In erotics, the section which relates to an application made for the opening of a door to a coming or expected lover; or in war poems, to a warrior returning in triumph after a victory, கதவுதிறக்கை. A word at the end of a sentence understood in other parts--one of the தீவகம். கடைநிலையளபெடை, s. The rhyme in which the last letter of each verse is lengthened. கடைநிலையெழுத்து, s. [in grammar.] Letters proper to end a word, இறுதிநிலை. கடைபோக, inf. To end, terminate, conclude, முடிய. 2. To be fulfilled, நிறைவேற. கடைபோட--கடைவைக்க, inf. To set up a shop, open a shop. கடைப்பட, inf. To be inferior, below mediocrity, to be last in quality or estimation, degree or order, இழிவாக. 2. To be practicable, capable of completion, நிறைவேற. என்னாலிதுகடைப்படாது. This will not be completed by me. கடைப்பாடு, s. Determination, தீர் மானிப்பு. 2. Inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. கடைப்பந்தி, s. The lower end of a dining table or of a row of guests, கடைசிப்பந்தி. கடைப்பிடி, s. Bearing in mind, remembering, ஞாபகம். 2. Indelible impressions of gratitude for benefits received, of duties to be performed, of the importance of virtue and religion, மறவா மை. 3. Certainty, ascertainment, established truth, தேற்றம். 4. Firm belief in the essentials of religion serving as the hope and support of the mind in reference to a future state, the last grasp of the soul, உறுதி. 5. Firm determination, firm resolve, either for good or evil, கரும முடிக்குந்துணிவு. 6. Doctrines, truth firmly believed as necessary to salvation, உறுதி யானகொள்கை. கடைப்பிடிக்க, inf. To ascertain clearly, to know certainly, தெளிய. 2. To determine, resolve firmly, be decided in purpose either in a good or evil course, துணிய. 3. To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். Unkind are they who are forgetful of the situation of their friends. (காரிகையுரை.) மற்றதன்கள்ளங்கடைப்பிடித்தனன்று. It is important to have an abiding sense of the wiles of Yama. வாழ்க்கைக்குவேண்டும்பொருளறிந்துகடைப்பிடி த்தலும். Knowing and duly providing all things necessary for her household-(குறளுரை.) நன்மைகடைப்பிடி. Persevere in good works. (ஔவை). கடைப்பிறப்பு, s. The meanest species of birth in any class of beings, இழிந்தபிறப்பு. கடைப்புணர்முரண்--கடைமுரண், s. A species of rhyme when the last foot of every line is of opposite meaning, ஓர்தொடை. கடைப்புணர்வு--கடைப்பூட்டு, s. [in jewelry.] Clasp, hasp, அணியின்கடைப் புணர்வு. கடைப்புத்தி, s. [prov.] Stupidity, இழிந்தபுத்தி. 2. A piece of folly, பின்புத்தி. கடைப்போக்கு, s. The flood-gate of tank. கடைமடக்கு, s. [in rhetoric.] Continued recurrence of the same words at the end of each line through a stanza, but with different meanings, சொல்லணி யிலொன்று. See மடக்கு. கடைமுறை, s. The last time, eventually, கடைசிமுறை. (நீதிநெறி. 48.) கடைமோனை--கடையாகுமோனை, s. (See மோனை.) A rhyme when the first letter of the last foot of every line is the same, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையயல், s. To be afflicted with a painful and lingering disease, to suffer extremely, வருந்த. 2. To be distressed with poverty, வறுமையுற. 3. To degenerate, கேடுற. கடையனல், s. The fire by which the world will finally be consumed. கடையன், s. A man of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோன். கடையாகெதுகை, s. A rhyme, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையாட்டம், s. [prov.] Lingering in disease, excessive suffering from disease, வருத்தம். 2. Vexation, teasing, imminence, trouble, annoyance, உலைவு, lit. mean work. கடையாட்டப்பட, inf. To drudge, to be employed in mean work. 2. To linger in disease, suffer exceedingly, வ ருந்த. 3. To be vexed. harassed. &c.-as a nurse by troublesome children, உ லைய. கடையாணி, s. A linch-pin, அச் சாணி. 2. A peg or pin used to keep a tenon in a mortise, or for any similar purpose, பூட்டாணி. கடையாந்தரம்--கடையீறு, s. [vul.] The very last, the extremity, &c.--as கடைசி. கடையாயார், s. Persons of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோர். கடையால், s. Stern of a vessel, தோணியின்பிற்புறம். See கடைசால், usage. கடையிணைமுரண், s. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. A market-street. கடைவைக்க, inf. To place goods for sale in a shop or bazaar. 