போக, inf. To go jointly or together. 2. To wax lean, pine. ஒட்டியபுண், s. A contagious eruption. ஒட்டியமேளம், s. A kind of drum. ஒட்டுவியாதி, s. An infectious disease, தொத்துவியாதி. ஒட்டுறவு, s. Near relationship, great friendship. அறுந்தகாதொட்ட, inf. To join an ear that has been torn or cut. பந்தயமொட்ட, inf. To lay a wager. ஒட்டல், v. noun. Sticking, adhering, pasting, &c. 2. s. Shortness. ஒட்டல்வயிறு, s. A shrunk belly. ஒட்டற்காது, s. Short ears or ears with the lobes not hanging. ஒட்டு, v. noun. Adhesion, contact, attachment, conjunction, friendship, cement, சேர்க்கை. 2. Being close to a wall, tree, &c., generally for some bad purpose, lurking to over-hear, to ensnare birds, &c., பதிவிருக்கை. 3. Bidding more--as at a sale, விலையுயர்த்திக்கேட்கை. ஒட்டுக்கண், s. Inflamed eyes with the lids adhering. ஒட்டுக்காய்ச்சல், s. A contagious fever, தொத்துக்காய்ச்சல். ஒட்டுக்காய்ச்சலாய்க்காய, inf. To have a contagious fever. ஒட்டுக்குஞ்சு, s. A small young one of birds, சிறுகுஞ்சு. 2. [prov.] A small white louse, பேன்குஞ்சு. ஒட்டுக்குடி, s. A family or person, lodging or dwelling in another's house, garden, &c. ஒட்டுக்கும், adv. Wholly, entirely, முழுதும். ஒட்டுக்கேட்க, inf. [prop. ஒற்றுக் கேட்க.] To over-hear by listening in a hiding place, &c. ஒட்டுக்கொடுக்க, s. inf. To allow access, to be accessible. 2. To comply with, to yield, grant one's request, இடங் கொடுக்க. ஒட்டுடந்தை--ஒட்டுப்பற்று--ஒட் டுரிமை, s. A slight participation in an act, ஒட்டுடன்பாடு. 2. Distant relationship--as regards title to inheritance, சொற்பசம்பந்தம். ஒட்டுப்பற்றில்லாமற்போயிற்று. All friendship has ceased between us. ஒட்டுப்பற்ற, inf. [used adverbially.] Totally extinct, quite out, utterly exhausted. ஒட்டுத்தையல், s. Botching, mending, patching. ஒட்டுநர்--ஒட்டினர், s. Relations, friends, those connected with one, adherents, சினேகர். (p.) ஒட்டுநிற்க, inf. To lurk, wait in secret in order to over-hear. ஒட்டுப்புல், s. A kind of grass, ஓர்புல், Panicum verticillatum, L. ஒட்டுப்போட, inf. To stick on-as a piece, to insert by sticking, வட்டம் போ. 2. To lie in wait, சமயம்பார்க்க. ஒட்டுமயிர், s. Short hair in the margin, not gathered into the tie, குறுகி யமயிர். 2. Hair stuck together, or pasted--as by dancers, ஒட்டப்படுமயிர். ஒட்டுவிசேஷம், s. An ingrafted, patched up story, கட்டுக்கதை. 2. A story learned by stealth, ஒளித்துக்கேட்கும்வார்த்தை. ஒட்டுவிட, inf. To become loose, to separate as boards, &c., glued together, பொருத்தநீங்க. ஒட்டுவித்தை, s. The art of sticking persons together to the ground or otherwise by magical drugs, incantations, &c., ஓர்வித்தை. ஒட்டுவேலை, s. Joining, veneering, sticking on, patching, இணைக்கும்வேலை. 2. kiṟṟl (p. 112) v. noun. Being made or effected, செய்தல். 2. Being bound, confined, restrained, அடிமைத்திறமுறல்.--Note. கிறு, கிற்பு, கிற்றல், கிற்று, கின் and கின்று seem to be the surviving paronyms from some obsolete Tamil root, which, in sound and meaning, might have been equivalent to the Sanscrit Kru, to do: hence, நடக்கிறான் and நடக்கி ன்றான், mean 'he does walk.' கிற்பு and கிற் றல், as verbal nouns, and கிற்று and கின், as particles, are now absolete. 35)

