tuḷaci (p. 250) s. Tulasi, a fragrant herb held in great veneration by the Hindus; holy basil, which is said to be a female metamorphosed, துளவம். Ocymum sanctum. W. p. 381. TULASI.--Note. There are three kinds especially sacred to siva, viz.: வெ ண்டுளசி, சிறுதுளசி, சிவதுளசி, Oeymum tenuiflorum. There are others appropriated in Vishnu who claims also those of Siva. viz.: இராமதுளசி, கரியமால்துளசி, செந்துளசி, கருந் துளசி, விஷ்ணுதுளசி, பெருந்துளசி, Ocymum gratissimum. There are still other varieties. as கர்ப்பூரத்துளசி, which see; also காட்டுத் துளசி, Ocymum adscendens; நாய்த்துளசி, dog's basil, oppos. to நல்லதுளசி; நிலத்துளசி, Ocymum prostratum. (c.) துளசிதீர்த்தம், s. Tulasi leaves and consecrated water, taken in making oath in court, or, as a token of adherence to Vishnu on entering his temples. துளசிமணி, s. (also தாதமணி.) Beads made of the white Tulasi root or branch, worn by devotees of the Vishnu sect. துளசிமாடம், s. A raised place for Tulasi plants, instead of a flower pot. துளசிமாலை, s. A necklace made of Tulasi, whether leaves or beads. 27)

tuḷavam (p. 250) --துளவு, s. [a change of து ளசி.] The Tulasi plant. (p.) துளவன், s. Vishnu as adorned with the Tulasi, திருமால். 2. (R.) A kind of prepared arsenic, சோரபாஷாணம். 29)

tuḷai (p. 251) s. [also written, தொளை.] Hole, orifice, aperture, perforation. துவாரம். (c.) 2. Gateway, passage, thoroughfare, opening. வாயில். 3. The hollow of a tube, உட் டுளை. 4. Bambu, மூங்கில். See தூம்பு. துளைக்கருவி, s. Wind instruments, one of the five kinds. துளைக்கை, s. Elephant's trunk, தும் பிக்கை. 2. See துளை, v. a. துளைச்செவி, s. Ear of an animal that has no external ear, உட்செவி. 2. An animal with the internal ear only, without any auricle; one of the two great classes of animals according to the Hindus, உட்செவியுள்ளது. துளைபோட-துளையடிக்க-துளையிட, inf. To make a hole, commonly with a chisel and mallet, to punch. 6)

tuḷai (p. 251) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. [prov.] To play or dive in water, to roll in the sand, &c., மூழ்க. 2. v. a. To enjoy, have fruition of, அனுபவிக்க. 7)

tuḷai (p. 251) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. (also தொளை.) To make a hole, bore, drill, punch, துவாரஞ்செய்ய. 2. To perforate, pierce, pierce with arrows, &c., ஊடுருவ. துளைப்பு, v. noun. Boaring, drilling, perforating. 8)

tūtuḷai (p. 253) s. [com. தூதுவளை.] A shrub, three-lobed nightshade, Solanum trilobantum, L. தூதளங்கனிவாயாள். The தூதளை mouthed (red mouthed) damsel. (p.) தூதுளங்காய்வற்றல், s. The fried berry of the above, used as curry, or a relish with food. தூதுளம்பழம், s. The ripe berry of the தூதுளை. தூதுவளைநெய், s. Ghee medicated with the juice of the தூதுளை berry, used for coughs, &c. 29) *
