urai (p. 65) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. [vul. உரைஞ்சு.] To be rubbed into a powder or paste, to wear away by attrition, to be indented, or effaced by rubbing, தேய. காரியமெல்லாமுரைந்துபோயிற்று. The whole affair has proved abortive, it has come to nothing. உரை, v. noun. Rubbing, friction, attrition, தேய்வு. 2. Touch of gold, or silver on the stone, assay, மாற்றறியுமுரை. 3. oṟṟu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஒற்றினேன், வேன், ஒற்ற, v. a. To bring into contact, join, unite, bring faces together in kissing, அ ணைக்க. 2. To touch. ply, apply--as clothes, with slight pressure and repetition, to foment, ஒற்றிடம்போட. 3. (p.) To dress another, to put on clothes, உடுத்த. (நிகண்டு.) 4. v. n. (c.) Toe-nail. கால்நடை--கானடை. v. noun. Walking, going on foot--as distinct from riding and driving. 2. s. Sheep and goats; oxen, cattle, ஆடுமாடுகள் அவனுக்குமாட்டில் நூறுகால்நடையுண்டு. He has no-hundred oxen. கால்நடையாய், adv. On foot, a-foot. கால்நடையாய்ப் பிரயாணம்போக, inf. To travel on foot. கால்நோக்கு--கானோக்கு s. One-fourth aspect of a planet, being one of the four aspects. கால்பாவவில்லை. The feet do not seek the ground--recoiling from going. கால்பிடிக்க, inf. To fall at one's feet to ask a favor. 2. To perform the several external actions in the daily worship. கிரியாசத்தி, s. lit. The operative energy or power. [in the agama philosophy.] One of the three active or female energies of Siva, by which he effects the creation or evolution of the universe. 2. the faculty or power of action, operation, &c., as applied to any agent. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியாசாதனம், s. Being trained or inured to the performance of works, religious duties, &c., கிரியையனுட்டிப்பு. கிரியாசைவம், s. One of the sixteen divisions of the Siva system. See சைவம். கிரியாசொரூபன், s. One who is the embodiment, கிரியை; (appropriately) Ganesa, who is considered the impersonation of Siva's divine operations. கிரியாதீதன், s.கிரியையொழிந்தவன். கிரியாபதம், s. [in Sanscrit grammar.] A verb, வினைச்சொல். கிரியாபாதம், s. The second of the four stages or degrees in the Siva worship; [ex கிரியை, et பாதம்.] கிரியாபூசை, s. The worship offered to Siva by one in the second degree. (p.) கிரியாமார்க்கம், s. The practice of duties in the second degree of the Siva religion; the performance of rites and ceremonies, கிரியைநெறி. கிரியாமாலை, s. Inflection or conjugation of verbs, chiefly in Sanscrit, வினைச் சொல்லின்ரூபகரணம். கிரியாவதி, s. A person who practices the rites and ceremonies enjoined in the Vedas. கிரியாவுத்திரி, s. Transcendental and symbolical instruction in the most spiritual rites, by a guru to an advanced disciple--opposed to ஞானாவுத்திரி. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியைகெட்டது, appel. noun. Any thing disorderly, slovenly, ஒழுங்கற்றது. கிரியைகெட்டவன், s. One destitute of good manners, slovenly in dress, or irregular in habits. கிரியைக்காரன், s. One in the second degree of the Siva religion. கிரியைக்கேடு, s. slovenliness, debauchery, beastliness, ஒழுங்கின்மை. கிரியைசெய்ய, inf. To perform actions, duties, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, உத்திரகிரியைசெய்ய. கிரியையனுட்டிக்க, inf. To perform rites, and ceremonies. 2. To practice the daily rites, to perform the duties of the second degree. கிரியையொழிந்தவன், s. One who has dispensed with works, having attained a higher degree, கிரியாபாதங்கடந்தவன். காட்டுக்கிரியை, s. kuṟi (p. 132) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To design, intend; to contemplate, consider, think, கருத. 2. To imagine, to conceive, மதிக்க. 3. To appoint, determine, decree, விதிக்க. 4. To note down; to make the first draught in writing; to sketch an outline in painting, to trace, குறித்துக்கொள்ள. 5. To refer to, to denote, suggest, specify. சுட்டிக்காட்ட. 6. To designate, to characterize, to denominate, to name, பெயர் குறிக்க. 7. To address one's self--as in prayer; to have reference to--as a procuring cause, நோக்க. 8. To foretell, to presage, to prognosticate by astrology, palmistry, augury, &c., முன்னறிவிக்க. 9. To blow--as a chank, &c., ஊத. செவிடன்காதிலேசங்குகுறித்தாற்போல. Like blowing a chank to a deaf man--it being useless. அதைக்கனவிலுங்குறிக்கவில்லை. I did not even dream of it. இதிலேஅவர்குறிக்கிறதென்ன. What does he mean by it? குறிக்குங்கால். If we consider. (வைரா.) குறித்துக்கொள்ள--குறித்துவைக்க, inf. To note down. எழுதுகோலாலேகுறித்துக்கொண்டான். He formed with a graving tool. Rott. குறித்தகள்வன், s. A notorious thief. குறித்தகாரியம், s. The particular thing. 