neruppu (p. 280) s. Fair, தழல். 2. Caloric; principle of fire in the animal system, &c., as தீ, which see. 3. (fig.) Great grief, envy, jealously, rage, fury, &c. நெருப்புநின்றகாட்டிலேதாவதிருந்தாலும்நீர்நின்றகா ட்டிலொன்றுமிராது. Though something may survive a forest conflagration, nothing will remain after a forest inundation; i. e. water is more destructive than fire. நெருப்பெழக்காய்ச்சினான். He heated it hot. பெருநெருப்புக்கீரமில்லை. A great fire is not put out by a little moisture. அவன்நெருப்பு. He is fiery man. வயிற்றிலேநெருப்பாயெரிகிறது. It burns as fire in my belly (heart); spoken of a bereavement, &c. 2. My hunger is very severe. 3. I have a burning sensation internally. காய்ச்சல்நெருப்பாயெரிக்கிறது. The fever rages like fire. நெருப்பணைத்துவைக்க, inf. To keep the fire from going out. 2. To put out the fire. நெருப்பணைந்துபோக, inf. To be quenched, extinguished as fire. நெருப்பன், s. [prov. fem. நெருப்பி.] An angry, malicious, dangerous man, an incendiary, கோபி. நெருப்பாறு, s. A river of fire, said to be in the north beyond Oude. 2. Lava from a volcano. நெருப்பிட, inf. To set on fire. நெருப்பின்சிகை, s. Flame of fire. நெருப்புக்கட்டை, s. A large fire-brand, a log of fire. நெருப்புக்கண், s. Envious eye. 2. The evil eye. 3. A fiery, malicious, furious eye. 4. Frontal eye of Siva, சிவனதுநெற்றிக்கண். நெருப்புக்கண்ணன், s. A malicious man. 2. An envious man. 3. A man with blighting eyes. 4. As அக்கினிக்கண் ணன். நெருப்புக்கல், s. Flint, தீத்தட்டிக்கல், 2. See under சாணை. நெருப்புத்தணல், s. Live coals. நெருப்புத்தண்ணீர்--நெருப்புத்திராவ கம், s. [com. அக்கினித்திராவகம், which see.] Aqua fortis, or nitric acid. நெருப்புத்தூண், s. A column of fire. நெருப்புப்படுதல், v. noun. Being consumed with drought, கடுங்கோடையாதல். 2. (fig.) Suffering oppression, injury, &c., as a village, or country, from a ruler of head man, அமளியாதல். 3. Being destroyed by divine retribution, as the possessions of a wicked man, தேவதண்டனைஅடைதல். 4. Being destroyed, அழிவடைதல், the language of imprecation. நெருப்புப்பற்ற--நெருப்புப்பிடிக்க, To catch fire, ignite. 2. As தீப்பற்ற. நெருப்புப்பற்றவைக்க--நெருப்புமூட்ட --நெருப்புவளர்க்க, inf. To kindle a fire. See தீவளர்க்க. நெருப்புப்பொறி, s. Fire-spark. நெருப்புமணத்்தல், v. noun. Smell of fire; fumigation. நெருப்புமழை, s. A fiery rain, at the universal deluge of fire, from one of the seven classes of clouds. See முகில். நெருப்புமழைபெய்தல், v. noun. Raining fire. 2. (fig.) Acting unjustly, as a government, a head-man, &c., often used as a curse. நெருப்புமூள, inf. To be kindled as fire, to rage as fire. நெருப்புவிழுங்குகோழி--நெருப்புக்கோ ழி. s. An ostrich. See தீக்குருவி. 2. (Beschi.) A turkey-cock, from its red throat, வான்கோழிச்சேவல். நெருப்புவிழுதல், v. noun. Being destroyed by unjust means, or by drought and famine. 2. Falling or being struck out, as sparks from a grind-stone, a flint, &c. 3. Being discomfited, disheartened. 4. As தீவிழ. நெருப்புவீச, inf. To throw about fire, met. To be hasty in a new affair. The sun, சூரியன்.--In composition, ன் may be changed to ற், before க், ச், த், ப், as பொற் கம்பி, பொற்சங்கிலி, &c. பொன்னானமருமகளானாலும்மண்ணாலேயாகிலுமொரு மாமியார்வேண்டும். Though a daughter-in-law be of gold, she needs a mother-in-law even of earth. பொன்கத்தியென்றுகழுத்தறுத்துக்கொள்ளலாமா..... Would any one cut his throat because the knife was of gold? பொன்னுக்குப்பொடியாயிருக்கிறது. It is extremely dear; (lit.) a particle for a goldcoin. இதிலேபொன்விளையும். Gold is produced in this, i. e. it is a rich soil. பொற்கட்டி, s. A lump of gold in the mass. பொற்கணக்கு, s. Table of weights for the precious metals, troy-weight, பொன் னிறையளவு. பொற்கண்டை--பொற்கெண்டை--பொற் சரிகை, s. Threads of gold. See கெண்டை. பொற்கலசம், s. [Chris. usage.] A golden vial. பொற்கலம்--பொற்கலன், s. A golden salver. 2. A golden ornament. பொற்காசு, s. Gold-coin. பொற்குடம், s. A golden pot. பொற்சங்கிலி, s. Golden chain. பொற்சரக்கு, s.
