An ox that is brisk and ploughs well. காலாணி, s. A corn on the foot. 2. Pegs in the beams of native houses to support the roof. காலாணியற்றுப்போனவன், s. One who is become weak or poor. காலாயுதம், s. A gallinacious fowl, whose foot is its weapon, கோழி. காலாழி, s. See under ஆழி. காலாள், s. A person on foot; footsoldiers, infantry, பதாதி. காலாற, inf. To rest the foot, நடை யோய்ந்திருக்க. காலாறவிட, inf. To let draught oxen, horses, &c., rest. காலிடற--கால்தடக்க--காறடக்க, inf. To stumble. காலிலி, s. A snake, பாம்பு. 2. Wind, காற்று. 3. The charioteer of the sun, அருணன்; [ex கால், leg, இல், not without legs.] காலில்விழ, inf. To fall prostrate, or do homage at one's feet. காலுழற்சிகையுழற்சி. Distortion of the limbs, by convulsion or otherwise. காலிறால், s. See under இறால். காலுளைவு, v. noun. Soreness, aching or pain in the legs, from cold, walking, &c. காலூன்ற, inf. To set on foot firm on the ground; to become established. காலூன்றிநிற்க, inf. To stand firmly, stand fast. காலூன்றிப்பெய்ய, inf. To rain in torrents--the clouds seeming to rest on the horizon. காலேயரைக்கால், s. A quarter and oneeighth, five-eighths. காலோடேகால்சேர்ந்துநிற்க, inf. To stand with closed legs. கால்கட்டு, s. Inseparableness--as of wife and husband. கால்கட்டுகைகட்டு, Bound hand and foot. 2. (fig.) Confined at home by the sickness of another, by a grown-up daughter, a motherless child, or by urgent business, &c. கால்கழுவ, inf. To wash the feet; metaphorically to clean one's self with water after stool, மலங்கழுவ. கால்கூசுதல், v. noun. Shrinking of the foot in touching rough ground, &c. 2. Recoiling of the legs in stepping into the compound or house of a stranger. 3. Having spasms in the arms, and legs --as in cholera. கால்சீக்க, inf. To root out, exterminate, வேரோடுகளைய. 2. To efface, to obliterate, துடைக்க. 3. To dispel darkness, இருளைஅகற்ற. 4. To scrape with the foot, காலினாற்சீக்க. கால்செய்வட்டம், s. A fan, விசிறி; [ex கால், air, et செய்வட்டம்.] கால்தளர--காறளர inf. To become weak in the limps, by walking, sickness, age, &c. கால்தோல்--காற்றோல் s. [prov.] Leathern defences for toddy-drawers feet in climbing, மரமேறுவோர் காலிலிடுந்தோல். கால்நகம்--கானகம் s. Toe-nail. கால்நடை--கானடை. v. noun. Walking, going on foot--as distinct from riding and driving. 2. s. Sheep and goats; oxen, cattle, ஆடுமாடுகள் அவனுக்குமாட்டில் நூறுகால்நடையுண்டு. He has no-hundred oxen. கால்நடையாய், adv. On foot, a-foot. கால்நடையாய்ப் பிரயாணம்போக, inf. To travel on foot. கால்நோக்கு--கானோக்கு s. One-fourth aspect of a planet, being one of the four aspects. கால்பாவவில்லை. The feet do not seek the ground--recoiling from going. கால்பிடிக்க, inf. To fall at one's feet to ask a favor. 2. To press and rub the legs in order to induce sleep, to shampoo. கால்பின்னிக்கொண்டுநிற்க, inf. To stand cross-legged. கால்பின்னிக்கொள்ள--காலோடேகால் பின்னிக்கொள்ள, inf. To lose the power of walking, legs being crossed. கால்மட்டம், s. [prov.] Use of the feet in walking, by guess or practice--as in the dark or as a blind man. கால்மாடு, s. A lame man. கடைகால், s. The foundation, அஸ்திவா ரம். 2. An excavation for laying the foundation. 