2. To open a shop on an auspicious day after the new-year, கடைதிறக்க. பலசரக்குக்கடை, s. A shop where commodities of various kinds are sold. மளிகைக்கடை, s. A wholesale ware-house. காசுக்கடை, s. An exchange. அடிக்கடை, s. The first shop in a market-street. மருந்துக்கடை, s. Any of the four seats or sources of the sounds of the letters, எழுத்துப்பிறக்குமிடம். 11. [in numeration.] Place or digit, எண்ணின்தானம். 12. [in astrol.] Any of the twelve signs consulted, for predicting one's fortune, in reference to the planets and their situation in the signs, கிரகநிலை. 13. Any of the five places in the zodiac with respect to any given planet. 14. [vul. for ஸ்நானம்.] A bath. 15. (R.) The upright posture of the images of Vishnu, in distinction from the sitting. தானம், 5. The five places are: 1. ஆட் சித்தானம், when the planet presides, (See under ஆள், v.) 2. உச்சதானம். when the sun is in Aries, the Moon in Taurus, Mars in Capricornus, Mercury in Virgo. This is a very auspicious conjunction, four times better than the first. 3. நீசத் தானம், the position of the planets in the seventh place from the auspicious, உச் சம், and thought to be very bad. 4. நட் புத்தானம், the benign position of the planets. (See under நட்பு.) 5. பசைத்தானம். the malign position, causing continual hatred. See under பகை. தானம், 12. The twelve astrological signs are: 1. சென்மஸ்தானம், the rising sign at birth, having reference to fortune generally, according to the character and influence of the planets that may be in it. 2. வாக்குஸ்தானம், திரவியஸ் தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the second sign at birth as applying to the powers of speech, influence, learning, wife, &c. 3. சகோதரஸ்தானம், the third, referring to brothers and sisters whether there will be any, the good or evil they will do to the person, or he to them. 4. மாதுருஸ்தானம், மித்துருஸ்தானம், வாகனஸ்தானம், the forth, referring to the life of the mother, or friends. 5. புத்திரஸ்தானம், the fifth regards future offspring. 6. சத்துருஸ்தானம், உரோகஸ்தானம், the sixth shows whether the person will have enemies, and the evils to which he will be liable. 7. களத்திரஸ்தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the seventh, referring to a wife and settlement in life. 8. மிருத்துஸ்தானம், ஆ யுஸ்தானம், the eighth, the limit of life. 9. தருமஸ்தானம், புண்ணியஸ்தானம், the ninth, referring to the extent of the person's liberality, &c. 1. கருமஸ்தானம், the tenth, conduct, character good or bad, &c. 11. இலாபஸ்தானம், பாக்கியஸ்தானம், the eleventh income, acquisition, wealth prosperity. 12. செலவுஸ்தானம், வியஸ்தா னம், the twelfth, prodigality or penuriousness, &c. தானக்கை, s. [prov.] Any vital part of the body, உயிர்நிலை. 2. Favorable situation of a place, தகுந்தஇடம். தானத்தான், s. A pujari in a Saiva temple, ஸ்தானீகன். 2. A hereditary chief, தலைமைக்காரன். தானப்புழு, s. Worms in the anus, causing irritation or itching. See திமி ரிப்பூச்சி. தானப்புழுக்கிண்ட, inf. To gnaw as worms in the anus, &c. [prov.] தானப்பொருத்தம், s. The fourth of ten items to be regarded in the choice of the first word of a poem--being the correspondence of its initial letter, with any of the five arbitrary divisions in which the initial of the name of the hero falls. The five தானம் are, 1. பாலன். 2. குமரன். 3. அரசன். 4. விருத்தன். 5. மரணம். which denote the five stages of life. The five arbitrary divisions of letters are அ, ஆ; இ, ஈ, ஐ; உ, ஊ, ஔ, எ, ஏ; ஒ; ஓ. தானவண்ணம், s. A curious kind of song, சுரவிகற்பப்பாட்டு. தானவரிசைபாட, inf. To sing with a tremendous noise. 13) *

tuvātacam (p. 249) s. Twelve, பன்னிரண்டு; [ex தசம், ten.] W. p. 432. DVADASAM. துவாதசாங்கிசம், s. [in astrol.] A division of the rising sign into twelve parts, for horoscopic calculations. See இலக்கினம்; [ex அங்கிசம், அமிசம்.] துவாதசாதித்தர்--துவாதசாதித்தியர், s. [in mythol.] The twelve suns governing the twelve months of the year, or more properly the presiding deity of the sun for each month, beginning with சித்திரை, in the sign Aries. The twelve, ஆதித்தர், are: 1. தாத்துரு. 2. சக்கரன். 3. அரியமன். 4. மித்திரன். 5. வருணன். 6. அஞ்சு மான். 7.இரணியன். 8. பகவான். 9. திவாச்சு வான். 1. பூடன். 11. சவித்திரு. 