இளி
iḷi (p. 56) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grin, show the teeth--as in cringing, craving, &c., பல்லிளிக்க. 2. To laugh in a silly manner, to simper, giggle, களகளவெனச்சிரிக்க. 3. v. a. To ridicule, scorn, deride, பரிகாசஞ்செய்ய. 4. To disgrace, contemn, அவமதிக்க. (c.) இளித்தவாய்ப்பட்டம், s. Notoriety for grinning, இளிச்சவாயனெனப்படுகை. 2. The character of a sauntering idler. 3. The state or character of one baffled or defeated in his projects. குரங்குபோலிளித்தவாயன். One who grins like a monkey. பல்லையிளிக்க, inf. To laugh foolishly. இளிச்சற்கண், s. Blear eyes, eyes sore with rheum. இளிப்பு--இளிவு, v. noun. Grinning, simpering, tittering, பல்லிளிக்கை. 2. Ridicule, scorn, derision, இழிவு. 3. Disgrace, நிந்தை. நாயையடித்துப்பல்லிளிவுபார்க்கிறதினாலேயென் ன? What will it avail to strike a dog and then look at its grin? [prov.] எள்ளினிளிவாமென்றெண்ணி. Considering that it would be disrespectful to neglect him. (குறள்.) 8)
எயிறு
eyiṟu (p. 73) s. A tooth, பல். 2. The tusk of an elephant, or wild hog, யானை, பன் றியிவற்றின்கோடு. (p.) எயிறலைக்க--எயிறுதின்ன, inf. To gnash the teeth--expressive of anger. எயிறலைப்பு, v. noun. Gnashing the teeth. எயிறிலி, s. The sun whose teeth Siva is said to have broken to pieces, சூரியன். (p.) 78)

kāntu (p. 104) கிறேன், காந்தினேன், வேன், காந்த, v. n. To shine, give out lustre, emit rays, பிரகாசிக்க. 2. To be scorched, singed, reduced to a cinder, கருகிப்போக. 3. To be heated gently--as a vessel on the fire, காய. 4. To be hot with indignation, to be to be enkindled, மனம்வேக. 5. To feel hot as the body, by warm weather, fever, or hot medicines, வெப்பமுற. 6. To heat, burn, smart, as a sore, எரிய. 7. To burn with envy, பொறாமைகொள்ள. 8. v. a. [prov.] To absorb water, rain, &c.--as hot vessels, parched earth, &c., சுவற்ற. 9. To heat, to make hot, சுட. 1. [prov.] To bite off, scoop or scrape out with the upper teeth--as a cocoanut, பல் லினாற்கோத. கண்டுகாந்துகிறாள். She envies one. விளக்கிலெண்ணெய்காந்தியது. The lamp has absorbed the oil. வயிறுகாந்த, inf. To be pinched with hunger. காந்தல், v. noun. Burning, floating flakes of straw, olas, paper, &c.; cinders, ஓலைமுதலியவற்றின் காந்தல். 2. Any thing over-dried or scorched by fire, முதிரக் காய்ந்தது. 3. Anger, சினக்குறிப்பு. 4. (fig.) Growing grain greatly burnt by the sun, காய்ந்தபயிர். காந்தலாய்ப்போக, inf. To be reduced to cinders. 2. To be greatly scorched. காந்தற்சோறு, s. Parched, boiled rice. 47) *
கொறி
koṟi (p. 147) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To work or force off the husks from grains of rice with the fore-teeth--as persons, or with the beak--as birds; to bite or nibble grain, &c., பல்முதலியவற்றாற் கொறிக்க. 2. (fig.) To pick, eat but little; to piddle, கொஞ்சங்கொஞ்சமாயுண்ண. 3. [prov.] To make a ticking, clucking sound, கட்டுவிட்டொலிக்க. 4. To chirp--as a lizard, &c., பல்லிமுதலிய கொறிக்க. கொறிநெற்பதமாயிற்று. The paddy is grown so ripe that the husk can be easily forced off. அவன் என் தலையைக் கொறிக்கப்பார்க்கிறான். He attempts to nibble my head, i. e. to injure me. ஏன்சும்மாகொறிக்கிறாய்? [prov.] Why do you chatter in vain? கொறித்துப்பார்த்தல், v. noun. Trying rice that has been for husking, by biting, to ascertain whether it is dry enough. 2. Looking staringly with impudence. கொறிப்பு--கொறித்தல், v. noun. The act of nibbling or nipping. 25)
பதம்
ptm (p. 293) s. A proper temperament, temperature, consistency, degree of hardness or softness, quality or fitness, பக்குவம். (c.) 2. Boiled rice, சோறு. 3. Eating, உண்ணுகை. 4. A sacrificial grass, அறுகு. 5. Beauty, அழ கு. 6. Time, காலம். 7. An Indian hour of twenty-four minutes, நாழிகை. 8. (Beschi.) a kind of ode, சிந்து. மருந்தெண்ணைப்பதம், s. The stage when a medicinal oil is to be taken from the fire. 2. (fig.) Such a delicate state of the system as renders a person liable to disease from the least exposure. 3. (fig.) Excessive irritability of temper, extreme of sensibility.--Note. There are five degrees of inspissation: 1. குழம்புப்பதம், a thickened state; 2. கடுகுப்பதம், partial fluidity; 3. மந்தபதம், oily consistency; 4. மெழுகுபதம், waxy state; 5. முறுகுபதம், dryness. There are two states of heat in preparing oils, metals, &.c.: காயும்பதம், slight heat, for boiling the juices of plants; 2. வேல்பதம், full heat for melting gold, silver and other metals. பதக்கேடு, v. noun. Past the right stage, over-ripe, over-boiled, decayed, rotten. பதக்கேடானசரீரம். Debility of the system, often through age. பதத்துக்குக்காய்ச்ச--பதமாகக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat or boil medical oil, food, &c., to the proper degree. பதத்துக்குவடிக்க--பதத்தில்வடிக்க, inf. To strain a medical oil, &c., at the right stage of boiling. பதநீர், s. [com. பதனி.] Sweet toddy drawn in a pot lined with chunam To prevent fermentation. பதந்தப்ப, inf. To miss or pass the proper stage of boiling rice or medical oil, or in the ripening of fruits. 2. To pass the proper time for doing a thing. எகுபதந்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The steel is not well tempered. பதபாகம், s. Gentleness, mildness, &c. பதப்பட, inf. [v. noun. பதப்பாடு.] To be seasoned, tempered, fitted, adapted, trained, பக்குவமாக. 2. To grow ripe, பழுக்க. பல்லுக்குப்பதப்பட்டது. It is adapted to the teeth--as well boiled for an old man, &c. பதப்படுத்த, inf. To season, temper, tan, mould, adapt, train. பதமழிவு, v. noun. Over-ripeness. See பதனழிவு. பதமறிய, inf. To know the right stage, temperature or consistency. பதமாயிருக்க, inf. To strain the water from boiled rice that it may be properly dry. பதமெடுக்க--பதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To hit on the right stage, as in boiling rice, oil, &c. பதம்பண்ண, inf. To season, to temper, to mould; to tan. பதம்பாட, inf. To compose a பதம் ode. பதம்பார்க்க, inf. To try the taste, consistency, &c., of boiling rice, to try a fruit, by feeling, smelling, or cutting. &c. 2. To hesitate and not enter on a business promptly. 2. [in burlesq.] To have misgivings, and doubts as to doing a thing for another. 4. To examine the moistness of land, &c., to ascertain its fitness for sowing. 14) *