3. [prov.] A small iron bucket for drawing water. கிந்துகால், s. A halting or hobbling leg. கிந்துகாலன், s. A hobbler. கீற்றரைக்கால், The contracted form of உ, marked thus ,-- as து, நு. கீற்றுக்கால், The contracted form of ஊ, marked thus --as தூ, நூ. See under கீற்று. குதிகால்--குதிங்கால் s. Heel. குந்துகாலன், (fem. குந்துகாலி.) A hobbler, a limping person. 2. A Squatter, a man sitting on the his knees. குந்துகால், s. Tip-toe. 2. Squat, sitting on the heels--as a man. கொம்புக்கால், s. The two signs for ஒ marked thus ெ-ா, as in கொ,சொ,. தோரணக்கால், s. Poles to which strings or ropes adorned with twigs or leaves are tied, to represent triumphal arches. நாற்காலி, s. Chair. பகுதிக்கால், s. The sign of உ, in certain compound characters marked thus --as சு, பு. பகுதிக்காற்பிறை, s. The sign of ஊ, marked --as பூ, யூ. பவளக்காலி, s. The name of a bird, Erythropus longipes, corallinus. பின்னங்கால், s. Hind leg. புள்ளிக்கால், s. The character ள subjoined to the letter உ, to lengthen it. புறங்கால், s. The upper part of the foot, instep. பொய்க்கால், s. A stilt, a false leg-as a wooden one. பொய்க்கால் கட்டியாட, inf. To go upon stilts. மடிப்பங்கால், s. Legs with folded knees. மடிப்பங்கால்போட. inf. To sit upon the hams with folded knees. மரக்கால், s. Crutches. 2. A wooden leg. 3. [ex கால், a measure.] An instrument of dry-measure. முக்காலி, s. Tripod. முக்கால், s. Three quarters, ??, தெ. முக்காலும். The three times, even three times. முக்காலும்போவேன். I will certainly go, come, &c. முக்காலேமூன்றுவீசமும். Almost, for the greatest part, nearly. முன்னங்கால், s. caikai (p. 209) s. (also written சயிகை.) Beckoning, beck, hint, wink, signal, nod, token. Also சமிக்கை. (c.) கண்சைகை, s. A wink with the eyes. கைச்சைகை, s. A beckoning with the hand. The master is coming--used by the Vellalas. பிள்ளைக்கு விளையாட்டு சுண்டெலிக்குச்சீவன்போ கிறது. It is play to the child, but death to the mouse. பிள்ளாயெனல், v. noun. Speaking kindly to a junior. ஏன்பிள்ளாய். Well, child! ஆண்பிள்ளை, s. A male child; a man, &c. See ஆண். பெண்பிள்ளை, s. A female child; a woman. See பெண். பிள்ளைக்கரைத்தல், v. noun. Procuring abortion. பிள்ளைகொல்லி, appel. n. Infanticide. 2. A disease fatal to infants, ஓர்நோய். 3. A kind of assaf&oe;tida, ஓர்பெருங்காயம். பிள்ளைக்கட்டி, s. The f&oe;tus in the early stages of pregnancy. பிள்ளைக்கவி, s. A species of poetic composition. See பிள்ளைத்தமிழ். பிள்ளைக்கற்றாழை, s. A common species of கற்றாழை, used medicinally, being always green. பிள்ளைக்கிணறு, s. A small well or hole sunk within a well. பிள்ளைக்கைவளை, s. Bracelets worn by children பிள்ளைக்கோட்டை. s. A small fort, forming an entrance to the larger, சிறு கோட்டை. 2. A citadel. பிள்ளைச்சோமன், s. A small சோமன் cloth for a boy or girl. பிள்ளைத்தக்காளி, s. A shrub. See தக் காளி. பிள்ளைத்தமிழ், s. A poem celebrating the different stages in the infancy and childhood of a hero, comprized in ten parts: 1. காப்பு, putting on the armrings, with magical rites; 2. செங்கீரை, first voluntary movements of the child compared to the motion of herbs by the breeze; 3. தால், lulling the child in the cradle with songs; 4. சப்பாணி, the first clapping of its hands; 5. முத்தம், kissing; 6. வாரானை, extending its hands and calling to be taken; 7. அம்புலி, showing the moon to the infant; 8. சிறுபறை, amusement of a small drum; 9. சிற்றில், making (in play) little houses, or trampling on those made by girls; 1. சிறுதேர். drawing little carriages.