2. The business in hand. குறித்தகாலம், s. The appointed time. 2. The proper season. குறித்ததொகை, s. The sum specified. குறித்தபோகங்கள், s. Destined enjoyments. 2. The proper harvests. குறித்தழைக்க, inf. To invoke a deity by name to appear. 2. To call or beckon one out of an assembly, &c. 3. To call upon one for protection. குறித்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To tell particularly; to define, specify, discribe, suggest. குறித்துப்பார்க்க--குறிப்பாய்ப்பார்க்க, inf. To look steadfastly, intently, significantly. உத்தியோகங்குறிக்க, inf. carppam (p. 169) s. A serpent--as சருப்பம், sometimes improperly written சற்பம். சர்ப்பசாத்திரம், s. Ophiology, ophiomancy. சர்ப்பசாந்தி, s. Removing the (poison) of snakes--(by charms, &c.) சர்ப்பதிஷ்டம், s. Bite of a serpent, the fang of a serpent, பாம்புக்கடி. சர்ப்பசயனம், s. The hydra-headed serpent as the couch of Vishnu. சர்ப்பந்தீண்டல், v. noun. The biting of a serpent, (lit.) touching of a snake. (c.) சர்ப்பாகாரம், s. [in astron.] The arranging of shells, or concrete numbers, in a serpentine way, so that the inferior kinds or numbers of the lower denominations may form the lower strata, and the superior, the upper one, &c.-opposed to தண்டாகாரம். 8)

cāṭṭāngkam (p. 174) --சாஷ்டாங்கம், s. Prostration in worship, or reverence by bringing eight parts of the body in contact with the ground. viz.; the hands, the feet, the breast, the shoulders and forehead, தெய்வவணக்கம். 2. The husband is not shaved during the wife's pregnancy, lest evil should happen to the infant. சாதங்கறி, s. Rice and curry. (c.) சாதம்படைக்க--சாதம்போட, inf. To set or distribute boiled rice. அரிசிச்சாதம், s. Rice not well boiled. உண்டைச்சாதம், s. Rice boiled and formed into balls. கட்டிச்சாதம், s. Boiled rice preserved in a small piece of cloth by a traveller. கறையற்சாதம், s. [prov.] Rice overboiled; [ex கரை, v.] தயிர்ச்சாதம், s. Rice mixed with curds, &c., sometimes presented to idols. பழையசாதம், s. (also பழையது.) Boiled rice mixed with water and kept over night for breakfast. பட்டைச்சாதம், s. [loc.] Rice boiled and set before the idol on a salver in the form of a cup, in which it had been moulded. கும்பற்சாதம், s. See under கும்பு, v. பிச்சைச்சாதம், s. [com. பிச்சைச்சோறு.] Boiled rice for the poor. பொங்கற்சாதம், s. Rice with the water not strained off, but left to steep. See பொங்கல். 5) *

cūtakam (p. 200) s. Birth, delivery, பிறப்பு. 2. (c.) Uncleanness, ceremonial impurity of a woman from catamenia, மகளீர்தொடக்கு. W. p. 94. SOOTAKA. 3. Ceremonial impurity of a person from the death of a relative, rendering him incompetent to perform certain rites; that from the father's side being greater, the mother's less, மரணசூதகம். 4. Ceremonial uncleanness in general, as of a person, house, clothes, &c., from a death, from menstruation, childbirth, miscarriage, touching a corpse or carcass; from shaving; contact of the finger, &c., with the spittle or any part of the mouth; touching one of low caste, or bathing in a tank of his village; or weeping, lamenting, &c., for a deceased acquaintance, தீட்டு. 5. Oldness, antiquity, பழமை.--Note. According to some, the causes of ceremonial impurity are five, viz.: 1. சனனாசூசம், or சாதகாசூசம், childbirth. 2. மரணாசூசம், or மிருதாசூசம், death. 3. சண்டாளநீரிற்றோய்தல், bathing in the waters used by low castes. 4. சுராபானம்பண்ணல், drinking toddy or ardent spirits. 5. பொய்கூறல், lying. The last seems but little regarded, also the fourth by many. Instead of the last three, the following are named by some; இருது சூதகம், menstruation. உச்சிட்டசூதகம், being spitten upon. சண்டாளபரிசசூதகம், contact with one of low caste. சூதகக்காரன், s. One ceremonially impure. சூதகக்காரி--சூதகஸ்திரி, s. A woman ceremonially unclean, by catamenia, or otherwise. சூதகக்கிராணி, s. A disease attending the childbirth, from wind or flatulency. சூதகங்கழிக்க, inf. To remove impurity by the prescribed means. சூதகங்காக்க, inf. To keep from society, abstain from venery, from shaving. &c., after a death, till the performance of the funeral rites. சூதகசன்னி, s. A disease of females from sexual intercourse during menstruation. See சன்னி. சூதகத்துக்குடையவர்கள், appel. n. Heirs of one deceased. சூதகமலடு, s. One of the six forms of barrenness. See மலடு. சூதகமாக, inf. To have the monthly course as a woman. (c.) சூதகமுட்டு, s.