12. துவட் டன். --Note. Each of these names is applied to the sun as he passes its sign in the Zodiac. துவாதசாந்தம், s. The place of the twelfth and last அவஸ்தை or station of the soul in the practice of the motionless ascetic, பன்னிரண்டாமவஸ்தை; [ex அந்தம், end.] துவாதசான்மா, s. nāmm (p. 273) s. Name, appellation, especially of a deity, பெயர். W. p. 461. NAMAN. 2. [vul. ராமம்.] The Vaishnuva sectarian mark on the forehead, திருநாமம். (சது.) 3. The white clay, or earth, used for the tridental mark, திருமண். (c.) 4. Reputation, celebrity, கீர்த்தி. 5. That part of the scales which incloses the needle, நிறைகோலின்நடு. 6. Fear, அச்சம்.--There are in use two kinds of marks, as பட்டைநாமம், a large mark worn by some Vaishnuvas ostentatiously; கிள்ளுநாமம், கீறுநாமம், a small mark worn in compliance with custom. நாமகரணம், s. (St.) Naming a child, commonly on the twelfth day for the brahman castes, the thirteenth for the royal caste, &c., being the day after purification. நாமகரணம்பண்ணுதல், v. noun. Naming a child with prescribed ceremonies. நாமக்கட்டி, s. Lumps of white clay, as நாமம், 3. நாமக்காரர், s. [plu.] Vaishnuvas. See நாமதாரி. நாமக்குச்சரி--நாமக்குச்சிலி, s. A woman's cloth of divers colours, ஓர்சேலை; [ex நாமம், the tridental mark.] நாமக்கூசா, s. A goglet made of whte clay. நாமசங்கீர்த்தனம், s. Praising the name (of Vishnu.) நாமஞ்சாத்த--நாமஞ்சூட, inf. To invest with a name, பெயரிட. 2. To wear the Vaishnuva mark. நாமஸ்தோத்திரம், s. Praise of a deity. நாமஸ்மரணை, s. Mental recollection of the name of a deity. நாமதாரணம், s. Bearing a name. 2. Wearing the Vaishnuva mark. நாமதாரணை, s. The first of the nine தாரணை, the worship of God under a name, or through an image. See தாரணை. நாமதாரி, appel. n. A worshipper of Vishnu as wearing the நாமம், நாமதாரி. நாமதேயம், s. A name given, or appellation, பெயர். (Sa Namadheya.) உம்முடையநாமதேயமென்ன. What is your given name? நாமம்தரிக்க--நாமமிட, inf. To take, have, or be invested with, a name. 2. To give a name. 3. To wear the Vaishnuva mark. நாமப்பொருத்தம், s. Astrological agreement in the names of a man and woman before they are married. நாமமாலை, s. A வஞ்சிப்பா poem, celebrating a man's praise; (lit.) garland of names. See பிரபந்தம், 16. நாமமிட, inf. pangkuṉi (p. 289) s. The name of a month, March into April, ஓர்மாதம். See பற்குனி. 2. The twelfth lunar mansion or asterism, உத்திரநாள். (p.) பங்குனிமாதம்பகல்வழிநடந்தவன்பெரும்பாவி. He who travels by day in the பங்குனி month will suffer; i. e. from heat. அவன்பங்குனியென்றுபருப்பதுமில்லைச் சித்திரையெ ன்றுசிறுப்பதுமில்லை. He neither increases in March, nor decrease in April; i. e. he is always uniform. பங்குனன், s. Arjuna who was born in பங்குனி, the twelfth lunar mansion. பங்குனியுத்திரம், s. A special festival day occurring in பங்குனி month. 15) *

A money-box. பணச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of wealth. பணச்செலவு, Expenditure of money. பணத்துக்குக்கொள்ளுதல், v. noun. Making an actual, unconditional purchase. 2. Acquiring by purchase. பணத்தையிறைக்க, inf. To spend money lavishly. பணத்தோடேபணம், s. Accumulation of wealth; (lit.) money with money. பணந்திரட்ட, inf. To treasure up. See திரட்டு. பணப்பித்து, s. Greediness after money, avarice. பணப்புரட்சி--பணப்புரட்டு, v. noun. [prov.] Command of money, abundance of wealth. பணப்பெட்டி, s. A money-box, coffer, &c., பணப்பெயர்ச்சி--பணப்பெயர்த்தி, v. noun. [prov.] Raising money by borrowing, &c. பணப்பெருமை, s. Pride of wealth. பணப்பேய், s. A very avaricious, covetous person. பணமடித்தல்--பணம்வெட்டுதல், v. noun. Coining money. பணமிடுக்கு, s. Power of wealth. பணமுடிப்பு, s. Money tied in a little piece of cloth, or on the ends of a garment. பணமுட்டு, s. Straits for want of money. பணமூறுதல், v. noun. Accruing as money, increasing as income, &c. பணம்பரிமாறுதல், v. noun. [prov.] Circulation of money. 2. Money being at command. பணம்பறித்தல், Getting money by dishonorable means, as prostitutes, strolling jugglers, impostors, &c. பணவரவு, s. Income. பணவாஞ்சை, s. Desire of money, avarice. பணவிடை, s. A small weight of gold, the ninth of a pagoda, also the twelfth of a கழஞ்சு. பணமில்லாதவன்பிணம். One without property is but a corpse. ஈட்டிஎட்டினமட்டுங்குத்தும், பணம்பதின்காதம் குத்தும். The spear will pierce its own length, money will go ten காதம், or 1 miles. பணம்இறகில்லாப்பட்சியாயிருக்கிறது. Wealth is a bird flying without wings. 156) *
