kṭu (p. 87) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To throb--as from a sting, venomous bite, the prick of a thorn, tooth-ache, விரு விருக்க. 2. To ache--as with colic, dysentery, &c.; to have pain as the leg from walking; the shoulders or head from carrying a load; the mouth from speaking; the arm from writing, &c., உளைய. 3. To be seasoned too highly, or otherwise spoiled--as curry, commonly, கடுகடுக்க. 4. (p.) To be like, to resemble, ஒக்க. 5. To be in doubt, or uncertainty, to hesitate, ஐயுற. 6. To be angry, impatient, fretful, கோபிக்க. 7. To pass swiftly, விரைய. கடுத்தபின். When (the king) suspects. (குறள்.) கடுத்துப்போனதண்ணீர். Bad water, water unpleasant to the taste. அடுத்ததுகாட்டும்பளிங்கேபோல்நெஞ்சங்கடுத்ததுகா ட்டுமுகம். The face indicates the resentment of the heart, as the mirror reflects the shape of things placed before it. ஊமன்கண்ணிலாதவற்குரைத்தலுங்காண்டலுங்கடுக் கும். It is as if a blind man saw a thing which a dumb man told him to look at. கடுவரைநீரிற்கடுத்துவரக்கண்டு. Seeing it coming as rapidly as the impetuous mountain torrent-- (வெண்பாமாலை.) கடுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak harshly. கடுப்ப, inf. Used as a particle of comparison--as பிள்ளைகடுப்பப்பிணம்பிறங்க, the bodies (of those who fell in battle) appeared (to move their dying limbs) like infants. (வெண்பா.) கடுத்தல், v. noun. Doubt, ஐயம். 2. Wrath, கோபம். 3. Vehemence, வேகம். 4. Comparison, உவமை. (p.) கடுப்பு, v. noun. Pains, throbbing, throe, எரிவு. 2. Anger, displeasure, impatience, peevishness, சினம். 3. Speed, rapidity, impetuosity, great haste, வேகம். அவருடையகடுப்பெல்லாமாறிப்போயிற்று. His peevish arrogance is now all gone (his means being reduced). கடுப்பிறக்குதல், v. noun. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. கடுப்புக்கழிச்சல், s. A painful dysentery. கடுப்புச்சூடு, v. noun. Cauterizing oxen after castrating as a counteroperation to promote healing. கடுப்பெடுத்தல், v. noun. Being in pain, aching. 2. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. வாதக்கடுப்பு, s. Rheumatic pains in the limbs. நீர்க்கடுப்பு, s. Dysury, strangury. மூலக்கடுப்பு, s. Dysentery, tenesmus. வயிற்றுக்கடுப்பு, s. Griping of the bowels. மனக்கடுப்பு, s. Indignation, resentment. 72)

Before a nasal பல் becomes பன், as பன்னுனி, the tip of a tooth. பல்லரணை--பல்லரனை, s. A kind of excrescence on the gums, gum-boil, ஓர் நோய். பல்லன், s. [fem. பல்லி.] A man with long or large teeth. பல்லிடுக்கு, s. Partings between the teeth, in reference to food sticking in them. பல்லுகட்ட--பற்கட்ட, inf. To fasten teeth [with gold] 2. To make and place [artificial] teeth. பல்லுகிட்டல்--பற்கிட்டல், v. noun. Chattering of the teeth from cold. 2 Closing together the jaws in convulsions; (lit.) approaching together of the teeth. பல்லுக்காட்ட--பல்லைக்காட்ட--பற்கா ட்ட, inf. To grin from meanness or want of good manners. 2. To cringe, beg meanly, ask pardon in a cringing manner. 3. To laugh irreverently. பல்லுக்குச்சி, s. As பற்குச்சி. பல்லுக்குத்த--பற்குத்த, inf. A kind of pastry covered with roasted pulse or rice in imitation of teeth, made on the appearance of the child's first tooth. பல்லுக்கொறிக்க, inf. To grind the teeth together. பல்லுதிரஅடிக்க, inf. Being discolored, blackened, &c., with smoke. புகைப்படலம், s. An expanse or volume of smoke, vapor, tog, cloud. புகைப்பரண், s. A loft over a fireplace for placing things on, that are to be smoked. புகையிலை, s. [vul. பொயிலை.] A leaf of tobacco; (lit.) the smoke-leaf.--The different sorts of tobacco are, வேதாரணி யத்துப்புகையிலை, a superior kind of tobacco cultivated at Vedaranyam; பந்தர்புகையிலை, Bunder tobacco, or that of Masulipatam; காம்புப்புகையிலை, tobacco strung on a line; மேலைமங்கலத்துப்புகையிலை, the best kind from Melaimangalam. புகையிலைகட்டுதல், v. noun. Making up packs of tobacco. 2. Laying up tobacco. புகையிலைகுடித்தல்--புகையுண்ணல், v. noun. Smoking tobacco. புகையிலைக்கறள், s. The soot of the tobacco, &c. See கறள். புகையிலைச்சிப்பம், s.
