arukku (p. 25) கிறேன், அருக்கினேன், வேன், அருக்க, v. a. To diminish, குறைக்க. 2. To make scarce, reduce in quantity, சுருக்க. 3. v. n. To keep back from others use, (as keeping up grain, making it scarce and dear,) to stand out in bargaining, stickle, haggle, அருக்காணிபண்ண. 4. kūcu (p. 133) கிறேன், கூசினேன், வேன், கூச, v. n. To be shy, bashful, coy, diffident; to shrink back, to be timid, ashamed, அஞ்ச, நாண. 2. To be tender or weak--as an eye, a foot, &c., or as teeth set on edge, கண்முதலியகூச. 3. (fig.) To recoil--as a hand or foot, through fear, sorrow, delicacy, deference, &c., அச்சக்குறிப்புக்காட்ட. 4. To be ticklish, to shrink from tickling, கூச்சங்கொள்ள. பல்லுக்கூசுகிறது. My teeth are set on edge. கூசாமற்பேச, inf. To speak without fear, or diffidence. 2. To be loth to think evil of one. வாய்கூச, inf. To be reluctant to utter improper things, &c. கூச்சம்--கூசல் v. noun. Shyness, bashfulness, diffidence, shame-facedness; modesty, delicacy, நாணம். 2. Tenderness or weakness of a limb, an eye, &c., causing a shrinking from its functions, &c., பல்முதலியகூசுகை. 3. Ticklishness, tickling, titilation, கூசுகை. 4. Timidity, fear, apprehension, அச்சம். 5. [local.] Properly. கூர்ச்சம்; which see. அக்குள்பாய்ச்சினாற்கூச்சமாயிருக்கும். If you put your fingers in one's arm-pit, he will feel ticklish. கூச்சக்காரன், s. A shy person. 2. A ticklish person. 3. A bashful, diffident person. கூச்சங்காட்ட--கூச்சப்படுத்த, inf. To tickle, titilate. கூச்சந்தெளிய, inf. To overcome shyness, &c. 2. To get rid of, or out-grow ticklishness. கூச்சந்தெளிந்தவன்--கூச்சமில்லாதவன் --கூச்சந்தீர்ந்தவன், s. One that has overcome shyness; one no longer bashful. கூச்சப்பட, inf. To be shy. 2. cimiṇṭu (p. 185) கிறேன், சிமிண்டினேன், வேன், சிமிண்ட, v. a. (Com. சீண்டு.) To touch with the finger, tickle; pluck, pinch. Compare நிமிண்டு. கக்கத்திற்சிமிண்டுகிறகைநமனல்லவோ. Is not the hand that tickles one's armpit a minister of death? சிமிண்டிக்காட்ட, inf. To pull one and point with the hand. (R.) 6)

nāy (p. 274) s. A dog, ஞமலி, 2. The sign of the regent of the south-west, நிருதியின்குறி. 3. Conical pieces in the play of chess or ticklack, சூதாடுகருவி.--Of நாய், there are கடல்நாய், a seal; மரநாய், palmyra dog; நீர்நாய், மீனாய், a beaver; செந்நாய், a wild dog, கோ ணாய் or கோநாய், a wolf, (c.) நாயும்பேயுங்கொண்டுபோகின்றன. Dogs and devils (strangers) carry it away. நாய்க்குமுழுத்தேங்காய்தக்குமா. Of what use to the dog is an unbroken cocoanut? நாய்வேஷம்போட்டால்குலைத்தேதீரவேணும். If one disguise himsel as a dog he should bark. நாயரஞ்சி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாயாட்டம், Dog-like, mean, servile. நாயீ, s. A dog fly; [ex இ. நாயுணி, s. A kind of tick. நாயும்புலியும், s. A kind of play, with seeds, stones, &c., in squares. நாயுருவி, s. [sometimes நாய்குருவி.] A kind of plant, Achyranthes aspera, L. which forms one of the nine kinds of sacrificial fuel. See சமித்து.-- The root is used as a dentifrice, and from the skin of the root, a decoction is made as an aperient for infants. The leaves are bruised and applied to scorpion bites as a specific; [ex உருவி, penetrating as a biting dog.] There are two kinds, செந் நாயுருவி, the red, and வெண்ணாயுருவி, the white, which see. நாயுறக்கம், s. Very slight sleep, as of a dog. நாயோட்டம், s. A dog's pace, spoken of a horse, dhoney, &c. நாய்குருவி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாய்க்கடி, s. Bite of a dog. நாய்கடிபூனைக்கடிபடுகிறார்கள். They are snaring like cats and dogs. நாய்க்கடுகு, s. A small plant like