--Note. When a heroine is described, instead of the last three, the following are substituted, eighth கழங்கு, a kind of play with brass balls; ninth அம்மானை, a curious play with balls; tenth, ஊசல், swinging. There are two more compositions, bearing this title, one by குமரகுருபரதேசிகர், in praise of மீனாட்சி, the goddess at Madura; the other, by மார்க்கசகாயதேவர், of the childhood of Skanda. பிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. A pregnant woman. பிள்ளைத்தேங்காய், s. The best kind of cocoa-nut, reserved for planting, நாற்றுத் தேங்காய். (Jaff.) பிள்ளைத்தேள், s. A centiped; Scolopendra, as மட்டைத்தேள். பிள்ளைப்பிறை, s. The youthful moon, இளஞ்சந்திரன். (p.) பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி, s. A kind of insect, the Gryllus, உழுவான், which going into mud is not defiled--so the spiritual man. பிள்ளைபெற, inf. To bring forth a child. பிள்ளைபெறாதமலடி, s. A barren woman, used of one who is cruel. பிள்ளைப்பெற்றவீடு, s. The house of a lying-in-woman, considered ceremoniously unclean. பிள்ளைப்பேறு, v. noun. Child-birth. பிள்ளைப்பேறறிந்தவள், s. A midwife. பிள்ளையைமஞ்சணீர்குடிக்கிறது, v. noun. Drinking turmeric water; i. e. adopting a child. பிள்ளைமாபிரபு, s. [prov.] A nobleman, an eminent person, பெருமையிற்சிறந்தோன். பிள்ளைமார், s. [pl.] Respectable men, gentlemen; men of the பிள்ளை caste. பிள்ளைமை, s. Childishness, puerility, babyhood, any thing infantile, பிள்ளைத்தன் மை. பிள்ளையாண்டான், appel. n. A young man, a youth, boy, lad, வாலிபன். பிள்ளையார், s. The god Ganesa, sometimes, Skanda and Sambanda Mûrti. பிள்ளையார்சதுர்த்தி, s. A fast on the fourth day of the new or full moon in honor of the god Ganesa. பிள்ளையார்சுழி, s. A curve to represent பிள்ளையார். See சுழி. பிள்ளையுண்டாகுதல், v. noun. Becoming pregnant. பிள்ளைவங்கு, s. [prov.] A cavity or socket to receive the mast of a dhoney, பாய்மரம்நிறுத்தும்குழி. பிள்ளைவண்டு, s. A young beetle, இள வண்டு. பிள்ளைவிழுதல், v. noun. [vul.] Miscarrying, கருவழிதல். ஊத்தாம்பிள்ளை, s. muṭm (p. 356) s. Lameness in a limb. See எச்சம். 2. Any thing bent, முடங்கினது. (c.) கோழிமிதித்துக்குஞ்சுக்குமுடமாகுமா..... Will a young chicken become lame by being trampled upon by its mother? முடப்புல், s. A curved bent grass. முடப்புல்முக்கலநீரைத்தடுக்கும்...... Bent grass will stop a current of three kalams. முடவன், s. [fem. முடத்தி.] One who is lame, காலிலி. 2. Aruna, without legs, the charioteer of the sun, அருணன். 3. [also மந்தன்.] Saturn the planet, from its slow motion, சனி. முடவன்கொம்புத்தேனுக்காசைப்பட்டதுபோல... As a lame man desires to have the honeyo on the branches of a tree. 105)

snāṉm (p. 214) s. Bathing, ablution, &c., முழு க்கு. W. p. 955. SNANA.--Note. The brahmans count seven kinds of ஸ்நானம். or purification: 1. வாயவியஸ்நானம், a purification by being covered with dust raised by the trampling of cows, and by the wind. 2. திவ் வியஸ்நானம், that produced by the sprinkling of rain in the sun-shine. 3. மனஸ்நானம், a purification of the mind by meditation. 4. மந்திரஸ்நானம், sprinkling of water on a sick person while hearing the Veda read. 5. பூமிஸ்நானம், sprinkling with dust from the vicinity of sacred trees, shrubs, &c., as ஆல், அரசு, துளசி, &c. 6. அக்கினிஸ்நானம், purification by applying the ashes of cow-dung. 7. யோகஸ்நானம், from fixed contemplation of the Yogi. ஸ்நானகன், s.
