To degrade, lower in office, rank or character, to disgrace, debase, இழிவுபடுத்த. 3. To cause to fall down or below, relatively, தாழ்த்த. இழிப்பு, v. noun. Degradation, disgrace, meanness, இழிவு. 2. kiruttiyam (p. 111) s. Act, actions, performances, operation, தொழில். 2. Moral actions good or bad, involving future retributions, கன்மக்கிரியை. 3. A course of conduct, நடக்கை. 4. Work, business, employment, லௌகிகவேலை. 5. Religious rules, prescribed duties, கடமை. 6. Rites, ceremonies, &c., religious acts or practice, சடங்கு. 7. The operations of the deity--popularity in the characters of creator, preserver and destroyer; but in the mystic parts of the Agama system, the works of obscuring and enlightening the soul are superadded. Wils. p. 243. KRUTYA. தன்கிருத்தியந்தான்பார்க்கவேண்டும். Each one must perform his appropriate duties, personal, social, relative, civil, &c. கிருத்தியகர்த்தா, s. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. It is ascribed to சதாசிவம். சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. Domestic affairs, household business. 10) *

kūṟu (p. 136) s. Part, portion, share, subdivision, பங்கு. 2. The natural, chemical, chemical, or anatomical parts of a man of other animal; component, original parts, or principles of material existences. இயற்கைக்கூறு. 3. Modification and diversities in the forms of bodies; varied evolutions of primitive matter, விகாரத்தன்மை. 4. Section, division, department, பகுதி. 5. The properties, qualities or nature of a thing; characteristic symptoms of a disease, கூறுபாடு. 6. Effect, result, product, காரணகாரியங்களின் வகை; [ex குறு, to shorten by division, &c.] 7. v. noun. Proclamation, publication, அறிவிக்கை; [ex கூறு to proclaim.] 8. s. Oily grain, எள்ளு. (M. Dic. முழுக்கூறும்வேண்டும். I want it all. கூறிட--கூறுசெய்ய, inf. To cut in two, bisect, subdivide. 2. To set in portions or small quantities. கூறுகூறாக்க, inf. To cut or separate into portions; to apportion. கூறுவைக்க, inf. To set in portions or separate quantities, to distribute and set in small heaps--as a retailer for sale. கூறுகொள்ள, inf. To stuff, cram, press any thing down with a stick, the feet or the hands. குழந்தை மண்ணைக் கூறுகொள்ளுகிறது. The child eats sand. சோற்றைகூறுகொள்ளுகிறான். [prov.] He thrusts rice into his mouth. கூறுபட, inf. To be divided or resolved into its primitive elements. கூறுபடுத்த, inf. To analyze, to distribute. 2. To resolve or reduce bodies into their original parts or primitive elements; to produce the varied transformations of nature. கூறோலை--கூற்றோலை, s. An ola-writing for the division of property among heirs. தைபிற்கூறு, s. The latter part of January. நடுக்கூற்றிலே, In the middle; in the middle part. மாசிமுற்கூறு, s. The first part of February. அக்கினியின்கூறு, s. The effects of heat in the system, &c. 2. Heat, caloric. சரீரக்கூறு, s. The temperament of the body. 2. The component anatomical parts of the body. நேர்கூறு, s. A proper quantity in composition, mixture. &c. மூலக்கூறு, s. The radical parts of a substance. See மூலம். வாயுவின்கூறு, s. The component parts of atmospheric air. 2. The effects of the vital airs on the system, or the powers derived from them, viz. walking, running, standing, sitting, &c. வியாதியின்கூறு, On account of, or occasioned by, the disease. 21)