mustard, as நாய்வேளை. நாய்க்குட்டி, s. A young dog, a puppy. நாய்க்குணம்--நாய்த்தனம், s. Doggedness. See குணம். நாய்க்கோலம், s. Mean appearance, shabiness of dress, &c. நாய்ச்சீரகம், s. A plat. See சீரகம். நாய்த்திசை, s. South-west. See திக்கு. நாய்த்துளசி, s. A kind of wild Marjoram. See கஞ்சாங்கோரை. நாய்வேளை, S. A plant, as நாய்க்கடுகு, Cleome viscosa, L. See நல்வேளை. நாய்நரம்பு, s. [prov.] A kind of catgut put round the neck of children for whooping cough. நாய்நாக்கி, s. A species of Euphorbia neriifolia, as இலைக்கள்ளி. நாய்ப்பயறு, s. A leguminous plant, Indigofera glabra, L. நாய்ப்பாகல், s. A medicinal plant of the Senna species, Bryonia maysorensis. (R.) நாய்ப்புடுக்கன், s. A large tree, Cynometra cauliflora, ஓர்மரம். நாய்ப்புடோல், s. A plant, ஓர்செடி. நாய்முகன், s. One who has a face like a dog. See நாய்மூஞ்சி. நாய்முருகை, s. [prov.] A kind of coral stone, ஓர்முருகைக்கல். நாய்முள்ளி, s. A thorny plant, Solanum, Ind. நாய்மூஞ்சி, s. The face of a dog. 2. As நாய்முகன். நாய்விட்டைக்கல், s. [prov.] A kind of stone, ஓர்வகைச்சுண்ணாம்புக்கல். நாய்வெள்ளை, s. Brown or whitish brown, as some cows. நாய்வேம்பு, s. A plant, Indigofera viscosa, ஓர்செடி. 15)

pakkam (p. 288) --பக்ஷம்--பட்சம், s. Side, புறம். (See அக்கம்.) 2. Contiguity, nearness, அருகு. 3. Place, இடம். 4. Faction, interest, party, பிரிவு. 5. PAKSHA.--Note. பக்கம், [in logic.] A twofold relation:--1. புறப்பக்கம், or புறுத்துப்பக்கம், an inference regarding exterior or secular matters; 2. உட்பக்கம், or அகப்பக்கம், connected with mental or religious truths. Each of these is applicable to two species of comparison; 1. நிகர்பக்கம், துல்லியபக்கம், ஒப்பாம்பக் கம், or சபக்கம், proper comparison, or deduction from analogy; thus for புறப்பக்கம், there is smoke, therefore there is fire; and for உட்பக்கம், regarding moral actions, originated in the mind; analogy refers them to maya, மாயை, as their basis. The agreement between this doctrine and the experience of a person, is ground of rational deduction. 2. நிகராப்பக்கம், ஒவ்வாதபக் கம், or விபக்கம், improper comparison, involving incongruity, absurdity, impossibility; thus for புறப்பக்கம், to say 'there is fire in water' is an absurdity in affairs of common life; for உட்பக்கம், to say that the basis of Siva's knowledge is மாயை, is an absurdity. In spiritual things the mental faculties, as well as the senses, are referred to மா யை, as their basis, and medium of acquiring knowledge. The சூக்கும body, the immediate source of consciousness, is referred to the same principle; and when the soul is liberated from births these are resolved into their original principles. பக்கத்திலேவாங்கிக்கொள்ளுதல். Borrowing in the neighborhood, or of others besides the persons in question. அவர்பக்கத்துக்காரியகாரன். He is his agent. எனக்குப்பக்கத்திலேஇரு. Sit be me. பக்கக்கிரகணம், s. Eclipse of the sun and moon, or the contrary, in succeeding changes of the moon. பக்கக்குடுமி, s. [loc. சிலுப்பா.] Men's hair-locks left growing over the ears, and tied behind. பக்கசூலை, s. A pain in the side, inflammation of the liver. See சூலை. பக்கச்செடில், s. A self torture, by running iron sticks, through the sides, See செடில். பக்கச்சொல், s. A word in one's favor. பக்கச்சொல்லாளி, s. A spokesman, a puffer, an advocate. பக்கத்துக்கிளி, s. [prov.] The one who passes in கிளித்தட்டு play. See கிளி. பக்கத்துணை, s. An aid, a companion, a supporter. பக்கத்தெலும்பு, s. A side-bone. பக்கபாதம், s. Partisanship, &c. See பட்சபாதம். பக்கப்பவுந்திரம், s. A fistula on either side of the privities.