citai (p. 182) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To be injured, spoiled, marred, ruined; to decay, to be worn out, to waste, moulder, கெட; [ex Sa. Sita.] 2. (Compare சேதி, v.) To be sundered, divided, cut to pieces, to be mutilated, வெட்டுண்ண. 3. To expire, சாக. 4. To change, to be contracted--as words or language by time, to grow obsolete, மருவிச்சிதைய. 5. To be changed, transformed, to vary as custom, religion, &c., வழக்கமாற. 6. To be destroyed, to perish, to melt away--as an army, இரிய. 7. To degenerate, deteriorate, சீர்கெட. 8. To be wrong, to get out of tune--as music; to go wrong--as a tune, சந்தஞ்சிதைய. 9. To be defective, deficient in letters, words, &c., எழுத்துமுதலியகுறைய. சிதைந்தவேடு, s. [prov.] An ola-book injured by white-ants, &c. சிதைந்துமருவியசொல், s. A word changed by time; a contraction. (p.) சிதைவு, v. noun. Destruction, perishing, ruin, loss, கெடுதி. 2. Decay, waste, squandering, abuse, பதனழிவு. 3. Fragments, ruins, &c.--as சிதை, v. 4. Change by contraction of a word; corruption or change of language, custom or religion, குன்றுதல். 5. Rout, defeat, இரிவு. 6. Injury of wealth, character, &c.; suffering detraction, &c., பெயர்முதலியகெடுதல். 7. Defect of a letter or word chiefly in poetry, தளைமுதலியவழுவுதல். 8. Getting out of tune, or going wrong, as a tune, சந்தச் சிதைவு. 9. Degeneracy, deterioration, சீர்கேடு. சிதைவுறாமங்கலவரிசி, s. Consecrated entire rice. See அட்சதை. (R.) எழுத்துச்சிதைவு, s. சிருட்டி
ciruṭṭi (p. 185) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To make, create, produce; to evolve, படைக்க. 2. To produce manifestations in nature, உருவாக்க; [ex சிருட்டி, s.] சிருட்டித்தாலும்உன்னாலேமுடியாது. You cannot effect this, though you strive. (lit. create.) சிருட்டிப்போன், s. The creating deity. சிருட்டி, v. noun. Creating, creation, evolution of matter from its primitive elements; transformation, modification, படைப்பு. சிருட்டிகர், s. The creator, the evolver of matter from its primitive Maya. சிருட்டிகர்த்தா, s. The creator, Brahma, பிரமன். சிருட்டிகாலம், s. The time of creation. சிருட்டிதிதிசங்காரம், s. Creating or evolving, preserving and destroying; as the work of the Hindu Triad-Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. சிருட்டித்தொழில், s. The office of creating. சிருட்டிப்பு, v. noun. Creating or evolving, படைப்பு. 2. A thing created, or evolved, a production, சிருட்டிப்பொருள். 78)

cūrpṉmṉ (p. 200) --சூரபதுமன்--சூரபற் பன், s. A king of the Asuras who was cut in two by Skanda in battle. The two parts still living, came against the victor, who seized and transformed them into a cook and peacock, making the former his banner, and the latter his vehicle, சூரன். 40) *

taricaṉam (p. 225) --தரிசனை, s. Vision, sight, perception, view, பார்வை. 2. Aspect, appearance, தோற்றம். 3. A visit, visiting a sacred shrine, தரிசிக்கை. 4. Sight of a great personage, a deity, or an idol, காட்சி. 5. Dream, vision, trance, supernatural appearance, சொப்பனம். 6. (St.) A mirror or looking glass, கண்ணாடி. 7. Mental illumination, spiritual knowledge, intellectual perception, spiritual attainment or acquisition, மனக்காட்சி. W. p. 41. DARSANA. உமதுதரிசனத்துக்குவந்தார்கள். They are come to see you. ஆத்துமதரிசனம், s. [in the Agamas.] Spiritual sight. See under ஆத்துமம். குருதரிசனம், s. Visit, interview with, or sight of, a guru--or deity in human form--to illuminate the soul. சுவாமிதரிசனை, s. A sight of an idol. பாசதரிசனம், s. [in the Agamas.] A knowledge of Maya. See பாசம். தரிசனபேதி--தரிசனவேதி, s. A kind of drug, by which the iferior metals are said to be changed into gold; adduced as an illustration of the transforming effects on the soul of the presence of the guru or of the deity in human form. See பரிசனபேதி. தரிசனாவரணீயம், s. Imperfection in sight, one of the eight imperfections of creatures. See அஷ்டகுற்றம், or குற்றம். தரிசனையாக, inf. To be seen, to appear. தரிசி, appel. n. One who sees, a seer, தரிசிப்பவன். 31) *

tārakai (p. 234) s. Star, நட்சத்திரம். 2. The pupil of the eye, கண்மணி. (Sa. Ta'raka'.) --This retains its Sanscrit pronunciation in its Sanscrit compounds. தாரகாகணம், s. Cluster of stars, நட் சத்திரக்கூட்டம். தாரகாபதி, s. The moon, a ruler of the stars, சந்திரன். தாரகைமாலை, s. A poem which describes the exalted fidelity and chastity of a woman who equals the virtue of அருந்ததி, transformed to a star, ஓர்பிரபந் தம். See பிரபந்தம். 26) *
